Road, sea and air freight from every Saudi city

Cartons and parcels to Morocco

Cartons and parcels shipping to Morocco from any Saudi city works in two ways: by sea in a shared container that leaves Jeddah Islamic Port and crosses Suez for Tanger Med or Casablanca, arriving in somewhere between 20 and 34 days, or by air to Casablanca and Rabat, arriving in 3–7 days. With Gulf International Shipping, a parcel weighing no more than 5 kg is priced from SAR 110, a parcel up to 50 kg from SAR 230, documents from SAR 73, cartons of clothes and personal effects from SAR 138, while sending a parcel urgently by air begins at SAR 1,655.

The carton is the most common shipment between the Kingdom and Morocco: family gifts before Eid, items relatives entrust to one another, a graduate’s books, clothes sent ahead of a family’s furniture, small stock for an online shop. Because a carton is small, people assume it is simpler than furniture, yet it follows the same route and passes the same customs, and it can be held up for weeks if it is badly packed or poorly addressed. This guide explains how your carton travels, what it costs, how to prepare it and what to keep out of it.

In short

  • By sea: consolidated in our warehouse, then a container from Jeddah Islamic Port via Suez to Tanger Med or Casablanca
  • By air: nonstop to Casablanca from Riyadh and Jeddah, plus Jeddah–Rabat, per the airline timetable
  • Timing: by sea roughly 20–34 days, set by your city, plus up to 7 days for consolidation; by air 3–7 days
  • Prices: parcels of up to 5 kg from SAR 110, up to 50 kg from SAR 230, documents from SAR 73, per cubic metre from SAR 780
  • Customs: used personal belongings clear more easily; new items pay duty plus 20% VAT
  • Delivery: to the door across Morocco, from Tangier and Chefchaouen to Agadir and Oujda

How do cartons get from Saudi Arabia to Morocco?

There is no road route to Morocco, and cartons are not given a container of their own, since that would cost many times their value. What actually happens is consolidated shipping: we collect your carton from home or you drop it at a collection point, where it is weighed, measured and numbered, then moved to the consolidation warehouse to join cartons from many customers bound for Morocco. Once the container is full it goes to Jeddah Islamic Port, Gulf International Shipping completes the export formalities on the Fasah platform, and it sails through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean.

The sailing from Jeddah reaches Tanger Med in roughly ten days. There the container is unloaded, the cartons are cleared through Moroccan customs and then trucked out to the cities, or moved on to Casablanca if distribution from there is closer to the recipient. The services we use from Jeddah all route through Suez, and each sailing date is checked before your carton is assigned to a container. If your carton starts in the Eastern Province, we choose to truck it overland to Jeddah, since all our Morocco sailings leave from Jeddah.

Morocco parcels consolidated in the warehouse
Morocco-bound cartons run along the warehouse conveyor to the pallets and on into the container heading for Jeddah port

The advantage of consolidation is that you pay only for your carton’s space and weight; the one drawback is that it waits for the container to fill, which can add up to 7 days. That is why we tell every customer the next container cut-off: hand your carton in a day or two before it, and it sails in that container instead of waiting for the next round.

Prices for shipping cartons and parcels to Morocco

We compared the parcel rates Morocco shippers advertise across Saudi cities and pitched our opening price under the lowest one. These are “from” prices for consolidated sea freight, rising with weight, volume and the distance of the loading city from Jeddah port:

Parcel prices by loading city

Because every carton leaves from Jeddah port, the starting price varies with how far the carton travels to reach it. This is where the smaller items start in each city:

If you have more than 8–10 cartons, ask for pricing by the cubic metre, which often works out cheaper than paying per piece. Rates for every other item, city by city, are on our shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Morocco page.

Sea or air? How to choose for your carton

The rule is simple: sea for weight and quantity, air for urgency and value. A carton of winter clothes, books or kitchenware doesn’t need to arrive within a week, and the sea saves you a lot. A passport left behind, prescription medicine, or a phone your son needs before his exams is worth the air premium.

Air freight for parcels to Casablanca and Rabat

Casablanca is served nonstop from both Riyadh and Jeddah, Rabat from Jeddah, and Madinah by seasonal flights or a Jeddah connection, always according to the airline schedule. Flying time is around 7 hours; door to door, allow 3 to 7 days for handover at the airport, Moroccan clearance and the final delivery. From Dammam, Taif and Tabuk, air parcels route via Riyadh or Jeddah.

Our lowest urgent air parcel price is SAR 1,655, while per-kilo pricing follows whichever is greater, actual or volumetric weight, so a big light carton is charged on its size. Send us the carton’s dimensions and weight before you pack and we will tell you whether splitting or compressing it is cheaper; request a quote on 0568829975. Flights and airports are covered in our guide to air freight from Saudi Arabia to Morocco.

These figures are approximate and move with the sailing schedule and clearance times. Add up to 7 days if your carton arrives after the consolidated container closes, and about 2–4 days if the recipient is in Marrakech, Agadir, Oujda or the south. If the carton has a date that matters, such as Eid, a wedding or the start of term, count back from the latest day it can arrive and hand it in at least five weeks before that, or send it by air.

How to prepare a carton for a sea voyage

In consolidated shipping, cartons are stacked above and below yours, stay in the container for weeks, and are moved by cranes and conveyors several times. Preparing it properly saves you both damage and delay:

  • Use a new double-wall carton: used grocery boxes soften in humidity and collapse under load.
  • Don’t overload it: ideally keep each carton under 25–30 kg; lighter cartons are easier to handle and less likely to split.
  • Fill the gaps: a half-empty carton caves in under others, so pad it with clothes or paper so nothing moves inside.
  • Bag liquids separately: perfumes, oils and cleaning products in a sealed bag, or better, leave them out.
  • Seal it properly: wide tape along every edge in an H pattern, not just the centre seam.
  • Write the details twice: the recipient’s name, Moroccan address and phone number in Arabic and French on two sides, with a contents list inside.

We can pack for you

No time or no suitable boxes? We supply export cartons and pack your items at home or at our warehouse, write the contents list and number the cartons, which is especially useful for plates, glassware and devices.

What do people send to Morocco in cartons?

  • Family parcels and gifts: Eid clothes, sealed perfumes, small rugs and presents for relatives.
  • Students’ belongings: books, notes, clothes and a laptop at the end of studies in the Kingdom.
  • Workers’ belongings: clothes and tools sent ahead before returning home, or to lighten the suitcases on annual leave.
  • Documents: certificates, official papers and school records, best sent by air if urgent.
  • Kitchen and household items: used cookware and small appliances.
  • Small-shop stock: samples and products for an online store or a trader in Morocco, with a commercial invoice.

What is banned or restricted in cartons to Morocco?

A small carton is not exempt from inspection, and a single non-compliant item can hold up the carton or get it seized. The key points:

  • Strictly prohibited: weapons and ammunition, narcotics, counterfeit goods such as fake-branded bags and watches, and printed or recorded material that offends public order.
  • Drones, even toys: prohibited, so check the children’s presents.
  • Maps and schoolbooks: an atlas, map or globe that draws the Sahara outside Morocco’s borders will be seized, so check geography books and map games before packing them.
  • Medicines: for personal use with a prescription; without one they need approval from the Moroccan health authority.
  • Communication devices: radio and satellite equipment and some telecom devices need approval from Morocco’s telecoms regulator.
  • Food: only small quantities of sealed tinned food; avoid pet food, fresh produce and plants.
  • Never shipped: flammable liquids, gas cylinders, large loose batteries and chemicals.

Moroccan customs on cartons and parcels

Moroccan customs look at a carton from two angles: are the contents personal or commercial, and are they used or new? A carton of used clothes, books and household items in sensible quantities is treated as personal belongings and clears more easily. Twenty identical items still in their wrapping, or new devices with their invoices, read as merchandise and are charged duty by tariff line plus 20% VAT.

Moroccans living abroad have a travel allowance for non-commercial goods up to a ceiling set by customs, but it does not usually cover televisions, furniture or household appliances, and it is separate from the final-return exemption that applies to moving a whole household. If you are returning for good and want your cartons to travel with your furniture under that exemption, read our guide to household goods customs for returning Moroccans before sending any carton separately, because the exemption is granted once per family.

Don’t leave it at the port

Moroccan customs will hold goods in storage for a limited period, about 45 days with fees, and after that they count as abandoned. So before shipping we make sure the recipient is reachable and their number is correct, and we complete clearance well within that window.

Parcels received in Chefchaouen, Morocco
In Chefchaouen’s stepped blue lanes, cartons reach the door on a hand cart once the truck stops at the foot of the quarter

In modern districts the carton comes straight to the apartment door. In old medinas and stepped lanes, such as Chefchaouen and the old city of Fes, the truck parks as close as it can and the courier carries on by foot or with a hand cart. The courier calls the recipient beforehand to agree a time and asks for their national ID card on delivery so they can sign for it.

What is the cheapest way to send cartons to Morocco?

  • Ship them together: ten small cartons fill about one cubic metre, which starts from SAR 780, while ten parcels priced individually come to at least SAR 1,100.
  • Team up with relatives: two families sending to the same Moroccan city can combine their cartons in one shipment under a single sender.
  • Use the sea for anything not urgent: the air premium is only worth it for papers and medicines.
  • Avoid the weeks before summer and Eid: when the consolidation warehouse is crowded and waiting lists grow.
  • Don’t send what costs less there: cheap heavy goods can cost more in freight than they are worth.

Shipping shop cartons and small consignments of goods to Morocco

If you sell products to customers in Morocco or send stock to a trader there, a commercial carton needs a clear invoice showing quantity and value, and it is charged customs duty plus 20% VAT. Commercial goods up to 50 kg start from SAR 825, and larger quantities are priced by the cubic metre from SAR 780. Don’t mix stock and personal items in the same carton, as customs may treat the whole carton as merchandise.

Do you ship cars to Morocco as well?

Yes. A passenger car still short of its fifth year can go with us, strapped and covered in a locked container out of Jeddah port, as older vehicles can only be registered in Morocco in exceptional cases; prices start from SAR 4,600, while the car’s Moroccan duty and 20% VAT are worked out separately. Details are on our car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Morocco page.

Common mistakes when sending cartons to Morocco

  • An incomplete address: a district name without the recipient’s phone means calls, delays and perhaps a carton left in the warehouse.
  • A contents list reading “miscellaneous”: prompts customs to open the carton and value it.
  • One huge heavy carton: it tears or gets refused; several equal medium cartons are better.
  • New gifts in large quantities: make a personal carton look commercial, so duty is charged.
  • Expecting a one-week sea delivery: the realistic time is 3 to 5 weeks, so plan for it or send by air.
