Dabab moving in Jeddah is the answer when your load is too small to hire a dyna for and too big for the back seat of your car. In Jeddah, a “dabab” is a light pickup truck, either open-bed or with a closed box, that carries up to about one tonne; it is not a motorcycle courier, which is what the same word means on some delivery apps. Gulf International Shipping sends a dabab with its driver to move a fridge, a sofa, a bedroom set, a showroom order or shop stock, anywhere in Jeddah and on to Makkah, Taif and Madinah. A light-items run inside Jeddah starts from SAR 36, a dabab move between neighbouring districts from SAR 46, a single appliance such as a fridge or washing machine from SAR 64, and a Jeddah-to-Makkah trip from SAR 184. To book, call 0566812501 or send photos of your items on WhatsApp 0566812501.
Most people searching for a dabab in Jeddah are not moving a whole home. They have just bought a wardrobe and do not want to wait days for the showroom’s delivery slot, or they found a good second-hand sofa in an online ad and need someone to collect it from the seller, or they are a student moving a bed and a few boxes to new housing, or a shop owner restocking from a supplier’s warehouse. This page answers their questions: what a dabab really carries, what each item costs to move, when you need a dyna instead, and how to send your request so the price comes back in the first reply.

What is a dabab in Jeddah? A small truck, not a scooter
The word “dabab” has two meanings in Saudi Arabia, and that causes a lot of confusion when people order one. On delivery apps and some platforms it means a motorcycle that carries a small parcel of a few kilos. In Jeddah’s moving trade, it means the compact pickup class: Daihatsu Gran Max, Suzuki Carry, Toyota LiteAce. Saudi used-car listings even file “Dabab” as its own model name under Daihatsu. When you call Gulf International Shipping and ask for a dabab, a small truck with a cargo bed is what turns up.
Rather than vague labels like “small” or “medium”, we size loads from the published Saudi-market specification for this class: the Daihatsu Gran Max pickup, with a 1.5-litre engine and a payload of up to 1,075 kg. In practice, a dabab easily takes a large fridge, a washing machine, a three-seater sofa and a stack of boxes in one run, but it cannot move a three-bedroom flat in one go. The rule we work by: with furniture, weight is rarely the limit. Volume fills the bed first.
Open-bed or closed-box dabab?
An open-bed dabab is easier to load from the sides and back, suits long items such as a tall fridge, a dismantled wardrobe or timber boards, and its load travels under a strapped canvas cover. A closed box shields wood, leather and electronics from dust, humidity and direct sun, and suits orders with many cartons or soft furnishings. Tell us what you are moving, and Gulf International Shipping sends the type that fits your items, not just whichever one happens to be free.
How much does a dabab hold? Load guide by item and carton
The first question that sets the price is simple: does your load fit in one dabab run? The guide below is a practical estimate of what a dabab bed usually holds; we confirm the final choice with you once we see photos on WhatsApp.
From experience: if your load needs three or more dabab runs, a single dyna usually costs less and finishes sooner, because you pay for the round trip once and the crew loads everything in one go. So we may suggest a dyna even though you asked for a dabab, and a dabab to someone who asked for a dyna for just three pieces. The point is that you pay for what you actually need.
Approximate dabab moving prices in Jeddah
Gulf International Shipping prices by item and type of trip rather than by district, because what a dabab carries varies far more from job to job than the distance inside Jeddah does. We reviewed the prices published by dabab and dyna movers in Jeddah and pitched every starting price under the cheapest figure we found advertised. The first number is our starting price; the second is where the market usually tops out for larger or longer jobs.
Note: a dabab job inside Jeddah usually takes one to three hours from the driver’s arrival to the last item, depending on distance, traffic and floors. Multi-stop runs, long waiting time and full blanket-and-film wrapping are priced per job: send photos and locations on WhatsApp 0566812501 to get your quote.
What pushes the price up or down?
- Distance between the two points: a run inside Al-Hamdaniyah is not the same as Obhur Al-Shamaliyah to Al-Khumrah, which is about as long as a city trip gets.
- Floor and lift: coming down five flights of stairs needs a second helper and more time than a ground-floor pickup.
- Number of helpers: the base price covers the dabab and driver; each extra helper starts from SAR 46.
- Dismantling and assembly: a dismantled bedroom takes less space, but taking it apart and rebuilding it is extra time.
- Waiting: if the seller or showroom is slow to have the item ready, the time the dabab stands is part of the cost.
- Number of stops: every extra pickup or drop-off adds distance and time.
A typical example: a fridge and a washer from a second-floor flat with no lift in Al-Safa to a ground-floor house in Al-Marwah. A single item starts from SAR 64, two items on one run are not charged as two runs, and with one extra helper from SAR 46 you can see roughly what you will pay before you book. We send the final figure on WhatsApp before the dabab sets off, and it only changes if the load changes or a stop is added that was not mentioned.

Send a photo of each item and both locations, and we reply with the right dabab and the trip price.
IKEA and showroom deliveries to your home
Many of our Jeddah jobs start at a showroom door: a wardrobe from IKEA whose flat-pack box is longer than your car, a sofa chosen at a furniture showroom on one of the commercial streets, or a fridge from an appliance shop that cannot deliver the same day. A dabab cuts out the wait: the driver goes to the showroom’s collection point, loads the order against your receipt and brings it home at the time you choose. With Gulf International Shipping, an IKEA or furniture showroom pickup to your door starts from SAR 73.
To keep the run smooth, have three things ready before you book: a photo of the receipt or the order number so the driver can collect in your name; the number of boxes and the length of the longest one, since flat-pack furniture boxes can run past two metres; and the time the showroom needs to prepare the order, so the dabab is not left waiting. If you also need assembly, say so: some pieces travel boxed and the showroom assembles them, others we put together after delivery.
Tip when buying from a showroom
Ask the showroom to wrap a sofa or mattress in plastic before handing it to the driver, and check the piece in the showroom itself before it is loaded. A defect found at home is hard to prove was there before the move.
Bought second-hand furniture from an ad? We bring it from the seller to you
Jeddah’s second-hand furniture market is busy: families leaving the city sell their rooms, residents refresh their furniture, and students sell their housing kit when they graduate. The sticking point is always transport. The seller wants the piece gone today, and the buyer has no vehicle that can carry it. Gulf International Shipping solves that with a run from the seller’s home to yours, and can collect two pieces from two different sellers on the same run when they lie in one direction.
Before you send the dabab to the seller, agree a few simple things that save a wasted trip: who will dismantle the bed or wardrobe and when, whether there is a lift, where the dabab can park outside the building, and a mobile number the driver can reach on arrival. Ask for fresh photos of the piece from every side too, as ad photos may be old.
- Test appliances at the seller’s: run the washer on a short cycle and check the fridge cools before it is loaded.
- Measure the piece and your entrance: a large corner sofa may not pass your flat door or stairwell without being taken apart.
- Photograph it before loading: one photo at the seller’s settles any dispute about a scratch or a crack.
- Pay the seller after the check: do not transfer money before the driver or you have seen the piece.
Moving a single item: fridge, washer, sofa or TV
A single-item job is the simplest and most frequent dabab run, and with Gulf International Shipping it starts from SAR 64 for a fridge or washing machine. But “one item” does not mean it gets thrown in the back; each appliance has a loading method that keeps it safe:
- Fridge: emptied, unplugged, doors taped shut, carried upright and strapped to the wall of the bed. After delivery, leave it standing for a while before switching it on, and check the recommended time in your appliance’s manual.
- Washing machine: drained, and if you still have the drum transit bolts, fit them before the move so the drum does not swing on the road.
- TV: best moved upright in its original box; if you do not have it, it is wrapped in a thick blanket with nothing placed on top.
- Sofa: edges wrapped, set on its back or base depending on its shape, and strapped over the blanket rather than directly over the fabric.
- Split AC: removing and refitting it is technical work, and starts from SAR 230 with the move.

Multi-stop runs: how are they priced?
Not every job runs from one point to one point. You might buy a table from a showroom on Tahlia Street and chairs from a shop in the industrial area and want them delivered together to your home in Obhur, or move your things from an old flat to a storage unit and then to the new home. A dabab suits these runs because it moves easily between shops and parks where a dyna cannot.
Gulf International Shipping prices them in a clear way: we start from the base trip price and add each extra pickup or drop-off according to the extra distance it adds and the time the dabab stands there. A stop that lies on the route adds little; a stop that needs a detour to the other end of the city adds more. Because this differs from job to job, there is no fixed figure; we work it out from the locations you send.
Waiting is part of the trip
If the showroom or seller needs time to prepare the item, tell us in advance. A few minutes are not charged, but a long wait at one stop holds the dabab back from other jobs and is added to the price. Best practice: call the showroom before the dabab leaves and make sure the order is ready.

Dabab delivery for shops and online stores
For many shop owners in Jeddah the dabab is a daily work tool: a grocery buying from a wholesaler, an online store collecting customer orders from its warehouse, a restaurant moving equipment or stock between branches, a small showroom delivering a piece to a client. A closed-box dabab run for shop goods inside Jeddah costs from SAR 73 at Gulf International Shipping.
For customers who order weekly or daily we set fixed slots instead of booking each time, and it helps if you prepare a count of cartons or parcels and their rough weight before each run. If the goods are heat-sensitive, such as chocolate or cosmetics, say so: a dabab box is not refrigerated, so we schedule those runs for the early morning. For repeated loading from one place, a dyna by the hour with driver is available from SAR 73 per hour.
High floors and narrow lanes in Jeddah
In Al-Balad, Al-Ruwais and parts of older Al-Safa and Al-Baghdadiyah, the streets are too narrow for a big dyna to enter or stop without blocking traffic. This is where the dabab wins on size: it gets close to the building door, so items are not carried far on shoulders. On the other hand, many buildings in these districts have no lift and narrow stairs, so moving a fridge or wardrobe needs two experienced helpers.

Before the day, tell us the floor, whether there is a lift and how big it is. If the building lift has to be booked with the caretaker or management, book it yourself and cover its walls if asked. If a piece is bigger than the stairwell or the door, such as a wardrobe that does not come apart or a long corner sofa, it may need an external hoist for upper floors, which we arrange and price separately after seeing photos. We do not drag a heavy piece down a narrow stairwell if that puts the piece or the helper at risk.
Why we cover and strap every load: what the traffic rules say
What worries owners most is the sight of a dabab on King Abdulaziz Road with its load bouncing. Gulf International Shipping covers and straps the load on every run, and that is not only about protecting your things; it is the law. The General Directorate of Traffic treats carrying a load without covering and securing it as a violation with a fine of SAR 500 to 900, and the vehicle is held until it is corrected. Exceeding the permitted load dimensions on light transport vehicles is a separate violation, also SAR 500–900. So we never load a dabab beyond its dimensions or leave a piece sticking out of the sides, even when a customer asks us to, to save a trip.

Loading order inside the dabab bed
- Heavy and tall pieces first, against the front of the bed: the fridge upright, then the washer.
- Sofas and mattresses along the sides to brace what sits between them; heavy cartons at the bottom, light ones on top.
- A blanket between every two wooden pieces, and corner guards on table edges and glass doors.
- A ratchet strap over every row, then a tight canvas cover on an open-bed dabab.
- Fragile items and mirrors travel upright with nothing on top.
Truck restriction hours in Jeddah
Jeddah issues schedules that bar trucks during certain hours, especially in Ramadan. Those schedules refer to trucks and do not name the dabab explicitly, so we do not claim a dabab is exempt. Instead we time each run away from restricted hours and peak traffic, so the dabab never gets stopped halfway.
Jeddah districts our dabab covers
Gulf International Shipping covers all of Jeddah, from Obhur in the north to Al-Khumrah in the south, and from the Corniche in the west to the eastern districts beyond the Haramain Road. The grouping below is a working split we use to estimate distance and time, not official municipal boundaries; some districts are assigned to more than one side.
Runs within one area, such as Al-Hamdaniyah to Al-Salhiyah or Al-Salamah to Al-Rawdah, are the shortest and cheapest. A run that crosses the city from north to south covers a long distance through main-road traffic, which is why a full dabab load from north to south Jeddah starts from SAR 184. In the newer northern districts such as Al-Shira, Al-Yaqout and Al-Fanar, showroom-to-home jobs are especially common because owners are furnishing from scratch.

Dabab from Jeddah to Makkah, Taif and Madinah
A dabab is not limited to city runs. Plenty of Jeddah residents buy furniture for family in Makkah, students move their things to Taif, and traders send goods to Rabigh. Because the load is small, a dabab is more economical than a full dyna over these distances. The table shows approximate road distances and Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices:
The times are driving time only; loading and unloading come on top. We schedule the long runs to Madinah and Yanbu for early morning, so the dabab arrives before the worst of the heat and returns the same day. For farther cities, or loads that need a dyna to another city, send the details and we will price them for you.
When to book: the best times in Jeddah’s heat and humidity
Jeddah’s summer is long, running roughly from late May to mid-September, with temperatures above 40 °C on many days and high humidity near the sea. That affects both the items and the crew: leather and polished wood suffer in direct sun, electronics do not like the heat inside a closed box parked in the sun, and midday loading is slower and more tiring.
- Early morning: the best time for furniture and appliances, and the roads are lighter before office hours.
- After mid-afternoon prayer: fine for short runs within a district, with an eye on evening traffic.
- Thursday evening and holidays: heavy traffic on main roads and around malls, so book early.
- Sensitive items: wood, leather and electronics in summer need a closed box and a run that does not stand for long.
You can book at any time of day on WhatsApp, and we set the slot according to dabab availability in your area. Same-day jobs are possible on most days, and the earlier you send the request, the easier it is to get your preferred time.
How to book a dabab in Jeddah
- 1Send photos and locations
A photo of each item, location links for pickup and drop-off, and the floor and lift details, on WhatsApp 0566812501. - 2Get the vehicle and the price
We confirm an open or closed dabab, or a dyna if needed, and write the trip price and number of helpers. - 3Pick a time
Morning or afternoon, today or later, and we confirm the driver’s arrival time. - 4Prepare your items
Empty the fridge and washer, close the boxes, and mark where the dabab can park. - 5Loading and securing
We wrap the pieces, load them in order, strap and cover them before setting off. - 6Delivery and check
We unload where you want, and you check everything before the dabab leaves.
Mistakes that cost you a second trip
- Describing items without photos: “a sofa” could be a small armchair or a four-metre corner unit, and the difference can mean another dabab.
- Forgetting the floor and lift: a driver arriving alone at a fourth floor with no lift means waiting for an extra helper.
- Not measuring the door and stairs: a piece that does not fit through the door goes back on the same dabab.
- Leaving the fridge full or the washer wet: extra weight, and leaks that soak everything else.
- Sending the dabab before the showroom or seller is ready: paid waiting time for nothing.
- Insisting on one run for a load bigger than the dabab: overloading beyond the dimensions is a traffic violation and a risk to your things.
On delivery: check before the dabab leaves
Responsibility in moving starts with records. Before loading, photograph the important pieces from every side, especially appliances, glass and polished wood; the driver will also take photos on request. On arrival, do not sign off or end the job until you have gone over the pieces one by one: doors, legs, corners, screens. If you notice anything, tell the driver at once and photograph it where it is, then contact us on 0566812501 so we can review the photos with you. A note made on the spot is far clearer than a complaint the next day.
