Gulf International Shipping is a shipping company from Tabuk to Oman that loads furniture, cars, cartons and goods in Tabuk and its governorates and hands them over in Muscat, Nizwa, Ibri, Sohar and Salalah after an overland run through the Empty Quarter post, the single direct road entry into the Sultanate of Oman. Tabuk is our farthest pickup point from Oman: the road to Muscat runs about 2,650–2,800 km and transit takes roughly 6–8 days. From Tabuk, Gulf International Shipping prices start at SAR 46 for a small carton, SAR 92 for a small parcel, SAR 640 for a sofa, SAR 1,380 for a bedroom, SAR 2,020 for a sedan and SAR 41 per kg for air freight.
A load leaving Tabuk crosses Saudi Arabia from its north-west corner to its south-east before it even reaches the Omani border. On a journey that long, speed is not the first measure; planning is. When does the truck leave, where is the load consolidated, and how is it secured so that not one piece shifts over thousands of kilometres? This page explains that first, then the prices built on the Tabuk route itself, then cars, customs and delivery across the Omani governorates.

How long does shipping from Tabuk to Oman take?
Six to eight days is a combined figure, and knowing what sits inside it helps you plan. The table splits the time across the stages of a typical groupage shipment; every figure is approximate because the road, the border and clearance change from week to week.
The stage you can shorten most is the wait in Riyadh. If your belongings fill a small truck, a dedicated truck leaves Tabuk and drives straight on to Oman without a consolidation stop, saving a day or more. If your load is small, book a few days before the departure so it catches the nearest truck.
The shipping route from Tabuk to Oman

Tabuk trucks usually run south-east via Hail or Qassim to reach Riyadh, continue to Al Kharj and Haradh, and from there to the junction near the Batha border post where the Empty Quarter road begins. From that junction it is 564 km inside Saudi Arabia to the Empty Quarter crossing: about 319 km to the Shaybah field, then about 246 km to the border, with lay-bys for trucks about every 25 km along the way. Beyond the crossing it is 161 km inside Oman to Ibri in Al Dhahirah governorate.
Why does a Tabuk truck not go through the UAE? Because the direct Empty Quarter road avoids crossing a third country and its formalities. The UAE route (from Batha to Ghuwaifat and on to one of the UAE’s crossings into Oman) remains an option in only two cases: shipments to Musandam, an exclave reachable overland only across the UAE, or a temporary stoppage at the direct post. In both cases we tell you the time and price before loading.
About the crossing itself
Administratively, the Empty Quarter post belongs to the Eastern Province, and it faces an Omani crossing in Al Dhahirah governorate near Ibri, written in some sources as Ramlat Khaylah. It handles trucks around the clock, and before arriving we reserve a Fasah slot, a ZATCA requirement at every land port. More on our Empty Quarter border crossing to Oman page.
Approximate shipping prices from Tabuk to Oman
Unlike Jeddah, Taif and Madinah, the Tabuk–Oman route has rates published by other shipping companies, so Gulf International Shipping built its Tabuk prices directly on them and set its starting price below. Where those companies publish nothing for Tabuk, such as cars, large cartons and per-tonne freight, we used the nearest route with published prices.
Note: road transit from Tabuk to Muscat is about 6–8 days and longer to Salalah and Duqm, depending on the groupage departure, congestion at the Empty Quarter crossing and Bayan clearance; air freight via Riyadh or Jeddah airport usually arrives in roughly 3–4 days door to door.
Item prices from Tabuk
These prices cover delivery in Muscat and the governorates near the border road. Salalah, Duqm and Musandam are much farther; the road from Muscat to Salalah by itself runs about 1,047 km, so we quote them from the volume, weight and delivery address — message the list to 0568829975.
What will your Tabuk–Oman shipment cost?
Send your Tabuk-area district or governorate, the Omani delivery town and a few photos, and we will give you a price and the next departure.
Where do we collect in Tabuk and its governorates?
In Tabuk city we collect from every district, including Al Rayyan, Al Muruj, Al Faisaliyah North and South, Al Sulaimaniyah, Al Masif, Al Akhdar, Al Wurud, Al Rabwah, Al Nahdah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Olaya, Al Qadisiyah, Al Safa and Al Rawdah. Beyond the city we reach the region’s governorates: Tayma to the east, Haql, Al Bad’ and Sharma on the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea, and Duba, Al Wajh and Umluj further south along the coast.
Loads from the governorates are first gathered in Tabuk city, where the Oman line starts. One important point for coastal residents in Duba, Al Wajh and Umluj: furniture coming out of humid coastal homes must dry out fully before wrapping, or the plastic will hold that moisture for the whole long journey. We hold off the final wrap until we are sure, even if it adds a few hours on loading day.
Loading furniture for a journey of more than 2,600 km

A long road means hours of continuous vibration, few bends but sudden ones, and braking that can come at any moment. Furniture that arrives intact after 300 km may not after 2,700 km if it is not secured properly. This is what we do for Tabuk loads in particular:
- Large wardrobes: taken down to panels wherever possible, because a tall assembled wardrobe sways and strains its joints.
- Straps: we divide the truck box into rows and strap each row separately, so one row cannot fall onto another if it moves.
- Weight: heaviest items on the floor near the cab, light cartons on top, and nothing heavy above glass.
- Gaps: filled with blankets or empty cartons, because empty space is what lets pieces slide.
- Stamped timber: crates for ornaments are heat-treated, since Omani rules normally call for treating wooden packing over 6 mm thick.
- Inventory and photos: every carton numbered and the list in English, because Omani customs inspects personal shipments.
Tabuk winters are cold, and a load may be packed on a morning close to freezing before travelling south into warm days. So we never wrap electronics while they are cold; we let them reach room temperature first. The full home-moving process is on our furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Car shipping from Tabuk to Oman
A car on a 2,700 km trip calls for different thinking than on a short haul. An open carrier is fine for economy cars, but it exposes the car to Empty Quarter dust and sand for a long distance, so we advise owners of luxury cars or delicate paintwork to choose an enclosed carrier. Before choosing, check Oman’s conditions:
- Age: a used private car must be under 7 years old to be accepted by Omani customs.
- Export certificate: Oman will not register a car arriving from another GCC state without an export certificate from that state; in Saudi Arabia that means export plates and the export procedure on Absher, then an export declaration on Fasah.
- Specification: GCC spec with left-hand drive, and no serious accident, fire or flood history.
- Charges: 5% customs duty and 5% VAT on the value plus duty, then an Omani insurance policy before ROP registration.
- Before loading: fines paid, valid inspection, a bank letter if financed, a quarter tank of fuel and nothing inside the car.
Special cases such as electric and financed cars are explained on our car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Air freight from Tabuk to Muscat
Tabuk’s Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport has no direct service to Muscat; flights connect via Riyadh or Jeddah. So we move the air shipment from Tabuk to one of those two airports: Riyadh has direct flights to Muscat of about 2 hours 15 minutes, and Jeddah of about 3 hours 15 minutes. Air rates at Gulf International Shipping begin at SAR 41 per kg, and door to door usually takes roughly 3–4 days from Tabuk.
Is air worth it from Tabuk? For documents, medicines and small urgent items, yes. For anything heavier than 20 kg, road wins easily: by road a 30 kg carton is from SAR 138, while flying it would cost around SAR 1,230. Details on our air freight from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Delivery in Nizwa and Ad Dakhiliyah, then Muscat and the other governorates

The road from the border passes Ibri first, then heads east towards Bahla and Nizwa before reaching Muscat. That makes Al Dhahirah and Ad Dakhiliyah the first distribution points, and many of our Tabuk customers receive their goods in Nizwa before the truck continues to the capital. Nizwa, Bahla and Izki have traditional houses in narrow lanes, so we arrange delivery by a smaller vehicle when the street cannot take the truck.
Customs duty and VAT in Oman
What you pay in Oman comes down to two questions: is the item new or used, and where was it made? Anything new and made outside the GCC is charged 5% duty first, and 5% VAT is then calculated on value, freight and duty combined. For example, new goods worth SAR 3,000 including freight pay SAR 150 in duty and SAR 157.50 in VAT on SAR 3,150, a total of SAR 307.50. A Saudi product carrying a GCC origin certificate is duty-free.
The exemption for used furniture covers newcomers settling in Oman for the first time and Omanis coming home from abroad. Conditions: personal belongings, quantities that are clearly not commercial, dispatched from the former country of residence, and an ID card, passport or residence visa. No car is covered by the exemption, and books and films may be reviewed by the Ministry of Information. The full explanation is on our Oman used household goods customs page, and we handle the formalities through our customs clearance service.
Documents required to ship from Tabuk to Oman
What can’t you ship from Tabuk to Oman?
Omani customs bans narcotics, explosives, all weapons (decorative pieces too), tools concealing a blade, toy guns resembling real ones, military or military-style clothing, rifle and night-vision optics, stun guns, ivory and fakes. We also do not carry drones, e-cigarettes, walkie-talkies or alcohol in household shipments.
Farm produce is not household goods
Tabuk is a farming region, and some customers want to send fresh vegetables or fruit along with their furniture. These are perishable foods that cannot travel in a household shipment, and commercial quantities of farm produce need special arrangements through goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Oman.

How is the cost of shipping from Tabuk to Oman calculated?
Volume or weight, shared versus private truck, packing level, stairs and lifts, the Omani delivery town and insurance all shape the price. On the Tabuk route there is one more: for a medium-sized load, groupage can come close to the price of a small dedicated truck, and then the dedicated truck wins because it saves the wait in Riyadh.
Example for a family in Al Muruj moving to Nizwa: a bedroom from SAR 1,380, two sofas from SAR 640 each, a wardrobe from SAR 735, SAR 550 for a fridge, SAR 460 for a washer and two carpets from SAR 460 each. Starting prices total about SAR 5,325, above the SAR 4,140 starting price of a small dedicated truck, so here we would suggest the dedicated truck after checking the volume.
The cheapest way to ship from Tabuk to Oman
- For small loads: groupage, booked a few days before the departure.
- For a whole home: compare groupage with a dedicated truck; the truck may be cheaper.
- Dismantling wardrobes and beds reduces volume and lowers the price.
- An economy car on a multi-car carrier starts from SAR 2,020.
Mistakes we see on Tabuk shipments
- Expecting three days, as some adverts promise, when the distance alone is over 2,600 km.
- Wrapping furniture from coastal homes in Duba and Al Wajh while it is damp.
- Shipping a large wardrobe fully assembled.
- Shipping a car without export plates, or one that is 7 years old or more.
- Adding farm vegetables and fruit to the furniture.
