The Taif–Kuwait road: via Riyadh or via Qassim?
Two main roads lead from Taif towards the Kuwaiti border, and both end at Hafar Al-Batin and the Al-Ruqai crossing. One heads east to Riyadh and then north through Al-Majma’ah to Hafar Al-Batin; the other climbs north to Qassim before turning towards Hafar Al-Batin. Gulf International Shipping picks the road by truck type and consolidation point: a shared load usually passes through the hub where it fills up, while a dedicated truck takes whichever road is shorter on the day.
Hafar Al-Batin marks the start of the final stretch inside the Kingdom. By this point the truck’s border time is already fixed through Fasah: ZATCA’s rule is that carriers reserve it before arrival, and the truck may be no more than three hours early or late. Once the Saudi exit at Al-Ruqai is done, the truck crosses to Al-Salmi, where the load is inspected and Kuwaiti clearance is completed.
The Khafji crossing on the east coast is not Taif’s usual route, since it mainly serves loads from Dammam and the Eastern Province. Collection from Taif’s districts and highlands
Taif is a mountain city, and some homes in Al-Hada, Al-Shafa and the upper districts sit on narrow or steep roads that a large truck cannot get into. In those cases Gulf International Shipping moves your things in a small dyna from the front door to a point where the big truck can park, and loads them there. We settle this before collection day so the crew is not held up.

Shipping a fridge and electronics from Taif
Appliances are the items most often shipped on their own from Taif. A fridge always travels upright; it is drained and dried a day before loading and its doors are secured with tape that leaves no marks. Important: Used medical equipment is banned from entering Kuwait. The SAR 1,840 price in the list applies to new medical devices with their invoices, and some may need approval from the Kuwaiti health authority before shipping.
Living room furniture, majlis sets and decor
A living room ships from Taif from SAR 1,840, majlis seating and sofas from SAR 735, and decor items from SAR 920. The price difference comes down to size, number of pieces and type of packing: a sofa set needs full fabric covers, glass tables need crates, and ornaments and vases are wrapped one by one and placed in padded cartons.
Someone shipping a full living room with a bedroom and a kitchen is usually close to the volume of a small furnished flat, which starts at SAR 1,380 on a shared truck. In that case we suggest pricing the whole load on space rather than adding up item prices. Chilled food and Taif’s seasonal produce
Many Taif families send seasonal produce such as honey, rose water and fruit to relatives in Kuwait, and some send cooked or frozen food. Small, well-sealed quantities can go in ordinary cartons, but chilled food needs a refrigerated truck or insulated boxes, and with Gulf International Shipping it starts at SAR 1,840 for a small quantity.
Commercial food products need an invoice and a label showing ingredients and expiry date, and a health certificate may be requested. Fresh meat and unpackaged dairy should not go in shared-truck cartons, as they will not survive several days on the road without refrigeration.

Shops, factories and contractors in Taif get load prices: 500 kg of commercial goods from SAR 2,750, small quantities of building materials from SAR 2,300, industrial equipment up to a tonne from SAR 3,220, and a 20 ft container carried by truck from SAR 3,220. Once volumes grow, billing switches to weight: SAR 4.1 a kilo up to half a tonne, SAR 3.2 beyond it.
A Saudi-made product with its GCC origin certificate clears Kuwaiti customs at zero duty; goods sourced outside the Gulf are generally charged 5%. What will Kuwaiti customs ask of a Taif shipment?
Kuwait does not charge VAT, so be wary of any quote that adds it to your bill. What does apply is customs duty, usually 5% on goods and appliances made outside the GCC, while Saudi products with a GCC certificate of origin enter duty-free.
The duty waiver on second-hand household goods, set out in Article 103 of the Gulf’s common customs law, belongs to two groups only: Kuwaiti citizens moving back from abroad and expatriates arriving to settle in Kuwait as new residents. Kuwaiti customs sets the conditions, and we check them before shipping. Someone sending used items to a relative who has lived in Kuwait for years is not normally covered by this exemption, so the load is treated as an ordinary shipment. Kuwaiti customs turns away pork products, alcohol and the equipment to make it, gambling machines, pornographic publications and material, narcotics, used medical equipment, cars older than 10 years, walkie-talkies, weapons and ammunition even if old and decorative, and any goods made in or linked to Israel.
Restricted items include medicines that need Ministry of Health permission, animals that need a health certificate and books that may go through censorship. Delivery in Kuwait: from Jahra to Salmiya
The first governorate the truck reaches after Al-Salmi is Jahra, then Farwaniya and the Capital, then Hawalli and Mubarak Al-Kabeer, with Ahmadi furthest away in the south. Deliveries to residential towers in Salmiya and Hawalli need a lift booking and a word with the guard, while houses need a parking spot for the truck near the door.
We call the receiver in Kuwait before arrival, hand over the items and check them against the inventory. Pieces that need assembling, such as a bedroom or a kitchen, are put together in place by the crew. If the receiver is away on the arrival day, we can agree on another day soon after.
