Shipping from Taif to Syria

Gulf International Shipping moves goods from Taif to Syria by road. As a shipping company from Taif to Syria, we gather household items and shop stock from Al-Hawiyah, Al-Shafa, Al-Hada and every other district, place them on a truck heading north to the Jordanian border, pass through Jordan under transit rules as far as Jaber, and in the Nassib yard your goods switch to a Syrian truck that takes it on to Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo and the other governorates. The road to Damascus is about 1,700–1,800 km and takes roughly 7–10 working days. With us a box costs from SAR 230, a washing machine from SAR 550, a full bedroom from SAR 1,380, a qualifying sedan from SAR 3,220, and air cargo at SAR 23 a kilo.

Most people who call us from Taif cannot fill a truck on their own: a family sending one room and a few appliances, a worker sending boxes home to Hama, a teacher whose contract has ended and who is going back to Homs. So our Taif service is built around consolidation. We collect from your home when it suits you, keep the goods wrapped, then load them with other Syria-bound consignments, and you pay only for your share of the space. This page explains how that works, what it costs, how long it takes, and what is different about shipping to Syria compared with any neighbouring country.

How does a Taif shipment leave for Syria? Two roads to the Jordanian border

There is no Saudi–Syrian land frontier; every truck has to go through Jordan. From Taif there are two roads, and we choose according to the load your goods join. The western road drops from Taif to Makkah and then runs north to Madinah and Tabuk as far as the Halat Ammar border post, facing Jordan’s Mudawwara, then on through Ma’an and Amman to Jaber. It suits loads gathered from Taif, Makkah and Jeddah together.

We use the north-eastern road when your goods join a consolidated load that includes cargo from the central region and Qassim; the truck then exits at the Haditha post near Qurayyat, opposite Omari in Jordan, and heads north via Azraq and Mafraq to Jaber. Both roads end at the same crossing, and the difference is usually a day or two depending on when the truck departs, not on distance alone.

Haditha–Omari crossing to Syria
A line of closed trucks under the Haditha canopies on a clear morning, bound for Jordan and then Syria

Either way the export declaration is registered on Fasah and the truck is booked an arrival slot at the land port before it leaves Taif, since Saudi land ports run on advance truck appointments. Inside Jordan the truck moves under transit procedures, so the goods are not opened for Jordanian clearance unless customs asks to inspect them.

Why does the truck change at Nassib?

The Syrian rule currently in force bars non-Syrian trucks from entering the country, except transit trucks escorted by customs police to a third country. Your shipment is going to Syria itself, so our truck enters the Nassib customs yard, your goods are moved onto a licensed Syrian truck, and that truck continues to the governorate. The process is called transshipment, and it is why shipping to Syria takes a little longer than the distance suggests, and why packing must be prepared for two loadings rather than one.

The crossing is open around the clock

Jaber–Nassib works day and night, but pressure rises in peak seasons and yard expansion works can delay truck entry. We tell you where the truck is at the border and fix the delivery day once transshipment and checks are complete.

How long does shipping from Taif to Syria take?

Many people want a single number, but the trip from Taif comes in stages, each with its own time. The table shows how the seven to ten days to Damascus build up, and where time can stretch.

StageApproximate timeWhat affects it
Collection and packing in Taifone dayvolume of goods and access to the house
Waiting for the shared load to fill0–5 daysno wait on a dedicated truck
Drive to the Jordanian border2–3 daysroad chosen and Fasah slot
Transit through Jordan to Jaberone to two daystransit procedures and road
Waiting and transshipment at Nassibone to three daysyard congestion and customs checks
From Nassib to the receiverhalf a day to four daysgovernorate: Damascus nearest, the north-east furthest

In figures: a dedicated truck from Taif reaches Damascus in about 7–10 working days, Homs and Hama in 8–12, Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia and Tartus in 9–13, while the north-eastern cities of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah and Qamishli need 10–14. Add 3–5 days for a shared truck.

Shared trucks from Taif: you pay only for your space

The idea is simple: one truck carries the goods of several families and traders bound for Syria, and each pays according to the volume they take up. A part load for a room or more starts from SAR 1,380, while a dedicated truck for a whole home starts from SAR 4,140. The trade-off is that a shared truck waits until it is full, so it may leave a few days later.

In Taif we arrange it like this: we agree a collection day, wrap, number and photograph at your home, then move the goods to our warehouse where they stay sealed until the truck leaves. That way you do not have to keep everything in the flat until the last day or pay an extra month’s rent. When the truck sets off we send you a loading photo and the piece list.

When should you pick a dedicated truck?

When your volume approaches half a truck, when you have a fixed travel date, or when you have valuable pieces you would rather not stack with other people’s goods. At that point the two prices converge and you gain days.

Packing mirrors, glass and appliances for a trip with two loadings

What gets damaged most on the way to Syria is not wooden furniture but delicate items: large mirrors, glass fronts on sideboards, screens, chandeliers and china sets. The reason is that the load is lifted twice, once in Taif and once at Nassib, and it may be stacked by someone who does not know what is in the box. So we handle these pieces differently from the rest of the shipment.

Preparing the Taif consignment for Syria
A gold-framed mirror wrapped in bubble wrap in a Taif flat before shipping to Syria
  • Mirrors and paintings: a layer of bubble wrap, rigid board on both faces, and a light wooden frame for large pieces.
  • Loose glass: removed from doors and tables, wrapped on its own and marked with the number of the piece it belongs to.
  • Screens: in their original box if you still have it, or in a padded case marked “fragile” in Arabic.
  • China and crystal: each piece wrapped in paper, and the box filled so nothing shifts inside.
  • Appliances: the washer drained and its drum locked, fridge doors closed with tape that leaves no marks.

Fragile items go at the back of the truck and on top of the load, and we pass their numbers to our representative at Nassib so they are carried across to the Syrian truck by hand. If you wish, we build a wooden case to the size of a valuable piece and include it in the packing cost.

Collection from Taif’s districts and governorates

We collect from central Taif and its districts, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Sharqiyah, Al-Salamah, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Aziziyah, Al-Qamariyah, Al-Naseem, Al-Hawiyah, Shihar, Al-Washha and Al-Radf, from the heights at Al-Shafa and Al-Hada, and from the outlying governorates of Turabah, Al-Khurmah, Ranyah, Al-Muwayh and Maysan. Homes in Al-Hada and Al-Shafa are often on narrow or steep mountain lanes, so we send a smaller vehicle that ferries the goods to the big truck at a suitable spot, rather than risking a long truck on a sharp bend.

Demand rises in summer, when many families spend the holiday in Taif and send things off before they travel, so book early at that time of year. If you are in Makkah or Jeddah and your belongings are in Taif, we can collect from two addresses for the same shipment.

Delivery to Homs, Hama and central Syria

A large share of Taif shipments is bound for central Syria. After Nassib the Syrian truck passes Daraa and then Damascus, and continues north on the international road to Homs, about 162 km from Damascus, and on to Hama. We deliver in both cities and in Al-Qusayr, Tal Kalakh, Al-Rastan, Talbiseh, Masyaf, Salamiyah, Mhardeh and Suqaylabiyah. Because Homs and Hama lie on the same road as Aleppo, deliveries there run regularly with northbound loads.

From Taif to Hama, Syria
The delivery truck on the Orontes road beside the water-wheels of Hama

We also reach Damascus and its countryside (Mezzeh, Al-Midan, Baramkeh, Jaramana, Sahnaya, Qudsaya, Al-Tall and Douma), Daraa, Sweida and Quneitra, Aleppo (362 km from Damascus) and Idlib, the coast at Latakia (332 km from Damascus), Tartus, Baniyas and Jableh, and the east at Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah and Qamishli. For villages away from the main roads we agree a convenient meeting point with the receiver if the truck cannot reach the door.

Air freight from Taif to Damascus

Urgent shipments have two options. The first is Taif International Airport, when direct flights to Damascus are available on the airline schedule. The second is King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, about two hours’ drive away, with daily direct flights to Damascus. We use whichever airport gives you the earliest slot, and collect from your Taif home either way.

A kilo by air costs from SAR 23, the smallest consignment we take is 10 kg (SAR 230), and your family in Damascus receives it 3–5 days later. It suits original papers, permitted medicines, glasses, a laptop or an urgent spare part, but not furniture, where volumetric weight drives up the cost. For Homs and Hama the air parcel lands in Damascus and continues by road. See also air freight from Saudi Arabia to Syria.

Are returnees’ household goods from Taif exempt from Syrian customs?

If you are a Syrian going home to settle, your used household furniture and personal effects are exempt from duty once under the latest published rules, provided you have lived abroad for at least six months, carry a list of the goods certified by the Syrian embassy or consulate, attend clearance in person, and ship from your country of residence.

Quantities are capped at what suits a family: up to three bedrooms, two sitting-room sets, a dining room, three rugs, one of each electrical appliance and a dozen kitchen sets; they cannot be sold within three years, and cars are not included. Anything beyond that pays duty. Taif residents deal with the Syrian embassy in Riyadh; we give you the list ready for certification and matching exactly what we will load, and check the current rules with you before shipping because Syria’s customs law is new. Details: Syria used household goods customs.

Car shipping from Taif to Syria: what is allowed?

Before asking the price, make sure your car can enter Syria. Imports of used cars are currently suspended; only a brand-new car from the last two model years passes under the current import decision, and it pays duty under the tariff. Expatriates may drive their own car in on a temporary basis and take it out again, under conditions we check with customs before the trip. Motorcycles are not allowed in at all. If you hear about a “new decision” admitting older cars for a lump sum, verify it with an official source; rumours like that have circulated and been denied.

A car that meets the rules is carried from Taif on a car transporter to Nassib, with export completed through Absher and Fasah. Expect SAR 3,220 upwards for a sedan, SAR 4,140 upwards for an SUV and SAR 5,520 upwards for a luxury car. Read car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Syria before you book.

Boxes, parcels and gifts from Taif to Syria

Many people in Taif send boxes of clothes, bedding and kitchenware, and gifts such as coffee, dates, honey and Taif rose water. A box or bag starts from SAR 230, a small parcel up to 5 kg from SAR 138 and documents from SAR 184. Liquids such as rose water and honey should have their caps taped, be sealed in a bag and sit in the middle of the box, since every box is stacked twice. Gold, cash and unlicensed medicines stay out of the box. Our page on cartons and parcels shipping to Syria shows how to pack each kind of parcel.

Shipping goods from Taif to Syria

For Taif shops and workshops: a cubic metre of light stock costs SAR 276 and up, food SAR 460, small machines SAR 735, heavy consignments SAR 1,380 and large machinery SAR 2,760. Trade cargo travels with a sales invoice, proof of origin and a list of what each package holds, and Syrian customs then levies the rate set for that product. We recommend stretch-wrapped pallets so the goods can be moved at Nassib by forklift in one go.

Documents required to ship from Taif to Syria

  • Personal effects and furniture: a copy of your iqama or ID, a numbered contents list we prepare with you, an authorisation for the broker on Fasah, and the receiver’s name, phone and ID in Syria.
  • Claiming the exemption: the embassy- or consulate-stamped inventory, evidence of six months or more living in the Kingdom, and you in person at clearance.
  • New car: purchase invoice, registration and completed export on Absher.
  • Car on temporary entry: passport, driving licence, registration or authorisation, and a passage booklet.
  • Goods: commercial registration, invoice, certificate of origin and packing list.

What cannot be shipped to Syria?

We do not accept on Syria shipments: motorcycles of any kind, weapons, their parts and ammunition, narcotics, two-way radios, drones and remote-controlled toys, goods of Israeli origin, gas cylinders, fuel, chemicals and flammables, or cash and gold inside boxes. On the Saudi side, export rules bar antiquities and some subsidised goods without a permit. Items such as medical devices, binoculars and medicines may need approval; tell us about them before packing.

How is the cost of shipping from Taif to Syria worked out?

The cost is built on volume, type of truck, the Syrian governorate, special packing and insurance, then clearance at Nassib according to the type of shipment. Example: a family in Al-Hawiyah sends a full bedroom, a washing machine, a TV, two large mirrors and eight boxes to Hama. The bedroom is from SAR 1,380, the washer from SAR 550, the TV from SAR 365, the two mirrors from SAR 1,100 at SAR 550 each and the eight boxes from SAR 1,840 at SAR 230, so the total starts at about SAR 5,235 priced per item. At that volume we also price a part load by space and give you the lower figure, adding 0.9% insurance if you want it.

To compare with other cities, each city’s rates are listed in shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Syria.

What is the cheapest way to ship from Taif to Syria?

The cheapest option is a shared truck with early collection, because you neither pay for a whole truck nor rush the departure date. It costs less still if you pack clothes and kitchenware in standard boxes instead of bags, leave behind heavy low-value pieces, and avoid the weeks before Eid and the end of the school year. If you are returning to live in Syria, an embassy-certified list saves duty on used furniture.

Mistakes we see on Taif shipments to Syria

  • Leaving the booking to the last week of the summer holiday, when trucks are crowded.
  • Sending mirrors and glass without a case or rigid packing, when the load will be lifted again at Nassib.
  • Shipping rose water, honey and oils with loose caps, ruining the whole box.
  • Assuming the Saudi truck reaches Homs; in fact a Syrian truck completes the journey from Nassib.
  • Buying a used car in the hope of a decision that will let it in.
  • Adding pieces to the shipment after the embassy has certified the list.
