Looking for a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Qatar? Gulf International Shipping carries furniture, cars, cartons and commercial goods from every Saudi city to Doha and every other part of Qatar, by road through the Salwa crossing (Abu Samra on the Qatari side) and by air into Hamad International Airport. Eastern Province loads (Dammam, Al-Ahsa) are the quickest at 1–3 days; Riyadh takes 2–4 days, and the western cities of Jeddah, Makkah and Taif need 3–5 working days until it reaches the recipient. Starting prices on this route: SAR 7.5 per kilo of consolidated cargo, SAR 92 per small parcel, SAR 1,470 per bedroom, SAR 3,230 for a three-bed flat plus living room, and SAR 1,100 for a sedan travelling on a shared carrier.
We wrote this for anyone who wants straight answers before picking up the phone: what it costs, when it arrives, which papers to prepare, and whether Qatar will charge customs duty. Prices come first, then transit times from each Saudi city, then what happens at the border, then each type of shipment in detail, with links to deeper guides on every topic.

Approximate prices for shipping from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
Below are our entry prices for the loads people ask about most on the Qatar run. We checked what other carriers publish from Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah and pitched our starting figure under theirs. Each cell holds two numbers: the price we book the smallest load of that kind at, and the usual ceiling for a bigger or more awkward one.
Note: by truck the east takes 1–3 days, the capital 2–4 and the western cities 3–5 working days; a plane delivers in 24–48 hours.
Detailed price list by item
Plenty of customers aren’t moving a whole home. They want to send a fridge, an air conditioner, a wardrobe or a few cartons. So we price each item on its own; every figure below is a “from” price covering road transport to the agreed city in Qatar.
The gap between a bedroom (SAR 1,470) and a full bedroom with dismantling and assembly (SAR 1,660) is the service, not the furniture. The first moves a room that is already packed; the second includes our crew taking the bed and wardrobe apart at your home, wrapping them and rebuilding them in Qatar. The same logic applies to the dedicated dyna: its price covers the truck and the road, while a full apartment move includes packing, loading and labour at both ends. City-by-city figures are on our Qatar shipping prices page.
Anything without a listed price, such as heavy machinery, antiques or exhibition stands, is priced on size, weight and the packing it needs. Send photos and dimensions on WhatsApp to 0568829975 and ask for a quote; we’ll reply with a price and a loading date.

Tell us the shipment type, your loading city in Saudi Arabia and the city in Qatar, and we’ll send the price, transit time and the next available truck.
How long does it take to ship from Saudi Arabia to Qatar?
Transit time to Qatar depends mainly on how far your city is from Salwa, because every truck bound for Qatar leaves through that one crossing. Salwa sits only about 90 km from Doha, so the Qatari leg is short; the long part of the trip is inside the Kingdom. The table below summarises what Gulf International Shipping works with when scheduling departures.
All figures are approximate: distance shifts with the collection point and the road taken, and road times already allow for loading, both border posts and delivery.
Eastern Province: the shortest road to Qatar
From Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Jubail and Qatif, trucks head south to Al-Ahsa and then on to Salwa, which is why Eastern Province shipments arrive first. A ready shipment loaded in the morning can clear the border the same day if its papers are complete, and most are delivered within 1 to 3 days. Details are in our guide to shipping from Dammam to Qatar.
Riyadh and Najd: about six hours of driving
Riyadh trucks take the Khurais road to Hofuf and then Salwa, about 600 km to Doha in all. A dedicated truck for a single customer can arrive within two days; a shared load waits until the truck is full, so we allow 2 to 4 days. To see which districts we cover in the capital, read shipping from Riyadh to Qatar.
The west and north: a trip across the Kingdom
Shipments from Jeddah, Makkah and Taif cross the country from west to east, through Riyadh and Hofuf before Salwa, covering between 1,400 and 1,550 km. We plan 3 to 5 working days for them, 4 to 6 days for Madinah, and roughly 5 to 7 days for Tabuk, the farthest point. Each city has its own guide: Jeddah to Qatar, Makkah to Qatar, Taif to Qatar, Madinah to Qatar and Tabuk to Qatar.
Salwa and Abu Samra: Qatar’s single road border
The town of Salwa in Al-Udaid Governorate is the last Saudi stop on the way to Qatar, and Saudipedia counts its border post as the one crossing between the two countries. The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority runs it with the Border Guard, with Abu Samra on the far side. Because it works through the night, we book night crossings whenever that saves a shipment time.

Some websites mention the Al-Batha crossing as an “alternative” route to Qatar. It isn’t: Al-Batha is the UAE border, and the only road into Qatar goes through Salwa. Knowing this protects you from promises of routes that don’t exist and transit times that can’t happen. Every load’s details go into Fasah in advance and the Qatari broker is set up in Al Nadeeb before the truck rolls, so it reaches Salwa with a finished file instead of starting from scratch at the frontier. Our Salwa crossing guide follows a shipment through both posts.
Shipping services from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
The Qatar road is relatively short from the Eastern Province and Riyadh, so it carries a wide mix of cargo: a family relocating for a job in Doha, a trader sending stock to a shop in Al Rayyan, someone shipping their car, an online store sending orders to customers. At Gulf International Shipping each type travels in the load that suits it; we never put household furniture together with heavy goods or food.
Home and office furniture
We start with a survey by photo or a home visit, then dismantle bedrooms, wardrobes and kitchens and wrap every piece in several layers: bubble film over surfaces, stiff board on the corners, and timber crates for large screens, glass and antiques. Pieces are numbered and photographed before loading, then reassembled in Qatar where they belong in the new home. Majlis seating, sofas, dining tables, air conditioners and fridges are handled the same way. For offices we dismantle workstations and meeting tables and label the cabling. Our guide to moving furniture from Saudi Arabia to Qatar explains the whole process.
Car shipping to Qatar
Cars travel on open shared carriers, on a private hydraulic flatbed, or in an enclosed carrier for luxury and sports models. Check the model year before booking: as a rule Qatar won’t import a light vehicle more than five years beyond its model year, and the few exceptions include classics over 35. It also turns away cars converted from right-hand drive and any car with flood or structural crash damage. Cars sit outside the household-goods exemption, so they pay 5% of their value in duty, and the owner has 14 days after entry to register them. The full process is in our car shipping guide for Qatar.
Cartons, parcels and personal belongings
If your shipment is clothes, books, kitchenware and gifts, you don’t need a truck of your own. We group cartons and suitcases into shared loads, where a box (max 30 kg) is from SAR 120, a suitcase at SAR 138, and loose items at SAR 7.5 per kilo. Use double-wall cartons, write the recipient’s name and Qatari number on each one, and keep a short list of what is inside every box. Duty usually isn’t charged on a personal parcel if its value stays within QAR 1,000. See our cartons and parcels guide for more.
Commercial goods: full or shared truckload
A trader who fills a whole truck books a full truckload (FTL): a dedicated dyna or a 13.6 m trailer that leaves on their schedule with no waiting. Someone with a few pallets or a shop’s stock chooses a shared load (LTL), pays by weight or volume, and waits for the truck to fill. Products of Saudi manufacture that carry a GCC origin certificate generally enter as local goods; imports from outside the Gulf generally pay 5%. Paperwork and GCC duty settlement are covered in our commercial goods guide.

Temperature-controlled freight for dates and food
Dates, sweets and packaged food are among the most common things sent from the Kingdom to Qatar, especially in season. These loads need a health certificate and an invoice, and may need a refrigerated truck if they are heat-sensitive. Tell us the product and its packaging before booking, and we’ll work out whether a closed box body is enough or the load needs cooling.
Equipment, exhibitions and online stores
We also move office and light industrial equipment, exhibition and shop fit-outs, and orders for online stores selling to customers in Qatar. Heavy equipment needs a survey to choose the right truck and lifting gear; store orders are consolidated on a regular schedule based on volume.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
Air freight is the answer when time matters more than cost: official documents, trade samples, urgent spare parts, or the belongings a new employee needs in their first week in Doha. Every flight lands at Hamad International Airport, and door-to-door delivery takes 24 to 48 hours including collection, clearance and drop-off.
- From Riyadh: roughly 80–95 minutes in the air, with several departures daily
- From Dammam: about 55 minutes, the shortest flight to Doha
- From Jeddah: about 2 h 25
- From Madinah: a direct route to Doha operates
- From Tabuk: about 2 h 55
Express parcels by air cost from SAR 41 per kilo; furniture flown in costs from SAR 1,110 per cubic metre. Anything bigger is billed on the greater of scale weight and dimensional weight (L × W × H in cm ÷ 5,000). Send us sizes and weight for a per-kilo price. Road and air are compared side by side in our Qatar air freight guide.

Is there sea freight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar?
Sea freight can be arranged on request for commercial containers, sailing from Dammam’s King Abdulaziz Port into Hamad Port, but it’s a narrow option. We don’t recommend it for furniture, cars or parcels: the road is shorter, faster and delivers door to door, whereas the sea adds a haul to the port, another from the port, and more days. If you have goods that fill a container and aren’t urgent, talk to us and we’ll compare the sea cost with a truck.
Customs and taxes when shipping to Qatar
This section answers the question our customers ask most: “Will I pay customs in Qatar?” The answer depends on what you’re shipping and who you are, but three general rules are worth knowing before you pack.
- VAT: Qatar hasn’t introduced it yet, so there’s no extra 5% to budget for as there is in some Gulf states
- Customs duty: typically 5% on goods made outside the Gulf; a Saudi product with a GCC origin certificate usually enters as a local product
- Excise tax: tobacco and energy drinks carry 100% and fizzy drinks 50%; this matters to traders more than to households
The used-furniture exemption for new residents
Anyone who isn’t Qatari and is moving to Qatar for their first job there may import used furniture, used appliances and personal effects free of duty under the General Authority of Customs’ rules. What it takes: delivery within half a year of your arrival, a letter from your new employer giving your role and nationality, your residence permit and ID copy, and a customs-stamped list of the goods, plus a promise not to sell or give them away for a full year. New purchases, whether appliances or furniture, pay duty, and so does a car. Qataris moving home get the same relief for used belongings if they meet the criteria. The rules in full are in Qatar used household goods customs.
Don’t believe “zero duty on everything”
Some companies promise a full exemption for any furniture, say the exemption is “one time only”, or claim Saudi cars enter free. In reality the exemption is conditional, limited to used goods and to the six-month window, and cars pay their duty. If your shipment arrives after the window or its papers are incomplete, 5% may be charged.
GCC duty settlement and certificates of origin
Goods made outside the Gulf that already paid duty on entering Saudi Arabia are normally not charged twice, because GCC states use a duty-settlement mechanism and a statistical statement. To benefit, the trader needs a clear invoice and proof of the duty paid in the Kingdom; we prepare these with you before loading so release at Abu Samra isn’t held up.
Documents required for shipping to Qatar
Half of all border delays come down to one missing paper. So before loading, we send every customer a document list that fits their shipment and go through it with them. Here is what is usually needed for each type:
On the Qatari side, the recipient usually has to authorise the customs broker electronically in the Al Nadeeb system, using a Qatari mobile number registered to their QID. This applies especially to furniture shipments claiming the exemption. If your Qatari ID hasn’t been issued yet, tell us early so we can time the shipment for after it arrives.
Prohibited and restricted items for Qatar
These are the main items barred from entering Qatar under Qatari customs rules. The list isn’t exhaustive, so ask us about anything you’re unsure of before you pack it.
- Prohibited: weapons, ammunition and explosives; all narcotics including khat; alcohol; pork products; ivory; e-cigarettes, e-shisha and heated-tobacco devices; chewing and snuff tobacco; used tyres; asbestos; counterfeit currency and goods; radar jammers
- Restricted: medicines only with a prescription; pets only with an import licence; a declaration for cash or valuables reaching QAR 50,000; a health certificate for food and dates; prior approval for drones and comms equipment
One item can stop the whole truck
An e-cigarette forgotten in a wardrobe drawer or a tin of snuff inside a carton can hold up your shipment, and other people’s, at Abu Samra. Empty drawers and pockets before packing, and leave nothing personal inside a car being shipped.

Delivery across Qatar
After Abu Samra the truck heads north towards Doha, the first stop for most shipments. From Doha we distribute to the other cities, so nearby areas are usually delivered on the day the truck arrives or the following day, depending on what suits the recipient.

Moving into a tower in Lusail or Doha? We ask customers to book the service lift and loading bay with building management before arrival, since many buildings set fixed moving hours. It’s a small step that saves hours of waiting and extra charges.
How is the cost of shipping to Qatar calculated?
The final price isn’t one number; it comes from several factors, some of which you control:
- Volume and weight: furniture goes by the cubic metre and parcels by the kilo, charged on whichever is greater, real or dimensional weight
- Truck type: shared loads are cheaper, a dedicated dyna is faster, and trailers take big loads
- Loading city: the nearer to Salwa, the lower the price: the east beats Riyadh, and Riyadh beats the west and north
- City in Qatar: Doha is nearer than Al Shamal or Dukhan
- Extra services: dismantling and assembly, wooden crates, storage, and labour on upper floors without a lift
- Shipment value: affects insurance and the duty on items that aren’t exempt
A worked example
A family in Riyadh wants to ship 4 cubic metres of mixed belongings, a full bedroom with dismantling and assembly, and a sedan. Belongings: 4 × 415 = SAR 1,660; the full bedroom from SAR 1,660; a sedan on the shared carrier from SAR 1,100; the clearance service from SAR 138. The total starts from SAR 4,558 and changes with the actual volume after the survey and the delivery city in Qatar.
Cheapest ways to ship to Qatar from the Kingdom
- Choose a shared load: if you aren’t in a hurry, sharing a truck costs less than booking a whole dyna
- Cut the volume first: sell or donate heavy old furniture; buying new in Qatar can cost less than shipping it
- Take things apart: a bed broken down flat needs roughly a third of the space it fills assembled
- Book ahead: demand peaks as schools break up and in the run-up to Ramadan
- Use the exemption: if you’re a new employee in Qatar, ship your used furniture within the first six months
- Road before air: air only makes sense for small, urgent items
Common mistakes to avoid when shipping to Qatar
- Missing the exemption window: furniture landing after your sixth month in Qatar can attract duty you didn’t need to pay
- Mixing new with used: new appliances in their original boxes are dutiable, so list them separately
- Buying an old car to ship: a light vehicle older than 5 years normally can’t enter Qatar
- A vague inventory: “household items” isn’t enough; give the number of cartons and what each holds
- Leaving things in the car: cars travel empty, and a quarter tank of fuel is plenty
- Trusting unrealistic transit promises: no truck gets from Jeddah to Doha in one day, whatever you’re told
Shipping from Qatar to Saudi Arabia
We run the reverse route too: from Doha and other Qatari cities to Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah and every Saudi city, through Abu Samra and then Salwa. It suits residents finishing a contract in Qatar and heading back to the Kingdom, and traders importing from Qatar. The paperwork differs slightly, so tell us the shipment type and we’ll send what you need.
How to choose a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
Before handing your furniture or car to anyone, ask four questions: which crossing will the truck use, how many days from my city, does the price include dismantling, packing and clearance, and which papers do I prepare? A company that knows the road answers with clear numbers; one that doesn’t promises everything.
