What makes shipping from Dammam to Jordan different?

Dammam sits on the Kingdom’s eastern edge and Jordan lies to the north-west, so a shipment leaving the Eastern Province crosses Saudi Arabia almost diagonally before it reaches the border. That extra distance is the first thing customers in Dammam or Khobar should factor in: the trip is several hundred kilometres longer than from Riyadh, and far longer than the roughly 450 km run from Tabuk. Packing has to cope with long hours on the road, and loading has to be timed so the truck reaches Al-Haditha during normal working hours.

At Gulf International Shipping we run the Eastern Province as a route in its own right, with its own schedule, rather than tacking it onto the Riyadh service. Small shipments from across the province are consolidated into shared loads heading north towards Qurayyat, so you only pay for the space you use. A full household or a truckload of commercial goods gets a dedicated closed truck that leaves straight from your door or warehouse.

Coastal humidity is the other local factor. Wooden furniture, mattresses and appliances wrapped in humid air and then carried into a drier climate need packing that stops moisture condensing between the layers. In Dammam and Khobar we add a moisture barrier under the corrugated cardboard, and we never seal an appliance until it is completely dry after cleaning.

Route and transit time from Dammam to Jordan

  • Distance: over 1,600 km from Dammam and Dhahran to Amman depending on the road; route planners put it at about 17 hours of non-stop driving in a private car
  • Saudi border: Al-Haditha, in Qurayyat Governorate in the Al-Jouf region, about 36 km from Qurayyat city and the Kingdom’s largest land port
  • Jordanian border: the Al-Omari border centre opposite Al-Haditha, which handles trucks and passengers
  • Road freight: 3 to 6 working days door to door
  • Air freight: 24 to 48 hours for parcels, documents and urgent parts

A truck does not cover the road the way a car does: it runs slower, stops for mandatory rest and then queues in the yards at both borders. That is why we quote transit in days rather than hours, and update you at each stage — loading, arrival at Al-Haditha, crossing at Al-Omari and delivery.

Tip for Eastern Province customers

If your shipment is under half a truck, ask for a shared load. We group shipments from Dammam, Khobar and Jubail into one northbound trip, which noticeably cuts your share of the long-haul cost. Full details are in shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

Which Eastern Province cities do we collect from?

You don’t need to bring anything to Dammam. The Gulf International Shipping team collects door to door across the Eastern Province, and shipments are then grouped at a single loading point before departure. Here is what each city typically sends:

Furniture moving from Dammam to Jordan: dismantling, packing and loading

Jordanian families relocating home from the Eastern Province are the largest group we serve on this route. With the furniture travelling over 1,600 km and passing two customs inspections, the packing decides its condition on arrival more than anything else. Every job starts with a survey, either a visit or a WhatsApp video call, so we can plan the number of cartons and materials.

  • Bedrooms: wardrobes and beds are dismantled, panels wrapped in moving blankets then stretch film, and screws bagged and tied to each piece.
  • Kitchens: glassware and china are wrapped piece by piece in paper and bubble wrap and packed in double-wall cartons marked fragile.
  • Majlis and sofas: covered in moisture-proof film with cardboard corner guards, since corners take the knocks when loads are stacked.
  • Appliances: washing machines are drained and their drums locked, AC units are degassed before shipping, and large TVs go into dedicated crates.
  • Antiques and valuables: custom wooden crates on request.

Once everything is packed we write a packing list showing the number of cartons and what each contains. It is not a formality: Jordan Customs asks for it in the returning-expatriate furniture exemption, and you need it on delivery to check the count. If you are moving back to Jordan after living abroad, read the Jordanian expat furniture exemption rules before packing, because new appliances still in their boxes are usually not covered.

Car shipping from Dammam to Jordan

We move cars from the Eastern Province to Jordan in three ways: a shared car carrier taking several vehicles, from SAR 1,100 for a sedan; a private hydraulic flatbed for SUVs, from SAR 2,050; and an enclosed carrier for luxury cars, priced by model. Every car travels covered and strapped at four points.

Before booking, make sure your car is allowed into Jordan under the new Jordanian rules: electric vehicles more than 3 years old (counting the clearance year) are banned, as are cars classed as salvage in their country of origin after fire, flood or total loss. Petrol and hybrid cars must meet the specifications Jordan accepts, which include Gulf and Saudi standards. Full rules and paperwork are in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

Shipping goods and pallets from the Eastern Province to Jordan

The Eastern Province is an industrial and trading hub, sending spare parts, building materials, plastics and packaged food to Jordan. Gulf International Shipping handles this cargo in two ways:

  • Less than truckload (LTL): one or more pallets in a shared truck, from SAR 555 per pallet
  • Full truckload (FTL): a truck dedicated to you — a 6 m dyna from SAR 3,250, a 15 m trailer from SAR 6,000

Commercial cargo needs a commercial invoice, the exporter’s commercial registration, a certificate of origin when claiming a duty exemption or reduction, and some goods need prior approval from the relevant Jordanian authority. We go through the paperwork with you before loading so the truck is not held at Al-Omari. More in goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan and our land freight service.

Air freight from Dammam to Amman

When a shipment can’t wait for the road, we fly it from King Fahd International Airport in Dammam to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, usually arriving within 24 to 48 hours once the paperwork is done. Air suits original documents, urgent spare parts, permitted prescription medicines, small gifts and suitcases the owner needs on arrival.

Air freight is charged per kilogram, comparing actual and volumetric weight and billing whichever is higher, so we don’t publish a fixed per-kg rate. Send the weight and dimensions on WhatsApp 0568829975 and we will price it the same day. More in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan and our air freight service.

Does sea freight from Dammam to Aqaba make sense?

Aqaba is Jordan’s only seaport and it lies on the Red Sea. A ship leaving an Arabian Gulf port has to sail around the whole Arabian Peninsula to get there, so the sea route from Dammam is usually longer and slower than the road. We only suggest it for very large, non-urgent commercial consignments; for furniture, cars and cartons, the road through Al-Haditha is the practical option from the Eastern Province.

Documents required for shipping from Dammam to Jordan

Shipment typeDocuments
Furniture and personal effectsCopy of ID or iqama, copy of the receiver’s passport, original packing list, power of attorney to the clearing agent when claiming the exemption
Returning expat’s furnitureProof that residence abroad has ended (cancelled iqama, end of service or a Jordanian work contract) and the original packing list
CarsOriginal registration (istimara), export plates and export certificate, settled traffic fines, sender’s ID and receiver’s passport
Commercial goodsCommercial invoice, commercial registration, certificate of origin, packing list and customs authorisation through the Fasah platform

The detailed list for each case is in documents required for shipping to Jordan, and we handle clearance on both sides through our customs clearance service.

What can’t you ship from Dammam to Jordan?

Keep these out of your shipment

  • Weapons, ammunition, fireworks and explosives.
  • Narcotics and any medicine without a prescription.
  • Flammable liquids: petrol, thinner, paint and large quantities of aerosol cans.
  • Pressurised gas cylinders — AC units and fridges must be degassed before shipping.
  • Plants, seeds and herbs, which need agricultural permits in advance.
  • Counterfeit goods and anything banned under Saudi or Jordanian law.

Not sure about an item? Ask us before packing. Opening cartons at the border to remove a banned item delays the whole shipment — and, in a shared load, other customers’ shipments too.

Delivery across Jordan: transit time from Dammam by city

Most Eastern Province shipments reach Amman and Zarqa first, as both lie on the road in from Al-Omari, and are then distributed to the other governorates. These are door-to-door times and may run a day longer in peak seasons:

Delivery cityApprox. transit from DammamNote
Amman (Abdoun, Shmeisani, Tla’a Al-Ali, Jubeiha)3–5 working daysMost requested city
Zarqa and Russeifa3–5 working daysClose to the entry road
Mafraq3–5 working daysNearest governorate to Al-Omari
Irbid and Ramtha4–6 working daysIn the north, beyond Amman
Salt, Madaba, Jerash and Ajloun4–6 working daysHill roads and sometimes narrow lanes
Karak, Tafilah and Ma’an4–6 working daysIn the south
Aqaba5–7 working daysFurthest point from Al-Omari
Delivery in Salt and Amman
The truck on one of Salt’s stepped streets — a smaller vehicle is arranged for narrow lanes when needed

In hillside districts such as Salt and parts of old Amman, a large truck may not reach the front door. We then transfer the furniture to a smaller vehicle and finish the delivery without you carrying anything. Give us your full address when booking so we can plan for it.

How is the shipping cost from Dammam to Jordan worked out?

  • Volume in cubic metres: the main factor for furniture — one bedroom is not a three-bedroom home.
  • Weight: the main factor for cartons, suitcases and air freight.
  • Load type: shared is cheaper; dedicated is faster and more flexible on dates.
  • Delivery city: Amman and Zarqa cost less than Aqaba or Tafilah.
  • Extras: dismantling and reassembly, wooden crating, a hoist for upper floors, storage before shipping.

Worked example from Khobar

A family in Khobar sends a bedroom, a majlis and 10 cartons to Zarqa in a shared load: bedroom from SAR 1,100 + majlis from SAR 740 + 10 cartons from SAR 1,400 = from about SAR 3,240. For a whole home, the full-apartment rate from SAR 3,250 may work out cheaper than pricing per item — we calculate both and go with the lower.

The cheapest way to ship from Dammam to Jordan

  • Choose a shared load if you are not in a hurry — it is the best value on a long route.
  • Before shipping, get rid of old furniture that costs more to move than to replace in Jordan.
  • Put small items into uniform cartons rather than loose bags and suitcases.
  • Book early, ahead of holiday and return seasons when trucks fill up.
  • If you are a returning expat, meet the exemption conditions to save on customs duty and sales tax.

Mistakes Eastern Province customers make when shipping to Jordan

  • Packing in humid air without a barrier: leads to swollen wood and a damp smell when the cartons are opened.
  • Forgetting to degas the AC: the unit can be refused or held at the border.
  • Mixing boxed new appliances into exempt furniture: they are usually not exempt and may be charged duty.
  • A vague packing list: “household items” is not enough — list what is in each carton.
  • An imprecise Jordanian address: delays delivery, especially in hillside districts.
