Cartons and parcels shipping to Syria

Cartons and parcels shipping to Syria with Gulf International Shipping starts from SAR 73 for documents and small parcels up to 5 kg, SAR 138 for a suitcase, SAR 165 for 25 kg cartons and SAR 320 for large 45 kg boxes. We collect boxes from any Saudi city on a weekly consolidated road trip that crosses Jordan to the Nassib border, where they continue on a Syrian truck to your family’s door, reaching Damascus in roughly 10–15 working days from Riyadh and Jeddah and sooner from Tabuk and Madinah. Urgent parcels can fly, from SAR 230 for 10 kg.

Most people sending boxes to Syria are not moving house; they are sending something home: Eid clothes for the children, dates and coffee for their mother, prescription glasses, university papers, a wedding gift for a cousin in Homs. This page is written for them: what a carton costs by weight, how to seal it so it arrives as it left, and how to write an address so the courier is not left guessing in a street with no building numbers.

What can you send to Syria in a carton?

A personal box is accepted as long as its contents are for personal use or a gift to family, in quantities that do not look like trade. What Gulf International Shipping customers send most often:

  • Clothes and shoes: school, Eid and winter clothes, preferably used or in family quantities; twenty identical items in one size may be treated as merchandise.
  • Dates, coffee and packaged sweets: in their original sealed packs, kept away from liquids.
  • Books and university papers: heavy for their size, so spread them across small boxes instead of one that will split.
  • Small electronics: a phone, laptop or tablet with its invoice, in the original box.
  • Kitchenware and home gifts: pot sets and cups, with enough padding between pieces.
  • Personal medicines: in personal-treatment quantities with the prescription; some products need prior approval, so ask us first.
  • Children’s toys and small rugs: except remote-controlled toys such as drones and cars, which are prohibited.

How should you pack a carton for the road to Syria?

Your box will not be handled just once. It is picked up in your city, sorted at the consolidation hub, stacked in the truck, moved by hand or on a pallet to a Syrian truck in the Nassib yard, then sorted again by governorate. That is at least five stops, which is why packing matters:

  • Use a new double-wall carton, not fruit boxes or soft old appliance boxes.
  • Keep each box to 25–30 kg where possible; heavier ones are awkward to lift and more likely to be dropped.
  • Fill gaps with clothes or paper so nothing shifts inside, and put heavy items at the bottom.
  • Tape top and bottom in an H pattern with wide tape, not a single strip down the middle.
  • Wrap glass and crockery piece by piece and write “fragile” on two sides of the box.
  • Write the name, Syrian city and phone number clearly on two sides, and tuck a copy of those details inside the box.

Tip from our team

Photograph the contents before you close the box and keep the photo with your contents list. It makes any customs question at Nassib quick to answer and settles any doubt at delivery.

No time or materials to pack? Gulf International Shipping’s crew can pack the boxes at your home or our warehouse, and re-pack any weak carton before it joins the trip.

How are boxes consolidated on the weekly trip to Syria?

A single carton does not justify a truck, so Gulf International Shipping runs a consolidation service: we collect boxes from Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Taif, Madinah, Tabuk, Dammam and Qassim, bring them to the hub, log each one under sender, consignee and its own number, and stack them on the weekly truck bound for Syria.

A conveyor at the Dammam consolidation hub sorts cartons before they are loaded onto the weekly truck

The consolidated truck leaves through Al-Haditha or Halat Ammar depending on its route and crosses Jordan in transit to Jaber. At Nassib the boxes move to a Syrian truck, since Saudi trucks do not currently enter Syria, while our agent counts them and checks the numbers. After clearance they are sorted by governorate and local couriers take them to homes. The crossing is explained in detail in our Nassib border crossing guide.

How many days does a carton take to reach Syria?

A carton takes a little longer than a dedicated truck because it waits for the weekly departure and for sorting after the transfer. These are approximate working days to Damascus, counted from the day we collect the box:

Sending cityApprox. time for a carton to DamascusAir parcel
Tabuk7–12 working daysVia Riyadh or Jeddah
Madinah9–14 working days3–5 days
Riyadh and Qassim10–15 working days3–5 days
Jeddah, Makkah and Taif10–15 working days3–5 days
Dammam, Khobar and Al-Ahsa11–16 working days3–5 days

Homs and Hama need one or two extra days; two to three for Aleppo, Latakia, Tartus and Idlib, and three to four for Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah and Qamishli. The trip can slip a day or more when the crossing is crowded around Eid and holidays, so if the box is for a particular occasion, send it early.

Shipping suitcases and luggage to Syria

Plenty of travellers to Syria find their airline allowance is not enough, so they send a suitcase or two ahead by road. A locked suitcase starts at SAR 138 with Gulf International Shipping and travels on the consolidated trip to your family’s address or wherever you will be staying.

  • Lock the case with a small padlock, or shrink-wrap it so the zips cannot open.
  • Remove old airline tags so it is not misrouted.
  • Put a slip inside with your name and Syrian number, as outside labels can fall off.
  • Do not pack cash, gold or original documents that cannot be replaced.

Sending documents and official papers to Syria

Certified degree certificates, sale contracts, powers of attorney and copies of papers for Syrian government offices all go in a sealed envelope from SAR 73 by road. If the paperwork is tied to an appointment, air freight in 3–5 days is the better choice. Always keep a copy of every page, and do not send an original that would be hard to replace.

Do cartons pay customs in Syria?

Used personal items and family gifts in reasonable quantities usually pass with little or no duty. New goods in bulk, new electronics or anything resembling stock for sale attract duty set by Syria’s current tariff, at a rate that varies from item to item. That is why we ask for an honest contents list and tell you before shipping if anything in your box is likely to attract duty.

If you are a Syrian returning for permanent residence and sending your household goods, a separate exemption applies on different conditions, explained in Syria used household goods customs.

What must not go in a carton to Syria

  • Motorcycles and complete motorcycle parts, walkie-talkies, and remote-controlled drones and cars.
  • Weapons and parts, ammunition and narcotics.
  • Pressurised aerosols, gas cylinders, flammable liquids, and tobacco or alcohol above the permitted amounts.
  • Chemicals and pesticides.
  • Goods of Israeli origin.
  • Cash, gold and valuable jewellery.
  • Medicines in commercial quantities or without a prescription.

One prohibited item in one box can hold the entire trip for inspection, delaying dozens of other families’ cartons too. If you are unsure about something, send us a photo before you seal the box.

Is there air freight for urgent parcels to Syria?

Yes. When the box is medicine a patient is waiting for, or papers with a deadline, we put it on the next available plane to Damascus, or to Aleppo from Riyadh. Flights cost from SAR 23 a kilo, a 10 kg parcel from SAR 230, and reach the house in 3–5 days. Details on air freight from Saudi Arabia to Syria.

Door-to-door delivery across Syria’s governorates

Our couriers deliver to cities, towns and villages, not just city centres. Areas our customers’ boxes reach most often: Damascus districts such as Mezzeh, Midan, Rukn al-Din and Bab Touma; Jaramana, Sahnaya and Qudsaya in the countryside; Daraa, Suwayda and Quneitra in the south; Homs, Hama and Salamiyah in the centre; Aleppo, Manbij and Idlib in the north; Latakia, Tartus, Jableh and Baniyas on the coast; and Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah and Qamishli in the east.

How to write a Syrian address so the box arrives quickly

Many Syrian neighbourhoods do not use building numbers, so couriers work from a description and a phone call. Write the governorate, then the city or town, then the district, then the nearest well-known landmark such as a mosque, school or pharmacy, then the consignee’s full name and two phone numbers if possible. Let the consignee know a box is on its way and that a courier will call, so they do not ignore an unknown number.

Common mistakes when shipping cartons to Syria

  • A weak reused box: it caves in under other cartons in the truck and damages what is inside.
  • One phone number that is switched off: the courier returns with the box and delivery slips by days.
  • “Stuff” on the contents list: customs needs items and counts; a vague list means a longer inspection.
  • Liquids in a box of clothes: one broken shampoo bottle is enough to ruin everything around it.
  • Sending days before Eid: trips fill up and the crossing is busy, so the box arrives after the occasion.

When is a part load cheaper than paying per carton?

Once your boxes turn into a whole room or large appliances, paying per piece costs more than it needs to. A part load with Gulf International Shipping starts from SAR 1,380 and covers a room or a large batch of cartons, while bigger quantities by weight start from SAR 4.6 per kg. And what about car shipping?

We mention it because customers often ask: importing used cars into Syria is currently suspended, and we move only brand-new vehicles that satisfy Syria’s current import rules, on dedicated carriers, from SAR 3,220 for a sedan. Details on car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Syria.
