Cartons and parcels shipping to Kuwait

Cartons and parcels shipping to Kuwait with Gulf International Shipping starts when a courier collects your box or suitcase at home in any Saudi city, and ends when it is handed to your family or customer at their door in Kuwait. Road delivery takes a day or two for Dammam cartons, two or three days for Riyadh ones, and three to five working days for boxes from Jeddah; by air it is 24–72 hours depending on flights. Prices start at SAR 46 for a small parcel or documents, SAR 64 from Dammam for anything up to 10 kg, SAR 110 for a 60×40×40 carton from Jeddah, SAR 138 for a personal-effects carton from Riyadh, and SAR 184 for a suitcase up to 30 kg.

This page is for people sending clothes, gifts and household bits to family in Kuwait, for Kuwaitis taking their personal belongings home from the Kingdom, and for online stores selling to Kuwaiti customers. It covers what a carton costs from your city, how a carton, a suitcase and a standalone parcel differ, how to pack so nothing arrives crushed, what must stay out of the box, and when a parcel pays duty in Kuwait.

What does a carton to Kuwait cost?

Three things set the price: the carton’s weight and size, the city it leaves from, and the way it travels, whether alongside other customers’ cartons in a shared truck, or as a standalone parcel or by air. Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices sit below what other carriers advertise on the Kuwait route. Each row shows two figures: the first is the rate for the lightest box of that type, the second what heavier or farther shipments typically reach.

Note: an Eastern Province carton needs a day or two on the road and a Riyadh one two to three days, while boxes from the Hejaz cities take three to five working days; a parcel sent by plane covers the distance in 24–72 hours, subject to flight schedules.

If you have a lot of cartons, paying by the kilo or by the cubic metre can work out cheaper than paying per box. Send us the count and rough weights, and we will price both ways and pick the lower. Carton, suitcase or standalone parcel: which suits you?

A carton in the shared truck is the cheapest choice for clothes, household items and gifts that are not urgent. Your carton is consolidated with other customers’ boxes in one truck bound for Kuwait, then sorted there by area and delivered. A suitcase is handled like a carton, but its shell is tougher, which makes it right for clothes, shoes and anything that dislikes pressure. A standalone parcel is for small, light things such as documents, phones and little gifts, and is the better option when the recipient is waiting on a specific date.

A simple rule: under 10 kg and in a hurry, use a standalone or air parcel. Between 10 and 30 kg, a carton or suitcase on the shared truck. More than a handful of cartons, ask for a per-kilo or per-cubic-metre price.

Volumetric weight: why a carton can be charged above its real weight

A large, light carton full of pillows or children’s toys takes far more space in a truck or aircraft than its weight suggests. That is why carriers use volumetric weight: the carton’s dimensions in centimetres (length × width × height) are divided by a fixed figure set by the carrier, and the box is charged on the higher of its actual and volumetric weight. By air the difference can be large; by road it matters less. Our advice: never use a bigger box than you need, and fill gaps with light items rather than air.

How to pack a carton so it reaches Kuwait intact

A carton travels hundreds of kilometres and is lifted and set down several times: at the consolidation centre, during inspection at the border, and in the sorting warehouse in Kuwait. So:

  • Use a new double-wall carton; a second-hand box has lost half its strength.
  • Heavy at the bottom, light on top, and no more than 30 kg per carton.
  • Wrap breakables one by one in bubble wrap, keeping at least 5 cm between them and the carton wall.
  • Seal with wide tape, running it along the centre seam and across both edges, top and bottom.
  • Write the recipient’s name, area and mobile number on two sides, and put a slip with the same details inside.
  • Photograph the contents before closing; the photo helps with the contents list and any later check.

What must not go in cartons sent to Kuwait?

Cartons pass customs inspection at the border, and one box with a prohibited item can hold up a shipment belonging to dozens of customers. Kuwait’s main prohibitions:

  • pork meat and pork products, and alcoholic drinks
  • pornographic material, narcotics and gambling devices
  • two-way radios and transmitters, and firearms, ammunition or their parts
  • products linked to or made in Israel
  • used medical equipment

Some things we refuse in cartons even where they are not banned outright: loose lithium batteries and power banks, large flammable perfumes, gas canisters, poorly sealed liquids and fresh perishable food. E-cigarettes are restricted in Kuwait to set personal quantities for travellers, so keep them out of your boxes. Medicines need approval from Kuwait’s Ministry of Health; if one is essential, include the prescription and tell us before shipping. These are the main restrictions, and we will answer for any item you are unsure about before you pack.

Does a carton pay customs duty in Kuwait?

Used personal items such as clothes, books and simple gifts are not normally treated as commercial goods. Under Kuwaiti customs instructions, a parcel sent in an individual’s name for their own use is generally exempt as long as its value stays within KWD 100. If a carton holds new items in commercial quantities, say ten of the same product, it may be treated as goods and charged 5% of its value unless the items are of GCC origin.

No VAT

With no VAT in Kuwait, nothing is added to your cartons at the border except, possibly, duty on items over the exemption limit or classed as merchandise.

If you are taking a whole household back to Kuwait after living in Saudi Arabia, a separate exemption applies to used furniture and belongings; it is explained in Kuwait used household goods customs.

Documents required for shipping cartons to Kuwait

Personal shipments do not need much paperwork, but accuracy decides how quickly they cross. We ask for:

DocumentWhy it is needed
Sender’s Saudi ID or iqama copyto enter the shipment on the Fasah platform before it reaches the border
Recipient’s name, mobile number and Kuwaiti addressfor delivery and clearance; the recipient’s Civil ID number helps
A contents list for each carton with approximate valuefor customs inspection and to assess the exemption
Invoices for new items or electronicsto prove value if asked
An invoice per parcel (online stores)because a commercial parcel is treated as goods

Sending dates, gifts and packaged food

Dates, coffee, spices and packaged sweets are among the things Saudis and residents send most to relatives in Kuwait. They are accepted if sealed in their original packs or tightly wrapped and labelled. Put them in a separate carton from clothes so smells do not travel, and do not send cooked food, dairy or fresh meat, which spoil on the way and may be refused at inspection. Demand on the Kuwait route rises before Ramadan and Eid, so book early.

For online stores: delivering your Kuwaiti customers’ orders

If your store is in Saudi Arabia and takes orders from Kuwait, we collect your parcels from your warehouse daily or weekly, consolidate them into one shipment, and deliver each to its customer’s address in Kuwait. Attach an invoice with the customer’s name and mobile number to every parcel so it can be handed over without repeated calls. As sales grow, sending stock by pallet to a distributor in Kuwait may be cheaper; see goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait for how that works.

The route from your home to the recipient’s door

Once collected from your home or a drop-off point, each carton is weighed, measured and numbered, then consolidated with other Kuwait-bound cartons. Boxes from the Eastern Province cross from Khafji to Nuwaiseeb, while those from Riyadh and the west usually cross from Ruqai to Salmi, after their data is entered on Fasah and a crossing slot is booked. In Kuwait the cartons are sorted by governorate and area and go out with delivery couriers to their owners.

Air freight for parcels to Kuwait

For urgent parcels such as official documents, prescribed medicines or gifts for a specific occasion, air is the answer. In the air it is about 80 minutes out of Riyadh, around 60 out of Dammam and close to 120 out of Jeddah, and we confirm schedules and space when you book. Door to door a parcel normally lands within 24–72 hours; the bill follows whichever is greater, real or dimensional weight, so share both and we will quote. If no direct flight suits you, we fly the parcel to Dammam and it continues by road through Khafji in about a day. Flight choices are laid out, with timings, on the air freight from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait page.

The cheapest way to ship cartons to Kuwait

  • Pick the shared truck over the plane whenever time allows; the price gap is large.
  • Pack into fewer cartons instead of many half-empty ones.
  • Do not use an oversized box, or you will pay a higher volumetric weight.
  • Send from the city closest to Kuwait if you can, since Eastern Province rates are lower.
  • Book ahead of peak seasons: demand rises before Ramadan, Eid and the start of the school year.

Common mistakes when shipping cartons to Kuwait

  • A missing or switched-off recipient number, so the courier leaves without delivering.
  • A power bank or batteries in the clothes carton.
  • Writing just “belongings” instead of listing the contents.
  • A weak second-hand carton that collapses under the others.
  • Cooked or fresh food that spoils and ruins everything around it.
