Gulf International Shipping moves furniture, cars and cartons from Taif to Qatar by truck via Riyadh and Al-Ahsa, then through the Salwa and Abu Samra border posts, delivering to Doha, Lusail, Al Wakrah and Al Khor in roughly 3 to 5 working days from door to door. Urgent consignments fly from Jeddah airport to Hamad International in 24 to 48 hours. With Gulf International Shipping furniture by volume starts from SAR 555 per cubic metre, a household appliance from SAR 230, a carton from SAR 120, bedrooms on a shared truck from SAR 2,030 and a sedan from SAR 2,030.
Most people who call us from Taif fall into one of three groups: a family whose breadwinner has taken a job in Qatar, an employee joining relatives who are already there, or a small business sending stock to customers in Doha. Each asks something different. Families want to know about the customs exemption and when to send the furniture, employees ask about their car, and traders ask about tonnes and trucks. This page answers all three, starting with the point most people overlook: timing.

Moving from Taif for a job in Qatar? Plan around the six-month window
Qatari customs exempts used furniture and household appliances belonging to non-Qataris who arrive to work for the first time, on one key condition: the goods must arrive within six months of the date you entered Qatar. Many Taif families hold off shipping the house until the breadwinner has settled in Doha and found a home, only to discover the window is nearly closed. So we suggest talking to us from the day your employment contract arrives, not the day you find a flat.
Bear in mind that the exemption covers used items only, in quantities that match personal use; new appliances and tools pay duty, and a car is never part of the exemption. You also undertake not to sell or dispose of the goods for a year after arrival, or duties and fines become payable. Qatari citizens returning home have a separate exemption for their used belongings and furniture under the regulations. The full details are in Qatar customs rules for used household goods.
Keep new and used apart
If you bought a new washing machine or TV in Taif before leaving, list it separately as new. Hiding it among the used furniture can hold up the whole shipment at inspection.
Approximate prices for shipping from Taif to Qatar
Taif prices follow the western-region rate card we use in Jeddah, because the trucks set out from the west along the same road. Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices are:
Note: allow 3 to 5 working days by road from Taif, depending on the destination in Qatar and customs release, or 24 to 48 hours by air through Jeddah.
Other items Taif customers often ask about: a large house or villa on a 13.6 m trailer from SAR 11,500, a consolidated load of personal belongings from SAR 740, suitcases from SAR 138, parcels of 20 kg from SAR 148, commercial goods from SAR 370 per tonne and customs clearance from SAR 138. To compare other cities, open shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.
Why does an apartment start from SAR 6,000 when a full truck starts from SAR 2,300? The first figure covers the crew who dismantle and pack, the packing materials, the loading and the reassembly in Qatar. The second is simply the fare for hauling a load that is already prepared. A family moving a whole home usually needs the first; a shop owner sending packed stock only needs the second.
The truck’s route from Taif to Doha and how long it takes
The truck comes down off the Taif plateau onto the highway heading east to Riyadh, a run of roughly 780 km, then continues from Riyadh to Khurais and on to Hofuf in the Al-Ahsa oasis before reaching the Salwa border post in Al-Udaid governorate. After exit formalities it crosses to Qatar’s Abu Samra post, which is about 90 km from Doha. The total distance from Taif to Doha is about 1,400 km, depending on where we collect.
Taif has one advantage over Jeddah and Makkah: it is a little closer to Riyadh, and its trucks do not have to fight coastal city traffic. A small shipment joins a shared truck in Taif or Riyadh, while a whole house goes on a dedicated truck that runs from Taif to Qatar without being unloaded.

Note: figures are approximate; the full trip from Taif usually takes 3 to 5 working days.
Salwa and Abu Samra are the only way into Qatar by road; Qatar-bound shipments never use Al-Batha, which serves the UAE. To see what happens to the truck at the border step by step, read our Salwa and Abu Samra crossing guide.
Packing furniture from Taif homes: antique wood, majlis seating and rugs
Taif homes hold furniture you rarely see in modern flats: old wooden sideboards and chests, salvaged doors and mashrabiya panels, floor-level majlis seating with its back cushions, and heavy hand-knotted rugs. These pieces cannot be packed like a flat-pack bedroom. We wrap antique wood in soft cloth first and then a padded cover, protect the corners with rigid cardboard guards, and for anything fragile we build a dedicated wooden crate that is fixed inside the truck.
Majlis mattresses are folded, tied and put in fabric bags to keep the dust out, with the cushions bagged and numbered separately. Hand-made rugs are rolled around a tube, never folded, because folding cracks the fibres under heat and pressure. In Doha we lay the majlis out exactly as it was, using the photos we took before taking it apart.

Appliances, air conditioners and bedrooms
Bedrooms and wardrobes are dismantled and their screws collected in bags labelled with the name of each piece. A technician disconnects window and split air conditioners, pumping the refrigerant back into the outdoor unit first, and fridge and washing-machine doors are secured. Screens, mirrors and glass go into wooden crates. For the full story of moving a whole house, see furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.
Collection from Taif districts and nearby governorates
We reach every part of Taif, including Al Shuhada, Al Faisaliyah, Al Sharafiyah, Al Qamariyah, Nakhb, Al Wishha, Al Rudaf, Al Salamah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Hawiyah and Shihar, as well as the summer resorts of Al Hada and Al Shafa. Some streets in the older districts are narrow and steep, so we first send a small dyna to ferry the furniture to the large truck waiting on a main road, and we arrange this the day before so no time is lost.
We also collect from the governorates around Taif, such as Turabah, Al Khurmah, Ranyah, Maysan, Al Muwayh and Zalim, timing the pickup so the goods reach our Taif consolidation point and catch the next truck to Qatar. Taif fills with summer visitors and moving requests pile up in that season, so book early if you are moving during the holidays.
Shipping a car from Taif to Qatar
Gulf International Shipping carries cars from Taif to Qatar on open or enclosed hydraulic carriers. Open-carrier rates: sedan from SAR 2,030, SUV from SAR 2,590, sports or electric car from SAR 3,230. Enclosed-carrier rates for the same three: from SAR 3,880, SAR 4,600 and SAR 5,540. The road from the plateau to Riyadh is long and hot, and an enclosed carrier keeps dust and grit off the paint and glass.
Before booking, check two things on the Qatari side. First, Under Qatar’s usual rule, a light vehicle older than 5 years by model year will not be accepted for import; classics past 35 years are among the few exceptions. Second, cars converted from right-hand drive, or damaged by flood, fire or a serious accident, are not allowed in. Duty comes to 5% of the vehicle’s value, VAT does not apply, and registration in Qatar is due within 14 days of entry.
In the Kingdom, a car leaving for good needs an export certificate from the traffic department and export plates in place of its Saudi plates, a valid periodic inspection, a violations clearance, the registration card and ID, and the bank’s consent if it is financed. More in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.
On handover day
Leave only a quarter of a tank of fuel, take everything out of the cabin and boot, and photograph the car from every side with the driver present. Customs will not accept belongings inside the car; ship them in a separate carton.
Air freight from Taif to Qatar via Jeddah airport
We do not fly direct from Taif. Instead we collect from your home and drive the shipment about 170 km to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, where it flies to Hamad International Airport in Doha in roughly two and a half hours. Air freight from Taif to Doha usually arrives within 24 to 48 hours of collection, from SAR 1,110 per cubic metre or SAR 555 per household appliance.
Use air for what you need straight away: papers, prescription medicines, a work laptop and clothes for the first few weeks. The rest of the house is far cheaper by road. If you are packing perfumes or rose oil, note that flammable liquids face strict airline restrictions and are better sent by truck. The full comparison is in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.
Taif produce: roses, honey and fruit
Many customers like to take a piece of Taif with them: rose water and rose oil, honey, raisins and seasonal fruit. Rose water and jarred honey travel by road in sealed containers wrapped in absorbent layers, inside a separate carton marked “liquids”. Commercial quantities of honey and food need health certificates and an invoice, ideally with a GCC certificate of origin so they cross as national goods without duty.
We do not recommend sending fresh fruit with a furniture shipment, because an ordinary truck is not refrigerated and the trip takes days. For commercial quantities we can arrange a refrigerated truck on request.
Cartons and parcels for students and employees in Taif
Not every shipment is a whole house. An employee who went ahead to Doha needs three cartons and a suitcase, a student sends books, a mother sends her son winter clothes. These go on the shared truck: cartons up to 30 kg begin at SAR 120, suitcases at SAR 138 and 20 kg parcels at SAR 148, while express parcels start at SAR 41 per kg. A personal parcel valued at no more than QR 1,000 normally clears without duty. See cartons and parcels shipping to Qatar.
Shipping shop stock from Taif to Qatar
For shops, farms and small factories in Taif we offer part loads from SAR 370 per tonne or a full truck from SAR 2,300. Include your commercial registration, invoice, packing list and GCC certificate of origin: Saudi-origin goods normally cross without customs duty in Qatar, while 5% is usually charged on goods of non-GCC origin. Qatar has no VAT. For regular trade shipments, read goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.
Paperwork for shipping from Taif to Qatar
- Furniture and belongings: ID or iqama and passport copy, a detailed inventory, and your Qatari employer’s letter and work residence permit for the exemption.
- Car: registration card, export certificate and plates, periodic inspection, violations clearance and bank consent if financed.
- Goods: commercial registration, invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and health certificates for food.
- Recipient in Qatar: a Qatari mobile number linked to the QID, so the broker can be registered on Al Nadeeb before arrival.
Your shipment’s data goes onto the Fasah platform ahead of the truck’s arrival at Salwa, and we follow clearance at Abu Samra until the goods are released. The earlier the papers are complete, the shorter the truck’s wait at the border.
What can’t you ship from Taif to Qatar?
Qatar will not let in weapons or ammunition, alcohol, pork or pork products, khat or any other narcotic, electronic smoking devices of any kind, chewing and sniffing tobacco, used tyres, ivory goods, counterfeit products or currency, anything offensive to religion or public morals, or signal jammers. Medicines for personal use need a prescription and pets an import licence, and you must declare cash or valuables worth QR 50,000 or more. We go through your list with you before loading and flag anything that needs a permit.
Delivery across Qatar from Taif
After Abu Samra we deliver anywhere in Qatar. Doha, Al Rayyan, Lusail and Al Waab are usually reached at the end of the expected 3 to 5 working days, and Al Wakrah and Mesaieed in the south are close by. Al Khor and Al Thakhira in the north-east, and Al Shamal, Dukhan and Al Shahaniya to the north and west, may need an extra day, and we book them a separate slot. For towers in Doha and Lusail we reserve the lift and request an access permit from building management ahead of arrival.

What pushes the cost of shipping from Taif up or down?
- Volume: every extra cubic metre counts, so selling before you leave lowers the bill
- Type of service: a dedicated truck is faster and dearer than a shared one
- Antique furniture: custom wooden crates add to the price but protect rare pieces
- Location of the home: narrow streets and hilltop resorts may need an extra small truck
- Destination in Qatar: Al Shamal and Dukhan are further than Doha
- Season: summer and the end of the school year are the busiest periods
Worked example
A family in Al Hawiyah is moving 8 cubic metres of loose furniture, a fridge and a washing machine to Al Wakrah. Furniture from SAR 555 per cubic metre comes to SAR 4,440, the two appliances from SAR 230 each add SAR 460, so the total starts from about SAR 4,900, plus clearance from SAR 138 if requested.
The cheapest option is undoubtedly shared road freight, combined with a smaller load and paperwork prepared early. Waiting for a shared truck to fill can add a day, but for anyone not in a hurry it saves a good part of the cost.
Mistakes people make when shipping from Taif to Qatar
- Putting off the furniture shipment until more than six months have passed since arriving in Qatar.
- Folding hand-made rugs instead of rolling them, so they are damaged by the heat on the road.
- Sending perfumes and rose oil by air without knowing the rules on flammable liquids.
- Starting to remove the plates from a car that is more than five years old.
- Sending fresh fruit on a truck with no refrigeration.
- Forgetting the recipient’s Qatari mobile number, which delays the broker’s registration.
