The Nassib border crossing to Syria is the land gateway every shipment from Saudi Arabia uses to enter Syrian territory. It sits in Daraa governorate opposite Jordan’s Jaber post and operates around the clock. The Saudi truck reaches it after leaving through Al Haditha or Halat Ammar and crossing Jordan in transit; in its customs yard the load is inspected and cleared, then loaded on a Syrian truck for the last stretch. Gulf International Shipping organises every one of these stages, with goods reaching Damascus 4–7 working days after loading in Tabuk and 7–10 days from Riyadh or Jeddah; a carton up to 25 kg starts at SAR 165 and a bedroom at SAR 1,100.
Most of what worries a sender does not happen on the desert highway but at the final gate. That is where the truck stops, the doors open, the load comes off and goes onto another truck, and the queue may last hours or a day. This guide is devoted to the Nassib crossing alone: where it is, how trucks reach it from each part of Saudi Arabia, what goes on in its yard, which papers are needed, why trucks get held up, and how we prepare your shipment to cross with the least delay and the least wear.

Where is the Nassib crossing, and how does it relate to Jaber?
Nassib is a town on the Hauran plain in Daraa governorate that gives the crossing its name. It lies on the Syrian–Jordanian border about 100 km south of Damascus. On the Jordanian side of the same frontier is the Jaber border post, so the crossing is really two facing posts: the truck completes Jordanian exit formalities at Jaber, then drives a short distance into the customs yard at Nassib. That is why the two names often appear together as “Jaber–Nassib”.
It is the main land crossing for truck traffic between the two countries, with thousands of lorries a month passing both ways carrying Jordanian, Syrian, Turkish and Gulf goods. With Jordan lying between the Kingdom and Syria, every road shipment from any Saudi city to any Syrian governorate comes through here. The Syrian side is run by the General Authority for Ports and Customs, which brings the management of crossings and customs under one body.
The road from Saudi Arabia to Nassib: Al Haditha or Halat Ammar
The Saudi truck picks its exit according to the loading city. Loads from the capital region, Qassim, Ha’il and the Eastern Province drive north to the Al Haditha crossing near Qurayyat, enter Jordan at Al Omari, and follow the desert road past Azraq and Mafraq to Jaber. Loads from Tabuk, Madinah, Jeddah, Makkah and Taif usually leave through the Halat Ammar crossing north of Tabuk, enter Jordan at Al Mudawwara, and climb through Ma’an and Amman to Jaber. A consolidated western load may route via Al Haditha if it is completed in Riyadh.
The Jordan leg is a transit movement: the truck passes through Jordanian territory without being unloaded or cleared for import there, and goes through transit formalities at the entry and exit posts. That is why the customs declaration and contents list are finalised in the Kingdom, with nothing added along the way.
Is the Nassib crossing open 24 hours?
Yes. Nassib and Jaber operate around the clock every day of the week, with commercial traffic moving day and night. Working non-stop does not mean no waiting, though. At peak times, such as the weeks before Eid and the summer months when expatriates send their belongings home, hundreds of trucks line up on the Jordanian side and entry slows rather than stops. On top of that, the crossing yards are undergoing expansion and resurfacing work, and a newly equipped holding yard on the Jordanian side now takes roughly two hundred loaded trucks to keep the road queue down.
So every timeframe we give you includes a margin for the border: about a day in normal periods, two days or more in high season. We schedule our trucks to reach Jaber at quieter hours where possible and check the state of the queue with our team before the truck gets close.
The Nassib transfer, step by step
The transfer is the movement of the load from a non-Syrian truck to a Syrian truck inside the crossing’s customs yard. It applies because the Syrian instructions in force do not currently let non-Syrian trucks enter Syrian territory, except transit trucks heading for another country, which travel under customs escort from the entry crossing to the exit crossing. The only loads spared the transfer are a specific category — Jordanian-origin goods on Jordanian trucks and Syrian-origin goods on Syrian trucks — so shipments from the Kingdom go through it. Here is what actually happens:
- 1Entering the yard
The Saudi truck enters the Nassib customs yard after clearing exit at Jaber and parks in its assigned lane. - 2Filing the declaration
The broker submits the customs declaration, the contents list and the invoices, or the certified list for furniture. - 3Inspection
A customs officer checks the load against the papers and may ask for cartons to be opened or appliances examined. - 4Assessing duty
Duty on goods and new items is calculated under the tariff, and anything eligible for exemption is exempted. - 5Moving to the Syrian truck
The load comes off and is stowed on an approved Syrian truck, each piece counted on both sides. - 6Leaving the yard
The Syrian truck leaves with its freight-office receipt and heads for Daraa, Damascus and the governorates.
At Gulf International Shipping we do not leave your goods to chance at this stage. Our representative receives the load in the yard, attends the inspection, supervises the transfer in person and arranges the cargo on the Syrian truck with heavy items at the bottom and fragile ones on top. Then he sends you a photo of the loaded truck, its number and the driver’s name.
Truck and cargo papers for crossing at Nassib
Each stage of the route asks for its own documents. Most border delays come from a missing paper or an inventory that disagrees with what is on board, rather than from the queue.

We prepare the Saudi and Jordanian papers ourselves and send copies of the Nassib documents to the broker at least a day before the truck arrives, so the declaration is started before it enters the yard. That small step often saves half a day of waiting.
How long does a shipment spend at the border?
Border time is not one figure but the sum of several stops. The table shows what we expect in normal periods and what can happen in busy seasons.
These times are included in the overall door-to-door figure we quote from your home in the Kingdom to your door in Syria: Tabuk 4–7 working days, Madinah 6–9, the Riyadh–Jeddah–Makkah–Taif group 7–10 and the Eastern Province 8–11, all to Damascus.
How do you protect a shipment during the transfer?
Most of the damage people complain about on Syria shipments happens in the minutes of the transfer, not over the hundreds of kilometres of road. Furniture is carried by hand from one truck to another in an open yard, sometimes in heat or rain. So we prepare every shipment for exactly that moment:
- Sensible carton weights: no box over 30 kg, so it can be carried safely without dragging or dropping.
- Double protection for wood: blankets, then bubble film, then heavy board, with wooden edging on corners.
- Crates for glass and marble: a closed wooden crate per panel, clearly marked “fragile”.
- Drained and secured appliances: fridges and washers emptied of water, washer transit bolts fitted.
- Visible numbering: a number on two sides of every carton matching the list, so counting is quick.
- Rain cover: an outer plastic layer protects the cartons if the transfer happens on a wet day.
Beyond Nassib: the road to the Syrian governorates
After leaving the yard, the Syrian truck enters the Hauran plain, with Daraa and its towns as the first stop, then takes the international highway north to Damascus about 100 km away. From Damascus distribution branches out: north to Homs, Hama and Aleppo, west to the coast and east to Deir ez-Zor and the Jazira. The farther the destination from Damascus, the more days are added.

Cars at the Nassib crossing
Nassib is also where ineligible cars are turned back. The Syrian market is currently closed to used-car imports, and motorcycles are refused outright. A new car whose model year meets the import decision in force is accepted on payment of its duty, and an expatriate’s own car can cross on temporary entry under its conditions. Any car that qualifies rides a car transporter to the Nassib gate, sedans from SAR 3,220. Details in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Syria.
Shipping prices to Syria via the Nassib crossing
Our prices cover the whole route: collection from your home or warehouse in the Kingdom, exit formalities, the Jordan transit, the Nassib transfer and Syrian transport to the address. Within each price cell, the lower number is where our rates begin; the highest is what the same category typically reaches for bigger loads or more distant cities.
Note: a Tabuk load gets to Damascus within 4–7 working days; allow 7–10 from the central and Hijaz cities and 8–11 from the east, normal queueing and the truck change included; air takes 3–5 days.
Common items: a carton up to 25 kg from SAR 165, a fridge from SAR 460, a washing machine from SAR 410, a 20 ft container load by truck from SAR 5,520, with cover available from 0.9% of value. Nassib clearance fees differ for furniture, goods and boxes, so ask us for your figure. All tables sit in shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Syria.
Air freight: an option that skips the land border
If your shipment is small and urgent, air freight bypasses the land border entirely: no queue at Jaber and no transfer at Nassib. Nonstop services leave Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam for Damascus, plus Riyadh for Aleppo, on the published timetables. We charge from SAR 23 per kg, a 10 kg shipment from SAR 230, delivered door to door in 3–5 days. It suits documents, medicines, spare parts and gifts, not furniture.
