Gulf International Shipping ships cartons and parcels to the UAE from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Makkah, Madinah, Taif, Tabuk and every other Saudi city. Boxes travel on shared trucks through Al Batha and Ghuwaifat and are delivered to the door in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman within 2 to 7 days depending on the sending city, or by air in 24 to 48 hours. A personal parcel from Riyadh starts at SAR 37, a carton at SAR 92, a small carton from Dammam or Jeddah at SAR 138, and air freight at SAR 46 per kg. How much does it cost to ship a carton to the UAE?
The price of a carton depends on where you send it from, because the distance to Al Batha ranges from about 900 km from Dammam to more than 2,200 km from Tabuk. Gulf International Shipping therefore sets separate rates for each region, built on the lowest published competitor price in that city and cut by 5–10%. Where nobody publishes prices, we use the nearest priced city: the western cities and Tabuk follow Jeddah, and Qassim and central cities follow Riyadh.
Note: cartons usually arrive by road within 2 to 7 days depending on the sending city, emirate and customs release; air parcels within 24 to 48 hours.
In each range the first figure is our “from” price and the second is the usual market ceiling, typically reached by a large or heavy box, or one heading to an emirate off the main delivery run. Rows with a single figure are items with no published upper limit, so we do not invent one. To compare these with furniture, car and goods rates, see Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
Carton prices by sending city
This table puts everything for your city on one line:
Why is Dammam fastest? It is the closest major city to Al Batha: trucks run via Al-Ahsa and on to the border, whereas western and Tabuk loads pass through Riyadh first. Per piece, per kg, or volumetric weight?
On shared road freight we price cartons in two ways: per piece when a box is a normal size and weight, which suits anyone sending a few cartons; and per kg for larger quantities, with personal effects from SAR 14 per kg. Large consolidated commercial loads have a separate per-kg rate from SAR 7.5, which applies to trade cargo rather than scattered personal boxes.
Air works differently: you pay on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. Volumetric weight is length × width × height in centimetres divided by a carrier factor, usually 5,000 or 6,000. A 50 × 40 × 30 cm carton is 60,000 cm³, so its volumetric weight is 10 to 12 kg depending on the factor, even if it actually weighs only 5 kg. That is why we advise against flying duvets and pillows.
Quick rule
Books, shoes and small heavy tools are usually charged by weight; clothes and large light toys by volume. Put heavy things in small cartons and light things in well-filled medium ones.
Sending a small parcel or documents to the UAE
For very small parcels and paperwork there are two options. Shared road from Riyadh, where a personal parcel or documents start at SAR 37 and arrive in 3 to 5 days. Or air from Dammam, where documents up to 1 kg start at SAR 138 and parcels up to 5 kg at SAR 185, arriving in 24 to 48 hours. Original certificates, contracts and official papers normally go by air, since any delay holds up the owner’s paperwork in the UAE.
Put documents in a waterproof plastic sleeve inside a rigid card envelope, and write the recipient’s name exactly as on their Emirates ID, plus their mobile number. Never send original passports or cash inside a parcel.
Air parcels to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah
When time matters more than price, parcels fly from Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah in 24 to 48 hours, from SAR 46 per kg. Air suits phones, laptops, personal medicines, small gifts and documents, not large light cartons. Concentrated perfumes, aerosols and loose batteries are not accepted on air shipments. How to prepare a carton for a trip of 1,000 km or more
A carton bound for the UAE is handled more than once: from your home to the truck, possibly within the consolidation warehouse, sometimes at the border for inspection, and again during delivery. It needs sturdier preparation than a box for a local move. At Gulf International Shipping, consolidated cartons are stretch-wrapped onto the pallet in several layers so nothing shifts on the road.

- 1Use a new double-wall carton: Second-hand grocery boxes have weak corners and collapse under the cartons stacked on top.
- 2Fill every gap: Use paper or soft clothes to pack empty space; a half-empty box dents and bursts open.
- 3Seal top and bottom: Wide tape in an H pattern on both the base and the lid.
- 4Label two sides: Recipient name, UAE mobile, emirate and area, and the box number (1 of 6, 2 of 6…).
- 5List the contents: One line per carton: women’s clothes, children’s books, kitchenware. Customs may ask for it.
- 6Keep out banned items: No concentrated perfume, flammable liquids or loose batteries in any carton.
Shipping suitcases and bags to the UAE
Many customers prefer a suitcase to a carton because it is stronger and useful after arrival. A suitcase from Riyadh or the western cities starts at SAR 138, and a clothes bag up to 20 kg from Dammam at SAR 165. We stretch-wrap suitcases so zips stay closed and clean, and suggest a small lock and a name tag on the handle. Very heavy suitcases are charged by the kilo.
Shipping dates, gifts and packaged food
Dates are the classic Saudi gift for family in the UAE, and from Dammam we ship 50 kg of chilled dates from SAR 370. Factory-packed personal quantities usually pass without complication; commercial quantities need an agricultural or health certificate and an invoice. Packaged coffee, spices and sweets travel as gifts in reasonable amounts, but we do not accept cooked or fresh perishable food on a shared truck.
Gifts in bulk
Ten cartons of the same product, or several new appliances, may be treated by UAE customs as commercial goods rather than personal effects. If they are gifts for several people, say so on the contents list and keep the invoices.
For online stores and sellers: commercial parcels to the UAE
If you sell to UAE customers from a Saudi online store, you can either consolidate orders into one shipment to a distributor or warehouse in Dubai or Sharjah, or send parcels individually to customers’ addresses. Consolidation is far cheaper: consolidated road freight for commercial parcels starts at SAR 7.5 per kg, and a pallet on a shared load from Riyadh starts at SAR 740.
Commercial parcels need a commercial invoice with the goods’ value, a packing list, a CR and a GCC certificate of origin so they are normally treated as national produce within the GCC customs union, with UAE VAT at 5% handled through the clearing mechanism. For larger volumes, see Goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
Do cartons pay customs duty in the UAE?
Cartons of used personal belongings in reasonable quantities are not usually treated as commercial goods. Under Dubai Customs policy, someone moving to live in the UAE for the first time, or an Emirati returning for good, is usually exempt on used household items, provided they show proof of residence or work and a packing list of the full contents.
New items, such as boxed appliances or large quantities of clothes with tags, usually attract 5% customs duty plus 5% VAT. Quantity, condition and the attached list decide which side of the line a shipment falls, so we review your contents list before loading. Full details in UAE customs rules for used household goods.
Prohibited and restricted items in cartons to the UAE
We will not accept these in any carton or parcel. They are the common prohibited items, not the complete official list:
- Weapons and their parts, ammunition and fireworks.
- Narcotics, unlicensed medicines and banned substances.
- Gas cylinders, lighters in quantity, fuel, paint and solvents.
- Loose lithium batteries and power banks on air shipments.
- Cash, currency and undeclared precious metals.
- Counterfeit goods and printed material contrary to public morals.
Restricted items needing a permit: drones, radio equipment, prescription medicines beyond personal use (attach the prescription), seeds, plants and agricultural produce, and dates in commercial quantities.

Documents required to ship cartons to the UAE
How to ship cartons from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
- 1Send the details: On WhatsApp 0568829975: how many cartons, rough sizes or weights, your city, and the emirate and area.
- 2Get the price: We quote per piece or per kg and suggest road or air depending on your deadline.
- 3Door collection: We collect from your home or office, or you drop off at the consolidation point.
- 4Consolidation and wrapping: Cartons are weighed, numbered and wrapped onto the pallet with the rest of the load.
- 5Border: Data is filed on Fasah before Al Batha and entry is completed at Ghuwaifat.
- 6Delivery: We call the recipient in the UAE and deliver to the door.
Carton transit times by city and emirate
Times run from collection to delivery on shared road freight. The northern emirates and east coast add about a day, as trucks call at Abu Dhabi and Dubai first:

Many residential buildings in Sharjah and Ajman have no separate service lift, so we agree a delivery time with the recipient rather than leaving boxes at the door. Towers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi may ask for a simple access permit when many cartons arrive at once.
The cheapest way to ship cartons to the UAE
- Shared road always beats air for cartons that are not urgent.
- Fewer, fuller boxes: four full medium cartons cost less than six half-empty ones.
- Per kg for big quantities: above ten cartons, ask for a per-kg price instead of per piece.
- Air only for small, heavy items: documents and small devices, not bulky clothes.
- Add cartons to a furniture move if you are relocating a home; they ride as part of the load for less than shipping alone.
Common mistakes when shipping cartons to the UAE
- Using old, weak boxes that collapse under the load.
- Writing the recipient’s Saudi number instead of their UAE number.
- Packing perfume, aerosols or loose batteries in an air carton.
- Declaring large quantities of new goods as personal effects.
- Not numbering cartons, so the recipient cannot check they all arrived.
- Sending fresh or cooked food on a shipment that takes days.
