Gulf International Shipping is a shipping company from Jeddah to Oman that moves household furniture, cars, cartons and trade goods from any Jeddah district to Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah, via the Rub al Khali (Empty Quarter) border post, which is the sole direct road link from the Kingdom into the Sultanate of Oman. The Jeddah–Muscat run is roughly 2,250–2,400 km; trucks typically need 5–7 working days to Muscat and 6–8 days to Salalah, while air freight from King Abdulaziz Airport arrives within 48–72 hours door to door. Gulf International Shipping charges from SAR 46 for a small carton, SAR 138 for a carton of up to 30 kg, SAR 1,380 for a complete bedroom, SAR 2,020 for a sedan, and SAR 41 per kg by air.
Jeddah sits on the Red Sea and Muscat on the Arabian Sea, with the full width of the Arabian Peninsula in between. So before asking about price, Jeddah customers usually ask two things: is road the only option, and how many days will my things spend on the highway? This page answers both, then covers what is specific to Jeddah: coastal humidity and what it means for packing, the northern and southern districts and how trucks reach them, the container option from Jeddah port to Salalah, and what Omani customs expects from a family relocating to Muscat.

What is the best way to ship from Jeddah to Oman: road, air or sea?
Jeddah is one of the few Saudi cities with three realistic options. Road is the backbone for furniture, cars and household goods, because the load goes from your door to the receiver’s door with no unloading and reloading at ports. Air suits light and urgent items. Sea has a narrow use: commercial containers between Jeddah Islamic Port and Salalah’s port for traders with a large consignment and an importer in Dhofar.
Our rule of thumb at Gulf International Shipping is simple: above roughly 70–80 kg, road is far cheaper; for documents, a phone or spare parts needed tomorrow, fly it. In between, we ask when you yourself will land in Oman. Many families fly out and want their belongings a few days after arrival, and booked early, a shared road truck does that comfortably.
Approximate shipping prices from Jeddah to Oman
We found no shipping company publishing Jeddah–Oman rates, so Gulf International Shipping prices are built on the nearest city with published rates, Makkah, with our starting price set below it, and capped so that no item from Jeddah costs more than the same item from Tabuk, which is farther away. In each cell, the first figure is our starting price and the second is where a shipment usually ends up when it grows or needs wooden crating.
Note: road transit from Jeddah to Muscat is usually 5–7 working days and to Salalah 6–8 days, depending on congestion at the Empty Quarter crossing, the Fasah appointment and clearance on Oman’s Bayan system; air freight takes 48–72 hours door to door.
Prices for single items, appliances and cars from Jeddah
Most Jeddah bookings are not whole homes but specific pieces: a fridge for a son working in Sohar, an air conditioner for a new flat in Seeb, or boxes of clothes for a family whose father went ahead. These are starting prices per item on the shared truck:
Salalah, Duqm and Haima lie much farther from the border than Muscat; Muscat to Salalah alone is about 1,047 km by road. Prices to southern Oman and to Musandam are therefore higher than to Muscat, and we work them out from volume, weight and address. Send your list on WhatsApp 0568829975 and we will reply with your price.

The truck route from Jeddah to Muscat: stages and distances
A truck leaving Jeddah does not head south towards Yemen, nor does it pass through the UAE. Its usual line is east to Riyadh, then south via Al Kharj to Haradh, then on to the Batha–Haradh junction where the Empty Quarter road begins. That junction sits roughly 25 km short of the Batha post, and from there the highway runs through the sand all the way to the Omani frontier. The table lists the stages in the order the driver covers them; the figures are the official ones for each road section, while the first leg depends on where we collect.

The Empty Quarter crossing falls administratively under the Eastern Province. Saudipedia, the official Saudi encyclopaedia, describes it as the sole land border post linking the Kingdom with Oman, with a cargo yard sized for roughly 966 trucks daily, inbound and outbound. On the Omani side it faces a crossing whose name is spelled several ways in sources, including Ramlat Khaylah, in Al Dhahirah governorate near Ibri. What matters for your shipment is that commercial traffic runs around the clock, and waiting time depends on congestion, not on the hour.
The older route through the UAE still exists, but it is not our normal line: it runs via Batha, then Ghuwaifat, then a UAE–Oman crossing such as Khatmat Malaha or Al Wajajah, and adds transit formalities for a third country. We use it in two cases: deliveries to Musandam (Khasab, Bukha, Dibba), which is cut off from the rest of Oman by UAE territory, or when the direct post is disrupted for any reason. Either way, we tell you before loading, with the difference in time and cost.
How long does shipping from Jeddah to Oman take?
Five to seven working days means from loading day in Jeddah to delivery day in Muscat, and assumes groupage, which leaves on fixed weekly departures. A truck reserved for you alone does not wait to fill up, so it usually arrives about a day sooner. What stretches transit is rarely the road itself but three things: a missing document in the clearance file, a peak at the border, or an address far off the distribution route.
Notice that Al Dhahirah and Ad Dakhiliyah are closer to the border than the capital, because the road comes down to Ibri first and only then to Nizwa or Muscat. A Nizwa delivery can therefore arrive before a Seeb delivery that left Jeddah on the same truck.
Moving household furniture from Jeddah districts to Muscat
We collect from every part of Jeddah. In the north: Obhur Al Shamaliyah and Al Janubiyah, Al Naeem, Al Shati, Al Zahra, Al Mohammadiyah, Al Rawdah, Al Safa, Al Salamah, Al Basateen and Al Marjan. In the centre and south: Al Aziziyah, Al Baghdadiyah, Al Sharafiyah, Bani Malik, Al Kandarah, Al Ruwais, Quwaizah, Al Harazat, Al Ajawid, Um Hablain, Briman and Al Samer. Outside the city we reach Dhahban, Thuwal, Rabigh, Al Kamil and Khulais and add their loads to the Jeddah line.
The difference between districts shows on loading day. Corniche and Al Shati towers need the service lift booked and building management approval; some older blocks in Al Baghdadiyah and Al Sharafiyah have no lift and narrow stairs; and southern streets jam at rush hour. So before loading day we ask about the floor, street width and where the truck can stand, and if the street cannot take a large truck we send a small vehicle to shuttle your things to the nearest suitable point.
Why Jeddah belongings need different packing
Goods leaving Jeddah travel from humid coastal air into the dry heat of the Empty Quarter, and then into the humidity of Al Batinah or the mist of Salalah in the khareef season. Wrapping wood straight in plastic while it still holds Jeddah’s moisture traps vapour inside, and stains or a musty smell appear when it is opened in Muscat. So we put a breathable layer of paper or cloth on wooden surfaces first, then blankets, then plastic on the outside, and keep mattresses and sofas in covers that do not stick to the fabric.
- Appliances: fridges and washing machines are drained at least a day before, with the washer drum secured by its transit bolts where available.
- Kitchens and wardrobes: doors and drawers come off, every piece is numbered and screws go into bags labelled with the item.
- Glass and ornaments: boxes with internal dividers; valuable pieces get a heat-treated wooden crate.
- Wooden crates: Oman usually requires wood packaging thicker than 6 mm to be heat-treated or fumigated and stamped, so we use stamped timber from the start.
- Inventory: written in English with quantities, and photos taken before boxes are sealed, because personal shipments are inspected by Omani customs.
If you are moving a whole home, there is more on packing and reassembly on our furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Oman

Before talking carriers and prices, check two conditions Oman places on a used private car. The first is age: Omani customs accepts private cars under 7 years old, although many websites still say 10 years, which is wrong. The second is the export certificate: Oman no longer accepts the old clearance paper for cars registered in GCC states, and wants an export certificate from the authority of the country where the car is registered. In Saudi Arabia that means getting export plates and completing the “export a vehicle outside the Kingdom” service on Absher.
- In Jeddah: valid registration (istimara), valid periodic inspection, fines paid, export plates, a Fasah export declaration, and the bank’s release letter for a financed car.
- In Oman: 5% customs duty plus 5% VAT on the value including duty, GCC specification and left-hand drive, no serious accident, fire or flood history, Omani insurance, then registration with the Royal Oman Police.
- Loading day: a quarter tank of fuel, nothing personal inside the car, and photos from every side before it goes on the carrier.
An electric car travels with its battery at roughly 30–50% and on a carrier deck with no car above it. Special cases, such as financed cars or cars driven temporarily in Oman, are covered on our car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Air freight from Jeddah to Muscat
King Abdulaziz International Airport and Muscat International Airport are linked by direct flights of about 3 hours 15 minutes over roughly 1,976 km, operated by Oman Air and SalamAir. We collect the air shipment from your door in Jeddah and hand it to the receiver in Muscat, normally within 48–72 hours, including space booking on the flight and clearance at Muscat airport.
- Price: Our air rate starts at SAR 41 per kg, billed on the greater of actual and volumetric weight.
- Good by air: documents, passports going to their owners, personal medicines with a prescription, urgent spare parts, small electronics.
- Not for air: furniture, heavy cartons, loose lithium batteries, and flammable liquids such as alcohol-based perfumes.
- Salalah: air freight there is possible too; we confirm the available flight and price at booking.
Worked example: an 8 kg parcel costs about 8 × 41 = SAR 328 by air, while by road it fits in a carton up to 30 kg from SAR 138. The difference buys you roughly four days. More on weights and airports on our air freight from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Can you ship by sea from Jeddah to Salalah?

Yes, but for commercial goods in containers, not household furniture. From Jeddah Islamic Port there is a Red Sea container service calling at the Port of Salalah, which can suit a trader sending a full container to Dhofar. We arrange the booking on request and give you a price and date based on the line’s schedule. Furniture, cars and cartons go by road through the Empty Quarter instead: sea freight means unloading at the port, then clearance, then inland haulage to the door, and each step adds time and cost that a household shipment does not need.
If you are shipping to Salalah by road, allow for the khareef season around late summer: mist and drizzle slow the mountain roads, so we add an extra plastic cover to cartons at unloading and schedule deliveries in daylight.
Customs duty and VAT in Oman on Jeddah shipments
Imports into Oman attract 5% VAT, worked out on the goods’ value plus freight, insurance and duty. Duty is a flat 5% on most items made outside the GCC, while Saudi-made goods are duty-free if a GCC certificate of origin goes with them, although commercial imports still bear VAT.
Used furniture is a different case. Oman exempts personal effects and used household goods belonging to Omani citizens returning from abroad and to expatriates settling in Oman for the first time. Such goods have to be personal rather than commercial, must come from the country where the owner lived, and the owner must show an ID card, passport or residence visa. The exemption does not cover cars, shipments are inspected, and books and films may be referred to the Ministry of Information before release.
New appliances in their boxes are not “used furniture”
If you buy a new fridge or TV in Jeddah to take with you, Omani customs may charge it as new goods (5% duty plus 5% VAT) unless a certificate proves GCC origin. Keep the invoice and tell us before loading so we list it clearly.
Read the full exemption rules on our Oman used household goods customs page. Our customs clearance service takes care of the Fasah declaration on the Saudi side and clearance through a registered agent on Oman’s Bayan system.

How is the cost of shipping from Jeddah to Oman worked out?
The final price depends on things you can largely steer: how many cubic metres or kilos you send, whether you share a truck or book one, how much packing is needed, stairs and lifts at both ends, the Omani town, insurance on the declared value, and the season. A common mistake is comparing two quotes without knowing whether each includes dismantling, reassembly and clearance.
A rough example for a family in Al Safa moving to Seeb: a master bedroom from SAR 1,380, a fridge from SAR 550, a washer from SAR 460, two air conditioners from SAR 640 each and 10 cartons of clothes from SAR 595. That adds up to about SAR 4,265 in starting prices, and at that size we compare groupage with a small dedicated truck from SAR 4,140, which may well be the better and faster choice.
The cheapest way to ship from Jeddah to Oman
- Choose road groupage and book a few days before the weekly departure.
- Cut volume: sell cheap, heavy furniture and ship what is hard to replace.
- Pack small things into cartons up to 30 kg rather than many separate parcels.
- Unless the car is high-end, put it on a shared car carrier.
- Avoid the end-of-school-year peak when family moves crowd the line.
Mistakes Jeddah customers make
- Shipping a car that is 7 years old or more before checking it will be accepted in Oman.
- Writing “household items” on the inventory without detail, which drags out inspection.
- Hiding new appliances among used furniture.
- Believing offers of 48-hour road delivery from Jeddah to Muscat; the distance alone exceeds 2,200 km.
- Sending belongings before the receiver has an Omani residence, which blocks the exemption.
