What happens on loading day at your Jeddah home?
The day starts with a short walk-through in which the supervisor decides what gets dismantled, what travels whole and what you will carry in your own luggage. The crew then protects floors, doors and lifts with covers, starts with the inner rooms and finishes with the kitchen and living room so the corridor stays clear.
Every dismantled piece has its screws and hinges sealed in a clear bag taped to it, and every carton is marked with its number and room. These small details are what make reassembly in Amman quick and correct, because the crew there knows where every part belongs without searching.

High-rise buildings and the external hoist
Many Jeddah apartments are in corniche towers or in buildings without a lift big enough for large pieces. When a sofa or a big wardrobe will not fit in the lift, we use an external hoist from the balcony once we have checked the space in front of the building. Tell us the floor and lift size when you book so we bring the right equipment and loading is not delayed.
Packing each piece the way it needs
Jeddah humidity and packing
Jeddah’s humid air means furniture sealed tightly while still damp can trap moisture. That is why we ask you to dry the fridge and washing machine a full day ahead, we never wrap rugs or bedding while wet, and we put a cardboard layer between wood and plastic on valuable pieces so their surfaces do not sweat on the road.
Two days before loading
Switch off and dry the fridge, clean the washing machine and leave its door open, and put documents, gold, cash and medicines in a hand bag that stays with you and never goes on the truck.

Is your old furniture worth the cost of moving to Jordan?
Before working out the price, ask yourself about each piece: is it worth more than the cost of packing and moving it? A solid-wood bedroom, a made-to-measure majlis or family heirlooms are usually worth taking. Particleboard wardrobes that have been assembled and dismantled several times, old mattresses and appliances more than ten years old are often cheaper and safer to sell in Jeddah and replace in Jordan.
Think about power and sizes too: Saudi appliances generally run on a voltage that suits Jordan, but some older items designed for 110 volts need a converter. Kitchen sizes in Jordanian apartments may also differ from your Jeddah flat, so only move fitted kitchen cabinets if you are sure they will suit the new space.
Temporary storage in Jeddah before shipping
Sometimes the lease in Jeddah ends before the home in Jordan is ready, or you want the furniture to travel after the school year ends. In that case Gulf International Shipping arranges temporary storage for the packed furniture, then ships it on the date you choose. Storage is priced by volume and duration, so tell us the expected number of weeks when you ask for a quote.
The route your furniture takes and how long it takes
The furniture truck leaves Jeddah heading north to Madinah and Tabuk, crosses the border from Halat Ammar to Jordan’s Al-Mudawwara border centre, and continues via Ma’an to Amman. Some shared trucks go through Al-Haditha instead when they are also collecting loads from Riyadh or the north, and we confirm the crossing before departure.

If you are flying and your furniture arrives a few days after you, book two or three nights of temporary accommodation in Amman, or ask a relative to collect the keys and be there on unloading day.
The furniture exemption for Jordanians returning from Jeddah
Jordan Customs exempts the furniture and personal effects of returning expatriates under conditions published on its official website. The main ones are:
- Time abroad: one year or more of residence outside Jordan.
- Proof that residence has ended: a cancelled residence permit in the passport, an end-of-service or resignation letter, a Jordanian employment contract, a lease or title deed, or school transfer certificates for the children.
- Once only: someone who received a full exemption and then went abroad again cannot use it again for 5 years.
- Partial exemption: the remainder can be exempted if it arrives within 6 months of the owner’s arrival.
- Documents: a power of attorney for the customs broker and an original packing list of furniture and appliances, new or used.
- Fee and time: 10 JOD in stamps, with a standard processing time of 2 hours.
The owner, husband or wife, attends in person or through an authorised representative. In usual practice, new appliances still in their original boxes are not treated as used furniture and may attract duty and the 16% sales tax. The full guide is in the Jordan expat furniture exemption.
Worth knowing
Your furniture can reach Jordan before you do, but the exemption needs you or your representative present, so we time clearance around your arrival or your agent’s availability.
Documents for moving furniture from Jeddah to Jordan
- Copy of the sender’s ID or iqama and of the recipient’s passport in Jordan.
- A detailed packing list of every carton and piece, ideally naming appliance brands.
- Final-exit or residence-cancellation paperwork if you are claiming the exemption.
- A power of attorney or authorisation for the customs broker in Jordan.
- The exact delivery address and a working Jordanian phone number.
The full list by shipment type is in documents required for shipping to Jordan.
What does not go on the furniture truck
Some things are banned by law; others are allowed but belong in your luggage, not on the truck:
Banned on the truck
Filled gas cylinders, fuel, flammable materials, weapons and ammunition, fireworks.
Needs a permit
Plants, seeds and soil, medicines in large quantities, and some foodstuffs.
Stays with you
Passports, certificates and contracts, gold, jewellery and cash, daily medicines, laptops and phones.
Shipping the family car with the furniture
If your car is moving with you, Gulf International Shipping carries it on a shared carrier from SAR 1,100 for a sedan, or on a private flatbed from SAR 2,050 for an SUV. The car never rides inside the furniture truck, and nothing should be packed inside the car. Before shipping, check that it meets Jordanian specifications and that an electric car is no more than 3 years old. Read car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Air freight for urgent bags from Jeddah
What you need in your first days in Jordan, such as children’s clothes, schoolbooks and work equipment, can fly from Jeddah to Queen Alia Airport in Amman within 24 to 48 hours while the rest of the furniture goes by road. Air freight is charged on actual or volumetric weight, so send us the weight and size of the bags on WhatsApp 0568829975 for your quote. See also air freight from Saudi Arabia to Jordan.
Delivery and reassembly in Jordanian cities
In Jordan the furniture is unloaded, carried into its rooms, and the beds and wardrobes are reassembled. Many Amman neighbourhoods sit on hills with narrow streets, so tell us in advance about street width, the floor and whether there is a lift, and we will arrange a smaller truck for the last stretch if needed.

How to lower the cost of moving your furniture from Jeddah
- Drop the heavy, cheap pieces: if an old item is worth less than moving it, sell it in Jeddah and replace it in Jordan.
- Choose shared space: one or two rooms do not need a private truck.
- Pack cartons yourself: books, clothes and kitchenware boxed before loading day cut the crew’s time.
- Book early: the end of the school year is a busy season on the road to Jordan.
- Get the exemption papers ready: one missing document can mean duty on furniture that should have been exempt.

- Forgetting to cancel the residence permit or obtain final exit before claiming the exemption.
- Packing valuables or original documents inside the cartons.
- Not telling the mover about a narrow street or a missing lift at the Jordanian address.
