Furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait with Gulf International Shipping means your home is dismantled, packed and loaded in any Saudi city, driven across the border at Khafji–Nuwaiseeb or Ruqai–Salmi, and reassembled in your new home in Kuwait. A move out of Dammam and the Eastern Province takes one to two days; Riyadh homes need two to three, while loads from the Hejaz cities of Jeddah, Makkah and Taif are delivered within three to five working days. Our prices start at SAR 1,100 for a complete bedroom, SAR 1,840 for the all-in moving package, SAR 3,230 for a three-bedroom apartment and SAR 4,140 for a whole house in a 15-metre trailer.
We wrote this page for people who are actually about to move: Kuwaiti families heading home after years of work or study in the Kingdom, residents relocating to a new job in Kuwait, and households sending part of their furniture to a second home there. It explains which crossing your furniture will use, what it costs, whether customs will charge you, which papers each side asks for, and how we handle everything from marble tops to kitchens and air conditioners.

Which border crossing will your furniture use: Khafji or Ruqai?
Unlike the routes to Qatar or the UAE, the Saudi–Kuwaiti border has two truck crossings. Khafji, in the Eastern Province, faces Kuwait’s Nuwaiseeb post about 3.5 km away and is the natural exit for loads from Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Jubail, Qatif and Al-Ahsa travelling up the Abu Hadriyah coastal road. The new Ruqai crossing, in Hafr Al-Batin governorate, faces Salmi in Kuwait’s Jahra governorate and serves Riyadh, Qassim and the western and northern regions.
Ruqai was designed to process two thousand lorries and twelve thousand vehicles daily, which is why it has become the default for everything coming from central and western Saudi Arabia. Gulf International Shipping chooses the crossing by looking at both ends of the trip: a Riyadh household moving to Fahaheel or Wafra in the south may be better consolidated in Dammam and sent through Khafji, while a Jeddah home bound for Jahra or Farwaniya goes straight through Ruqai.
Distances are approximate and vary with the road taken and the delivery address in Kuwait. Some websites claim Kuwait-bound furniture crosses at “Abdali” or “Rafha”; that is wrong. Abdali lies on Kuwait’s frontier with Iraq, and no border post links Rafha to Kuwait. For queue times and the procedure at each post, see our guide to the Saudi–Kuwait border crossings.
Approximate costs of moving furniture from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait
We checked what other movers on the Kuwait route publish from Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah, and set Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices below them. Each range has two figures: the lower one is where a booking for the smallest load of that kind begins, and the higher one is what larger homes, heavier packing or high-floor loading typically come to.
Note: by road, allow a day or two from the Eastern Province and two or three days out of Riyadh, while Jeddah, Makkah and Taif loads need three to five working days; urgent items sent by air land within 24–72 hours, flights permitting.
Starting price for each part of a home move
Why can two homes with the same number of rooms cost differently? Because volume in cubic metres matters more than the room count. A large Arabic majlis, built-in wardrobes and a marble dining table fill a truck far faster than the light furniture of a modern flat. Floors and lift access at both ends, the number of pieces that need crates, and whether you reserve a truck or share one all move the price too. A city-by-city comparison sits on the page titled shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.

Used furniture and Kuwaiti customs: when is it duty-free?
That depends on who you are and on the condition of the goods. Kuwait adopted the unified GCC customs law through Law No. 10 of 2003. Its Article 103 lets two groups bring personal belongings and second-hand furniture in without duty: Kuwaitis who had been living abroad and are coming back, and expatriates arriving to make Kuwait their home for the first time, on terms laid down by the Director General of Customs. In plain terms, a Kuwaiti coming home from Saudi Arabia and a resident moving to Kuwait for the first time are the people this exemption is written for.
The detailed conditions are set by Kuwait’s General Administration of Customs, so we apply them according to Kuwaiti customs requirements and confirm them for each customer before the truck leaves. What happens in practice is consistent: the exemption covers used personal belongings, while brand-new furniture and appliances are not covered and generally attract 5% of their value, the exception being items made in a GCC state and documented as such. Furniture made in Saudi Arabia that travels with a GCC certificate of origin normally crosses duty-free.
Kuwait charges no VAT
Kuwait has not introduced value added tax, so be wary of anyone adding “5% VAT” to your furniture bill at Nuwaiseeb or Salmi. The only possible customs cost is duty on whatever the exemption does not cover.
Our practical advice: keep new and used items apart on your inventory. Say you picked up a new washer or TV a few days before moving: list it on its own line with its invoice rather than burying it among the cartons, because undeclared new items found during inspection hold up the whole load. The full conditions and edge cases are covered in Kuwait used household goods customs.
Documents required for moving furniture to Kuwait
Paperwork comes in two stages: leaving Saudi Arabia, then entering Kuwait. Before the truck heads for Khafji or Ruqai, we register the load on Fasah and reserve its crossing appointment, which ZATCA requires of every vehicle arriving at a land port. On the Kuwaiti side the clearing agent opens the customs file and submits the exemption documents if you qualify.
Clearing agents in Kuwait advise having the exemption documents ready at least five days before the shipment arrives, because the online authorisation and the document review take time. We collect copies of your papers on WhatsApp while the packing is under way and check them before the truck moves, so a missing page is not discovered at the border. If you have not received your Civil ID yet, tell us early and we will time the shipment, or storage, around it.
How we dismantle and pack each piece for the trip to Kuwait
A move from Riyadh or Jeddah to Kuwait is long and includes loading, unloading and an inspection at the border, so a single layer of stretch film is not enough. We pack according to the type of piece, number every item and carton, and photograph the furniture before dismantling so it goes back together exactly as it was.
Bedrooms and wardrobes
Beds and wardrobes come apart into panels. Fixings are bagged, numbered and taped to their own panel. Panels get a bubble layer, cardboard corner guards and tight stretch film; mirrors are removed and stand upright in their own frame. That is what makes assembly in Kuwait quick, with nothing missing.
Sofas, majlis seating and rugs
Sofas are first covered in cloth or soft paper so the plastic film does not stick to the fabric in the heat of the road, then wrapped. Majlis cushions are folded and tied. Rugs are cleaned of dust, rolled on a tube and sealed in moisture-resistant film; a valuable handmade carpet is handled as a separate item and described clearly on the list.
Marble, glass and antiques: wooden crates
Marble table tops, glass tables, chandeliers and antiques do not travel in cartons. We build pine crates lined with foam to the size of each piece, so it survives the vibration of a long road and loading by forklift.

Kitchens, air conditioners and appliances
Aluminium, wooden and flat-pack kitchens are taken apart unit by unit, with doors and shelves numbered; a marble or stone worktop goes into a crate. Window and split air conditioners have their gas recovered into the unit before disconnection so they are not damaged, and the outdoor unit is boxed in heavy cardboard. Washing-machine drums are locked, and fridges are emptied and dried the day before loading. Large televisions travel upright in purpose-made boxes, never flat.
We photograph everything first
Every room and every piece is photographed before it is dismantled, and the photos are sent to you. They are our reference for assembly in Kuwait and yours for comparing each item’s condition before and after the trip.
Loading day: a dedicated truck or space in a shared one?
For whole homes the first choice is a dyna or truck reserved for you alone. It is loaded at your door and drives straight to Kuwait, with no waiting for other customers and no transfers between trucks. It suits full apartments and villas, and anyone who needs a firm arrival date. The second option is a shared load: your furniture takes its space in a truck carrying other customers’ goods to Kuwait. You pay only for your volume, but consolidation and drop-offs can add a couple of days.
For large houses we use a 15-metre trailer that takes the contents of a villa; for a single room or a few pieces, the shared truck is enough. In apartment buildings we ask you to book the lift with the caretaker or management, and for villas we agree in advance where the truck will park, because some residential streets in Riyadh and Jeddah are too narrow for a trailer and a small dyna shuttles the load to it.

Heavy pieces go in first at the back of the truck, followed by heavy cartons and then light ones on top, all strapped to the side rails. A small “first night” box with bedding, basic kitchenware and chargers is loaded last so it is the first thing off the truck in Kuwait.
How long does furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait take?
Door to door, the time is the packing and loading day, plus the road, plus a few hours at the border, plus delivery. From Dammam one to two days are enough. From Riyadh it is two to three days in a dedicated truck, or three to five in a shared one. Jeddah, Makkah, Taif and Madinah need three to five working days, and Tabuk roughly four to six. A typical timeline for a Riyadh home looks like this:
Queues at both crossings usually lengthen on Thursday and Friday evenings, around holidays and Eid, and on sandstorm days. When your schedule allows, we prefer the truck to reach the border on a weekday morning.
Delivery and assembly across Kuwait’s governorates
We deliver to your door in every governorate, assemble bedrooms and kitchens, hang mirrors and curtains on request, and take the packing materials away afterwards. The nearest crossing depends on where you are going:

In residential towers in Kuwait City and Salmiya, building management often sets moving hours and requires the lift to be booked. Give us the tower name and floor, and we coordinate with the recipient before the truck arrives so your furniture does not sit in the street for hours.
Moving your car with your furniture
Many families move the car in the same week as the house. It never shares the furniture truck. A multi-car carrier takes a sedan from SAR 1,100, a hydraulic flatbed from SAR 1,660; family SUVs get their own hydraulic flatbed from SAR 1,840, and luxury cars an enclosed transporter from SAR 3,220. Kuwait only admits cars within 10 years of their manufacture year, and the newer the car, the smoother its clearance. Customs duty is 5%, with credit for duty already paid inside the GCC depending on the case, followed by inspection and registration with Kuwaiti traffic. Before it leaves the Kingdom, the car needs export papers and export plates, any traffic fines settled, and a release letter from the lender if it is still financed. The full car checklist, step by step: car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.
Air freight for urgent belongings to Kuwait
Not everything in a home can wait for the truck. Clothes for the first days, school records and work equipment can fly ahead of you. Air freight to Kuwait International Airport is available from Riyadh (about 1 hour 20 minutes in the air), Dammam (about an hour), Jeddah (about two hours), Madinah and Taif. We confirm the flight schedule and available space when you book, and shipments usually arrive within 24–72 hours depending on flights. Airlines bill on whichever is higher, real or volumetric weight, so message us the weight and box sizes on WhatsApp and we will price it.

If direct flight times to Kuwait do not suit you, there is a fast practical alternative: urgent cartons fly to Dammam and continue by road through Khafji, usually within a day. We do not recommend flying a whole household, since it costs several times the road option and the drive from the Eastern Province takes only a day or two. Our air cargo guide goes deeper: air freight from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.
Storing furniture before shipping or after arrival
Sometimes your Saudi lease ends before your Kuwaiti home is ready, or you are waiting for your Civil ID before applying for the exemption. In that case we pack the furniture and keep it in a closed warehouse until the shipping date, then load it straight from storage. Storage is charged by the week according to volume and agreed together with the moving price. Please do not store food or anything perishable with your furniture.
What must not go in a furniture shipment to Kuwait
A furniture truck goes through customs inspection, and a single banned item in one carton can hold up the entire load. The main items Kuwait prohibits are:
- pork products, alcoholic drinks and equipment for making them
- gambling machines, pornographic material and narcotics
- used medical equipment
- walkie-talkies and radio transmitters, firearms and ammunition, even antique weapons
- goods connected with or made in Israel
- cars more than 10 years old without prior approval
A second group is allowed only under conditions. Medicines require clearance from the Ministry of Health; printed and recorded media can be reviewed by censors; and pets, which travel separately rather than in the furniture truck, must have a health certificate. We do not accept loose lithium batteries, gas cylinders or flammable materials in household cartons. These are the main restrictions; if you are unsure about a particular item, we check it with you before packing.
Office, clinic and company relocations
We do not only move homes. We relocate company offices, shop fittings and clinic furniture from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait: desks, chairs, storage units, filing cabinets and archives, numbered against the new office plan so everything goes back in its place. One important point: used medical equipment may not be imported into Kuwait, so if a clinic is moving devices we review them together before shipping. New office furniture is treated as commercial goods and needs an invoice and a certificate of origin.
How to reduce the cost of moving your furniture to Kuwait
- Leave heavy, cheap items behind: anything that costs as much to ship as to buy again in Kuwait, such as old flat-pack wardrobes or worn mattresses, is not worth moving.
- Choose a shared truck for one or two rooms if you are not in a hurry.
- Pack your own cartons before loading day to cut the crew’s hours, and leave the large and fragile pieces to us.
- Avoid peak season: the end of the school year and Eid push up demand for trucks, and booking early gets you a better date.
- Take the all-in package instead of buying services one by one; it starts at SAR 1,840 and covers survey, packing, shipping, clearance and assembly.
Mistakes that delay furniture at Nuwaiseeb or Salmi
- An inventory that just says “household items” rather than listing each carton and what is inside.
- New items hidden among used furniture without an invoice.
- Medicines or electronics packed in furniture cartons without being declared.
- Shipping before the Kuwaiti exemption documents are ready, so the truck waits at the border.
- Trusting a carrier that promises a crossing that does not exist or a blanket exemption for everything.
