Shipping from Tabuk to Turkey

Need a shipping company from Tabuk to Turkey? Gulf International Shipping gathers furniture, cartons and goods across Tabuk, Tayma, Duba, Al-Wajh, Umluj and Haql and trucks them, sealed, close to a thousand kilometres south to Jeddah Islamic Port. There the container boards a ship through the Suez Canal for Mersin or for the Sea of Marmara ports on Istanbul’s edge, is cleared, and travels on to your Turkish city, even one as far as Trabzon. The road leg makes Tabuk a little slower than Jeddah: 16 to 23 days for Mersin and Adana, 20 to 31 for Istanbul and Bursa, and 23 to 33 for Trabzon. Tabuk airport has no direct Istanbul service, so air cargo connects in Riyadh or Jeddah. On the Gulf International Shipping Tabuk list, documents start at SAR 92, a parcel weighing up to 5 kg at SAR 138, a bedroom set at SAR 1,840, a twenty-foot container at SAR 4,600 and air freight at SAR 14 a kilo.

Look at a map and Tabuk is the big Saudi city nearest to Turkey, only around 1,600 km in a straight line from Istanbul’s airport. Even so, cargo from Tabuk sets off southwards to Jeddah before turning north by sea. That surprises most people at first, yet it is the route that delivers belongings undamaged and on a timeline you can plan around. Below we explain why, then follow every stage from your Tabuk front door to your street in Istanbul or Trabzon, with costs, durations and paperwork.

Tabuk is close to Turkey, so why does its cargo head south to Jeddah?

Because household goods and freight reach Turkey reliably by just two means today: ship and plane. Going overland through Jordan and then Syria means the load has to come off at the Syrian border and go onto another truck, so your things are handled again halfway and the arrival date becomes guesswork. We therefore do not offer that road and stick to sea and air for Turkey. By sea, the weekly direct Turkey lines depart from Jeddah Islamic Port, which serves as our loading point for Turkey containers from every Saudi city.

In practice, your Tabuk shipment spends one or two days on the road to Jeddah and then catches the vessel that reaches Mersin roughly five days out. That is two or three days more than a Jeddah consignment, but it gives you a journey with fixed milestones: the day the truck leaves, the day the ship sails and the day the box reaches the Turkish port.

Be wary of road promises

If someone promises overland freight from Tabuk to Turkey in a handful of days, ask for the names of the border posts, who carries the load inside Syria and where it is unloaded. If they dodge the question, your belongings are the ones taking the risk.

From your home in Tabuk to Jeddah Islamic Port

We reach every Tabuk neighbourhood, Al-Muruj, Al-Rayyan, Al-Sulaymaniyah and Al-Faisaliyah among them, and every governorate in the region: Tayma in the east, Duba, Al-Wajh and Umluj along the Red Sea, and Haql up in the north-west corner. With a private container you choose between two set-ups. Either the box parks at your Tabuk door, is filled, sealed and hauled to the port as it is, or your goods are trucked, closed, to our warehouse in Jeddah for loading. With shared shipping the closed truck takes your things to Jeddah to be grouped with other loads.

A thousand-kilometre drive means packing in Tabuk has to survive two ordeals in a row: the shaking of a long road, then two or three weeks of sea air. Inside the truck we tie pieces down with straps and separate them with boards so nothing rubs; wood is wrapped in blankets, then bubble wrap, then clear stretch film; and anything breakable, from glass to marble to ornaments, travels in timber crates. Each item then gets a number and a photograph, and every appliance has its manufacturer and serial number written into the inventory that Turkish customs asks for.

How long does shipping from Tabuk to Turkey take?

Add it up like this: a day or two on the road to Jeddah, three to five days for the Fasah export and the booking cut-off, the voyage, four or five working days of clearance in Turkey, and the drive to your city. The table pulls that together as an estimate that shifts a little with the vessel date and the pace of clearance there:

City in TurkeyContainer lands atPrivate boxShared box
Istanbul, Bursa, Yalova, Sapanca, İzmirAmbarlı, Gemlik or İzmir20–31 days25–38 days
Trabzon and the Black Sea coasta Marmara port, then road23–33 days28–40 days
Mersin, AdanaMersin16–23 days21–30 days
Ankara, Konya, AntalyaMersin, then road18–25 days23–32 days

Shared boxes trail private ones by five to seven days because they cannot close until full. If a job start or a lease in Turkey is already fixed, tell us before booking so we can count back from that date; we may suggest a private container, or flying only the urgent items.

Private container or shared space from Tabuk?

From Tabuk especially, the private container pays off sooner, because each single-item price carries part of the long road leg. A twenty-foot box holds close to 33 m³ and starts at SAR 4,600, while shared space starts at SAR 410 per m³; divide one by the other and the break-even sits near 11 m³. Below that, shared is cheaper; above it, private wins on both cost and speed.

A Tabuk example: a family in Al-Muruj moving a three-bedroom home with majlis and kitchen, roughly 25 m³ after wrapping. Shipped as shared cargo it would cost no less than 25 × 410 = SAR 10,250, whereas a single twenty-foot box takes all of it from SAR 4,600. For a large villa, or a car going with the furniture, the forty-foot box holds about 67 m³ and starts at SAR 7,360.

Delivery in Istanbul: from Ambarlı port to your district

Most Tabuk cargo for Istanbul is discharged at Ambarlı, the big container port on the European shore of the Sea of Marmara. Boxes reach it on lines other than the direct Mersin service or via a hub, so the trip is longer. Once cleared, a truck carries your things to the address: on the European side to Başakşehir, Beylikdüzü, Esenyurt, Fatih and Bakırköy, and on the Asian side to Üsküdar, Kadıköy, Ataşehir and Pendik.

Ambarlı or İzmit also serve Sapanca, Adapazarı and the Kocaeli area, and Gemlik handles Bursa and Yalova. Before the box lands we check the exact address, a Turkish phone number for the receiver and the building itself: will the lift take furniture, and can a truck pull up outside? Some of Istanbul’s old streets are tight enough to need a transfer to a smaller vehicle.

From Tabuk to Trabzon and the Black Sea coast

Trabzon, Uzungöl, Akçaabat and Rize come up often in conversations with Tabuk customers, and they mark the outer limit of the sea route to Turkey. Containers from Jeddah do not call at Trabzon port; they come ashore on the Marmara, and a truck then heads east from Istanbul for some 1,050 km to Trabzon. That puts the full trip from your Tabuk door at roughly 23–33 days.

The lanes up to the mountain villages around Uzungöl are narrow and twisting, so where necessary we switch to a smaller truck for the last stretch and fix the drop-off spot with you beforehand. Urgent parcels for Trabzon go by air to Istanbul and then take a roughly one-hour domestic hop.

Used furniture from Tabuk and Turkish customs

Turkey waives duty on used belongings only, and the waiver takes two forms. The first is for a Turkish citizen going home to live: after two uninterrupted years away, or five of the last ten, their furniture enters duty-free, provided it lands no earlier than two months before them and within six months of their arrival at the latest. They need a relocation certificate from the Turkish Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate General in Jeddah, a detailed list, a record of their travel in and out, and must attend clearance themselves; a banderole fee still applies to TVs.

The second form covers an Arab or other foreigner living in Turkey: their used furniture is released on showing a current residence or work permit, a tax number from the Turkish revenue office, and a one-year lease stamped by a notary or the tapu for their home. Where neither lease nor deed exists, a temporary entry against a cash deposit at a bank or a bank-issued bond is sometimes possible; otherwise taxes are paid. Anything new or still in its maker’s box pays duty and 20% VAT. As conditions can differ between files, we confirm them with Turkish customs before shipping; the details are in Turkey used household goods customs.

Car shipping from Tabuk to Turkey

We will not move a car towards Turkey until we know it meets Turkish customs rules, and those rules are tight. Permanent import is available solely to a Turk returning to settle, with a car of no more than three model years, registered in their name in their country of residence at least half a year before their last entry into Turkey, brought in within six months of return, provided five years have passed since any earlier use of the right. Customs duty alone is waived; special consumption tax (ÖTV) and VAT are still owed, and ÖTV climbs with engine size and value until it can top the car’s price. A foreign resident’s import is temporary and lapses when the residence does.

If the car qualifies, we sort the Absher export plates, fines, lien release and Fasah export entry in Tabuk, then send the car covered on an enclosed carrier to Jeddah, where it is strapped inside a locked container. Prices start at SAR 5,060, Turkish taxes are settled on arrival, and we never send cars by plane or ro-ro ship. Further reading: car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Turkey.

Air freight from Tabuk to Turkey

No direct route links Tabuk’s Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport with Istanbul, so air cargo goes either via Riyadh, which has direct Pegasus and AJet flights to Sabiha Gökçen, or via Jeddah, with about 55 weekly departures to Istanbul Airport. The kilo starts at SAR 14, and shipments reach Istanbul in around 3–5 working days, perhaps one more for the connection, and Ankara, Bursa or Trabzon in 4–6 working days.

The plane suits papers, from SAR 92, light gifts up to 3 kg, from SAR 110, prescribed medicine and anything that cannot wait. Lithium batteries are removed from devices, aircraft will not take cosmetics in quantity, and no phone should be packed, since Turkey does not accept handsets through the post or express couriers; keep it on you. Weights and rules are on air freight from Saudi Arabia to Turkey.

Cartons and parcels from Tabuk to Turkey

Parcel weights from Tabuk and their starting prices: up to 5 kg at SAR 138, 5 to 10 kg at SAR 230, 10 to 20 kg at SAR 365, and clothing up to 10 kg at SAR 184. A postal or courier parcel admitted into Turkey may weigh no more than 30 kg in total and must be for personal use; anything bigger we place in a shared container. A wider table is on cartons and parcels shipping to Turkey.

Commercial goods from Tabuk to Turkey

For traders in Tabuk and the region we ship goods of up to 50 kg from SAR 920, industrial equipment of up to 100 kg from SAR 1,840, and twenty-foot containers from SAR 4,600. Turkish customs will release goods only to an importer holding a tax number, with the sales invoice, origin certificate and packing list, after which duty is worked out by product classification and 20% VAT is added. How is the cost of shipping from Tabuk to Turkey calculated?

The calculation weighs the volume in cubic metres, or weight for air, the container type, the road to Jeddah (already inside Tabuk prices), the Turkish port of arrival and its distance from your home, packing and crating, insurance, and clearance fees in Turkey. A Trabzon household pays for a longer Turkish inland leg than an Istanbul one, while an Ankara household generally saves if its box comes in through Mersin.

The cheapest way to ship from Tabuk to Turkey

  • A few items: shared container space from SAR 410 per m³, and keep the volume as low as you can.
  • A full home: a private twenty-foot box from SAR 4,600, which beats shared space beyond about 11 m³.
  • Sell cheap, bulky furniture in Tabuk and replace it in Turkey; a thousand kilometres of road plus the sea can cost more than it is worth.
  • If there is no rush, send small parcels by sea with shared freight instead of by air.
  • Boxed new goods attract duty and 20% VAT, so leave them out.

Common mistakes when shipping from Tabuk to Turkey

  • Light wrapping meant for a local move rather than a long drive followed by a voyage.
  • Falling for offers of quick overland freight to Turkey.
  • Slipping a phone or sealed new gadgets in among the belongings.
  • Sending a returning Turk’s furniture more than two months before departure, so the exemption is lost.
  • An incomplete Istanbul or Trabzon address, with no Turkish number for the person receiving.
  • Shipping a car before checking its model year, registration and the ÖTV it will incur.
