Gulf International Shipping is a shipping company from Taif to Oman that collects furniture, cars, cartons and goods from Taif’s districts, the mountain villages of Al Hada and Al Shafa and the surrounding governorates, and delivers them by road to Muscat, Seeb, Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah through the Empty Quarter border crossing. A truck from Taif covers about 2,100–2,250 km to Muscat and delivers in roughly 5–7 working days, with Salalah taking 6–8 days. Prices at Gulf International Shipping begin at SAR 46 per small carton, then SAR 92 for a parcel of up to 5 kg, SAR 1,380 for a full bedroom, SAR 2,020 for a sedan and SAR 41 for each kilo flown.
Taif has an advantage few people notice: the city sits on the plateau east of the Sarawat mountains, and its highway to Riyadh bypasses both Jeddah and Makkah. That makes it the western city closest to Oman by road, and its loads head east from the very first kilometre. It also has its own challenges: hillside districts, mountain villages reached by winding roads, and a wide gap between mountain cool and Empty Quarter heat. This page is built around those details, then follows the shipment across the border and into Muscat.

- Road freight: 5 to 7 working days to Muscat, Seeb and Bawshar; 6 to 8 days to Salalah and Duqm

Where do we collect in Taif and its governorates?
We cover all of Taif, including Al Hawiyah, Shihar, Al Faisaliyah, Al Sharqiyah, Al Qumariyah, Al Rayyan, Al Salamah, Al Naseem, Al Washha, Al Khalidiyah, Al Aziziyah, Qurwa, Al Mathnah, Al Jal and Al Sadad. In the mountains west of the city we reach Al Hada, Al Shafa and the villages around them, and to the east and south the governorates of the region such as Al Khurmah, Ranyah, Turabah, Maysan, Adham, Al Muwayh, Zalim and Al Sail Al Kabir. Loads from distant governorates are consolidated in Taif before joining the Oman-bound truck.
Mountain homes in Al Hada and Al Shafa are the hardest pickups in the region. The roads up wind through tight hairpins, some inner streets cannot take a large removal truck, and in summer they fill with holidaymakers. So we go up with a small or medium van, load it after packing inside the house, and bring it down to a point in the city where the big truck waits. That short extra transfer prevents three problems: a truck stuck on a bend, furniture carried a long way by hand, and a lost day.
Ask about loading dates before the summer season
Taif is a summer resort, and in the summer months family moves multiply and mountain roads fill with visitors. If your move to Oman is tied to a job contract with a fixed start date, book loading early and choose the first morning hours.
Approximate shipping prices from Taif to Oman
Shipping companies do not publish rates for Taif–Oman, and the nearest city with published rates is Makkah, about 90 km away. Gulf International Shipping therefore uses Makkah’s published prices as the base, sets its starting price below them, then checks each item against its published price from Tabuk and takes the lower one where Tabuk is cheaper, because Taif is hundreds of kilometres closer to Oman than Tabuk.
Note: road shipments from Taif usually reach Muscat in 5–7 working days and Salalah in 6–8 days, depending on the Fasah slot, traffic at the Empty Quarter crossing and clearance time on Bayan; air shipments arrive within 48–72 hours door to door.
Starting prices room by room
Here item prices are grouped by where they sit in the house, because that is how most customers write their list: one room at a time.
These prices are for delivery in and around Muscat. Salalah, Duqm or Musandam are priced separately because the road beyond the border is longer; Salalah lies some 1,047 km beyond Muscat by road. Photograph your things and send them on WhatsApp 0568829975 and we will send your price.

How long does shipping from Taif to Oman take?
The journey has three legs, each with its own effect on timing. The first runs east from Taif to Riyadh or to Al-Ahsa on the highway, then south to Haradh where the Empty Quarter road begins. The second is the desert road itself: 564 km from the Batha–Haradh junction to the border, then the crossing formalities. The third is inside Oman: 161 km to Ibri and roughly another 244 km on to Muscat, or south via Adam and Haima for Salalah deliveries.

Whether it goes via Riyadh or Al-Ahsa depends on consolidation: if your load joins a groupage truck leaving Riyadh, it passes through Riyadh; if it is a full Taif truck or joins a load from the Eastern Province, it may run via Al-Ahsa. Either way, the routes meet at Haradh.
The table assumes groupage. A truck booked for you alone is about a day quicker, since it leaves the moment it is loaded. What usually adds time happens off the road: an incomplete inventory, a late Fasah slot, or the peak family-moving seasons.
Packing Taif belongings for mountain cool and desert heat

A load might be packed on a chilly morning in Al Hada and then spend two days crossing a desert that tops forty degrees in summer. That swing affects three kinds of belongings more than others: solid wood, which expands and contracts; leather, which dries and cracks; and appliances, where moisture condenses if they are wrapped cold and then heat up. So we work to clear rules:
- Appliances are allowed to reach room temperature before wrapping, never wrapped straight from an air-conditioned room or fridge.
- Leather sofas get a blanket first and plastic second, so the plastic does not stick to the leather in the heat.
- Wooden edges and corners get cardboard protectors, because wood scratches more easily when hot.
- Heat-sensitive items such as candles, personal medicines and perfumes go in a separate carton in the middle of the load, away from the walls of the box.
- The heaviest items sit at the bottom near the cab end, and every row is strapped, because the road is long and straight and the vibration never stops.
The wooden crates we build for ornaments and glass use heat-treated, stamped timber, since Oman usually requires treatment for wood packaging thicker than 6 mm.
The Empty Quarter crossing: what happens to a Taif load at the border?
On the Saudi side, ZATCA rules oblige the carrier to reserve, through Fasah, a time to arrive at the land port, and to turn up close to it. So the truck does not head south from Riyadh or Al-Ahsa until the declaration is ready and the slot is booked. After exit formalities it moves to the facing Omani crossing in Al Dhahirah governorate, where the shipment is cleared on the Bayan system by a registered clearing agent.
Personal effects and furniture are inspected on the Omani side, so we arrange cartons so that anything likely to be opened is easy to reach, and we match their numbers to the inventory. Saudipedia notes that the crossing’s cargo yard was built for some 966 truck movements a day, and commercial traffic runs around the clock; actual waiting time still varies from week to week with demand. The full picture is on our Empty Quarter border crossing to Oman page.
Car shipping from Taif to Oman
A car needs its paperwork in order before loading more than any other shipment, because one missing item stops it at the border. This is the sequence we follow with Taif customers:
- 1Check the car’s age
Oman accepts a used private car under 7 years old, with GCC specification and left-hand drive. - 2Clear fines and renew inspection
Registration and periodic inspection valid, no outstanding fines on the plate. - 3Request export on Absher
Get export plates: Oman requires a car from a GCC state to carry an export certificate from where it is registered. - 4Release any finance
A financed car needs a bank letter permitting export. - 5Loading in Taif
We photograph the car, check it has a quarter tank and strap its wheels on the carrier. - 6Duty and registration in Oman
5% customs duty and 5% VAT are paid, after which the car is insured locally and registered with the Royal Oman Police.
A car with a history of serious accident, fire or flood damage is normally not accepted in Oman, so do not ship it before checking. Cars are covered in depth on our car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Air freight from Taif to Muscat
Taif International Airport is linked to Muscat by direct flights according to the seasonal airline schedule. If the schedule does not suit your shipment, we send it via King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, which also has direct flights to Muscat of about 3 hours 15 minutes. Either way the rate starts at SAR 41 per kg with Gulf International Shipping, and door-to-door time is 48–72 hours.
- When to fly: official papers, medicine, an electronic device its owner needs on arrival, or a gift with a deadline.
- When it is not worth it: anything over 20–30 kg; a 30 kg carton starts from SAR 138 by road but costs about SAR 1,230 by air.
- Volumetric weight: a large, light parcel is billed on the space it takes up, not on the scale, so pack the contents into a smaller box.
Weights and airports are explained on our air freight from Saudi Arabia to Oman page.
Delivering in Muscat: from Seeb to Qurayyat

Most Taif shipments are bound for Muscat governorate and its six wilayats: Muscat, Muttrah, Bawshar, Seeb, Al Amerat and Qurayyat. A truck coming from Ibri enters the capital from the west, so Al Mabelah, Al Mawaleh and Al Khoudh in Seeb come first, then Al Ghubrah, Al Athaibah, Al Khuwair and Qurum, and finally Ruwi, Muttrah and Wadi Al Kabir, with Al Amerat and Qurayyat to the south-east.
Newer residential buildings in Al Mouj, Qurum and Al Khuwair often require the service lift to be booked and security approval, and some gated compounds set delivery hours. Send us the building name and any rules it has and we will arrange the slot before the truck arrives. In villas we reassemble beds and wardrobes and refit air conditioners if you ask for it at booking.
Can Taif products be shipped to Oman?
Many Taif customers ask about rose water, rose oil, honey and fruit. The answer depends on the product and the quantity:
- Rose water and rose oil: personal quantities travel by road in sealed original bottles inside a padded carton. Alcohol-based perfumes do not fly.
- Honey: sealed jars in personal quantities are normally accepted; commercial quantities need an invoice and may need approval from the competent Omani authority.
- Pomegranates, grapes and figs: fresh, perishable fruit is not shipped with furniture and household goods.
- Commercial quantities of any product: treated as goods, invoiced, with a GCC origin certificate, and handled through goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Oman.
Duty and VAT on your Taif shipment
The rule in Oman: 5% customs duty on goods of non-GCC origin, then 5% VAT calculated on the value after adding freight and duty. So if you ship new imported appliances worth SAR 2,000 including freight, duty is SAR 100, VAT is SAR 105 on SAR 2,100, and the total is SAR 205. No duty applies to Saudi-made products that carry a GCC certificate of origin.
Returning Omanis and expatriates taking up residence in Oman for the first time can bring used furniture free of tax, as long as it is their own, not for sale, shipped from where they lived, and backed by an ID card, passport or residence visa. Cars are outside this exemption. See Oman used household goods customs for the detail; our customs clearance service covers both Fasah and Bayan.
Documents needed to ship from Taif to Oman
- Furniture and household goods: the sender’s ID or iqama copy plus a numbered English inventory and, from the receiver, a passport with residence visa or an Omani resident card.
- Car: registration, export plates, export declaration, a bank letter for a financed car, then the receiver’s card and Omani insurance.
- Goods: the invoice, a packing list, a GCC origin certificate, a copy of the CR, and the Omani importer’s details.
- Cartons and parcels: an ID copy, a short description of contents, and the receiver’s name, number and address.
Prohibited items when shipping to Oman
The main items Omani customs bans are narcotics, explosives, weapons of every kind, even decorative swords and daggers, toy guns that look like real pistols, military or military-style clothing, weapon scopes and night-vision scopes, stun devices, ivory and counterfeit goods. We also exclude drones, e-cigarettes, walkie-talkies, alcoholic drinks and perishable food from household shipments. Not sure about something? Photograph it and send it to us before loading.

How is the cost of shipping from Taif to Oman calculated?
Cost varies with volume or weight, groupage or dedicated truck, level of packing, floor and lift access in Taif and Muscat, the need for a small van to mountain villages, the Omani governorate, and insurance.
Example for an employee moving from Al Washha to Al Khoudh in Seeb: a bedroom from SAR 1,380, a dining table from SAR 550, a TV from SAR 365, an air conditioner from SAR 640, 10 cartons of clothes from SAR 595 and two small cartons from SAR 46 each. That starts from about SAR 3,622 as groupage, with clearance added according to the shipment.
The cheapest way to ship from Taif to Oman
- Book space on a groupage truck rather than a whole truck if you have less than two rooms.
- Pack clothes and kitchenware into cartons up to 30 kg, from SAR 138 each.
- Leave behind cheap furniture that would cost more to ship than to buy again in Muscat.
- Pick a date outside the summer peak and the end of the school year.
Where Taif shipments go wrong
- Ordering a big truck to a mountain home in Al Hada without asking about the road.
- Wrapping appliances while cold, so moisture condenses inside them in the heat.
- Packing rose water or perfume in a carton with clothes without sealing it off.
- Declaring new appliances as used.
- Trusting offers that promise road delivery to Muscat within two days.
