Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan

Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan with Gulf International Shipping runs by road on car carriers or hydraulic flatbeds from any Saudi city to Amman, Zarqa, Irbid and the rest of Jordan, usually in 3 to 5 working days on a shared carrier and faster on a private flatbed. A sedan on a shared carrier starts from SAR 1,100 and an SUV on a private flatbed from SAR 2,050; luxury cars in an enclosed carrier are priced by model. Before booking, check that your car meets Jordan’s new import rules, then call 0568829975.

Can your car enter Jordan? The new Jordanian rules

This is the first question to answer before you even think about price. Jordan has started applying new rules to restructure its vehicle sector, changing what may be imported. Many pages online still repeat outdated or unsourced conditions — such as “only cars under 5 years old” — and no such limit appears in the announced rules for petrol and hybrid cars.

Vehicle typeStatus under the new Jordanian rulesWhat to do before shipping
Petrol carAllowed if it meets the accepted specifications (European, US, Gulf or Saudi); no maximum age announcedConfirm it is a Gulf or Saudi spec car with clean papers
HybridAllowed if it meets the same specificationsKeep proof of the factory specification
Electric, up to 3 years oldAllowed — the age counts the clearance yearWork out the age at the expected clearance date, not the shipping date
Electric, over 3 years oldBannedDo not ship it for import
Salvage (fire, flood or total loss)BannedCheck the car’s history before buying or shipping

Watch the age of an electric car

The year the car is cleared counts towards its age. An EV at the end of its third year can tip over the limit if clearance slips into the following year. If yours is close, ship early or ask us before booking.

These rules cover the permanent import of a car into Jordan. Driving into Jordan temporarily for a visit and returning to the Kingdom is a different case, explained in the Triptyk section below. Jordanian import duties and taxes are assessed at Jordanian customs according to the car’s type, engine and value under the regulations in force at clearance.

Ways to ship a car from Saudi Arabia to Jordan

On this route cars travel by road only, as Jordan is linked to the Kingdom by direct highways. Gulf International Shipping offers three methods; the choice depends on the car, its value and how soon you need it:

Shared open car carrier

A two-deck truck carrying several customers’ cars — the cheapest option, because the trip cost is split across all of them. From SAR 1,100 for a sedan, it suits ordinary family cars. Departure depends on the load filling up, so your car may wait a day or two in the loading yard.

Private hydraulic flatbed

A low flatbed carrying only your car, leaving on the date you set. From SAR 2,050 for SUVs and 4x4s, it suits large or tall vehicles and anyone who needs a fixed handover date in Jordan. The hydraulic deck lifts the car without driving it up a steep ramp, which matters for low cars.

Enclosed carrier for luxury cars

A closed box protecting the car from dust, gravel and sun for the whole trip, used for luxury, classic and sports cars. The price depends on the model and dimensions, so send us the car details on WhatsApp for a quote.

How much does it cost to ship a car from Saudi Arabia to Jordan?

Gulf International Shipping prices are based on the lowest published market rates for Riyadh to Jordan and sit 5–10% below them. The same rates apply from Tabuk and Madinah, as nobody publishes car rates from there.

Shipment typeTransport / detailsApproximate cost (SAR)
Car (sedan)Shared open carrierSAR 1,100 – 1,900
SUV / 4×4Private hydraulic flatbedSAR 2,050 – 3,500
Luxury or classic carEnclosed carrierBy model — ask for a quote

Note: shipping a car by road usually takes 3 to 5 working days depending on the departure city, delivery city and customs clearance; a private flatbed is faster than a shared carrier.

What pushes the price up or down?

  • Car size: a small sedan costs less than a large SUV because it takes less space on the carrier.
  • Carrier type: shared is cheaper; private and enclosed cost more.
  • Departure city: collection far from the loading point adds an inland leg.
  • Delivery city: Amman and Zarqa are closer than Aqaba or Karak.
  • Condition: a non-running car needs special lifting and may cost more.
  • Shipping with furniture: one booking for both cuts coordination and clearance costs.

Export documents for a car leaving Saudi Arabia

Exporting a car from the Kingdom follows a clear procedure, and most delays happen because a missing document is discovered at the border. This is what we ask for before loading:

DocumentWhy it is neededNote
Original registration (istimara)Proves ownershipMust be valid
Plate drop (export plates)Removes the car from the Saudi traffic registerDone after fines are settled
Export certificateCustoms document for the car to leaveWe help you obtain it
Settled traffic finesA car with fines cannot be exportedCheck on Absher
Sender’s ID and receiver’s passportFor Saudi export and Jordanian receiptClear copies
Customs authorisationTo clear the car in your nameElectronically via the Fasah platform

A car under a bank lien or a finance lease will not leave until the finance company approves and the lien is released. If the owner is not the person shipping it, a formal authorisation from the owner is required. The full list for every shipment type is in documents required for shipping to Jordan.

The Triptyk: when you need it and when you don’t

A Triptyk is a temporary-entry document that lets a car enter and leave Jordan without paying import duty, provided it leaves within the permitted period. You need one if you will stay in Jordan for a limited time and then drive back to the Kingdom; your driving licence and registration are required with it.

If the move is permanent — you are resettling in Jordan or selling the car there — it is a permanent import: drop the Saudi plates, clear Jordanian customs and pay the duties, then register the car on Jordanian plates. Mixing up the two is a common mistake that ends with the car turned back at the border or with charges the owner did not expect.

Our advice

Decide on your purpose before booking: temporary entry or permanent import. We set the paperwork and method accordingly, and our team handles customs clearance on both sides.

Preparing your car before loading

  1. 1Clean and photograph it
Clear photos of all four sides, the roof and the dashboard before loading, to record its condition.
  2. 2Empty the cabin
Leave no personal items or papers in the car — they do not travel with it and can hold up inspection.
  3. 3Leave little fuel
A quarter tank is enough for loading and unloading; a full tank only adds weight.
  4. 4Disable the alarm and secure accessories
Turn the alarm off and remove the external aerial, bike rack or anything detachable.
  5. 5Check the battery and tyres
The car must start and roll easily when it is unloaded in Jordan.
  6. 6Hand over the key and papers
One key with the original documents to our agent, against a receipt.

Car shipping route and transit by departure city

The border depends on where the car starts. Cars leaving Riyadh, the Eastern Province, Qassim and Ha’il usually go through Al-Haditha in Qurayyat Governorate and enter Jordan at the Al-Omari border centre. From Tabuk and the western region the natural route is the Halat Ammar crossing in the Tabuk region, then Al-Mudawwara towards Ma’an and Amman, though a carrier may sometimes use Al-Haditha depending on how the load is consolidated.

Shipping your car and furniture in one booking

Most customers shipping a car to Jordan are families relocating completely, so the furniture and the car go together. The car travels on a car carrier and the furniture in a closed truck, but there is one booking and one clearance coordinator, and we arrange for both to arrive within a close window. That saves you dealing with two companies and duplicate paperwork. For the furniture side read furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan, and for the exemption rules the Jordanian expat furniture exemption.

Can a car be shipped to Jordan by air?

Flying a whole car is technically possible but very expensive next to road freight, and it makes little sense on a route where a carrier arrives within days. Air freight helps car owners in other ways: sending the spare key and original documents, or urgent spare parts to Amman. Air shipments from Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam reach Queen Alia International Airport within 24 to 48 hours and are charged per kg on actual or volumetric weight, so ask for a quote on WhatsApp 0568829975. Receiving your car in Jordan

On arrival the car is unloaded at the handover yard or at your address, as agreed. Before signing, compare its condition with the photos taken at loading: paintwork, glass, tyres and odometer reading. Our team removes the protective cover in front of you.

We deliver to Amman, Zarqa, Irbid, Mafraq, Salt, Madaba, Karak, Ma’an and Aqaba. For a permanent import, the receiver then registers and licenses the car with the relevant Jordanian authorities.

Common mistakes when shipping a car to Jordan

  • Relying on old rules: such as the often-quoted five-year limit, instead of checking the new Jordanian rules.
  • Shipping an EV close to the 3-year limit: without counting the clearance year.
  • Ignoring traffic fines: they block the plate drop and delay export.
  • Leaving belongings in the car: they hold up inspection and may be confiscated.
  • Not photographing the car: makes any later claim difficult.
  • Confusing temporary entry with permanent import: leads to unexpected charges.
