This guide is written for families living in Riyadh who are relocating to Jordan, whether you are Jordanian and heading home for good or sending part of your household to relatives in Amman or Irbid. It covers our actual starting prices, how we prepare a Riyadh home for a long-haul move, the road your furniture takes, the paperwork Jordanian customs expects, and how to keep your returning-expat exemption without losing it over a small mistake.
How much does furniture moving from Riyadh to Jordan cost?
Gulf International Shipping prices a Riyadh move by the volume of your belongings, the number of pieces that need dismantling or special packing, and the delivery city in Jordan. The table below gives a starting point for each shipment type: the first figure is our “from” price and the second is the usual upper level in the market for the same item.
Approximate prices from Riyadh to Jordan
Note: road transit from Riyadh to Amman usually takes 3 to 5 working days depending on clearance at Al-Haditha and Al-Omari; urgent items by air take 24 to 48 hours.
If you are not moving a whole home, pricing by item usually works out cheaper. These are the starting prices for the pieces Riyadh customers ask about most:
These prices are for road transport to Amman. Delivery to farther cities such as Aqaba or Karak, or an upper floor without a lift in Jordan, adds to the cost. We confirm the final figure after a home survey or after you send photos and a video of the rooms on WhatsApp, and it does not change after loading unless you add items that were not on the list.
How we prepare a Riyadh home for the move to Jordan
Most damage on long-distance moves does not happen on the road; it starts with weak packing or a piece that was not dismantled properly. The trip from Riyadh to Amman is more than 1,500 km and the truck is inspected at two borders, so we pack every item as if it will be opened and handled more than once.
Survey and inventory
The Gulf International Shipping team visits your home in Riyadh, or surveys it remotely on a video call, and lists every piece along with the expected number of cartons. That list is not only for pricing: it becomes the packing list Jordanian customs asks for, and it should match the truck’s contents item by item.
Packing majlis seating, rugs and cushions
A Riyadh majlis is a different job from an ordinary sofa: long floor seating, Sadu-pattern cushions and heavy hand-woven rugs. We roll each rug on a tube, tie it and slip it into a fabric cover so it does not soak up dust, pack cushions in large light cartons, and wrap foam seating in thick plastic with card protectors on the corners.

Bedrooms and wardrobes
Beds and wardrobes are taken down to panels, and screws and hinges go into numbered bags taped to the matching piece. Mirrors and glass get bubble wrap and then double-wall cardboard. Drawers are emptied or taped shut so they cannot slide, and mattresses go into sealed covers.
Kitchen, appliances and air conditioners
Fridges and washing machines are drained and dried the day before loading, and the washer drum is locked where possible. Air-conditioning units must have their gas recovered before shipping, because pressurised gas cylinders are restricted on the road route. Plates and glasses are wrapped one by one and stood upright in purpose-made dish cartons.
Antiques and valuable pieces
For antiques, paintings, chandeliers and marble tables we build a wooden crate to the size of the piece. It adds a little to the cost, but it is the right choice for items that cannot be replaced, because the crate takes the pressure when the load is stacked above it.
Before loading day
Keep travel documents, official papers, gold and cash in a bag that stays with you, not on the truck. Mark every carton with the room it belongs in at the new home; it makes unloading in Jordan much faster.
Moving from Riyadh districts: villas, towers and loading times
We load from every part of Riyadh: the north including Al-Malqa, Al-Yasmin, Al-Narjis, Hittin, Al-Sahafa and Al-Arid; central areas such as Al-Olaya, Al-Muruj, Al-Wurud and Al-Sulaimaniyah; the east including Al-Rawdah, Al-Naseem, Al-Rayyan and Al-Munsiyah; the west such as Dhahrat Laban, Al-Suwaidi and Al-Uraija; and the south including Al-Shifa, Al-Aziziyah and Badr. Each type of home needs a different setup:
- Villas and duplexes: a closed truck parks right at the gate, and large furniture is dismantled inside the rooms before it comes down the stairs.
- Apartments in towers: we book the lift with the building guard or tower management and protect its walls; some towers want a day’s notice.
- Floors without a lift: we send extra crew and lifting straps for heavy pieces such as wardrobes and fridges.
- Summer loading: we start early in the morning to avoid the peak heat, which affects the crew and also appliances, candles and cosmetics.
Loading an average apartment usually takes 4 to 6 hours; a large villa can need a full day. If your new home in Jordan is not ready yet, your furniture can wait in a Riyadh warehouse until the shipping date suits you, with storage charged by volume and duration.
The road from Riyadh to Jordan via the Al-Haditha crossing
Gulf International Shipping trucks head north from Riyadh towards the Al-Jouf region and Qurayyat governorate, where they cross at Al-Haditha, about 36 km from Qurayyat and the Kingdom’s largest land port. Opposite it on the Jordanian side is the Al-Omari border centre, from where the truck continues to Amman, Zarqa and other cities. The total road distance is more than 1,500 km, depending on where in Riyadh the move starts.

Note: door to door the total is 3–5 working days to Amman; it can run longer at busy times at the border or if a document is missing from an exemption file.
Smaller moves do not always get their own truck; they travel in a shared truck that combines several families’ belongings. That lowers the price but can add a day or two while the load fills up. We explain both options before you book and the choice is yours.
How long does furniture take from Riyadh to Amman and other Jordanian cities?
Amman is the most requested destination, but we deliver to most cities in Jordan. Times below run from loading day in Riyadh to delivery:

Customs exemption for Jordanian expats moving from Riyadh
If you are a Jordanian citizen living in Riyadh and returning for good, Jordan Customs lets you bring in your used furniture and personal effects exempt from duty. It is the single biggest saving on the move, so we build your shipment file around the official conditions from day one:
- Time abroad: at least one year living outside Jordan.
- Proof that residence has ended: a cancelled residence permit in the passport, an end-of-service or resignation letter, a Jordanian employment contract, a lease or title deed in Jordan, or school transfer certificates for the children.
- Attendance: the husband or wife in person, or an authorised representative.
- Once only: after a full exemption, a citizen who goes abroad again cannot claim another for 5 years.
- Partial exemption: if only part was used, the rest is exempt if it arrives within 6 months of your arrival.
- Fee and processing: JOD 10 in stamps, with a standard processing time of two hours.
Watch out for new boxed appliances
In usual customs practice, new unused appliances in their original boxes are not covered by the exemption and attract duty plus Jordan’s 16% general sales tax. Quantities should also match the size of the family, and a pledge not to sell exempt items for 3 years is normally requested.
The full conditions and special cases are in our guide to the Jordan expat furniture customs exemption.
Documents needed to move furniture from Riyadh to Jordan
The complete lists for furniture, cars and goods are in documents required for shipping to Jordan.
What cannot travel with your furniture to Jordan?
The truck is inspected at two borders, and one prohibited item can hold up the entire load, not just its carton. We do not load:
- Flammable materials, explosives, fireworks, stove fuel and large aerosol cans.
- Pressurised gas cylinders, including air-conditioner gas that has not been recovered.
- Weapons, ammunition or their parts, and any narcotics or controlled medicines without a valid prescription.
- Counterfeit goods or items that infringe intellectual property.
- House plants, seedlings, seeds and herbs, whose entry depends on an agricultural permit issued before shipping.
- Anything banned under Saudi or Jordanian regulations.
Canned food and dates in household quantities are best checked with us before packing, because what is allowed depends on the type and amount.
Can my car travel with the furniture from Riyadh to Jordan?
Yes. Gulf International Shipping moves your car on the same date as your furniture or a few days later, but on a car carrier rather than inside the furniture truck. A sedan on a shared carrier starts from SAR 1,100, an SUV on a private flatbed from SAR 2,050, and luxury cars go in an enclosed carrier with a quote based on the model.
Before shipping you need the original registration card, plate surrender or export plates, an export certificate and settled traffic fines. In Jordan, electric vehicles older than 3 years are refused, as are cars classed as salvage in their country of origin. Details are in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Air freight for urgent items from Riyadh to Amman
Some things cannot wait for the truck: school clothes for the children, work equipment, or papers. For those, Gulf International Shipping sends air freight from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, arriving within 24–48 hours of clearance.
- How it is charged: by actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6,000.
- Price: set by weight, size and contents; ask for your quote on WhatsApp 0568829975.
- Not accepted by air: loose lithium batteries, flammable liquids and perfume in bulk.
What works for most families: furniture and appliances by road, plus two or three bags of essentials by air. More in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Sending only cartons and suitcases from Riyadh to Jordan
Not everyone asking about a furniture move is moving a whole house. Many Riyadh residents send cartons of clothes, books and kitchenware to family in Jordan. A carton starts from SAR 140 and loose items from SAR 9 per kg, travelling in the shared load with no truck booking needed. Write the name and a Jordanian mobile number on each carton and attach a contents list. Details in cartons and parcels shipping to Jordan.
Delivery and reassembly at your new home in Jordan
When the truck arrives we call you well before delivery. The crew carries items into the rooms marked on the cartons, reassembles beds, wardrobes and tables, and takes the packing materials away. Many homes in Amman are stone houses on slopes, some with long outside staircases; tell us in advance so we bring enough hands.

Check the pieces as they come off the truck and compare them with the packing list. If you notice a scratch or something missing, record it straight away with a photo; that is far easier than raising it days later.
What makes a Riyadh furniture move cost more or less?
- Volume in cubic metres: the main factor; a two-bedroom flat is far smaller than a villa with three majlis rooms.
- Private or shared truck: shared is cheaper but may wait for the load to fill.
- Level of packing: wooden crates for antiques add cost; standard cartons cost less.
- Delivery city: Amman and Zarqa are closer than Aqaba and Karak.
- Floors and lifts: in Riyadh and in Jordan.
- Storage: if your furniture has to wait in a warehouse before shipping.
Worked example: a family in Al-Narjis moving one bedroom (from SAR 1,100), a majlis set (from SAR 740) and 8 cartons (8 × 140 = SAR 1,120) pays from about SAR 2,960 in total, less than a full-apartment price because the volume is smaller. If the family were moving the whole flat, pricing it as one unit from SAR 3,250 would be the better deal.
The cheapest way to move furniture from Riyadh to Jordan
- Leave heavy, low-value pieces behind: moving an old wardrobe or worn mattress can cost more than replacing it in Jordan.
- Choose a shared load if your arrival date is not fixed to a specific day.
- Pack small items yourself under our guidance and leave furniture and appliances to us.
- Use the exemption: sort out your end-of-residence papers before shipping so you do not pay duty on exempt used furniture.
- Avoid peak seasons such as the end of the school year, when demand for trucks and border slots is highest.
Common mistakes to avoid on a Riyadh–Jordan move
- Shipping before cancelling residence without checking the other exemption papers, then arriving at customs with no proof.
- Packing new boxed appliances with used furniture as if they were part of it.
- Leaving air-conditioner gas or gas cylinders in the load.
- A vague packing list such as “assorted household goods” instead of an itemised list.
- Not telling the mover that the Jordanian home is on an upper floor with no lift.
- Relying on a quick phone price with no survey or photos, then being surprised by the volume on loading day.
