Furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE with Gulf International Shipping is a complete service that starts with dismantling the furniture in your home and ends with reassembling it in your new one — in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or any other emirate — using closed trucks that cross at Al-Batha and then Ghuwaifat. Furniture from Riyadh usually arrives in 3 to 5 days, from Dammam in 2 to 4 working days, and from Jeddah and the western region in 4 to 6 days. At Gulf International Shipping a bedroom starts from SAR 1,100, a studio from SAR 1,390, an apartment’s furniture from SAR 4,150, a full household from SAR 7,400 and a villa from SAR 8,300.
We wrote this guide for anyone getting ready to move home from the Kingdom to the UAE: what the service includes, how each type of furniture is prepared, how to write the packing list UAE customs will ask for, when used furniture is exempt from duty, and how delivery works in towers and villas.

What does furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE include?
Moving furniture between two countries is more than a truck ride. A piece that leaves your room in Riyadh or Jeddah will be loaded, travel hundreds of kilometres across the desert, pass customs inspection at two border posts, then be unloaded and carried up in a tower lift or into a villa. That’s why the service at Gulf International Shipping is made up of connected stages, handled by one team from start to finish:
- Survey: by photos on WhatsApp or a home visit, to estimate the volume, the number of pieces and the truck type
- Dismantling: beds, wardrobes, large tables and removable kitchen units, with screws kept in numbered bags
- Packing: moving blankets, stretch film, heavy-duty cardboard and corner protectors, plus wooden crates for glass and ornaments
- Inventory: every piece and carton numbered and recorded on the packing list with photos
- Road freight: in a closed truck reserved for household goods, never mixed with heavy commercial cargo
- Clearance: data filed on Fasah and documents presented at Al-Batha and Ghuwaifat
- Delivery and assembly: pieces placed in their rooms, beds and wardrobes reassembled, packing materials removed
Approximate prices for furniture shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE
The cost of a move depends on the number of rooms, the size of the pieces and the city where loading starts. The figures below are Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices, set below what other companies publish on this road; the second number in each cell is the usual upper end.
Note: furniture covers the road in 2–4 working days from the Eastern Province, 3–5 days from Riyadh and 4–6 days from Jeddah, Makkah, Taif and Madinah, give or take a day for the emirate and the pace of clearance; belongings sent by air land within 24–48 hours.
Furniture and related service prices
Special items such as a piano, large chandeliers, marble or valuable antiques are priced after we see them, because they need crates built to size; send photos and measurements on WhatsApp and request a quote. To compare cities, see shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
How long does furniture shipping to the UAE take?
The times in the table cover the road, from loading day to delivery day — but the move itself starts earlier. We advise customers to start planning about three weeks before they travel, and to load at least two days before handing over the old home.
A suggested moving timeline
- Three weeks before: send photos of the furniture or ask for a survey, and book the loading date
- Two weeks before: decide what you’ll take and what you’ll sell or donate, and ask your UAE landlord for the lease
- One week before: prepare a copy of your residence visa, Emirates ID or employment contract, and start packing books and clothes
- Two days before: empty and dry the fridge, disconnect the washing machine, and book the AC removal
- Loading day: our team dismantles, packs and numbers the furniture, and you sign the packing list
- Arrival day: we deliver and assemble, and you check the pieces against the list
Preparing furniture for shipping: dismantling and packing by type
The road to the UAE is long, and in summer the heat inside a truck body runs high. So we don’t stop at a single layer of film — we choose the packing method according to the material.

Bedrooms and wardrobes
We take the bed apart, remove the wardrobe drawers and wrap its doors, and put mirrors in heavy cardboard or a wooden crate. Screws and hinges go into a bag marked with the piece’s number and taped to it, so nothing goes missing at assembly.
Sofas and majlis seating
Sofas and Arabic floor seating are wrapped first in a thick blanket and only then in film, because film on its own traps moisture and can mark fabric or leather in the heat. Cushions and bolsters are gathered into large clean bags.
Glass, ornaments and chandeliers
Glass tables, vases, fine tableware and chandeliers go into padded wooden crates, each piece wrapped individually. These are the items most affected by vibration on a long road trip.
Air conditioners and large appliances
Removing a split AC needs a technician to pump the refrigerant back into the outdoor unit before disconnecting the pipes; otherwise the gas is lost and the unit can be damaged. The fridge is emptied and left open for a day to dry, the washing machine is drained and its drum secured, and the TV travels in its original box if you have it, or in a reinforced carton.
Carpets and kitchens
Carpets are rolled, never folded, and wrapped in film to keep them clean. Wall-mounted kitchen units are not usually removed unless they will be refitted in the new home at the same dimensions — something we agree with you during the survey.
The packing list: the document that decides how fast your furniture clears
A packing list is a table naming every piece and every carton in the shipment. UAE customs require one covering the full contents, and the officer at Ghuwaifat relies on it when checking the truck. A good list shortens the inspection; a vague one drags it out.

At Gulf International Shipping we build the list while packing, not afterwards. Each carton carries a number, and each number has a line describing the contents in detail and their condition — used or new — with a photo. A good line reads: “Carton 14: used kitchenware, plates and pots”. A poor one reads: “Carton 14: stuff”. If there is a new appliance in its box, list it explicitly, because new items are treated differently.
Is used furniture exempt from customs in the UAE?
Dubai Customs grants this exemption to two kinds of people: Emirati citizens coming home for good after years abroad, and expatriates settling in the UAE for the first time. The shipment must contain things that have actually been used, in the volume of an ordinary home rather than a stockroom, in the name of whoever holds the exemption, and with a packing list that leaves nothing out.
What proves your residence?
For newcomers: a residence visa or Emirates ID, an employment contract or a lease. For returning nationals: proof of their previous residence outside the country.
New appliances and new items are not covered and pay customs duty — the general rate is 5% of the value, plus 5% VAT. We advise against relying on promises of a “full exemption for everyone” that some pages publish, or on claims that the exemption applies to GCC citizens only; the official rule is the one set out above. Details and special cases are in our guide to UAE used household goods customs.
Documents required to ship furniture to the UAE
- A copy of the owner’s national ID, Saudi iqama or passport
- A packing list of the full contents, signed by the shipper
- Evidence that you’ll be living or working in the UAE — for example your Emirates ID, a stamped visa, a job offer contract or a signed tenancy
- The full delivery address in the UAE and a UAE or Saudi mobile number
- An electronic authorization for the carrier on the Fasah platform
- Invoices for any new appliances in the shipment
What can’t be shipped with furniture to the UAE?
Customers sometimes put things in their cartons without realising they are prohibited or restricted, and the whole truck ends up held at the border. These are the items we most often ask people to take out before packing:
- Gas cylinders and filled camping stoves
- Paints, solvents and flammable cleaning products
- Perfumes and aerosols in large quantities
- Loose lithium batteries and large numbers of power banks
- Prescription medicines without a prescription, plants, seeds and soil
- Drones without a permit
- Weapons of any kind and ammunition, alcohol, and cash
Reminder
Gold, jewellery, cash and original documents travel with their owner, never inside furniture cartons.
Delivery and assembly in the UAE
After Ghuwaifat the truck heads straight for the address. Before arrival we call to confirm the time; the team then unloads, places each piece in the room marked on it, reassembles beds, wardrobes and tables, and clears away the packing materials.

Deliveries to residential towers
Most towers in Dubai — Dubai Marina and Business Bay, for example — and in Abu Dhabi, such as Al Reem Island, ask residents to arrange the move-in with building management in advance and book the service lift for a set time. Get that approval at least 48 hours ahead and share the slot with us, so the crew can unload the moment they arrive.
Deliveries to villas and gated communities
Gated communities usually require the truck to be registered at the gate. Villas are easier to unload, but large pieces sometimes have to be carried up to the first floor by the stairs, which we plan for during the survey.
We deliver furniture in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah and Khor Fakkan. The northern emirates and the east coast normally need an extra day after Dubai.
Book a survey before your move to the UAE
Send photos of the rooms or a list of pieces and the emirate you’re moving to, and we’ll send the price, the schedule and the documents you need.
A dedicated truck for your furniture, or a shared load?
The question that drives the price more than any other is whether your furniture needs a whole truck to itself or just part of a consolidated one. Gulf International Shipping’s rule of thumb: an apartment of two bedrooms or more, a full household or a villa needs a dedicated truck, while a single room, a studio, or a few pieces with some cartons can travel in a shared load.
If you have only a few pieces but need a fixed arrival date, you can book a smaller truck for yourself instead of a large trailer. Tell us when you get the keys to your UAE home and we’ll suggest the option that balances price and timing.
Shipping furniture from your Saudi city
We collect from every city in the Kingdom, but each has its own character. Riyadh has plenty of apartments in the northern districts and large villas, and the truck reaches the border via the Haradh road. Jeddah and Makkah homes often have heavy furniture and large majlis sets, and the truck crosses the full width of the Kingdom before the border, so packing gets extra attention. From Dammam, Khobar and Al-Ahsa the trip is shorter because Al-Batha is relatively close. Each city has its own guide: furniture moving from Riyadh to the UAE, furniture moving from Jeddah to the UAE, shipping from Dammam to the UAE, shipping from Makkah to the UAE and shipping from Madinah to the UAE.
Inspection on arrival and furniture insurance
When unloading in the UAE, you check the pieces against the packing list number by number and compare their condition with the photos we took before packing. Those photos aren’t a formality — they are the reference that settles any question about a scratch or a break. If you want extra protection for valuable pieces, the shipment can be insured on the value you declare, with the insurance cost added to the quote at booking. We particularly recommend insurance for luxury furniture, antiques and expensive electronics.
Shipping your car with your furniture
It’s common for a family to send the car within days of the furniture. The car doesn’t go in the furniture truck but on a car carrier: at Gulf International Shipping it starts from SAR 1,100 for a sedan on a multi-car carrier, SAR 1,390 for an SUV and SAR 2,300 for a luxury car on an enclosed flatbed. The car is not part of the used household goods exemption — it pays 5% duty and 5% VAT in the UAE — and it needs export plates and an export certificate from the traffic department. Details are on car shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
Air freight for luggage and urgent belongings
Furniture travels by truck, but some things you’ll need on your first day in the UAE: work clothes, laptops, school papers and the children’s things. These can go ahead of you by plane from the Kingdom’s main airports to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah and be there in a day or two (24–48 hours), with Gulf International Shipping’s air rate starting from SAR 46 per kg.

Air freight is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so we suggest flying small, heavy items and leaving large, light ones for the truck. Read more about air freight from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
Storage before shipping or after arrival
Sometimes you have to hand over your home in the Kingdom before your UAE home is ready, or you arrive in Dubai and live in a hotel for weeks before getting the keys. In that case we keep the furniture packed in our warehouse until shipping or delivery day. Storage is priced on volume and duration; mention it when booking and request a quote.

How to reduce the cost of shipping furniture to the UAE
- Weigh the item’s value against its freight cost: some large old pieces cost more to ship than buying a replacement in the UAE
- Use a shared load if you’re moving one or two rooms and aren’t in a hurry
- Pack books and clothes yourself in matching cartons, and leave the pieces that need expertise to the team
- Book early and avoid month-end and the post-holiday return season
- Don’t ship new appliances unnecessarily: the duty on them can make buying in the UAE the better deal
A worked example
A family is moving a medium villa from Dammam to Abu Dhabi, along with an SUV. At Gulf International Shipping, villa furniture starts from SAR 8,300, professional packing from SAR 920 if ordered in full, clearance and documents from SAR 460, and the SUV from SAR 1,390. The total starts from about SAR 11,070, with the final price set after the survey.
Common mistakes when moving furniture to the UAE
- Loading on the same day you hand over the old home: the slightest delay means returning the keys with the furniture still inside
- Not requesting building permission in Dubai: the truck waits outside the tower while the clock runs
- Mixing new and used: an undeclared new appliance can hold up the whole shipment for checks
- Leaving jewellery and important papers in cartons: these always travel by hand
- Removing the AC without a technician: the refrigerant is lost and the unit is damaged
- Wrapping sofas directly in film: heat leaves marks on fabric and leather
