Gulf International Shipping is a shipping company from Riyadh to Qatar that collects from any district in the capital and drives your shipment via Khurais and Hofuf to the Salwa border post and on through Abu Samra, reaching Doha door to door in 2 to 4 days by road, or in 24 to 48 hours by air. At Gulf International Shipping, shipping from Riyadh to Qatar starts from SAR 7.5 per kg, a carton from SAR 120, a bedroom with dismantling and assembly from SAR 1,660, a sedan from SAR 1,100 and a dedicated truck from SAR 1,660.
After the Eastern Province, Riyadh is the closest major Saudi city to Qatar: about 600 km to Doha, or roughly 6 hours at the wheel of a private car. A shipment does not move at private-car speed, though. It has to be collected, packed, declared and cleared at two border posts. This page follows your shipment day by day, from the moment it leaves your Riyadh district to delivery in Qatar, and sets out what you pay for each kind of load.

How long does shipping from Riyadh to Qatar take?
At Gulf International Shipping, a road shipment from Riyadh to Doha usually takes 2 to 4 days. Most of that time is not spent driving but on consolidation, loading and customs clearance. Here is a typical timeline for furniture or general goods collected in Riyadh in the morning:
A dedicated truck saves roughly a day because it leaves as soon as your load is on board, without waiting for other consignments. A shared load is cheaper, but it moves once the truck is full.
The road from Riyadh to Doha via Khurais, Hofuf and Salwa
The truck leaves Riyadh eastbound on the Khurais road, and a little past the eastern suburbs it crosses the Ad-Dahna sand belt, a long ribbon of red dunes that separates Najd from the Eastern Province. The road is straight and wide here, but summer heat is intense, which is why we carry appliances and furniture in closed truck bodies rather than on open trailers.

After Khurais the road reaches Hofuf in Al-Ahsa, the last large city before the border, then runs south-east to Salwa in Al-Udaid governorate. Salwa is the single road gateway from the Kingdom into Qatar; it is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week, and faces Abu Samra on the Qatari side. From Abu Samra about 90 km remain to Doha, from where shipments are distributed to the rest of the country.
There is no alternative crossing into Qatar
Some pages list the Al-Batha crossing as another way into Qatar. It is not: Al-Batha is the UAE crossing. Every road shipment from Riyadh to Qatar goes through Salwa, which is why filing the data early is what decides how fast the truck gets across.
For details of the crossing itself, from opening hours to what a truck needs at the border, see our guide to the Salwa–Abu Samra border crossing and our overview of land freight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.
Shipping prices from Riyadh to Qatar
Gulf International Shipping’s Riyadh prices sit below the rates other carriers publish for the same road. The first figure is the starting price; the second is typical for a larger or harder-to-load shipment.
Note: from Riyadh, road shipments usually need 2 to 4 days; the delivery area in Qatar and the time spent clearing both border posts can shift that, while air takes 24 to 48 hours.

We collect from every Riyadh district
You do not need to bring your shipment to us. The Gulf International Shipping crew collects from homes, offices and warehouses across the capital; smaller consignments are then consolidated at a warehouse in the industrial area south of Riyadh, wrapped on pallets and loaded onto the truck bound for Salwa.

After wrapping, every pallet is weighed and measured, because shared-load pricing uses actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater. We send you a photo of the shipment, ready to go, before the truck doors are closed.
Furniture moving from Riyadh to Qatar
Most people who ask about shipping from Riyadh to Qatar are moving a home, not a parcel. That changes everything: dismantling, packing and numbering, a belongings list for customs, and the arrival date. At Gulf International Shipping a bedroom with dismantling, packing and assembly starts from SAR 1,660, a majlis with dining room from SAR 2,400, an apartment (3 bedrooms and living room) from SAR 3,230 and a villa from SAR 6,350.
If this is your first job posting in Qatar, your used furniture may enter duty-free if it arrives within 6 months of your entry, with your employer letter, Qatari residence permit and a belongings list, and provided you do not sell it within a year. New appliances are not covered. The full details are in our guides to furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Qatar and Qatar used household goods customs.
A tip for Riyadh apartment dwellers
If your flat is on an upper floor without a large lift, tell us when you ask for a price. We will send enough crew and bring ropes and covers to lower large pieces without scratching walls or stairs.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Qatar
Gulf International Shipping moves cars from Riyadh to Qatar from SAR 1,100 (sedan, shared multi-car carrier), SAR 1,390 (SUV), SAR 1,850 (luxury car, enclosed carrier) and SAR 2,300 (private hydraulic flatbed). A multi-car carrier suits everyday cars; an enclosed carrier protects the paint of luxury cars from dust and grit on the desert highway.
Check the car’s age before any paperwork: the rule normally applied in Qatar bars light vehicles older than 5 years from their model year, apart from a few exceptions such as classics past 35 years. Cars that have burned, flooded, rolled over or suffered frame damage, and any right-hand-drive conversion, are refused entry. You can view your car’s customs card on Absher. When handing the car over, leave only a quarter tank of fuel and no personal belongings inside; we photograph it from every side before loading. Commercial shipping from Riyadh: full or shared loads
Riyadh is a major distribution hub, and many of its shops and suppliers sell to customers in Qatar. Small consignments go on a shared load from SAR 7.5 per kg or SAR 415 per cubic metre, and a shop consignment of 50–100 kg starts from SAR 830. Larger loads take a dedicated dyna from SAR 1,660, or a bigger truck depending on volume.
- GCC certificate of origin: Saudi-origin goods normally move as national goods within the GCC customs union when a GCC certificate of origin is attached.
- Foreign-origin goods: Qatar’s customs duty is usually 5% on non-GCC goods, and goods already duty-paid in Saudi Arabia avoid double duty through the GCC clearing (statistical statement) mechanism.
- No VAT: Qatar does not apply VAT so far, though it does levy excise tax on tobacco, energy drinks and carbonated drinks.
- Paperwork: commercial invoice, packing list, commercial registration and certificate of origin.

Carton and parcel shipping from Riyadh to Qatar
For a student or employee sending belongings, or a family sending gifts to relatives in Doha, a carton (up to 30 kg) starts from SAR 120, a suitcase from SAR 138, a 20 kg parcel from SAR 148 and express parcels from SAR 41 per kg. Duty generally does not apply to personal parcels valued at QAR 1,000 or less.
Seal each carton with strong tape, write the recipient’s name and Qatari mobile number on it, and put a contents list inside. If you have more than 5 cartons, ask for a per-cubic-metre price, which may work out cheaper. More in cartons and parcels shipping to Qatar.
Air freight from Riyadh to Doha
King Khalid International in Riyadh and Hamad International in Doha are about 497 km apart by air, the flight takes between 1 h 20 min and 1 h 35 min, and there are several flights a day. That is why air freight arrives door to door in 24 to 48 hours, including collection in Riyadh and clearance in Doha.
Gulf International Shipping’s air rate for belongings begins at SAR 1,110 per cubic metre; per-kg pricing charges whichever is higher, the weight on the scale or the weight implied by the box size, so we ask for dimensions before quoting. Air suits documents, small devices, urgent light goods and the first-week essentials of people relocating; it does not suit heavy furniture, because road freight is far cheaper and the transit is short anyway. Prohibited items when shipping from Riyadh to Qatar
Before you close the last carton, make sure it holds nothing Qatar bans: alcoholic drinks, pork products, e-cigarettes and heated-tobacco devices, sniffing or chewing tobacco, second-hand tyres, arms and narcotics, counterfeit goods and jamming devices. Some items are restricted and need a permit or certificate, such as personal medicines (with the prescription), pets, food and drones. Cash or valuables of QAR 50,000 or more must be declared. If in doubt about any item, ask us before shipping.
Delivery across Qatar
The truck enters Qatar at Abu Samra in the south-west, then covers about 90 km to Doha. Delivery in Doha, Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah usually happens on the day of arrival or the next day; Al Khor, the north and Dukhan are scheduled in advance because they are further from the capital.

How is the cost of shipping from Riyadh to Qatar calculated?
On a shared load the price is based on actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is greater. For express and air freight, volumetric weight is usually length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5000. Furniture is mostly priced by cubic metre, by room or by truck.
Example: a 60 × 50 × 50 cm carton weighing 12 kg has a volumetric weight of 150,000 ÷ 5000 = 30 kg, so express pricing charges it as 30 kg, not 12. On shared road freight the same carton falls under the carton price, from SAR 120. That is why we always suggest the cheapest method for what you are sending.
- Shipment type: furniture, goods, a car or cartons
- Volume and weight: whichever is greater is charged
- Shared or dedicated: dedicated is faster but dearer for small loads
- Qatari destination: Al Wakrah and Doha are closer than Al Khor and Dukhan
- Extra services: dismantling, assembly, wooden crating and insurance
The cheapest way to ship from Riyadh to Qatar
- Use a few large cartons rather than many small ones.
- Use shared road freight for anything that is not urgent.
- Choose a dedicated dyna for a whole home: it costs less than pricing items one by one.
- Do not fly furniture: you save a day or two at a much higher price.
- Book early before peak seasons, when demand for trucks rises.
Common mistakes when shipping from Riyadh to Qatar
- An incomplete Qatari address with no Qatari mobile number for the recipient.
- Shipping a car more than 5 years old without checking it will be accepted in Qatar.
- Forgetting the bank’s approval to export a financed car.
- Mixing new appliances with used furniture on one list.
- Packing e-cigarettes or medicines without a prescription in the cartons.
- Delaying the move until six months after entering Qatar, so the exemption is lost.
