Gulf International Shipping ships furniture from Saudi Arabia to Jordan door to door: we dismantle and pack your rooms at home in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or any other city, load them into a closed truck, then unload and assemble them in your new home in Amman, Irbid or Zarqa, usually within 3 to 5 working days. At Gulf International Shipping prices start from SAR 1,100 for a bedroom, SAR 1,650 for a studio with dismantling and assembly, SAR 3,250 for a full apartment, SAR 7,850 for a villa and SAR 140 per carton.
This guide is for anyone closing their home in the Kingdom and moving to Jordan: how to prepare the furniture, what to ship and what to leave, how to write the packing list customs asks for, when furniture enters duty-free, and what happens to new electrical appliances.

How is your home furniture shipped from Saudi Arabia to Jordan?
A furniture move starts days before the truck arrives. The first step at Gulf International Shipping is a home survey, either a visit from our team or a short WhatsApp video in which you walk through every room. From it we estimate the volume in cubic metres, decide whether space in a shared load is enough or the home needs a private truck, and suggest a loading date.
On loading day the crew brings every material: strong cartons in several sizes, stretch film, bubble wrap, cardboard corners for glass tops and moving blankets for wood. Whatever can be dismantled is dismantled, and every carton gets a number matching a line on the packing list. Heavy pieces go deep in the truck with lighter ones on top, all strapped so nothing shifts on the long road. The truck then heads for the border, clears Saudi and then Jordanian customs, and reaches your address, where we unload, assemble and remove the packing.
Furniture shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Jordan
These are Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices for moving furniture from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Makkah, Taif and other Saudi cities to Jordan. Each figure is the lowest price for that item; it rises with volume, number of pieces, floor level and truck type.
Note: furniture by road usually takes 3 to 5 working days to Amman depending on crossing and customs release; urgent luggage by air takes 24 to 48 hours.
Single-item prices
Moving from Tabuk or Madinah? The Halat Ammar route is shorter, so a bedroom starts from SAR 1,020, a living room from SAR 1,200, a full 3- to 5-room home from SAR 5,350, an electrical appliance from SAR 415 and packing the whole home from SAR 690.
What raises or lowers the cost of moving furniture to Jordan?
Two customers in similar flats can pay different prices; the reason is in the details, not the number of rooms:
- Actual furniture volume: a six-door wardrobe and a solid-wood bookcase can take as much space as a whole room
- Floor and lift: loading from a fourth floor with no lift needs more crew and time
- Dismantling and assembly: fitted bedrooms and kitchens need a technician; sofas and tables travel as they are
- Private or shared truck: private is faster and dearer; shared is cheaper but waits for the load to fill
- Delivery city: Amman and Zarqa are closer than Irbid, Aqaba or Karak
- Special packing: wooden crates for antiques, large mirrors and paintings are added to the price
Example: a Jordanian employee in Jeddah lives in a flat with two bedrooms, a living room and a majlis. Gulf International Shipping’s estimate starts from SAR 3,250 for the apartment, plus a majlis set from SAR 740 if it is large and outside the base volume, and a 65-inch TV from SAR 370, a starting total of about SAR 4,360; the final price is fixed after the survey.
Packing furniture before the trip to Jordan
The road from Riyadh or Jeddah to Amman is more than 1,500 km, and the truck stops and is opened for inspection at least twice. International packing therefore differs from a move across town: every piece must survive long hours of vibration and be opened and closed in front of a customs officer without damage.

Before loading
Never ship a fridge with water in it or a washing machine that is still wet. Damp inside a closed truck for days causes smells and mould that spread to nearby fabrics. The Jordanian expat furniture exemption: what to know before shipping
If you are a Jordanian returning home after living in the Kingdom, your furniture and personal effects may enter without customs duty. Jordan Customs’ official instructions require residence outside Jordan of one year or more, proof that your residence abroad has ended, and the furniture owner, or their spouse, appearing in person or through an authorised representative. The exemption is granted once: anyone who received a full exemption and then went abroad again cannot get a new one for 5 years.

Several papers prove that residence abroad has ended, including a cancelled residence permit in the passport, an end-of-service or resignation letter, a work contract in Jordan, a lease or title deed for a home there, or the children’s school transfer certificates. A stamp fee of 10 Jordanian dinars applies, and the transaction usually takes about two hours when the file is complete. We cover everything, including partial exemptions and the six-month window, in our Jordan expat furniture exemption guide.
A common error
Many shipping pages claim the exemption requires two years abroad. The official instructions say one year or more.Electrical appliances at Jordanian customs
Appliances cause more surprises than anything else in a furniture shipment. In usual customs practice, used household appliances in quantities that fit the family’s size are treated like furniture, while new appliances in their original boxes are not treated as used belongings and may attract customs duty plus Jordan’s 16% general sales tax. Quantities beyond a household’s needs, such as three washing machines or five TVs, are read as commercial.
- Ship your used appliances and mark them as used on the packing list, with brand and type.
- If you bought a new appliance before travelling, use it and take it out of its box, or budget for duty on it.
- Avoid shipping more than one appliance of the same kind unless there is a clear reason.
- Have the gas removed from air conditioners and fridges; pressurised gas is banned in the load.
Documents required for shipping furniture to Jordan
A furniture file has two sides: exit papers for the Kingdom and entry papers for Jordan. Preparing both before loading day cuts the wait at the border.
A wider list covering cars and goods is in documents required for shipping to Jordan.
How to write the packing list for a furniture shipment
The packing list is the sheet a customs officer compares with what is inside the truck. A good one is numbered, and each line describes a carton or piece clearly enough to identify it. At Gulf International Shipping we write it with the customer during packing, not afterwards, so the number on each carton matches its line on the sheet.

Furniture delivery and assembly in Jordanian cities
Unloading in Amman is not like unloading in Riyadh. Many Amman homes sit on hills and steep streets, and some older buildings have no lift or a narrow stairwell. That is why the Gulf International Shipping team asks about the address early, sends the right number of movers and switches to a smaller vehicle where needed to reach the door.

After unloading, the crew assembles beds, wardrobes and tables and clears away the packing. Kitchens that need adapting to a new wall and air conditioners that need piping and a gas recharge require a local specialist, and we advise booking one in advance.
Shipping luggage by air to Jordan for urgent items
Furniture travels by road, but some things cannot wait a week: the children’s school clothes, work files or an office laptop. Gulf International Shipping flies these from Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, usually in 24 to 48 hours. Here the price depends on weight and volume, so send the weight and size of your bags and ask for a quote on WhatsApp. The smart split is to fly what you need in the first week and send the rest with the furniture. Details are in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.

Shipping your car with your furniture to Jordan
Many returning families want the car moved in the same booking as the home. The car does not go inside the furniture truck but on a separate car carrier: a shared carrier for a sedan from SAR 1,100, or a private flatbed for an SUV from SAR 2,050. We schedule loading on the same day or close to it so the car and furniture arrive at about the same time. Before shipping, check that your car is accepted in Jordan: electric cars more than 3 years old are banned. Details are in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Moving furniture to Jordan from any Saudi city
The Gulf International Shipping team loads furniture in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar, Makkah, Madinah, Taif, Tabuk, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran, Al-Ahsa, Jubail and Yanbu. The crossing depends on your city: homes in Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Qassim usually head for Al-Haditha and Al-Omari, while Tabuk and Madinah usually cross from Halat Ammar to Al-Mudawwara. The south, such as Abha, Jazan and Najran, is further away, so we group its loads into shared trucks heading north unless the customer wants a private one.
Each city has its own guide with districts and loading details, such as furniture moving from Riyadh to Jordan and furniture moving from Jeddah to Jordan.
Temporary furniture storage before shipping
Handing back a flat in Saudi Arabia does not always line up with your home in Jordan being ready. A Riyadh lease may end a month before the finishing work on your Amman flat, or the end-of-service letter your exemption file needs may be delayed. In that case the furniture can be stored wrapped and numbered for a set period, then shipped once the file is complete and the home is ready. Mention it when you ask for a price so storage is included; well-packed furniture needs no repacking when it leaves the store.
Shipping office and clinic furniture to Jordan
Furniture moves are not only for homes. Some customers relocate an engineering office, a clinic or a small shop to Jordan, with desks, chairs, filing cabinets and shelving. It is dismantled and packed the same way, but the paperwork differs: office furniture is not usually treated like the household furniture and personal effects covered by the expat exemption; it is assessed by type and value. Office equipment such as printers and servers needs shock-resistant packing and a list of serial numbers. We explain what counts as household furniture and what counts as business equipment before loading, so there are no surprise duties at the border.
Private truck or shared load for furniture?
If your furniture is one or two rooms, a shared load is enough and saves money; for a whole home a private truck is often cheaper than paying for scattered space in several loads. We compare both options in figures after the survey.
What must not go into a furniture shipment?
- Gas cylinders and any pressurised gas, including the gas in air conditioners and fridges.
- Flammables: petrol, kerosene, paint, solvents and aerosols in quantity.
- Weapons, ammunition and licensed hunting equipment.
- Plants, seedlings and seeds without an agricultural permit.
- Perishable food, since a closed truck is not refrigerated.
- Cash, jewellery and original documents; carry these with you.

The cheapest way to move furniture to Jordan
A family that sorts its furniture ruthlessly before shipping saves more than any discount. Some furniture bought in the Kingdom was meant to last only a few years, and shipping it costs close to buying a replacement in Jordan. Compare before you decide:
- Ship what is hard to replace: good wooden bedrooms, tailored majlis seating, antiques and modern used appliances.
- Sell what is easy to buy: old mattresses, metal shelving and plastic tables.
- Choose a shared load if the volume is less than a full apartment.
- Avoid the summer peak and the end-of-contract season, when demand for trucks rises.
- From Tabuk and Madinah, use the lower price list of the shorter Halat Ammar route.

Mistakes expatriates make when moving furniture to Jordan
- Buying new appliances days before travelling in the hope they enter duty-free with the furniture.
- Shipping before the proof of ended residence is ready, so the truck reaches the border with an incomplete file.
- Writing a vague packing list such as “household items, 40 cartons” with no detail.
- Leaving clothes inside dismantled wardrobes, where they get damaged or opened for inspection.
- Losing the bags of screws and fittings, which delays assembly in Jordan.
- Not telling the company there is no lift in the destination building.
