Why is Tabuk the closest Saudi shipping point to Jordan?
The Tabuk region sits in the far north-west of the Kingdom and shares a border with Jordan. A truck leaving Tabuk does not have to make the long run towards Al Jouf and Qurayyat that Riyadh and Dammam trucks make. Instead it heads north to the Halat Ammar crossing, the third land crossing between Saudi Arabia and Jordan after Al Haditha and Al Durra, which sits on the old Levantine Hajj route. Opposite it on the Jordanian side is the Mudawwara border centre, and from there the road continues to Ma’an and up the Desert Highway to Amman.
Plenty of shipping websites treat Halat Ammar and Al Haditha as two names for the same post. They are not. Al Haditha is in Qurayyat governorate in the Al Jouf region, faces Jordan’s Al Omari centre, and is the natural exit for cargo from Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Qassim. Halat Ammar is Tabuk’s own crossing, which is why Gulf International Shipping routes most Tabuk and western-region loads through it. A truck may occasionally go via Al Haditha when a consolidated load includes cargo from the north-east, and we confirm the crossing before loading.

Each leg of the journey, from Tabuk to the receiver’s door
How long does shipping from Tabuk to Jordan take?
The drive alone from Tabuk to Amman is about 6 hours for roughly 450 km, but door-to-door shipping takes longer because it includes loading, consolidating the load, formalities at both crossings and delivery inside Jordan. With Gulf International Shipping, land shipments from Tabuk usually arrive within 3 to 5 working days, and less when a full truck is booked by a single customer and leaves without waiting for other cargo.
The biggest factor in transit time is paperwork, not the road. If the packing list is ready and the electronic authorisation is complete before loading day, the truck passes Halat Ammar and Mudawwara faster. During Umrah and holiday seasons the crossing gets busy with travellers, so book early if you are moving around those periods.
Approximate shipping prices from Tabuk to Jordan
These are Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices, set below the rates published in the market for the same route. The first figure in each row is our “from” price; the second is the usual upper end for larger loads or more distant Jordanian cities.
Note: land freight from Tabuk usually takes 3 to 5 working days depending on the destination city and customs clearance, and air freight takes 24 to 48 hours. Packing a whole home is a separate service from SAR 690 when booked on its own.
Your final price depends on the actual volume, so we ask for photos or a list of items on WhatsApp and send a detailed quote before you commit. Air freight, commercial cargo and luxury cars on an enclosed carrier are priced on request, and you can request a detailed quote in minutes.
How do you work out the cost of shipping from Tabuk to Jordan?
- Volume before weight: furniture is charged by the space it takes in the truck, so a light sofa can cost more than a heavy box of books.
- Type of load: shared freight is cheaper for small quantities; a private truck suits a whole home.
- Destination city: Ma’an and the south lie directly on the route, while Irbid and Ramtha in the north add distance beyond Amman.
- Packing, dismantling and assembly: included in the bedroom price, charged separately if you only want a whole home packed.
- Floor and access: homes without a lift or on narrow streets need more crew and time.
- Jordanian charges: non-exempt furniture may attract customs duty and sales tax of up to 16%, according to usual practice.
A rough worked example
Moving household furniture from Tabuk to Jordan
Most bookings from Tabuk come from families who have finished working in the region and are returning to Jordan, or who are sending part of their household to relatives there. The Gulf International Shipping crew starts with a visit or a photo survey, then decides on crew size and truck size. We take apart beds, wardrobes and kitchens and label every piece, with its screws bagged and tied to it, so everything can be reassembled in Jordan exactly as it was.
Packing goes on in layers: bubble wrap for surfaces, rigid card for corners, then moving blankets for large pieces. Glass, mirrors and ornaments go into wooden crates where needed. Because the Tabuk route is relatively short, your furniture spends less time on the truck, which means less rubbing and vibration than on the long runs from Riyadh or Dammam.

Neighbourhoods and governorates we collect from
We collect from every part of Tabuk city, including Al Muruj, Al Faisaliyah, Al Sulaymaniyah, Al Rayyan, Al Masif, Al Wurud, Al Akhdar and King Fahd district, and from the region’s governorates: Tayma, Duba, Al Wajh, Umluj, Haql and Al Bad’. Loads from the coastal governorates may be gathered in Tabuk first and then leave with the main truck, and we set the collection day to match the truck’s departure.
Appliances and air conditioners
Fridges and washing machines are drained and their moving parts secured before loading. Air conditioners must have their gas recovered before shipping, because cylinders and units holding compressed gas are restricted items. Bear in mind that new appliances still in their boxes are not normally covered by Jordan’s returning-expatriate exemption, so factor that in if you are buying before you travel.

Car shipping from Tabuk to Jordan
Gulf International Shipping moves cars from Tabuk to Jordan in three ways: an open shared carrier that takes several cars, from SAR 1,100 for a sedan; a private flatbed for a single vehicle, from SAR 2,050 for an SUV; and an enclosed carrier for luxury cars, priced on request. The car is driven onto the carrier, strapped down at the wheels, and travels with nothing inside it.
Before booking, check that the car is accepted in Jordan. Jordan’s new vehicle-import rules ban electric vehicles more than 3 years old, counting the year of clearance, and ban any vehicle classed as salvage in its country of origin after fire, flood or a total loss. The car must also meet Jordanian specifications, which are aligned with Gulf and Saudi standards, so a car originally sold in the Gulf usually complies.
- For permanent export: the original registration card, plate surrender and export certificate, settled traffic fines, the sender’s ID and the receiver’s passport, and customs authorisation.
- For temporary entry: a carnet (Triptyque) with the driving licence and registration.
- Tip: empty the car of personal belongings and leave about a quarter tank of fuel.

Shipping cartons and bags from Tabuk to Jordan
For students, workers and families who do not need a whole truck, we run shared freight by the carton and by the bag. A carton up to 20 kg starts from SAR 65 and a bag up to 30 kg from SAR 100. Use new double-wall cartons, write the receiver’s name, Jordanian phone number and city on two sides, and put a contents list inside each box. Overstuffed boxes or ones sealed with weak tape are the most likely to be damaged, so we re-pack anything that does not look safe before loading.
If you are sending gifts, clothes or books, pack them into cartons of the same size so they stack neatly. Food is best sent in sealed retail packaging. More in our guide to shipping cartons and parcels to Jordan.
Commercial cargo from Tabuk
For shops, farms and factories in Tabuk we offer a full truckload (FTL) on a dedicated truck, or a part load (LTL) on a shared one. Commercial cargo needs a commercial invoice, a certificate of origin and the exporter’s commercial registration, and the Jordanian importer may need approvals depending on the goods. Cargo is priced by type, weight and number of pallets, so message us the cargo list on WhatsApp. For southern Jordan, the coastal route via the Al Durra crossing to Aqaba can suit some cargo better, and we suggest it when it saves you money. Our cargo guide covers the rest: goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Air freight from Tabuk to Jordan
When a shipment is urgent and light, such as documents, personal medicines or small spare parts, air freight to Queen Alia International Airport near Amman delivers it within 24 to 48 hours of handover at the airport. The shipment is booked on the most suitable available flight and may be routed through a larger Saudi airport depending on the schedule. Air freight is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so we ask for the parcel’s dimensions and weight and send you a quote on WhatsApp.
By comparison, land freight from Tabuk is already quick thanks to the short distance, so we do not recommend air for furniture or large volumes. Read air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan to see how chargeable weight is calculated and what airlines will not carry.
Customs exemption for returning Jordanians moving from Tabuk
If you are a Jordanian who has ended your residence in Tabuk and are returning for good, your furniture and household effects may be exempt from Jordanian customs duty. According to Jordan Customs, the exemption requires at least one year of residence outside Jordan and proof that the residence abroad has ended, such as a cancelled residence permit, an end-of-service certificate, a Jordanian employment contract, a lease, or school transfer papers for your children. The exemption is granted once; anyone who received a full exemption and went abroad again cannot get another for 5 years.
- Documents: proof that residence has ended, a power of attorney for the clearing agent, and an original packing list of furniture and appliances, new and used.
- Fee: a 10 JOD stamp fee; the transaction normally takes about 2 hours.
- Partial exemption: the remainder can be exempted if the goods arrive within 6 months of the owner’s arrival.
The full explanation is in Jordan’s expat furniture exemption rules.

Delivery across Jordan from Tabuk
Because trucks enter Jordan from the south, Ma’an is the first large town on the road, after which the truck continues to Amman and then on to Zarqa, Salt and Madaba. Irbid, Ramtha and Mafraq in the north sometimes need an extra day. For Aqaba, the coastal route via Al Durra can be shorter, depending on the load.

What is the cheapest way to ship from Tabuk to Jordan?
The cheapest option is shared land freight: you pay only for the space your shipment takes, and it travels with other cargo bound for Jordan. To save more, leave behind old furniture that would cost more to ship than it is worth, dismantle large pieces so they take less room, and book ahead of the holiday seasons. If you are moving a whole home, a private truck can work out cheaper than paying shared rates piece by piece. Compare the options in shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Common mistakes when shipping from Tabuk to Jordan
- An incomplete packing list: any item that is not listed can hold up clearance at Mudawwara.
- Shipping an air conditioner without recovering the gas: the unit may be refused or the truck delayed.
- Buying new appliances before travelling to use the exemption: boxed new items are not normally exempt.
- Leaving belongings inside a car being shipped: it is not allowed and causes problems at inspection.
- Assuming Halat Ammar is Al Haditha: each crossing has its own route and procedures.
- Booking late in peak season: trucks fill up and transit times stretch.
