This page is for anyone who needs a truck, or space on one, from Riyadh to Jordan: a trader supplying a distributor in Zarqa, a factory shipping its products to Amman, or a family sending a car plus some belongings. We explain full versus part loads, the truck types available, the timeline of each stage and how the price is worked out.
When is land freight from Riyadh to Jordan the right choice?
Road is the natural link between Riyadh and Jordan: it connects the two countries directly through the Al-Jouf region with no port or airport in between. It suits anything heavy, bulky or not urgent to the hour. Here is how the options compare:
From Riyadh specifically, sea only makes sense for very large container volumes, because the cargo first has to travel by road to Jeddah. That is why most of what we ship from Riyadh to Jordan goes straight by road.
Full truckload (FTL) or part load (LTL)?
The first question we ask at booking: will your goods fill a truck? The answer sets both the price and the timing.
How part loads work at our Riyadh warehouse
Customers’ pallets arrive at the Riyadh consolidation warehouse, where each one is weighed, measured and labelled with sender and consignee, then loaded by delivery city: farthest drops at the front of the trailer, nearest at the doors. That order shortens unloading in Jordan and means less handling of your goods.

When does FTL beat LTL?
Once you pass roughly 5–6 pallets, compare the combined pallet price with a 6 m dyna from SAR 3,250; a dedicated truck is often cheaper and faster.
Truck types available from Riyadh to Jordan
Gulf International Shipping picks the truck for the type of cargo, not just its size. These are the vehicles we arrange on the Riyadh–Jordan lane:
Heavy equipment and machinery need their dimensions, weight and lifting points checked first, so send us specifications and photos before booking.
Land freight timeline from Riyadh to Jordan, stage by stage
The overall time is 3–5 working days, but it helps to know where those days go, because most delays happen at the two borders rather than on the road:
- 1Booking and paperwork
Confirm the truck type and receive the invoice, packing list and electronic broker authorisation. - 2Loading in Riyadh
4 to 6 hours for a full truck, or drop-off at the consolidation warehouse for a part load. - 3The road north
From Riyadh through the Al-Jouf region to Qurayyat governorate, the longest part of the trip. - 4Al-Haditha crossing
Saudi export formalities, usually 2 to 4 hours. - 5Al-Omari border centre
Jordanian inspection and clearance, usually 3 to 6 hours. - 6Delivery
Zarqa and Mafraq first as they are nearest the route, then Amman and other cities.
About Al-Haditha
Al-Haditha is in Qurayyat governorate in the Al-Jouf region, about 36 km from Qurayyat, and is the Kingdom’s largest land port and the gateway for Gulf trucks heading to the Levant. Do not confuse it with Halat Ammar in the Tabuk region: they are separate crossings, and Halat Ammar mainly serves cargo from Tabuk and the western region.

Car shipping by road from Riyadh to Jordan
Gulf International Shipping moves cars from Riyadh three ways: an open multi-car carrier from SAR 1,100 for a sedan, a private hydraulic flatbed from SAR 2,050 for an SUV, and an enclosed carrier for luxury cars quoted by model. In the enclosed carrier the car is fitted with a protective cover and strapped down by the wheels inside the box.

- Saudi export papers: original registration, plate surrender or export plates, export certificate, settled fines, sender ID and consignee passport.
- Temporary entry: drivers visiting with their own car need a customs pass book (Triptyk) with licence and registration.
- Jordanian import rules: electric vehicles older than 3 years including the clearance year are banned, as are cars classed as salvage in their country of origin; cars meeting Gulf or Saudi specifications are accepted.
- Transit: much like goods: 3–5 working days to Amman, faster on a private flatbed because it does not wait for a full carrier.

Documents needed for land freight from Riyadh to Jordan
A certificate of origin matters for goods made in Saudi Arabia because it may qualify them for preferential duty under Arab trade agreements; the Jordanian broker confirms this line by line. The full list is in documents required for shipping to Jordan.
What happens to goods at Jordanian customs in Al-Omari?
When the truck reaches the Al-Omari border centre, the Jordanian broker lodges the customs declaration in the importer’s name and the load is inspected. Some consignments get a document check only, others are opened to match the invoice with the contents, and food or electrical goods may be referred for standards testing or regulatory approval before release.
- Customs duty: calculated by each product’s tariff line and declared value, and may be reduced for Arab-origin goods backed by a certificate of origin.
- General sales tax: 16% on non-exempt goods, paid at clearance.
- Who pays: usually the importer in Jordan, unless you have agreed with the buyer to cover duties to the warehouse door.
- Release time: 3 to 6 hours in normal cases, longer if a lab test or extra approval is required.
Our advice to first-time exporters: agree with your Jordanian customer in advance who pays the duties, and send them the invoice and packing list before the truck leaves, so their broker can prepare the declaration before it reaches Al-Omari.
Preparing pallets for the long road to Jordan
The road from Riyadh to Al-Omari is long, with desert stretches that get hot by day, and a part-load pallet is lifted on and off more than once. So we ask our customers to do the following, or we do it for them:
- Double-wall cartons for heavy goods, stacked in an interlocking pattern rather than straight columns.
- Tight stretch wrap around the whole pallet with corner boards so straps do not cut into the cartons.
- A safe stacking height, with heavy items never placed on top of light ones.
- Labels on at least two sides showing the consignee, city and pallet count (1 of 4, 2 of 4…).
- Heat-sensitive goods such as chocolate and cosmetics need a refrigerated truck or a suitable departure time.
What trucks from Riyadh to Jordan cannot carry
- Prohibited: weapons and ammunition, narcotics, explosives and fireworks, counterfeit goods.
- Permits required: flammables and chemicals, plants, seeds and herbs, medicines and cosmetics, commercial food.
- Preparation required: air conditioners with gas recovered, large batteries with terminals insulated.
- General rule: anything banned in Saudi Arabia or Jordan is not loaded, however small the quantity.
Delivery across Jordan from Riyadh
Riyadh trucks start with the cities closest to the Al-Omari road, then head south and west. For warehouses and factories in Zarqa’s industrial area we deliver straight onto the loading dock.

How is the cost of land freight from Riyadh to Jordan calculated?
- Number of pallets or volume: on a part load, anything that takes up space is charged, even if light.
- Weight: heavy goods such as steel or ceramics are charged by weight above a set limit per pallet.
- Truck type: refrigerated and enclosed car carriers cost more than standard trucks.
- Delivery city: Zarqa is closer than Aqaba.
- Nature of the goods: items needing permits or inspection take longer at the border.
Example: a Riyadh supplier with 4 pallets of cartons pays from 4 × 555 = SAR 2,220 on a shared truck. At 7 pallets that rises to from SAR 3,885, and a 6 m dyna from SAR 3,250 becomes cheaper and faster, provided the goods fit.
The cheapest way to ship by road from Riyadh to Jordan
- Group small consignments into one shipment instead of sending a pallet every week.
- Stack goods on standard pallets (about 120 × 100 cm) to an even height; an irregular pallet is charged at a larger volume.
- Choose a part load when the delivery date is not tight.
- Have every document ready before loading; a day waiting at the border can cost more than the price gap between two carriers.
- Ask about return freight from Jordan to Riyadh if you have goods coming back; it can bring down the cost of both legs.
Common mistakes on land freight to Jordan
- A commercial invoice that does not match the truck’s contents in quantity or description.
- Shipping food or cosmetics without approval from the relevant Jordanian regulators.
- Weak pallet wrapping without stretch film or corner boards, so the load shifts on the road.
- Leaving out the Jordanian importer’s details, so the goods sit in the customs yard.
- Mixing up Al-Haditha and Halat Ammar when planning transit times.
