Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait is available with Gulf International Shipping from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Madinah and Taif airports to Kuwait International Airport, with delivery to the receiver’s door in one to three days, subject to the flights available. The flight itself is short: about 55 minutes to an hour from Dammam, about 1 hour 20 minutes from Riyadh and around two hours from Jeddah. We set the air rate per kilo for each shipment according to its actual or volumetric weight and the space on the flight. If your shipment can wait an extra day or two, our road alternative is far cheaper: small parcels start at SAR 46, cartons at SAR 138, and trucking a sedan at SAR 1,100.
This page is for anyone with an urgent shipment for Kuwait who needs to decide quickly: plane or truck? From which airport? Roughly how much? And what will airlines or Kuwaiti customs refuse? You will also find a third route that few people know about: flying the cargo to Dammam and finishing the trip by truck through the Khafji crossing.

Which Saudi airports can you air freight to Kuwait from?
The best airport is usually the one nearest the pickup point, but not always. Sometimes trucking the cargo to a bigger airport with more flights is faster than waiting for a flight from a small one. These are the airports we ship from to Kuwait International Airport:
Those are flying times only. What matters to you is the time from when we collect at your door to delivery in Kuwait, which includes sorting, weighing, issuing the air waybill, waiting for the flight, clearance at Kuwait airport and the final drive. That is why we quote 24–72 hours, not one hour, and why we confirm schedules and space only when you book: they shift from week to week.

Air freight to Kuwait: approximate prices
We do not publish a fixed per-kilo air rate to Kuwait, because it moves with flight space, volumetric weight and the type of goods, and we found no company publishing a reliable figure on this route for us to undercut. What Gulf International Shipping does instead is price every shipment individually, quickly, once we know its weight and dimensions. The same table shows our published road prices, so you can see the gap before you decide:
Note: by plane, expect 24–72 hours depending on flight availability; by truck, Dammam and Al-Ahsa loads take one to two days, the capital two to three, Jeddah, Makkah, Taif and Madinah three to five working days, while a Tabuk load needs about four to six.
The price gap between air and road is usually large, because an aircraft charges for every kilo and every centimetre, while shipments on a truck share its cost. So we recommend air when time is worth more than the difference: a document that must arrive before a deadline, a spare part a machine is waiting for, or a sample a buyer is expecting. Road rates for every Saudi city sit in our price guide, shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.
How do airlines weigh a shipment to Kuwait?
Airlines do not charge on the scale reading alone. They compare it with the volumetric weight and bill whichever is higher. To get it, the length, width and height in centimetres are multiplied together and the result divided by 6,000, the divisor most airlines use. That is why a large, light carton can cost more than a small, heavy one.
A worked example
A carton measuring 60 × 40 × 40 cm weighs 9 kg on the scale. Its volume is 96,000 cm³; divided by 6,000 that gives a volumetric weight of 16 kg, so it is billed at 16 kg, not 9. Repack the same contents into a 50 × 40 × 30 cm box: its dimensional weight drops to 10 kg, a clear saving.
This is why we sometimes repack air cargo before weighing it: we take out the empty space, swap big cartons for smaller ones and combine several parcels into one. The saving is real and can reach half the billed weight on over-sized cartons.
When is air the right choice for Kuwait?
It depends on your city above all. From the Eastern Province a truck reaches Kuwait in a day or two, so flying saves only hours. From the western cities a truck needs 3–5 working days, so air makes more sense for light, urgent parcels:
If you are thinking of flying furniture or a car to Kuwait, our honest answer is: we would not advise it. A bedroom goes by road from SAR 1,100 and arrives in a few days, while flying it costs several times as much, and cars are practically never flown except in very rare cases. For those shipments, the right guides are furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait and car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.
The combined route: fly to Dammam, then truck via Khafji
When direct flights to Kuwait are full on the day you need, or when the cargo is in a distant city with few Kuwait flights, we use a middle way. The shipment flies domestically to Dammam, then continues by truck along the coastal road through the Khafji crossing into Nuwaiseeb and on to the right governorate. By road, Dammam and Kuwait City are roughly 420 km apart, around five hours behind the wheel.
This route combines the speed of the plane over the long leg with the flexibility of a truck over the short one, which needs no international flight booking. It works especially well for urgent loads from Jeddah, Taif and Madinah, and for shipments too big to find quick space on a direct flight. Before the truck reaches the border we book the crossing slot on the Fasah platform, as ZATCA requires. To understand the difference between the Khafji and Ruqai crossings, read Saudi–Kuwait border crossings for shipping.
Ask us to price all three routes
When you request a quote, give us the latest date the shipment must arrive. We compare a direct flight, the combined route via Dammam and a truck from your city, and send you the price and transit time for each.
What goes to Kuwait by air?
The shipments we fly to Kuwait most often:
- Documents: contracts, official papers and certificates with a delivery deadline.
- Spare parts: for cars, equipment and factories when work depends on a single part.
- Commercial samples: products a Kuwaiti buyer needs to see before ordering in volume.
- Small high-value devices: laptops, phones and new medical devices with their paperwork.
- Urgent personal items: a suitcase of clothes or papers a traveller left behind.
- Gifts and dates in small quantities: well packed, with an invoice if they are commercial.
What is banned or restricted in air freight to Kuwait?
Items restricted by airlines
These fall under the dangerous-goods rules for air cargo. An airline may refuse them or require special packing and paperwork, so tell us about them before packing:
- loose lithium batteries and power banks;
- perfumes, liquid incense and oud oil in commercial quantities, most of which are flammable;
- aerosols and pressurised spray cans, and chemical cleaning products;
- gas cylinders and any fuel or flammable liquid;
- strong magnets and some measuring instruments.
Items banned by Kuwaiti customs
- pork and pork products, and alcoholic drinks;
- gambling machines, pornographic material and narcotics;
- used medical equipment;
- firearms and ammunition, walkie-talkies and radio transmitters;
- goods made in or connected with Israel.
Restricted items include medicines, cleared only with a Ministry of Health approval in Kuwait, and e-cigarettes, which travellers may carry only in small personal amounts and which we never carry as commercial cargo. Not sure about an item? Send us its name and a photo and we’ll answer before the flight is booked.
Customs on air shipments arriving in Kuwait
Rule one: Kuwait has not introduced VAT, so no VAT of any rate applies to your shipment. Rule two: duty, where it applies, is usually 5% of the value of new goods made outside the GCC, while Saudi-made products with a GCC certificate of origin come in free of duty. That is why we ask for the invoice and certificate of origin with commercial shipments, however small.
Small personal parcels have a duty-free threshold set by Kuwaiti customs instructions, reported as KWD 100 for a non-commercial personal parcel; we confirm it at the time of shipping. For used household goods sent by air, international movers’ guides say the exemption generally covers a value of only around USD 1,000, with duty charged above that; Kuwaiti customs sets the exact conditions, and we verify them before anything ships. That is why we send furniture and large household loads by road. Details of the exemption are in Kuwait used household goods customs.
Declare the real value
Writing a lower value on an air shipment’s invoice can leave it held at Kuwaiti customs until the value is proven, wiping out the speed you paid for. A correct value with a clear invoice is the fastest route through clearance.
Documents needed for air freight to Kuwait
Packing tips for air cargo to Kuwait
- Use a double-wall carton close in size to the contents, because empty space is charged as volumetric weight.
- Wrap devices in bubble wrap and centre them in the carton, away from the walls.
- Tape round the caps of permitted liquids and seal them in a bag inside the carton.
- Write the receiver’s name and number on two sides of the carton and attach a copy of the contents list.
- Keep important documents apart from goods, in a separate envelope inside the shipment.
If you do not have suitable packing materials, we pack it ourselves at collection and measure the weight and dimensions straight after, so you know the final price before booking.
Collection at Kuwait airport and delivery to the door
After landing, the shipment goes into the air-cargo warehouse at Kuwait International Airport for inspection and customs clearance. We then truck it in a closed vehicle to the receiver’s address in any governorate: the Capital, Shuwaikh and Dasma; Hawalli, Salmiya and Jabriya; Farwaniya; Al Jahra; Mubarak Al-Kabeer; and Al Ahmadi, Fahaheel, Mangaf, Wafra and Sabah Al-Ahmad. We call the receiver before arrival and send you confirmation of delivery.
If the receiver prefers to collect from the airport in person, we send the waybill number and instructions once the cargo lands. Door delivery, though, saves them the trip to the warehouse and the clearance formalities, which is why most of our customers choose it.

The cheapest way to ship to Kuwait
If price matters more than speed, shared road freight is always the cheapest: small parcels from SAR 46, a carton from SAR 138, commercial cargo from SAR 2.75 a kilo. If it has to fly, here is how to bring the cost down:
- cut the volumetric weight with a carton that fits the contents and has no empty space;
- combine parcels into one shipment rather than several small ones, since each shipment carries fixed charges;
- fly only the urgent part and send the rest by truck;
- book a day or two ahead instead of asking for the very first available flight;
- try the combined route via Dammam for medium-sized loads.
Common mistakes with air freight to Kuwait
- Flying furniture or large household goods and paying several times the cost of a truck.
- Ignoring volumetric weight, so the final price comes in higher than expected.
- Packing a power bank or lots of perfume in a carton without telling the shipper, so the shipment is refused at screening.
- Declaring a false value on the invoice.
- Leaving out the certificate of origin on Saudi-made goods, which turns a duty-free item into a dutiable one.
- Relying on one particular flight with no back-up plan, when another route could be booked within hours.
