Looking for a shipping company from Riyadh to Kuwait? Gulf International Shipping collects your furniture, car, cartons or stock from your Riyadh district and hands them over at the receiver’s door in Kuwait within 2–3 days on a dedicated truck, or 3–5 days on a shared (groupage) load. Our trucks head north through Al Majmaah and Hafr Al-Batin to the Saudi Ruqai crossing, then enter Kuwait at the Salmi crossing in Al Jahra Governorate. At Gulf International Shipping, personal-belongings cartons begin at SAR 138, complete bedrooms at SAR 1,660 and a three-bedroom flat’s furniture at SAR 3,230, while moving a sedan on a shared transporter starts at SAR 1,100.
This guide is for Riyadh residents moving a home, a car or business stock to Kuwait who want the essentials before they pick up the phone: which border post the load uses, how many days it needs, what it costs and which papers each side asks for. The sections follow the shipment itself, from your front door in Riyadh, up the northern highway, through the two border posts and on to the Kuwaiti governorate where your receiver is waiting.

Which border crossing does a Riyadh shipment use to reach Kuwait?
Only two land crossings between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait handle trucks. One is coastal: Khafji on the Saudi side, facing Nuwaiseeb in Kuwait, which suits loads from Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa because it sits on their coastal road. The other is inland: Ruqai in Hafr Al-Batin Governorate, facing Kuwait’s Salmi crossing. Riyadh shipments use the inland pair, because the road runs straight north from the capital through Al Majmaah and Hafr Al-Batin, with no detour east to Dammam that would add hundreds of kilometres.
We spell this out because some published pages get the crossings wrong. A few name “Abdali”, which is Kuwait’s crossing with Iraq, not Saudi Arabia; others draw the Riyadh route through Dammam and then on to Ruqai, which makes no geographic sense. At Gulf International Shipping we fix the crossing before loading and record it in the shipment data, so you know where your truck is at every stage.
The new Ruqai crossing is a large facility built for truck traffic, with a stated capacity of around 2,000 trucks and 12,000 vehicles a day and a construction cost of more than SAR 1.6 billion. Clearance there is usually orderly, but queues can build late in the week, on Thursday and Friday nights, in the run-up to holidays and when dust storms blow, so we time the truck’s arrival away from peak hours wherever we can.

When do we use Khafji instead of Ruqai?
If your receiver is in Kuwait’s coastal south, such as Fahaheel, Mangaf or Wafra, and your load is small enough to be consolidated with Eastern Province cargo in Dammam, it may cross at Khafji into Nuwaiseeb. We tell you before loading, because the transit time changes slightly.
Approximate shipping prices from Riyadh to Kuwait
Below are the figures bookings start from at Gulf International Shipping on the Riyadh–Kuwait lane. We checked what other Riyadh shipping companies publish for this same route and set our starting figure below the lowest published price. Read each cell as a range: the lower figure is where booking starts, the higher one the typical top end for bigger or awkward loads.
Note: by road, Riyadh to Kuwait usually takes 2–3 days on a dedicated truck and 3–5 days on a shared load, varying with the governorate and clearance; by air, allow one to three days door to door, subject to flights.
Starting price for each item
Shipping only a few things? Here are the “from” prices item by item. All of them include road transport from Riyadh to the agreed city in Kuwait:
The difference between the bedroom rate and the all-inclusive package is scope. The bedroom rate covers dismantling, wrapping and transport; the package starts with a survey of your Riyadh home and ends with your furniture reassembled in Kuwait, with customs handled along the way. For cars, the type of carrier moves the price more than the distance does, because a private flatbed or enclosed carrier carries your car alone or with very few others.
Your shipment from Riyadh to Kuwait, day by day
The question Riyadh customers ask most is: “If you load today, when do I receive it?” The table below shows the usual path of a furniture shipment on a dedicated truck. A shared load adds a day or two while the truck fills up.
The step most people overlook is the crossing appointment. A decision by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) requires the carrier to book a slot on Fasah ahead of any land customs port and to turn up close to that time. So we reserve the crossing and file the load’s data on Fasah in advance, and the truck reaches Ruqai with its slot already fixed. It is part of our service, and you never need to deal with the platform yourself.
Moving household furniture from Riyadh to Kuwait
Most Riyadh shipments bound for Kuwait are whole households: families relocating for work, or returning home. The Riyadh home might be a tower apartment in Al Malqa or An Narjis, a villa in Al Yasmin, Hittin or Ar Rawdah, or a floor in an older neighbourhood such as Al Suwaidi or An Naseem. Each needs its own loading plan. Towers mean booking the lift and protecting corridors, villas bring large majlis sets and built-in wardrobes, and narrow streets may need a small dyna truck to shuttle items to the big truck.
How we prepare furniture for a 700 km trip
- Dismantle and number: beds, wardrobes and tables come apart, every piece gets a number, and its fixings are bagged and labelled with the same number.
- Wrap in layers: bubble wrap for glossy surfaces, corrugated card on the corners, then a moving blanket or stretch film on heavy pieces.
- Kitchens: IKEA and wooden kitchens come apart unit by unit, with doors and stone worktops wrapped separately.
- Air conditioners: we recover the refrigerant before removal and cap the pipes, because a unit taken down without this loses its gas and can ruin the compressor.
- Screens and glass: large TVs, mirrors and glass tables can go in wooden crates on request.
- Carpets and soft furnishings: carpets are rolled on a tube and sealed in plastic so the dust of the Hafr Al-Batin road never reaches them.
- Photo inventory: every piece is photographed before loading, and you keep a numbered list for checking on arrival.
In Kuwait the crew reassembles bedrooms and wardrobes by number and installs appliances that need simple fitting. If your Kuwait home is not ready yet, we can store the furniture in Riyadh before shipping for an agreed period and load it on the date that suits you. For the customs exemption and packing in more depth, our guide on furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait has the details.
Short on time? Take the all-inclusive package
If you are flying out before your furniture, the package from SAR 1,840 puts the survey, packing, loading, customs and reassembly in our hands. All you need in Kuwait is someone to open the door and sign the list.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Kuwait
Cars go from Riyadh to Kuwait by road on car carriers, and the price depends on the carrier type. An open shared carrier takes several cars and is the cheapest option. With a private flatbed your car travels by itself, which suits lowered or non-running vehicles. A hydraulic flatbed or enclosed carrier is for luxury and sports cars that should stay clear of dust and stone chips.
Car paperwork in Riyadh before shipping
If the car will stay in Kuwait for good, it is a final export, and the owner usually needs: the registration card (istimara), the owner’s ID or iqama, an export certificate from the traffic department with export plates, proof that traffic fines are settled, and an electronic authorisation through Absher for whoever handles the formalities. The export declaration is then filed on Fasah with the chassis number matched. A bank-financed car needs the bank’s release letter before any of this. If the car will come back to Saudi Arabia, the route is different: temporary entry with a valid registration, a current inspection, a carnet (triptyque) and insurance that covers Kuwait.
Kuwait’s rules for importing a car
- Age: the car should be under 10 years old, counted from its year of manufacture, and newer cars clear more easily. Some older guides still say 5 years, so we check before shipping.
- Refused: right-hand-drive, rebuilt, flood-damaged and badly accident-damaged cars.
- Duty: 5% of the car’s value with no VAT; duty already paid in another GCC country may be credited if the car first entered the Gulf recently.
- Conformity and registration: customs inspection and a VIN check, then conformity approval from the Public Authority for Industry, then registration with Kuwait’s traffic department.
- Who imports: the importer usually needs to be Kuwaiti or hold a permit from the Ministry of Commerce, so residents should confirm before shipping.
Before loading we ask for no more than a quarter tank of fuel, no personal belongings left inside, and an EV battery charged to between 30% and 50%. We then video the car from every side in front of you. Every export and import step is explained on our page car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.
Shipping cartons and personal items from Riyadh
Not everyone shipping to Kuwait is moving house. Many of our Riyadh customers send a few cartons of clothes and books, a suitcase for a son studying there, or gifts for family. Small loads like these travel together on a shared truck. At Gulf International Shipping they start from SAR 138 per carton, SAR 184 per suitcase and SAR 460 for a small mixed shipment. Please seal cartons well and write a short contents list on each one, because customs may open them for inspection.
Weights, sizes and packing tips for small shipments are in a separate guide: cartons and parcels shipping to Kuwait.
Commercial freight from Riyadh: part load or full truck
Riyadh is the biggest source of Saudi goods heading to Kuwait, from warehouses in the Second and Third Industrial Cities and in Al Sulay and Al Manakh to wholesale shops in Al Aziziyah. Each volume has its own option:
- By weight: for commercial quantities that do not fill a truck, from SAR 2.75 per kg.
- Pallet (LCL): goods stacked on one or more pallets on a shared truck, from SAR 550 per pallet.
- Full truck (FTL): a six-wheeler or trailer reserved for your cargo only, departing the moment loading ends and arriving sooner; a 15 m trailer starts from SAR 4,140.
- Chilled cargo: dates, food and licensed medicines can go in a refrigerated truck on request, priced by quantity and required temperature.
Kuwait rarely charges duty on goods manufactured in Saudi Arabia, provided a GCC origin certificate travels with them. Foreign-made stock typically attracts 5%, but the GCC duty-transfer system (al-muqassa) means you should not pay twice when duty was already settled in Saudi Arabia and the paperwork is in order. Containers, invoices and duty transfers have their own guide: goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.

Air freight from Riyadh to Kuwait
The flight from King Khalid International Airport to Kuwait International Airport takes about 1 hour 20 minutes over roughly 490 km. Add door collection, clearance and delivery in Kuwait, and door-to-door air transit usually runs from one to three days, depending on the flights available. Airlines bill the heavier of the scale weight and the dimensional weight, so we price each shipment individually: send the weight and dimensions on WhatsApp and ask for your rate.
Air suits documents, samples, urgent spare parts and small high-value devices. Furniture, cars and heavy goods belong on the road, because a truck from Riyadh arrives in two or three days for far less. Flight schedules and available space are confirmed at the time of booking. If there is no space on a direct flight when you need it, we offer two alternatives: a dedicated truck straight from Riyadh, or air to Dammam and then road via Khafji. Airports, flight times and the combined route are set out on our page about air freight from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait.
For companies moving large commercial containers there is also a sea option on request, from Dammam port to Kuwait’s ports. It is slower than the road for Riyadh cargo, so we only suggest it when the type and size of the goods make it worthwhile.
Customs duty and taxes when your shipment enters Kuwait
Kuwait does not charge VAT at all, so ignore anyone who adds a “5% tax at Nuwaiseeb” or a “variable VAT” to your bill. The one charge you might meet is customs duty: usually 5% on new items manufactured outside the Gulf states, while Saudi-made goods carrying a GCC origin certificate pass free.
Used furniture is a different matter. The legal basis for its exemption is Article 103 of the Gulf customs law in force in Kuwait, which covers two groups: citizens of Kuwait returning after a period of residence abroad, and expatriates taking up Kuwaiti residence for the first time. The exemption carries conditions laid down by Kuwaiti customs, and we check them before anything is loaded. Expect to be asked for your Civil ID, proof of your work permit and an itemised list of belongings. New furniture and appliances are not covered; they generally attract 5% unless made in a GCC country. For the conditions and paperwork in detail, open Kuwait used household goods customs.
Do not mix new and used items without declaring them
If you bought new appliances or furniture in Riyadh before moving, tell us so they are listed separately with their invoice. Hiding them among used belongings can hold up clearance of the whole load at Salmi.
Documents needed to ship from Riyadh to Kuwait
The paperwork depends on what you are sending, and both ends are involved: the sender in Riyadh and the receiver in Kuwait. Having it ready before loading can save a full day at the border:
We go through the documents with you on WhatsApp before loading and flag anything missing before the truck leaves, not when it reaches the border.
What can’t you ship from Riyadh to Kuwait?
These are the main items Kuwaiti customs refuses. We go over them with every customer before packing:
- pork and pork products; alcoholic drinks and brewing or distilling kits;
- gambling machines and equipment, pornographic material and narcotics;
- used medical equipment;
- firearms and ammunition, including antique weapons, plus walkie-talkies and radio transmitters;
- goods made in or connected with Israel;
- any car built more than 10 years ago.
Some items are restricted rather than banned: medicines need clearance from Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, pets need a health certificate, and e-cigarettes are allowed only in limited personal quantities, so we do not ship them commercially. We also refuse loose lithium batteries inside furniture loads. Where a case is unclear, we check it individually before loading.
Delivery across Kuwait’s governorates
After the Salmi crossing, Al Jahra is the first governorate the truck reaches, and it then continues to the rest of the country. We deliver in all six governorates; the times below are counted from clearance at Salmi:
If delivery is to a residential tower, tell us the floor and the permitted lift hours in advance, because some towers set fixed times for furniture moves and require advance booking with building management.
We keep you posted throughout: you get a WhatsApp update when the truck leaves Riyadh, when it reaches Ruqai and after clearance at Salmi, and we call the receiver in good time before arrival. Shipment insurance based on declared value can be added at booking, which is worth it for valuable electronics and luxury cars.

What decides the cost of shipping from Riyadh to Kuwait?
The final price depends on several factors. The more of them you cover in your first message, the more accurate the quote:
- Volume and weight: household moves are priced on volume and room count; commercial cargo per kilo or per pallet.
- Truck type: shared loads cost less; a dedicated truck is faster and leaves on your date.
- Packing: standard packing is included; wooden crates for fragile pieces are added per crate.
- Floors and lifts: a high floor without a lift, or a tower with restricted lift hours, adds working time.
- Kuwaiti governorate: Al Jahra and the Capital are closer to Salmi than Al Ahmadi or Wafra.
- Season: demand for trucks peaks when schools break up and before Eid, and border queues lengthen.
A worked example
An employee moves a bedroom and six cartons from Al Yasmin to Al Jahra. The bedroom starts from SAR 1,660 and the six cartons from 6 × 138 = SAR 828, so the shipment starts from SAR 2,488. Add a sedan on a shared transporter (from SAR 1,100) and the starting total becomes SAR 3,588.
Cutting the cost of shipping from Riyadh to Kuwait
- Go groupage: if you are not in a rush, waiting a day or two for a shared truck to fill cuts the cost noticeably.
- Shrink the load before packing: selling bulky old furniture in Riyadh is often cheaper than shipping it, especially worn mattresses and heavy sofas.
- Book everything together: furniture, cartons and the car in one booking cost less than three separate shipments.
- Use a shared carrier for an ordinary car: a private flatbed is only needed for lowered or luxury cars.
- Avoid the peak: booking early, before the end of the school year, saves both time and money.
Mistakes people make when shipping from Riyadh to Kuwait
- Choosing a company that names Abdali or Rafha as a Kuwait border crossing, a sure sign it does not know the route.
- Believing promises of full duty exemption on everything, or paying a VAT charge that does not exist in Kuwait.
- Shipping a car older than 10 years without checking, only for it to be turned back at Salmi after a 700 km trip.
- Leaving air conditioners with their gas in, or personal belongings inside a car being shipped.
- Forgetting the invoices for new appliances, which can delay clearance of the whole load.
- Not telling the mover that the Kuwait home is in a tower with fixed lift hours.
Do you ship from Kuwait to Riyadh?
Many families move in both directions, so we also arrange return shipments from Kuwait to Riyadh on request, along the same road through Salmi and then Ruqai. The paperwork is different, because this time the load enters Saudi Arabia and goes through Saudi customs, so we send you the list when you book.
Covering every Riyadh district and town
We collect from every part of Riyadh: the north, including Al Malqa, An Narjis, Al Yasmin, Hittin and Al Arid; the east, including An Naseem, Ar Rawdah, Al Khaleej and An Nahdah; the south, including Ash Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Al Suwaidi and Ad Dar Al Baida; and the industrial zones of Al Sulay, Al Manakh and the Second and Third Industrial Cities. We also collect across the wider Riyadh region: Al Kharj, Diriyah, Al Majmaah, Az Zulfi, Shaqra, Ad Dawadmi, Al Quwayiyah, Afif and Wadi Ad Dawasir. Al Majmaah and Az Zulfi sit on the same northern road, so their loads never need to go back through Riyadh.
