Shipping from Jeddah to Morocco

As a shipping company from Jeddah to Morocco, Gulf International Shipping picks up your household goods, cartons, stock or car at your door anywhere in Jeddah, has it inside Jeddah Islamic Port on loading day or the day after, and puts it on a vessel heading up through Suez to Tanger Med or Casablanca; once Moroccan customs releases it, our truck drives it to the receiver. The whole sea journey from Jeddah runs to somewhere between 20 and 30 days for the north, Fes, Rabat and Casablanca, and a few days more for Marrakech, Agadir and Oujda; urgent items flown from King Abdulaziz Airport land with the receiver in 3–7 days. On our price list a parcel costs from SAR 110, shared container space from SAR 780 a cubic metre, a bedroom set from SAR 1,380, a twenty-foot box of your own from SAR 4,140, and a car that has not yet turned five from SAR 4,600.

Jeddah has one clear advantage over every other Saudi city when it comes to Morocco: the port that every Moroccan shipment leaves from is right here. A customer in Riyadh or Tabuk waits a day or two while the truck covers the road to the coast; your goods can leave your flat in the morning and be inside the port gates by evening. That is why Jeddah has the shortest transit times and the lowest starting prices in our tables. Below we follow a Jeddah shipment stage by stage, compare Tangier with Casablanca as arrival ports, show the volume at which your own container becomes cheaper than shared space, and set out what Moroccan customs asks of returning families and car owners.

Why does every Morocco shipment leave from Jeddah port?

Saudi Arabia and Morocco share no land border, and there is no regular truck route across North Africa for household moves, so shipping from Jeddah to Morocco means either sea or air. The sea is the natural choice for furniture, cars and goods because one container holds a whole home for a fraction of the cost of flying. Jeddah Islamic Port is the Kingdom’s gateway on the Red Sea; vessels leave it northbound for Suez, cross into the Mediterranean and steam west until Gibraltar, where Morocco’s largest box terminal, Tanger Med, faces Europe across the strait.

We pick a carrier whose Jeddah service goes through Suez and confirm the vessel date before each booking, so before anything is loaded you know which Moroccan port your container is heading for and roughly when it sails. Shipments from Riyadh, Dammam, Tabuk and Madinah are also trucked to Jeddah before they sail, which means a Jeddah customer skips that whole stage: no thousand-kilometre road leg, no extra day of waiting and no long inland haulage built into the price.

Be wary of “road shipping to Morocco”

Some adverts offer “land freight from Jeddah to Morocco” or “delivery in 7 days by sea”. A road route does not exist in practice, and the voyage alone takes around 10 days to Tanger Med before export formalities, customs clearance and final delivery are counted. Ask any company: which port does my container leave from, and which Moroccan port does it arrive at?

Approximate shipping prices from Jeddah to Morocco

Our Jeddah rates sit under what rival firms advertise for the same route, and since Jeddah is the port city, nothing here is dearer than from a city farther inland. Read each number as a starting point: volume, weight and the delivery city in Morocco decide the final bill.

How long does shipping from Jeddah to Morocco take?

The full journey from Jeddah to Morocco has five stages, and the longest is the voyage itself. The table shows what happens at each stage and roughly how long it takes, so you always know where your shipment is:

StageWhereApproximate time
Pickup, packing and transfer to the portyour district in Jeddah to Jeddah Islamic Port1 day
Saudi export and wait for the sailingFasah platform and the port yard3–7 days
Voyage via the Red Sea, Suez and the MediterraneanJeddah to Tanger Medabout 10 days
Onward move to Casablanca where neededfrom Tangier or on another service3–7 days
Moroccan customs clearance and deliveryMoroccan port to the receiver’s address3–7 days

Added up, that comes to between three and four and a half weeks for Tangier, Fes, Rabat and Casablanca. Why not a single number? Because sailings are weekly, not daily: if your shipment is ready a day before the booking cut-off it makes the first vessel, and if it misses it, it waits for the next. In shared freight the container also waits until other customers’ goods fill it, which can add up to a week. Moroccan clearance is quickest when the paperwork arrives complete before the container does.

Tanger Med or Casablanca: which port suits you?

Most containers from Jeddah arrive at Tanger Med on Morocco’s northern tip, because that is where services coming through the Suez Canal call. If the receiver is in Tangier, Tetouan, Larache, Al Hoceima, Fes or Meknes, it usually makes sense to clear the shipment in Tangier and truck it straight there. If you are heading for Casablanca, Mohammedia, El Jadida or Marrakech, clearance at the port of Casablanca can work out better; the box gets there either relayed from Tangier or on a different loop, whichever sails first. Our team works out the better option before you book and tells you the difference in time and cost.

Full container or shared freight from Jeddah?

The single biggest factor in your cost is how many cubic metres you ship. With shared freight (LCL) you are billed for the cubic metres your things take up in a box that other customers also use, from SAR 780 each. With a full container (FCL) nobody else’s cargo goes in: twenty-foot from SAR 4,140, forty-foot from SAR 6,440, sealed shut until Moroccan customs breaks the seal.

OptionBest forApproximate capacity
Shared LCLa bedroom, student cartons, single appliances, small consignmentsfrom 1 m³
20 ft containera two- or three-bedroom flat, or one carabout 28–33 m³
40 ft containera villa, or a family home together with a carabout 58–67 m³

A working rule from our starting prices: once your shipment goes beyond about 5–6 cubic metres, a 20 ft container is usually cheaper than shared freight. It is also faster, because it does not wait for anyone else’s goods, and safer, because nothing is unloaded or stowed next to other cargo. A single room or a student’s boxes, on the other hand, are best sent shared. We measure the volume after a survey or from your photos and give you both figures to choose from.

Moving a household from Jeddah to Morocco

We collect from every part of Jeddah: Al-Rawdah, Al-Safa, Al-Salamah, Al-Naeem, Al-Mohammadiyah, Obhur Al-Shamaliyah, Al-Shati, Al-Hamdaniyah, Al-Marwah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Bawadi and Al-Rabwah, as well as the old town and the southern districts. Many Jeddah homes are flats in multi-storey buildings, so our crew brings the right equipment to bring heavy pieces down by lift or stairs without scraping walls or banisters, and we agree the loading time with the building’s caretaker.

Packing for Morocco is not the same as a move across town. Your belongings will spend three to five weeks in a container, passing through ports, sea humidity and several cranes and trucks. So we dismantle beds and wardrobes and number every part, wrap wood in blankets and then film, crate glass and mirrors in timber, and drain and dry fridges and washing machines before closing them so that no smell or mould develops. Every piece gets photographed and numbered on a list written in Arabic or French; Moroccan customs wants exactly that list, so the work is not duplicated.

Jeddah packing and loading for Morocco
Packing and numbering start at your home in Jeddah, and each carton carries its number from the customs list

If your travel date is not fixed yet, we can store your furniture, wrapped, in a closed warehouse in Jeddah until your papers are ready and then ship it in one go. This helps anyone waiting for a change-of-residence certificate from the consulate, since Moroccan customs expects the furniture to arrive with your move. See furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Morocco and our international furniture moving service.

Is a returning Moroccan’s furniture from Jeddah duty-free?

Yes, provided the move is permanent. A Moroccan coming home to settle can bring in used household furniture, clothes, personal belongings and one appliance of each type without paying duty, up to the limit Moroccan customs currently applies, and a family can use this only once. We confirm the conditions before shipping, as they are revised from time to time. Typically you will need:

  • the original change-of-residence certificate from the Moroccan Consulate General here in Jeddah (or the embassy in Riyadh), showing whether you were employed, trading or studying;
  • a detailed inventory, dated and signed, in Arabic or French;
  • a passport copy showing your entry stamp into Morocco, plus your national ID card;
  • a signed statement that the belongings are second-hand, plus a notarised proxy if a relative will collect for you.

If everything will not fit in one shipment, a second one is allowed as long as its contents already appear on your first list and it is cleared at the same office before six months have passed since the certificate was issued. New purchases are taxed — customs duty and 20% VAT — so keep the receipts and list those items separately. And do not leave the cargo sitting at the port: after roughly 45 days in customs storage it can be declared abandoned. The full explanation is in household goods rules for Moroccans returning home.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Morocco

From Jeddah we ship cars that have not yet reached their fifth year since first registration, boxed in a closed container and starting at SAR 4,600. The cut-off is set by Morocco, not by us: older imported cars cannot be registered there, the one exception being retired Moroccans who lived abroad, who may bring a car up to ten years old on conditions. So the first thing we ask is the model year and registration date.

Inside the box the car is tied down, chocked at the wheels and dust-covered, with the tank close to empty. Before that, you complete the final export on Absher’s vehicle export service and we file the export declaration on Fasah. On arrival, Moroccan customs works out duty and the 20% VAT from the car’s price, its fiscal horsepower and its first-registration date — a sum quite separate from what you pay us. Moroccans living abroad do get some concessions, with conditions: a personal car can be driven in temporarily for a maximum of 180 days each year, and anyone aged 60-plus with over a decade abroad can claim a large duty reduction once. Every case is covered in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Morocco.

Air freight from Jeddah to Casablanca and Rabat

For urgent, light items, Gulf International Shipping offers air freight from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. Royal Air Maroc, Saudia and flynas fly direct from Jeddah to Casablanca, flynas also runs a direct service to Rabat, and the flight takes about 7 hours. Air shipments reach the receiver in 3–7 days after clearance at Mohammed V Airport or Rabat-Salé.

Air suits documents, prescribed medicines, small electronics, gifts for special occasions and a student’s things before term starts. The air rate for an urgent parcel opens at SAR 1,655; beyond that we charge per kilo on the greater of real and volumetric weight, and the figure differs between Casablanca and Rabat, so message us for yours. Batteries and flammable perfumes are restricted on aircraft, so tell us about them before packing. More in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Morocco.

Shipping cartons, parcels and family consignments from Jeddah

A carton of clothes for your parents in Oujda, a bag of books for a student in Fes, or a consignment a Jeddah resident sends to family in Casablanca: these small shipments are collected by our team and stowed in the shared container. A carton of clothes costs from SAR 138, anything up to 20 kg from SAR 110, and 20–50 kg from SAR 230. Mark the outside clearly with who is collecting in Morocco, their mobile and their town, and tuck a list of contents inside. Moroccan customs looks hard at piles of unworn clothes and shoes, so a big batch of new gifts can be classed as trade goods. Weights and prices are in cartons and parcels shipping to Morocco.

Commercial cargo from Jeddah to Morocco

For traders and companies in Jeddah, we ship goods by the cubic metre in a shared container or in a full container consigned to the Moroccan importer. A trade consignment of up to 100 kg starts at SAR 825, as does light industrial kit; heavy machinery starts at SAR 2,760 and small medical equipment at SAR 735. Paperwork means a sales invoice, a packing list, your CR and, for goods made in the Kingdom, a certificate of origin; the importer in Morocco or their customs broker handles import formalities there. We time things so the documents reach the Moroccan broker before the container.

At the gates of old Fes, cartons move from the truck onto small carts that can enter the lanes

In old medinas such as Fes, Marrakech and Tetouan the truck cannot enter the narrow lanes, so we park at the nearest gate or square and the crew carries your belongings to the house on hand carts. Tell us beforehand if the house is within the medina walls or up several flights without a lift, and we will send a bigger crew.

What goes into the price from Jeddah to Morocco?

Five things set the price: volume in cubic metres for furniture and goods, or weight for parcels and air freight; container type, shared or full; the level of packing, since timber crates for glass and antiques add a little; the Moroccan city, as Agadir or Oujda are farther than Tangier; and the season, because demand peaks before summer when many Moroccans abroad head home.

An example at starting prices: a family in Al-Safa with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and twenty cartons, about 25 cubic metres in all. Shared freight would cost more than SAR 19,000 (25 × 780), while a 20 ft container of their own starts at SAR 4,140. The gap is large, which is why we measure the volume first and then suggest the option. At the other end, a student with three cartons and a suitcase pays only a few hundred riyals in shared freight.

The cheapest ways to get your goods from Jeddah to Morocco

  • Shared sea freight for small volumes, where you are charged just for your share of the box.
  • A 20 ft container once your shipment passes 5–6 cubic metres: cheaper than shared, and quicker.
  • Leaving behind old furniture that costs more to ship than it is worth, such as worn mattresses and broken pieces.
  • Planning outside the pre-summer peak, when demand rises and bookings fill up.
  • Keeping air freight for what is urgent and light.

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Morocco

  • Trusting a promise of “7 days by sea” when the voyage alone is about 10 days to Tanger Med.
  • Sending a car past its fifth birthday on the hope that Morocco will register it; it will be stuck at the quay.
  • Leaving the change-of-residence certificate until the furniture lands, so it goes into storage and fees build up.
  • Mixing new and used items on the inventory without invoices, so everything is treated as new.
  • Leaving water in the washing machine or fridge, which turns into damp and mould over weeks at sea.
  • Forgetting the receiver’s Moroccan phone number, which holds up the truck at delivery.

Can you ship from Morocco to Jeddah?

Yes. The shipping lines that link Jeddah with Tanger Med run in both directions, bringing containers from Tangier back through the Suez Canal to Jeddah Islamic Port. Personal effects, gifts and Moroccan produce can come back to Jeddah this way, provided the goods meet Saudi import rules. Send us a list, the weight and the pickup city in Morocco for a price.
