Shipping from Jeddah to Syria

As a shipping company from Jeddah to Syria, Gulf International Shipping collects household goods, boxes, shop stock and eligible cars from any district of Jeddah and runs them north by truck past Madinah and Tabuk to the Halat Ammar post, through Jordan in transit to Jaber, and then into the Nassib customs yard, where everything is lifted across to a Syrian truck for the last stretch to the receiver’s door. The road to Damascus is about 1,600–1,700 km and the usual transit time is roughly 7–10 working days. Our lowest charge is SAR 138, for a small parcel; a bedroom set goes from SAR 1,380, a whole home on a dedicated truck from SAR 4,140, an eligible sedan from SAR 3,220, and air freight to Damascus from SAR 23 per kg.

Syrian families in Jeddah usually ask us one thing before anything else: Jeddah is a Red Sea port, so why not put the furniture in a container to Latakia? In practice the road through Jordan is quicker and simpler for household goods, cars and parcels, while sea freight only makes sense for full commercial containers. This page walks through what happens to your shipment from the moment it is wrapped in your Jeddah flat until it is unloaded in Damascus, Homs, Aleppo or on the coast, with figures, timings and paperwork.

At a glance

  • Distance to Damascus: about 1,600–1,700 km depending on road and crossing
  • Road transit: 7–10 working days to Damascus, one or two days more for Homs and Hama, 2–3 more for Aleppo, Latakia and Tartus
  • Transshipment: Saudi-plated trucks are not allowed into Syria at present, so the carrier changes in the Nassib yard with our representative watching

Should you ship from Jeddah to Syria by sea or by road?

By road, in almost every case. A household move needs door-to-door handling, a contents list that the Syrian customs officer checks on the truck, and someone following it at every stage. A truck covers the distance from Jeddah to the Syrian border in a few days, whereas a sea container has no regular direct line today from Jeddah Islamic Port to Latakia or Tartus; it normally goes through a transshipment hub, then needs clearance at the Syrian port and inland haulage. For a bedroom set or twenty boxes, sea is slower and less predictable.

So when is sea worth it? When a trader ships a full container of one product, such as building materials, tinned food or spare parts, is not in a hurry, and is delivering to Latakia or Tartus itself. In that case Gulf International Shipping books the container on request through carriers that tranship, priced by line and sailing. Furniture, cars and family parcels go by road through Jordan, which the rest of this page explains.

The truck route from Jeddah to the Nassib crossing

Day one usually takes the driver up the Hijrah road from Jeddah to Madinah; day two climbs to Tabuk and reaches Halat Ammar, the last Saudi post on this road. The Jordanian post facing it is Mudawwara, and from there the truck runs up the Desert Highway past Ma’an and the edge of Amman to the Jaber crossing in the far north of Jordan. Crossing Jordan is a transit movement: nothing is cleared into the Jordanian market; the cargo stays sealed under transit papers from the moment it enters until it exits at Jaber.

This western route is the normal one for Jeddah loads because it is shorter than swinging east to the Haditha crossing, but it is not the only one. When your goods are part of a consolidated load that also carries cargo from Riyadh or Qassim, the truck may exit through Haditha and Omari and then head for Jaber. Either way there is one entry point into Syria: the Jaber–Nassib crossing, which carries the truck traffic between Jordan and Syria and runs around the clock.

From Jeddah via Halat Ammar to Syria
Trucks heading for the Halat Ammar canopies among the sandstone hills of Tabuk

Before the truck leaves Jeddah, the export declaration is lodged on the Fasah platform and the truck is given a pre-booked arrival slot at the land port, because Saudi border posts do not accept trucks without one. That slot fixes your real departure day, which is why we ask for your documents well before loading day rather than letting the truck wait at the border.

What happens in the Nassib yard?

This is the step most advertisers of Syria shipping never mention. The Syrian authorities currently allow non-Syrian trucks in only when they are escorted transit trucks heading to another country. Because your goods are destined for Syria itself, the Saudi truck drives into the Nassib customs compound, where workers unload it and put everything on a licensed Syrian truck. Locally this switch is known as munaqala, transshipment. After customs checks the Syrian truck continues to Daraa first, then Damascus about 100 km on, then the other governorates.

Transshipment means your belongings are loaded twice: once in Jeddah and once at Nassib. That is why our packing for Syria differs from domestic moves. Every box has to survive being lifted and stacked again, glassware needs crates, and mirrors and TVs are wrapped so the handler can see they are fragile. Having our own representative in the yard means the piece count is checked against the list before the load goes onto the Syrian truck, and heavy items are lifted the right way.

Expect occasional waits at Jaber and Nassib

The crossing works day and night, but peak seasons and yard expansion works can hold trucks back for a day or more. Jordan has recently added a new holding yard at Jaber with room for around two hundred laden trucks. We tell you as soon as the truck reaches the border, and we only give a delivery date once transshipment is done.

How long does shipping from Jeddah to Syria take?

Four pieces add up to the total: the drive from Jeddah to Halat Ammar, the transit across Jordan, the wait and transshipment at Nassib, and the road inside Syria. The first two are fairly fixed; the third is the big variable. So our answer is always a range, counted from the morning the truck pulls out of Jeddah rather than the day you first phone us.

A shared truck usually adds 3–5 days because it waits to fill up with goods from several customers in Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah before it leaves. If your travel date is close, ask us about the next departure; sometimes a nearly full truck can save you days of waiting.

Approximate shipping prices from Jeddah to Syria

We collected the prices that carriers publish for Jeddah to Syria and pitched ours lower. Read each cell as a pair: the lower one is the Gulf International Shipping starting rate, the higher one a typical ceiling once volume rises or the governorate is further north.

What does each item cost from Jeddah?

Few Jeddah customers move an entire household; most send particular pieces: a fridge for parents in Homs, a sofa and a bed for a son who has just married in Damascus, or boxes of clothes before Eid. So we publish a starting price per item, including road transport to the address in Syria.

Moving your home from Jeddah’s districts to Syria

We collect from every part of Jeddah, north and south: Obhur Al-Shamaliyah, Al-Shati, Al-Muhammadiyah, Al-Naeem, Al-Rawdah, Al-Hamra, Al-Salamah, Al-Safa, Al-Marwah, Al-Rabwah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Rehab, Al-Samer, Al-Baghdadiyah, Al-Kandarah, Al-Sharafiyah and Al-Jamiah, as well as Rabigh, Khulais and Thuwal. In older buildings with narrow stairs we take wardrobes and beds down as flat panels; in towers we book the lift with building management in advance and agree a parking spot for the truck with the caretaker so the street is not blocked.

Packing Syria cargo in Jeddah
Boxes being sealed and numbered inside a Jeddah flat before loading for Syria

Our packing is designed for a long trip with two loadings. Wooden furniture is wrapped in blankets and then heavy-duty film, corners get double cardboard, and appliances are drained of water and gas with their doors secured. Each box carries a number and a colour for its room, matching the contents list printed in Arabic. We photograph valuable items before wrapping and send the photos and list to you on WhatsApp, so you know exactly what left your home and what should arrive.

If you hand back your Jeddah flat before the truck date, we offer short-term storage for the packed goods in a Jeddah warehouse until the load is complete or you are ready to travel. On arrival, our delivery team in Syria can reassemble the beds and wardrobes we took apart, if you ask for it when booking.

Fitted kitchens in Jeddah flats

An aluminium or wooden kitchen fitted in the flat needs careful dismantling with every unit numbered, and the wall in the Syrian home should be measured first. If it will not fit the new space, moving it may cost more than it is worth. Send us photos and measurements before you decide.

Are a returning Syrian’s household goods duty-free?

It applies to a Syrian moving back home to settle, once in a lifetime, under the most recent published rules. First, they must have been resident outside Syria for no less than six months. Second, they bring an inventory of their belongings stamped by their country’s embassy or consulate where they live. Third, they attend clearance themselves, and the goods come from the country they lived in, not a third country. The belongings must be used and sized for one household: no more than three bedroom sets, a pair of lounge suites, a single dining set, three carpets, a single unit of each appliance and twelve kitchen sets, and nothing may be sold for three years. Extra quantities are charged, and a car is never part of this relief.

Residents of Jeddah normally have the list certified by the Syrian embassy in Riyadh or through its consular channels. We prepare the same list that will be used for shipping, in the same order and quantities, so that what was certified matches what is inspected at Nassib. Because Syria’s new customs law was issued recently, we confirm the rules in force with the General Authority for Ports and Customs before loading day. Full details in Syria used household goods customs.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Syria

First, what matters more than price: Syria has currently stopped imports of used cars for local use, and admits new cars only if the model is no older than two years, as the current import decision sets out, and the new tariff then charges 20% on a petrol car and 10% on one that is fully electric. Any advert promising to bring an older used car into Syria for a flat fee has no official basis; rumours of that kind have circulated and the authorities have denied them.

So what do we move? First, a new car that meets the import rules, for a dealer or a private buyer. Second, an expatriate’s own car entering Syria temporarily on a passage booklet; it leaves with its owner and cannot be sold there, and the permitted period is checked with customs before travel. Third, a car coming back from Syria to the Kingdom. Motorcycles of every kind are currently banned from entering Syria, so we do not accept them on Syria shipments.

We load a qualifying car in Jeddah onto a transporter, covered or open as you prefer, and take it to Nassib once its export is finished on Absher and Fasah. Pricing: SAR 3,220 and up for a sedan, SAR 4,140 and up for a large family SUV, SAR 5,520 and up for a luxury model. Our guide to car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Syria covers the rules in depth.

Air freight from Jeddah to Damascus

Jeddah is one of the best Saudi cities for air cargo to Syria: King Abdulaziz Airport has daily direct flynas flights to Damascus, about 2 hours 20 minutes in the air, plus Saudia services according to the airline schedule. Air shipments are normally delivered in 3–5 days door to door, because most of the time goes on booking and clearance at Damascus airport rather than the flight itself.

We charge air cargo from SAR 23 a kilo, with 10 kg (SAR 230) as the smallest consignment. Air suits original documents, permitted medicines, urgent spare parts and light gifts; it does not suit furniture, where volumetric weight pushes the cost up. Aleppo has no direct link with Jeddah, so we send via Damascus and then by road, or on the Riyadh–Aleppo flight when available. Flights from every Saudi city are listed in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Syria.

Boxes, parcels and family consignments from Jeddah

Family parcels are among the things we ship most from Jeddah: clothes, perfume, coffee, dates and Eid gifts, official papers, and items children send home to their parents. Prices begin at SAR 138 for anything up to 5 kg, SAR 230 up to 20 kg, and a box or suitcase from SAR 230. Parcels travel on our shared truck and are delivered in Damascus and the governorates on the distribution schedule. Mark each parcel with who it is for and a Syrian number that will be answered, and never pack cash, gold or unlicensed medicines. Details in cartons and parcels shipping to Syria.

Commercial freight from Jeddah to Syria

A Jeddah trader chooses between a full truckload (FTL), a truck loaded for them alone that leaves as soon as its papers are ready, and a part load (LTL), paying only for the space used. Light goods start from SAR 276 per cubic metre, light equipment from SAR 735, heavy goods from SAR 1,380 and heavy equipment from SAR 2,760. Commercial cargo needs an invoice, a certificate of origin and a packing list, and pays Syrian tariff duty according to its heading.

Food starts from SAR 460, and a refrigerated truck can be arranged for fresh dates and medicines that need a steady temperature. Because goods change trucks at Nassib, we advise traders to load on stretch-wrapped pallets so each one moves as a single block by forklift rather than box by box.

Delivery across Syria, from the coast to the north-east

After Nassib, Daraa is the first stop, then Damascus and its districts: Mezzeh, Kafr Souseh, Al-Muhajireen, Baramkeh, Al-Midan, Rukn Al-Din and Bab Touma, and its countryside in Jaramana, Sahnaya, Qudsaya, Douma, Al-Tall, Al-Nabk and Yabroud. We deliver in Sweida and Quneitra, then north to Homs, Al-Qusayr and Tal Kalakh, Hama and Salamiyah, Aleppo with districts such as Al-Shahba, Al-Furqan and Al-Hamdaniyah, and Idlib, Jisr Al-Shughur and Maarat Al-Numan.

Delivery in Latakia, Syria
The delivery truck winding through orange groves in the Latakia hills towards the receiver’s home

Many Jeddah families are heading for the Syrian coast: Latakia, Jableh and Qardaha, Tartus, Baniyas and Safita. Latakia is about 332 km from Damascus, and the mountain roads to the villages sometimes need a smaller truck for the last leg, which we arrange in advance once we know the address. The north-east, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah and Qamishli, is the longest stretch, and we set its delivery date once the shipment has cleared Nassib.

How is the cost of shipping from Jeddah to Syria calculated?

Five things set the price: volume in cubic metres, not just weight; shared or dedicated truck; the Syrian city; special packing such as wooden crates; and insurance if you choose it. Clearance at Nassib comes on top, depending on the goods. Take a household in Al-Safa that is sending a full bedroom, a large fridge, a washing machine and ten boxes to Damascus. The bedroom starts from SAR 1,380, the fridge from SAR 1,100, the washer from SAR 550 and ten boxes at SAR 230 each come to about SAR 2,300, a total from roughly SAR 5,330, which may come down if we combine everything into a single part load.

At that size we always compare per-item pricing with a part load from SAR 1,380 or a dedicated truck from SAR 4,140, and choose the cheaper one for you. City-by-city rates sit on our page of shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Syria.

What is the cheapest way to ship from Jeddah to Syria?

  • Shared truck: pay only for your goods’ space, in exchange for 3–5 extra days.
  • Lighten the load: selling bulky old pieces in Jeddah and buying replacements in Syria can work out cheaper.
  • Boxes rather than loose items: clothes and kitchenware in standard boxes cost less than shipping them loose.
  • Avoid peak days: before Eid and at the start of the summer holidays trucks and the crossing get crowded.
  • Use the exemption: moving back to Syria for good? A stamped embassy list can wipe out the duty on your used furniture.

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Syria

  • Certifying a list at the embassy and then changing what is in the boxes, so the list no longer matches the Nassib inspection.
  • Believing anyone who says “our Saudi truck delivers straight to Damascus”; the load changes to a Syrian truck at Nassib.
  • Buying a used car in Jeddah to take into Syria on the strength of a rumoured new decision.
  • Packing gold, cash or medicines in boxes.
  • Wrapping glass and mirrors in blankets only, without crates, when the load will be lifted twice.
  • Giving a Syrian phone number that nobody answers, so the Syrian truck waits at delivery.

Shipping from Syria to Jeddah

We also work in the other direction: personal effects, gifts and Syrian products shipped from Damascus, Aleppo and the governorates to Jeddah, through Nassib and Jaber, then across Jordan to Halat Ammar. Here the procedures are Saudi ones, with an import declaration, Fasah and inspection, and they vary by type of goods. Request a quote and we will confirm what can be brought in.
