How long does shipping from Taif to Jordan take?

A road shipment from Taif to Jordan normally takes 3 to 6 working days, counted from the day it is loaded at your door or warehouse until it is handed over in the Jordanian city you choose. The truck is not driving for six days straight. The road itself takes roughly a day and a half to two days; the rest goes on loading, waiting for a shared load to fill up, exit formalities at the Saudi border, entry and clearance at Jordanian customs, and final distribution inside Jordan.

Taif sits at the far southern end of the western region relative to the road north to the Levant, which makes it one of the Saudi cities furthest from the Jordanian border: about 1,600 km to Amman, slightly more than Makkah or Jeddah. That is why we advise customers in Taif to get in touch early and fix a loading date at least a week before they travel, especially when a whole household needs dismantling and packing.

The road a truck takes out of Taif

From Taif the truck descends towards Al-Sail and joins the road north to Madinah, continues to Tabuk, then to the Halat Ammar crossing in the Tabuk region, which faces Jordan’s Mudawwara border centre, and on to Ma’an and Amman. This is the natural route for cargo from Taif, Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah. On some shared trips that combine loads from central and eastern Saudi Arabia, the truck may instead head east through the Al-Haditha crossing in Qurayyat governorate, opposite Jordan’s Al-Omari border centre. We tell you which crossing your trip uses when you book, since it affects the arrival date and the nearest distribution city.

Loading furniture in Taif: what changes in a mountain city?

Taif is not flat like Riyadh. Many homes in Al-Hada, Al-Shafa and around Al-Radf and Shihar are built on slopes, and some inner streets are narrow and steep enough that a large truck cannot get in easily. So we never send a truck blind. We ask how wide the street is, how many floors the building has, whether there is a lift, and how far the front door is from the nearest spot where a truck can park. Those few questions prevent most loading-day problems.

Where the street is too narrow or too steep, furniture is first moved in a smaller vehicle to a nearby collection point and then loaded into the big truck on level ground. On upper floors without a lift, beds and wardrobes are fully dismantled before they go down the stairs, and any extra solution, such as a furniture hoist where the stairs are impossible, is agreed with you in advance. Loading on a slope also calls for tighter securing inside the box: heavy pieces go low and towards the front of the truck and are strapped down so nothing shifts on the hairpin bends leaving Taif.

A tip from our Taif team

If you live in Al-Hada or Al-Shafa, book an early-morning loading slot. Traffic is lighter, and the evening fog that sometimes settles on the heights slows mountain roads down. On rainy days we either postpone outdoor loading or add extra plastic covers to every piece before it leaves the house.

We cover every district of Taif, including Al-Hawiyah, Al-Shuhada North and South, Al-Qumariyah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Salamah, Al-Washha, Nakhb, Shihar, Al-Radf, Al-Aziziyah and Al-Khalidiyah, as well as Al-Hada, Al-Shafa and Al-Sail Al-Kabir, and nearby governorates such as Turabah, Al-Khurmah, Ranyah and Maysan by prior arrangement.

Moving household furniture from Taif to Jordan: dismantling, packing and reassembly

The road from Taif to Amman is long, so packing quality decides what condition your furniture arrives in. At Gulf International Shipping a household goes through fixed stages: large pieces are dismantled, screws and small parts are bagged and labelled with the piece they belong to, each item is packed according to its type, and a detailed inventory is drawn up for Jordanian customs and for reassembly at the other end.

  • Bedrooms and wardrobes: doors and drawers come off, surfaces are wrapped in corrugated card and then stretch film, and corners get rigid card protectors.
  • Sofas and Arabic majlis seating: covered with padded blankets and then plastic to keep dust out; cushions and floor mattresses go into sealed bags.
  • Appliances: the fridge is emptied and dried a day ahead, the washing-machine drum is locked, and air conditioners are emptied of refrigerant gas, since units are not accepted while still charged.
  • Glass, ornaments and rugs: glass is wrapped in paper and bubble wrap inside double-wall cartons, valuable pieces go into wooden crates on request, and rugs are rolled rather than folded.
  • Kitchens: cabinets are dismantled if they are going into the new home, and crockery goes into small heavy-duty cartons marked “fragile”.

In Jordan the furniture is delivered into the home, and bedroom sets and wardrobes can be reassembled by arrangement. For preparing a whole household, see our guide to furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan; if you are moving from nearby, also read shipping from Makkah to Jordan.

Car shipping from Taif to Jordan

Gulf International Shipping moves cars from Taif to Jordan by road with three options that differ in price and privacy. The best value is an open carrier shared with other cars, where a sedan starts from SAR 1,100. If you want your car to travel on its own, a dedicated flatbed for 4x4s and SUVs starts from SAR 2,050. Luxury and classic cars go in an enclosed carrier that keeps off dust and road grit, priced once we know the model. The car rides on the carrier for the whole journey and is never driven, so it gains no mileage and no tyre wear.

Before booking, check that your car is allowed into Jordan. The Jordanian rules currently in force do not allow in any electric car older than 3 years, with the clearance year included in that count, and of cars classed as salvage or scrap in their country of origin, such as fire-damaged, flood-damaged or written-off vehicles. Cars must meet Jordanian specifications, which accept Gulf and Saudi specs. No age limit has been announced for petrol or hybrid cars under the current rules, but fees vary with the engine type and the value of the car.

Saudi export paperwork for a car

  • The original vehicle registration (istimara) in the owner’s name.
  • Plate surrender and export through the approved procedure, with the export certificate.
  • The sender’s ID or iqama and the Jordanian recipient’s passport.
  • Payment of any outstanding traffic fines.
  • A customs authorization for the clearing agent.
  • For temporary entry without import: a carnet (Triptyk) with the licence and registration.

Costs and transport options are covered in full in our guide to car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

Shipping cartons, suitcases and Taif produce to Jordan

Not everyone shipping from Taif is moving a whole house. Many send cartons of clothes and personal things to family, or a student’s luggage back to university in Jordan. A carton starts from SAR 140 and personal belongings from SAR 9 per kg. Cartons travel in a shared truck, which costs far less than booking a whole vehicle.

Many of our Taif customers ask to send honey, rose water and other Taif rose products to relatives as gifts. These travel by road once glass bottles are well wrapped and placed in their own carton marked “liquids – fragile”. Rose oil and concentrated perfumes, however, may be treated as flammable liquids by air, so we route them by road. Large quantities of any food or fragrance product may also be treated by Jordanian customs as commercial goods rather than personal effects.

Carton sizes, packing advice and prices by sending city are on our carton and parcel shipping to Jordan page.

Commercial shipping from Taif to Jordan: full or shared loads

Traders and manufacturers in Taif have two options. A full truckload (FTL) means the truck is yours alone: it loads at your warehouse and leaves straight away without waiting for other cargo, from SAR 3,250 for a 6 m dyna and from SAR 6,000 for a 15 m trailer. A part or shared load (LTL) suits anyone with a few pallets, from SAR 555 per pallet, but departure depends on the load filling up.

Commercial goods need a commercial invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin and the sender’s commercial registration, and the Jordanian consignee should ideally have a tax number or a customs broker. For very large volumes, sea freight from Jeddah Islamic Port to the Port of Aqaba is worth considering. Details are in our guide to goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

Air freight from Taif to Jordan

For a small, urgent shipment such as official documents, prescribed personal medicine or a spare part, air freight is the fastest option: it reaches Queen Alia International Airport in Amman within 24 to 48 hours of being handed to the airline. We collect in Taif and send it through the nearest airport handling international cargo, usually King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Air freight is charged per kilo on the actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. Companies do not publish a fixed rate because it moves with airlines and seasons, so send us the weight and dimensions on WhatsApp 0568829975 for today’s price. To compare road and air, read air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

The Jordanian expatriate furniture exemption: what to know before shipping from Taif

If you are Jordanian, have finished working in Taif and are going home to settle, your used furniture may be exempt from customs duty under Jordan Customs’ rules on expatriates’ furniture. The key official conditions:

  • Time abroad: one year or more.
  • Proof that residence abroad has ended: a cancelled residence permit in the passport, end of service or resignation, a Jordanian work contract or lease, or school transfer certificates for the children.
  • How often: a full exemption is granted once; anyone who goes abroad again cannot get another for 5 years.
  • Partial exemption: whatever was not covered the first time can still be exempted if it lands within 6 months after you do.
  • Fee and processing: a JOD 10 stamp fee; the transaction normally takes about two hours.

Watch out for new appliances

New appliances still sealed in their boxes are usually not covered by the exemption and may attract duty plus the 16% sales tax. If you bought something new before leaving, use it and open the box, or work out the customs cost in advance.

Details and special cases are in our guide to the Jordan expat furniture exemption.

What can’t you ship from Taif to Jordan?

  • Weapons, ammunition and their parts; fireworks and explosives.
  • Narcotics and psychotropic substances, and medicines without a prescription.
  • Flammable liquids such as petrol and thinners, and some concentrated perfumes by air.
  • Pressurized gas cylinders, and air conditioners or fridges that still hold refrigerant.
  • Counterfeit goods or goods that infringe intellectual property.
  • Plants, seeds and herbs, which need agricultural permits.
  • Anything banned under Saudi or Jordanian law, or that needs a permit you have not obtained.

If you are unsure about an item, ask us before you pack it. A banned item found at the border holds up the whole shipment, not just the one carton.

Delivery to Jordanian cities from Taif

We deliver Taif shipments across Amman, including Abdoun, Shmeisani, Tla’ Al-Ali and Jubeiha, and to every other governorate. The times below are estimates from the day the truck leaves and run slightly longer for cities further from the crossing:

Jordanian cityTypical road transitNote
Amman3–5 working daysThe most regular destination
Zarqa and Russeifa3–5 working daysClose to Amman
Ma’an, Karak and Tafilah3–5 working daysOn the Mudawwara route south
Irbid and Ramtha4–6 working daysNorthern Jordan
Jerash, Ajloun and Mafraq4–6 working daysHighland areas with climbing roads
Salt and Madaba4–5 working daysDepends on the district
Aqaba5–7 working daysDepends on the distribution schedule
Delivery in Jerash and Ajloun
Furniture from Taif arriving at a home in the Ajloun hills

We also reach homes in the highlands of Ajloun, Jerash and Salt, which are not unlike Taif: climbing roads and tight bends. So we ask for the exact address and the recipient’s number before the truck arrives, to judge whether it can reach the door or whether a smaller vehicle is needed for the last stretch.

How is the cost of shipping from Taif to Jordan calculated?

  • Volume and weight: furniture is priced by volume (cubic metres or number of rooms), cartons by the piece or the kilo.
  • Type of truck: a private truck costs more than a shared one but is faster and waits for no one.
  • Jordanian city: Amman and Zarqa cost less than Aqaba or remote villages.
  • Loading site: a narrow street or a high floor without a lift in Taif’s hillside districts adds labour or a shuttle vehicle.
  • Packing and reassembly: packing, dismantling and reassembling a whole home is priced by the number of pieces.
  • Type of goods and customs: exempt furniture is treated differently from new appliances or dutiable commercial goods.

A worked example

A family in Al-Hawiyah ships a bedroom (from SAR 1,100), a sofa set (from SAR 740) and 5 cartons (from SAR 140 each, so SAR 700) to Amman on a shared truck. The starting point for the quote is about SAR 2,540, plus any packing or reassembly the customer asks for. The example only shows how the figures add up; your actual quote comes after we see the items or photos of them.

The cheapest way to ship from Taif to Jordan

The cheapest option is shared road freight: you pay only for the space your belongings take. You can cut costs further by shipping less. Selling large old furniture in Taif and buying replacements in Jordan can work out cheaper than shipping it, especially heavy, low-value wardrobes. Avoid busy periods such as the end of the school year and the summer holiday, when demand for trucks to Jordan peaks, and book early to catch the next shared departure.

Common mistakes when shipping from Taif to Jordan

  • Leaving the air conditioner or fridge with gas or water still inside on loading day.
  • Writing a vague inventory such as “household items” instead of listing contents, which slows customs clearance.
  • Shipping new sealed appliances as exempt used furniture.
  • Not telling the company that the house is on a narrow or steep street, so a truck turns up that cannot get in.
  • Packing gold, cash or original documents in cartons instead of carrying them with you.
  • Relying on a phone price with no details, then facing extra charges on loading day.
