A shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Algeria should take your things from your Saudi front door to your family’s door in Algeria, and that is how Gulf International Shipping works: our truck collects furniture, cartons or goods in any Saudi city and brings them to Jeddah Islamic Port, where they are loaded into a container that passes through the Suez Canal to a transfer hub in the Mediterranean, then continues on a feeder vessel to Algiers, Oran or Annaba, clears Algerian customs and is delivered to your address in any wilaya. A container of your own needs about 5–7 weeks from door to door, a shared (groupage) shipment 6 to 8 weeks, and an air parcel 3 to 7 days. Gulf International Shipping prices start at SAR 92 for parcels weighing up to 5 kg, SAR 276 per cubic metre of shared container space, SAR 1,100 for a complete bedroom, while a private box costs from SAR 5,520 for 20 ft or SAR 7,360 for 40 ft.
Plenty of adverts promise Algeria in ten days, or talk about trucking it overland through border crossings. The reality is different. There is no workable road for moving freight from the Kingdom to Algeria, and no direct container line between Jeddah and the Algerian ports, so every box is switched to another ship somewhere in the Mediterranean. That is why this page sticks to real numbers: what a shipment costs, how long it takes from your city, which Algerian port suits your wilaya, and what Algerian customs asks of people returning home for good and of everyone else, so you can plan your move knowing every step.
In short
- How it travels: containerised by sea out of Jeddah Islamic Port, or by air from Jeddah for urgent items; there is no overland service to Algeria
- Arrival ports: Algiers, Oran and Annaba, plus Skikda, Béjaïa and Djen Djen depending on the line
- Door to door: 5–7 weeks for your own container, 6–8 weeks for groupage, 3–7 days by air
- Starting prices: parcels from SAR 92, shared space from SAR 276 per m³, a bedroom from SAR 1,100, a 20 ft container from SAR 5,520
- Returning Algerians: used household goods and an eligible car enter duty-free with a change-of-residence certificate, up to DZD 10 million, once
- Cars: new or under 5 years, petrol, electric or hybrid up to 1,800 cc; diesel cars are outside the exemption
- Tax on new items: duty according to tariff line, with 19% VAT on top
Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Algeria
We built the Gulf International Shipping table after reviewing what other carriers publish for Algeria from different Saudi cities, then priced every line under the cheapest published figure. The number shown is the floor for a normal shipment from Jeddah port to an Algerian port; it rises with the volume of your goods, your loading city and the wilaya you live in.
Note: your own container reaches the Algerian address in about 5–7 weeks, groupage within 6–8 weeks, and air parcels inside 3–7 days, depending on the sailing schedule, the Mediterranean transfer and clearance.
Algerian customs charges, where they apply, go straight to customs and are separate from the freight. We do not claim to pay your duties for you, as some adverts do; we tell you before booking what is exempt and what is taxable. Freight also rises a little for wilayas far from the ports, especially in the south. Item-by-item prices and worked examples for a small flat and a villa are on shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Algeria.
A quick example: reading the prices for your home
Take a family in a two-bedroom flat in Jeddah shipping two bedrooms, the living room, a fridge, a washing machine and about twenty cartons. Packed, that is roughly 16–18 cubic metres. At the groupage floor of SAR 276 per m³ the total lands around SAR 4,400–5,000, close to the SAR 5,520 for a 20 ft container of their own, which is faster and is opened for them alone. In a case like that we usually suggest the private container, while a student going home with ten cartons and a TV is better off in groupage, paying hundreds of riyals rather than thousands.
How long shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria takes from your city
The figure that matters is the time from the moment your things leave your home to the moment they enter your new one, not the sailing days alone. That time has five stages: the inland leg to Jeddah, export formalities and the vessel cut-off, the voyage to the Mediterranean transfer port, the wait and feeder leg to Algeria, and finally clearance and delivery. The table puts those stages together for each loading city.
Add 3 to 5 days if you live in the south, in Ghardaïa, Ouargla or Adrar, because after the port the load still covers hundreds of kilometres by road. Groupage takes longer because a shared box is not sealed until it has filled up in Jeddah, and on arrival it is unpacked and each customer’s lot is sorted before clearance. If you are tied to a flight or the start of a school year, book two months ahead and fly whatever you need in the first weeks.
How a container gets from Jeddah to the Algerian ports
No container ship runs straight from Jeddah to Algeria in one voyage. The actual route starts with the box going onto a large vessel at Jeddah Islamic Port, heading north up the Red Sea to the Suez Canal, then into the Mediterranean, where it is discharged at one of the big transshipment ports. There it waits for a smaller feeder ship that carries it to the Algerian port. The transfer port changes with the shipping line, so we do not promise you a fixed name; we confirm it when you book.

That transfer stop is the real reason Algeria takes weeks rather than days, and it also explains why freight to Algeria usually costs more than to some nearer Mediterranean destinations: the box is lifted on and off twice, pays two sets of port charges and waits for the feeder. At Gulf International Shipping we book lines that transit Suez from Jeddah, check sailing schedules before every shipment, and give you the expected departure and approximate arrival before you pay.
Which Algerian port suits your wilaya?
Arriving at the port nearest your address saves days of road haulage inside Algeria and cuts its cost. This is the rough split we use when planning; the final port depends on the line available at booking:
Is there land freight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria?
No. The question keeps coming up because some pages, including older ones on our own site, talked about overland shipping and border crossings. The two countries are more than five thousand kilometres apart, and there is no regular truck route linking them with the customs handling that furniture and goods need, so we corrected all our pages. Our trucks work only two legs: your home to Jeddah port, and the Algerian port to your address.
Be wary of “ten days” or “overland to Algeria”
An advert quoting a very short time may mean sailing days only, or may ignore the Mediterranean transfer and clearance. Always ask: which port does the container load at, which Algerian port does it reach, and how long to the door? If the answers are vague, look elsewhere.
Your own container or groupage? Choosing by the size of your home
The decision that drives most of your cost is the type of container. With groupage (LCL) your bill follows the cubic metres your goods fill and share the box with other shipments, which suits a few cartons and a room or two. With your own container (FCL) you book the whole box in your name; it is loaded once and opened in Algeria for you alone, which suits a full home, or a car plus belongings. On our starting prices, a 20 ft container becomes cheaper than groupage once your goods approach 20 cubic metres.

A container bound for Algeria spends weeks at sea and is lifted at least twice, so ordinary wrapping is not enough. Our crew wraps furniture in layers of bubble film and corrugated board, builds wooden crates for glass, marble and ornaments, drains fridges and washing machines, and numbers and photographs every piece. The numbering is not just for neatness: the inventory we prepare with the photos works as the basis for the list the change-of-residence certificate requires, and it makes inspection at the Algerian port smoother.

If you are sending a few cartons to family for an occasion, or odd clothes, books and personal items, you do not need to book much space: we collect the carton from your home or you drop it at the collection point, and it joins the next shared container leaving for Algeria. Write the recipient’s name and Algerian phone number on every carton and add a clear contents list in Arabic or French, because a carton with unknown contents is the first one opened at inspection.
Furniture moving for Algerians returning from Saudi Arabia
Most people shipping a full household to Algeria are Algerians finishing work or study in the Kingdom and going home for good. Algerian customs treats them differently: with a change-of-residence certificate issued before shipping, their used belongings and a qualifying car clear customs with no duty or tax, within a fixed ceiling. Anyone sending goods while staying on in the Kingdom has duties assessed by Algerian customs according to the type and condition of each item.
The change-of-residence certificate at a glance
- Issued by the Algerian embassy in Riyadh, or by the Jeddah Consulate General for those on its register.
- Conditions: consular registration and at least 3 consecutive years living abroad, and never having used the procedure before.
- Ceiling: DZD 10 million for employees and DZD 8 million for students, covering the car and belongings together.
- Valid for 6 months from issue; the shipment must arrive within that period, and it cannot be renewed.
- Conditions are confirmed with the embassy or consulate before shipping.
Because the six months must cover the long voyage and the Mediterranean transfer, we plan it backwards with you: we survey your home and prepare the inventory first, you then apply for the certificate, and as soon as it is issued we book and load the container, leaving a comfortable margin before it expires. Every document and step is explained in Algeria change of residence household goods, and packing details and room prices are on furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Algeria.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria: who qualifies?
Owning a car in the Kingdom is not enough to ship it to Algeria. The current rules open only two doors. The first is for an Algerian returning for good with a change-of-residence certificate: the car is accepted provided it is brand new or less than 5 years old, runs on petrol, electricity or as a hybrid, has an engine of no more than 1,800 cc, and its value counts inside the same exemption ceiling. Diesel cars, new or used, are outside this exemption.
The second door is for someone living in Algeria who brings in a car under three years of age to drive themselves, and who pays customs duty and VAT in full. Either way, the car travels with us inside a closed container, strapped to the floor and covered; we do not use open vessels. Before loading we complete the car’s final export on Absher and the export declaration on Fasah with you, and the car must be registered in your name. Rules, paperwork and a sample timeline against the certificate’s validity are in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Algeria.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Algeria
When a shipment cannot wait weeks at sea, the plane is the alternative. Direct flights operated by Air Algérie and Saudia run from Jeddah to Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport according to the flight schedule, taking about 5–6 hours. Air shipments from Riyadh, Madinah and Dammam are consolidated in Jeddah and fly from there, reaching your address in about 3–7 days including clearance.

Air cargo is billed on whichever is higher, the actual weight or the volumetric weight, and there is no published per-kilo rate for Algeria worth building on, so we send you the price once we know the weight and dimensions. The plane suits documents, permitted medicines, small valuable devices and the clothes you need if you arrive before your furniture; it does not suit heavy furniture, which costs many times more by air. The useful question is not “what is the rate per kilo?” but “what do I need the day I land?” Only that goes by air; the rest waits for the container.
Algerian customs and VAT on new items
Algeria charges VAT at 19%, with a reduced 9% rate on specified goods, and customs duty in bands of 0, 5, 15, 30 and 60% depending on each item’s tariff line. New items you ship, such as an unopened appliance or furniture with a recent invoice, are normally subject to duty and VAT, while used items listed on a change-of-residence inventory are exempt within the ceiling. Goods of Arab origin may get reduced duty when they come with a certificate of origin, which matters if you are shipping Saudi-made goods.
There is also a list of goods carrying an additional safeguard levy, and goods that need a permit from the relevant ministry. Because Algerian customs sets duty according to what each item is and the state it is in, we do not print a fixed rate per piece of furniture; we go through your list and tell you where to expect charges. And note that anything missing from the inventory may be taxed or held, so do not add anything to the container once the list is closed.
Documents needed to ship to Algeria
In the Kingdom we lodge the export declaration on Fasah on your behalf under an electronic authorisation, and in Algeria the clearing agent files the declaration on arrival. The holder of a change-of-residence certificate is normally asked to attend customs in person, so time your own travel to be in Algeria when the container lands.
What you cannot ship to Algeria
Below are the key banned and restricted goods for Algeria. We review them with you ahead of packing so that one item does not hold up the whole container:
- Prohibited: weapons, ammunition and explosives; drugs and poisons; cigarettes; alcohol; pornography; material offensive to religion or the state.
- Also prohibited: gold and jewellery, antiques and valuable paintings, used and retreaded tyres.
- Sensitive equipment: binoculars, antennas, GPS devices and military or paramilitary gear.
- Permit needed: medicines in quantity, hunting weapons, some books and magazines.
- On the Saudi side: antiquities, subsidised goods and weapons cannot be exported.
Delivery across the wilayas of Algeria
After clearance your goods go onto a truck to your address, and the team in Algeria unloads and reassembles whatever we dismantled in the Kingdom. We cover the centre, west, east and Kabylie, and the south on advance request, and we fix the delivery date once the container leaves the port.

Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Tabuk: the road to Jeddah port
All our sea shipments to Algeria leave from Jeddah Islamic Port, wherever you live. The truck runs about 950 km from Riyadh, from Tabuk about 1,000 km, and from Dammam, Al Khobar and Al Ahsa about 1,300–1,400 km, arriving within one to three days. It is an operational choice: we consolidate in Jeddah because that is where the lines heading through Suez into the Mediterranean sail from, so we do not offer sea freight from Dammam port to Algeria.
In practice, someone in the Eastern Province or Riyadh has a journey only a few days longer than someone in Jeddah, as the duration table shows, and the inland haulage is added to the sea freight. We load the truck at your door, or for a small shipment we collect into a nearby warehouse and move it to Jeddah consolidated, which lowers your share of the road cost.

How to cut the cost of shipping to Algeria
The cheapest way to ship to Algeria is groupage if you have under about 20 cubic metres, and your own container beyond that. But the real saving starts before you choose the container, with sorting the goods themselves. Bulky cheap furniture such as metal bed frames and light wooden desks can cost more in freight than it is worth, while good appliances, rugs and ornaments are worth sending.
- Sell or leave bulky cheap items: every cubic metre saved comes straight off a groupage bill.
- Book early, before summer: the season when families head home pushes up demand for containers and waiting times.
- Share with relatives: two families in one 40 ft box often pay less than two small containers, as long as the inventories are kept separate.
- Pick the nearest port: arriving at Oran if you live in the west costs less than landing at Algiers and trucking across.
- Do not ship new goods without reason: new items pay duty and 19% VAT, and may be cheaper to buy in Algeria.
Mistakes that cost people shipping to Algeria time and money
- Getting the change-of-residence certificate months before the shipment is ready, then racing to land before it expires.
- Believing a two-week arrival promise and selling furniture or arranging a home in Algeria on that basis.
- Buying a diesel car, or one above 1,800 cc, planning to ship it under the exemption.
- Adding cartons to the container after the inventory has been stamped, so unlisted items show up at inspection.
- Packing gold, antiques or GPS devices without asking, so the whole container is held at the port.
- Relying on a company that says it pays your customs; Algerian duties are assessed by customs, not by the carrier.
