Gulf International Shipping runs land freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan from every city in the Kingdom, using closed trucks that cross at Al-Haditha into Jordan’s Al-Omari border centre or at Halat Ammar into Al-Mudawwara. A shipment normally reaches Amman door to door in 3 to 5 working days. At Gulf International Shipping a carton starts from SAR 140, a bedroom from SAR 1,100, a full apartment from SAR 3,250, a sedan on a shared car carrier from SAR 1,100 and a pallet of goods in a shared load from SAR 555.
This is our master guide to the road between the two countries: which crossing suits your city, how long each leg takes, how the cost is worked out, which papers furniture, cars and commercial goods need, and when air freight or the sea route via Aqaba makes more sense than a truck.

Route details and land freight transit time from Saudi Arabia to Jordan
The Saudi–Jordanian border is long, but truck traffic is concentrated at three land crossings. Choosing the crossing is not a paperwork detail: it decides the length of the road, the driving hours and where Saudi exit formalities are completed. At Gulf International Shipping we pick the crossing for each shipment according to the loading city, the delivery city in Jordan and the type of cargo, and we tell the customer the route before loading so they know where their goods are on each day.
Al-Haditha and the Al-Omari border centre: the main gateway
Al-Haditha sits in Qurayyat Governorate in the Al-Jouf region, roughly 36 km from Qurayyat town, facing Jordan’s Al-Omari border centre. It is described as the Kingdom’s largest land port and the Gulf’s gateway to the Levant, which is why most trucks from Riyadh, the Eastern Province, Qassim and Hail use it. After Al-Omari the road runs north towards Azraq and on to Amman and Zarqa, where loads are split for Irbid, Mafraq and the rest of the north.
The advantage of this route is that its inspection halls are built for heavy trucks, and Jordanian customs at Al-Omari handles both freight and passengers. Its one drawback is congestion during holidays and the summer return season, when queues at the inspection lanes grow. That is why Gulf International Shipping insists that a shipment’s file is complete before the truck reaches the border: a truck that arrives with missing papers waits in the yard until the file is fixed.

Halat Ammar and Al-Mudawwara: the short road from Tabuk
Halat Ammar, in the Tabuk region, is a separate crossing from Al-Haditha. It is the third Saudi–Jordanian land crossing and lies on the old Levant pilgrimage road. Several shipping pages treat it as another name for Al-Haditha; that is simply wrong. Opposite Halat Ammar on the Jordanian side is the Al-Mudawwara border centre, from where the road runs to Ma’an and then along the Desert Highway to Amman.
This is the natural route for Tabuk shipments, since Tabuk to Amman is only about 450 km, and it also suits loads from Madinah, Jeddah, Makkah and Taif. A truck from the west may still be sent via Al-Haditha when it is part of a consolidated load filled in several cities; we explain this at booking. Halat Ammar also gets busy with passengers in the Hajj and Umrah seasons, as it is the pilgrims’ road from the Levant.

Al-Durra and the coastal road to Aqaba
The third crossing is Al-Durra in the far north-west, near Haql on the Gulf of Aqaba. It mainly serves shipments bound for Aqaba itself, since it avoids the detour through Ma’an. If your delivery address is in Aqaba, or the goods are entering the special economic zone there, we will discuss this option with you; for other cities Al-Haditha and Halat Ammar are the better fit.
Note: distances are approximate, vary with road and crossing, and are measured to Amman. Land transit is usually 3 to 5 working days; air freight 24 to 48 hours.
How long does each leg of the journey take?
Total transit is not just driving time. The trip has four stages, each taking its own share of time, which is why we quote working days rather than hours. The table shows typical figures for a shipment leaving Riyadh via Al-Haditha:
Note: estimates for a shipment with complete papers; peak seasons or detailed inspections can add time.
The gap between 12 driving hours and 3 to 5 working days comes from consolidation, waiting for a shared load to fill, customs working hours and public holidays in both countries. A private truck waits for nobody, so in most cases it arrives sooner than a shared one.
Land freight transit to Jordanian cities: Amman, Irbid, Zarqa and Aqaba
Gulf International Shipping trucks reach every governorate in Jordan, and transit varies with each city’s distance from the crossing and its slot in the delivery schedule. Amman and Zarqa are the closest drops to the Al-Omari road, while Irbid and Ramtha in the north and Aqaba in the south usually need an extra day.
Note: transit counted from loading day; varies with crossing, customs release and travel season.

In Amman’s hillside neighbourhoods and on the narrow streets of Irbid and Salt a large truck may not reach the door, so we transfer the load to a smaller vehicle before arrival. Tell us the street width, whether there is a lift and which floor the flat is on when you book; these details change the crew size and unloading time.
Approximate shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Jordan
The prices below are the starting point of Gulf International Shipping’s quotes and apply to shipments from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Makkah, Taif and other cities. The final price is set once we know the actual volume, the delivery city and the type of truck.
Note: land transit is usually 3 to 5 working days to Amman depending on crossing and customs release; air freight 24 to 48 hours.
Detailed price list by item
Prices from Tabuk and Madinah
The north-western route through Halat Ammar is shorter, so Tabuk and Madinah have their own price list. On this route Gulf International Shipping prices start at:
Note: car prices from Tabuk and Madinah follow the general list: sedan from SAR 1,100, SUV from SAR 2,050.
How is the cost of land freight to Jordan calculated?
A land freight price is built from five elements. The more of them you know before you contact us, the faster and more accurate your quote:
- Volume in cubic metres: the biggest factor for furniture and goods, since a truck is sold by space rather than weight in most cases
- Weight: counts for heavy cartons, appliances and dense goods such as tiles or steel
- Truck type: a private truck for you alone, or space in a load shared with other customers
- Loading and delivery cities: Tabuk to Amman is far shorter than Dammam to Irbid
- Extra services: dismantling and assembly, wooden crating for valuables, temporary storage, floors without a lift
Worked example: a family in Riyadh is moving a two-bedroom flat with a living room, a sedan and five extra cartons of books and clothes. Gulf International Shipping’s estimate starts like this: the apartment from SAR 3,250, the car on a shared carrier from SAR 1,100, and five cartons from SAR 700 (5 × 140), a starting total of about SAR 5,050 before the real volume is checked. Had the family lived in Tabuk, the cartons would drop to SAR 325 (5 × 65) thanks to the shorter route.

Full truck or shared load? FTL and LTL commercial freight to Jordan
Commercial freight between Saudi Arabia and Jordan moves in two ways. With a full truckload (FTL) the truck is booked for one customer and leaves as soon as loading is done, with no waiting and no intermediate unloading. With a less-than-truckload (LTL) shipment the customer pays only for the space their goods occupy; the goods are grouped with other loads heading to Jordan, so the price falls and the wait grows by a day or two.
Commercial goods need a commercial invoice, a packing list and a certificate of origin, the exporter’s commercial registration and customs authorisation through the Fasah platform on the Saudi side. On the Jordanian side a customs broker pays the duties and any sales tax due. If your goods are food or need refrigeration, such as dates or dairy, say so before booking: these loads need a suitable truck and extra certificates, and each case is assessed on its own. Traders will find the full detail in our guide to goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Furniture and household moves by road from Saudi Arabia to Jordan
Most of our Jordan land freight customers are Jordanian families ending years of work in the Kingdom and going home with their furniture, or households sending part of their home to relatives in Amman or Irbid. At Gulf International Shipping the service starts with a survey by photo or visit, then bedrooms and kitchens are dismantled, every piece is wrapped in layers of film and bubble wrap, and the cartons are numbered against the packing list Jordanian customs asks for.
What many people overlook is that a returning Jordanian expatriate’s furniture may enter free of customs duty if the official conditions are met: at least one year of residence outside Jordan, proof that the residence has ended, and the exemption granted only once. We explain the conditions and documents step by step in our guide to the Jordan expat furniture exemption, and room-by-room packing in our guide to furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan
Gulf International Shipping moves cars to Jordan by road in three ways: an open shared carrier taking several cars, from SAR 1,100 for a sedan; a private hydraulic flatbed from SAR 2,050 for an SUV or 4×4, which leaves without waiting for other cars; and an enclosed carrier for luxury and classic cars, priced per model. The car is covered and strapped down on the carrier; it is never driven on the road.
On the Jordanian side, current vehicle import rules ban electric cars more than 3 years old, counting the clearance year, and ban cars classed as salvage or scrap in their country of origin after fire, flood or a total loss. Cars must meet the specifications Jordan recognises, which include the GCC and Saudi standards. The published rules set no age limit for petrol and hybrid cars; even so, we review each car’s file with the customs broker before loading.
On the Saudi side a car needs its original registration card (istimara), plate drop or export plates, an export certificate, settled traffic fines, the sender’s ID and the recipient’s passport. Anyone entering Jordan with their car temporarily needs a carnet (Triptyk). Full prices and paperwork are in our guide to car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Shipping cartons, parcels and personal items to Jordan
Not everyone shipping to Jordan is moving a whole home. Many requests are cartons of clothes and books, gifts for family, or belongings for a student at a Jordanian university. At Gulf International Shipping a carton starts from SAR 140 and personal items by weight from SAR 9 per kg; from Tabuk and Madinah a carton up to 20 kg starts from SAR 65. Cartons travel in a shared load and are delivered straight to the address.
- Write the recipient’s name, Jordanian phone number and city on two sides of every carton.
- Keep each carton within 20 to 30 kg so it does not split during loading.
- Put heavy items in small cartons and light ones in large cartons.
- Note the contents of each carton on a short list; customs may open any carton at random.
Weights and details are in our guide to cartons and parcels shipping to Jordan.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan
When time matters more than cost, air is the answer. Gulf International Shipping flies cargo from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam airports to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, normally within 24 to 48 hours of handover at the airport. Charges follow the actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, and since they change with flights and season we price each shipment individually: send the weight and dimensions and ask for your quote on WhatsApp.
Air suits documents, permitted personal medicines, urgent spare parts, trade samples and bags the owner needs on arrival. Furniture and large appliances cost far more by air than by truck, and batteries and flammable liquids face special aviation restrictions. Details are in our guide to air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

Sea freight via the port of Aqaba: when is it an option?
Aqaba is Jordan’s only seaport, and sea freight from Jeddah on the Red Sea usually takes 7 to 12 days, sometimes longer depending on sailing schedules. Sea rarely suits private shipments between two neighbours linked by road, but it can make sense for very heavy commercial loads, equipment larger than a truck can take, or goods bound for Aqaba itself. We discuss it on request and compare it with road freight before you decide.
Documents required for land freight to Jordan
Papers differ by type of shipment, and a single missing document is the main reason trucks are held at the border. This is what Gulf International Shipping asks for before loading:
A full list by shipment type is in documents required for shipping to Jordan.
Prohibited and restricted items when shipping to Jordan
Anything banned under either country’s law is banned in the shipment, even if the other country allows it. What stops most trucks at the border is not the outright banned item but the restricted one that needed a permit nobody obtained:
- Banned: weapons and ammunition, narcotics, counterfeit goods that infringe trademarks
- Banned without a permit: flammable materials, explosives and fireworks
- Must be emptied first: pressurised gas cylinders and the gas in air conditioners and fridges
- Needs an agricultural permit: plants, seedlings, seeds and some herbs
- Ship with care: liquids, cooking oil and detergents, sealed tightly in separate cartons
Warning
Do not pack official documents, jewellery or cash inside furniture cartons. Carry them with you: they are not normal land freight contents and are hard to declare on a packing list.Steps for land freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan with Gulf International Shipping

The cheapest way to ship by road to Jordan
The road to the smallest bill starts with reducing the space you need, not hunting for the lowest rate. Gulf International Shipping customers use these methods to cut costs without risking their belongings:
- Choose a shared load if you are not in a hurry; you pay only for your space and save a lot against a private truck.
- Sell or donate cheap, heavy pieces such as old mattresses and worn wardrobes; shipping them can cost more than they are worth.
- Dismantle what you can: a dismantled bed takes a third of the space of an assembled one.
- Avoid peak weeks before summer and after the school year ends, when demand for trucks rises.
- Share a truck with relatives or neighbours returning to the same Jordanian city.
- From Tabuk and the north, use the lower price list for the Halat Ammar route.
Common mistakes that hold a shipment at the border
- A rushed packing list that does not match the cartons, so the whole load is opened for inspection.
- Shipping new, boxed appliances as used belongings, though they fall outside the furniture exemption.
- Leaving gas in an air conditioner or a cooking cylinder inside the load.
- Shipping a car with unpaid fines or without its plates dropped.
- Giving only a Saudi phone number for the recipient, so delivery in Jordan cannot be arranged.
- Booking the truck before the final exit or travel date is confirmed, then postponing loading.
Tip
Keep two copies of the packing list: one with you and one travelling with the shipment. Photograph the furniture before wrapping; photos settle any discussion at delivery.Return shipping from Jordan to Saudi Arabia
