Furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon

Gulf International Shipping handles furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon overland: our crew dismantles and wraps your furniture at your home in the Kingdom, the truck crosses Jordan in transit as far as Jaber, at Nassib our team shifts everything onto a truck cleared for the Syrian leg, and after customs at Masnaa it is delivered to your new address, whether in the Bekaa, Beirut, Mount Lebanon, the North or the South. Door-to-door timing is roughly 5–8 working days when we load in Tabuk, 7–10 in Madinah, 8–12 in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah or Taif, and 9–12 in Dammam. Gulf International Shipping’s starting prices are SAR 920 for a complete bedroom, SAR 1,100 for a living room, SAR 3,680 for a whole home and SAR 184 for a carton up to 20 kg.

Most people who call us about moving to Lebanon are Lebanese families heading home after years in the Kingdom, employees transferred to Beirut, or households furnishing a house in the village who want to take their favourite pieces with them. They all ask the same things: what will it cost, how many days will it take, will the furniture suffer when it is unloaded on the way, and does a returning Lebanese pay customs on household goods? Below, each of those questions gets a straight answer, in the order they come up as you plan.

How much does furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon cost?

The cost of a household move to Lebanon depends mainly on three things: the volume of your furniture in cubic metres, the Saudi city where we load, and the Lebanese area where we deliver. The table below sets out approximate prices the way people search for them. Read each range as the Gulf International Shipping entry price followed by what large homes or far-off loading cities typically reach. Every line is set below what other carriers on the Lebanon route publish for the same item.

Those entry figures apply to loads collected in Tabuk or Madinah, the shortest runs to Lebanon. Loading in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam adds distance and therefore cost, and an address in Akkar or the South costs a little more than one in Zahle or Beirut. For city-by-city figures see shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon.

Where to start: the survey and deciding what to take

Every move to Lebanon starts with a survey, and ours is free. A supervisor can visit your home, or you can walk us through the rooms on a WhatsApp video call. The supervisor counts the pieces, measures the large ones, estimates the total volume in cubic metres and then sends you an itemised price before you commit to anything.

This is also the moment for an honest question: is everything worth moving? Homes in the Kingdom tend to be spacious, while flats in Beirut and Mount Lebanon are smaller and the stairwells in older buildings are narrow. The huge sofa that fills your majlis here may not fit through the door of your flat there, and a six-door wardrobe may not find a wall wide enough. If you can, send us the room and doorway measurements of the Lebanese home so we can compare them with your furniture before loading.

  • Move what is hard to replace: good solid wood, hand-made rugs, antiques and the bedroom set you chose with care.
  • Think twice about old appliances: the freight on a decade-old fridge may approach what a new one costs in a Beirut showroom.
  • Sell large pieces that will not fit: you will get a better price for them here than you would pay to store them there.
  • Leave new purchases out of an exempt move: if you are returning for good, unused new items are charged duty, so buying them in Lebanon may be simpler.

How does furniture travel from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon?

Saudi Arabia and Lebanon share no land border, so the road passes through two countries before arrival. The starting point depends on your city. Loads from Riyadh, Qassim and the Eastern Province exit the Kingdom at the Al-Haditha border post into Jordan’s Al-Omari; loads from the west and north-west of the Kingdom normally use Halat Ammar, opposite Jordan’s Al-Mudawwara. The truck then crosses Jordan in transit, without unloading, up to Jaber on its northern border.

That is where the truck changes. A truck from the Kingdom is not currently allowed to drive on into Syria, so at the Nassib customs yard our team transfers the furniture to a truck licensed for the Syrian leg. It passes Damascus, reaches Jdeidet Yabous and enters Lebanon through Masnaa, the commercial crossing between the two countries, where Lebanese customs inspect and clear it. Bekaa addresses are served first after Masnaa; Beirut and Mount Lebanon come next, and the North and South last.

Masnaa is open every day for long hours. We reserve the truck’s crossing slot ahead of arrival and review conditions at all three borders before any departure. Waiting times at Jaber, Nassib and Masnaa vary from week to week, which is why the times in this guide are given as a range rather than a single day. For more on this leg of the journey see the Masnaa border crossing to Lebanon.

Packing built for the Nassib transfer and mountain roads

Furniture bound for Lebanon is handled at least twice before it arrives: at your home in the Kingdom and again in the Nassib yard. Many Lebanese homes also sit on mountain roads with tight bends and long climbs. So we pack for the whole journey, not just the first lift: each piece is wrapped so it can be carried again without coming undone, and each carton carries a number and short description matching the inventory, so the crew at Nassib knows what it is holding and the customs officer at Masnaa knows what to open.

ItemHow we pack it
Wood (beds, wardrobes, tables)Fully dismantled, moving blankets, heavy-duty film and card corner guards
Sofas and majlis seatingBubble wrap under a fabric cover; legs removed and bagged with a number
Marble, glass and mirrorsFoam-lined wooden crate, always carried upright
Chandeliers and ornamentsEach piece in white paper inside a divided carton marked fragile
Large appliancesMoving parts secured; full wrap that lets one end be opened for inspection
RugsRolled around a tube, then sealed in film against dust and damp
Screws and small fittingsNumbered bags taped to the piece itself, never in a separate carton

Valuable pieces are photographed before they are wrapped, and the pictures reach you along with the inventory. They help when you check your delivery in Lebanon and if you ever need to make an insurance claim. Heavy cartons go at the bottom of the truck, glass and ornaments at the front away from the doors, and the load is strapped so nothing shifts on the bends.

Moving bedrooms, kitchens, majlis seating and appliances to Lebanon

Bedrooms and wardrobes

We take apart the bed, wardrobe and dressing table, number each part by position and pack the mirror in its own crate. Wardrobes with sliding doors are delicate: the runners deform easily, so the doors come off and travel in their own wrapping. During reassembly in Lebanon every part goes back by the same numbers, so nobody spends hours hunting for screws.

The kitchen

Kitchen cabinets in the Kingdom are often fixed to the walls and made to measure for the room. We suggest moving them only if the Lebanese kitchen has similar dimensions, or if the cabinets are good wood worth adapting. If you decide to take them, we dismantle them unit by unit, protect worktops and marble in crates and number each unit by its place. Crockery and utensils are wrapped piece by piece and packed in small cartons of no more than 20 kg.

Majlis seating, sofas and rugs

Arabic majlis seating with its back cushions is light but bulky, so we compress it into tight covers to reduce its volume in the truck. Large sofas have their legs and, where possible, their backs removed. Hand-knotted rugs travel rolled; a fold leaves a crease that may never relax.

Appliances and air conditioners

Unplug the fridge and leave its door open for a full day before loading so it dries out. If you kept the shipping bolts for the washing machine, we refit them to lock the drum. A split air conditioner needs a technician to pump the gas back into the outdoor unit before the pipes are disconnected, which our team handles. Televisions travel in their original box if you kept it, or in a padded crate. Remember that a new appliance still in its box is not covered by the returnee exemption and will be charged at Masnaa.

Loading from apartment buildings and villas in Saudi Arabia

Moving day starts before the truck arrives. If you live in an apartment building we need to know the floor, whether the lift is big enough for large pieces and whether the landlord allows an external lift from the balcony. An external lift saves hours on the stairs and protects both the walls and the furniture from scrapes. At a villa we need a spot near the door where the truck can park.

Loading Lebanon furniture by external lift

The Gulf International Shipping crew usually finishes an average three-bedroom home in one working day and larger homes in two. On the last day we hand you a signed copy of the numbered inventory and tell you when the truck will leave the Saudi border post.

Customs exemption for a returning Lebanese household

A Lebanese citizen who comes home to stay can bring used household goods and personal effects in free of customs duty, once in a lifetime, provided specific conditions are met. That is why planning before loading matters: one missing paper can turn your exempt furniture into a shipment that pays duty and VAT.

ConditionWhat it means for you in practice
More than 3 consecutive years living outside LebanonYour Saudi residence permit and passport stamps prove the period
Permanent return to live in LebanonThe shipment belongs to a returnee who is settling, not a resident sending furniture to the family home
Contents list stamped by the Lebanese embassy in RiyadhWritten and certified before shipping, with an embassy statement confirming residence abroad and return
Goods land within 3 months of your own arrivalWe match the loading date to your travel date so the window is not missed
Items used for more than 6 monthsNew or unused items in their boxes pay duty
A complete household, not scattered piecesSmall, partial lots may be treated as an ordinary shipment
No sale for 3 yearsSelling exempt items before then can lead to a fine
Owner present at clearanceYou are in Lebanon on inspection day, or as customs require

Conditions are confirmed before shipping

These conditions are as published in Lebanese customs guidance and international removals guides, and customs may ask for extra papers in some cases. We review your file with the customs broker in Lebanon before loading and tell you about any missing document while you are still in the Kingdom.

If the conditions do not apply, for example a resident sending furniture to the family home while staying in the Kingdom, the shipment pays customs duty according to the tariff line of each item, plus 11% VAT. Rates vary by item, so a single blanket percentage would be misleading; we estimate the charges once we see the list. New furniture made in Saudi Arabia may be exempt from customs duty with a Saudi certificate of origin under the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, while VAT still applies. The full explanation is in Lebanon used household goods customs.

Documents required for moving furniture to Lebanon

In Saudi Arabia

  • A copy of the owner’s residence permit (iqama) and passport.
  • The numbered inventory, which we write with you after packing.
  • An authorisation for us to complete the export formalities on the Fasah platform.
  • If a car is coming too: its export papers from Absher, handled separately from the furniture.

In Lebanon

  • The original passport showing the last entry stamp.
  • The inventory certified by the Lebanese embassy and its statement on residence abroad and permanent return.
  • A recent family civil-registry extract (ikhraj qaid).
  • A lease or title deed for the home registered with the municipality, and a residence certificate from the mukhtar.
  • An active Lebanese phone number for the receiver and a precise address with the nearest landmark.

Our advice is to start the embassy certification a few days before loading day, because the truck cannot wait at the border for paperwork to catch up, and every day spent in a customs yard has a cost.

Delivery and reassembly in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, the Bekaa, the North and the South

After Masnaa the truck enters the Bekaa first, so Zahle, Chtaura and the West Bekaa receive first. From there the Dahr al-Baidar road leads over the mountains to Beirut and Mount Lebanon, with onward runs to Tripoli and Akkar in the north or Sidon, Tyre and Nabatieh in the south. The table gives approximate times from Riyadh and Jeddah; they are shorter from Tabuk and Madinah.

Furniture assembly in Mount Lebanon

Stone houses in mountain villages have their own challenges: access roads can be narrow, doorways are arched and outside steps are stone. Where the large truck cannot reach the door, we finish the last stretch with a smaller truck or by hand, and we tell you at booking if your address needs it. In older Beirut buildings with small lifts, large pieces go up the stairs after the walls are protected. Once everything is unloaded we reassemble beds, wardrobes and tables and check each piece with you against the inventory.

Can furniture be shipped by sea from Jeddah to Beirut?

Yes. Full containers can sail from Jeddah Islamic Port and discharge at Beirut or Tripoli, with roughly 15–25 days between your door here and your door there. Sea freight suits households with enough furniture to fill a full 20 ft or 40 ft container and no rush to receive it, and it suits traders even more. Most families still choose the road because it is a week or more faster and reaches the door anywhere in Lebanon without an extra haul from the port. A 20 ft container starts from SAR 5,520 and a 40 ft container from SAR 7,360.

Flying the things you need on day one

Your furniture goes overland, yet a handful of things are needed the day you land: school and university files, regular medicines with their prescriptions, work equipment, seasonal clothes and a few kitchen basics. These fly with Middle East Airlines into Beirut from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or Madinah; flying time is around four hours and timetables may shift. Rates begin at SAR 32 a kilo, with delivery to your Lebanese address 3–5 days after collection, subject to flight space and clearance. From Tabuk and Taif, air shipments go via Riyadh or Jeddah.

Urgent boxes by air to Lebanon
A train of air containers loaded with personal cartons heading to the freighter on a Saudi apron

We do not recommend flying the furniture itself, because airlines charge by volumetric weight and a light sofa takes up so much space that it is billed at several times its real weight. Small, heavy cartons, on the other hand, suit air well. Details are in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon.

Storing furniture in Saudi Arabia before you travel

The date you must leave your home in the Kingdom often differs from the date your home in Lebanon is ready. The residence permit or the lease ends while the house over there is still being renovated. We can take your packed, numbered furniture into our closed warehouse and hold it there until you give us a shipping date. Storage is priced by cubic metre and number of weeks, so ask for your quote on 0568829975. Keep the three-month exemption window in mind: if you enter Lebanon before the furniture, time the shipment so it arrives before the window closes.

Your car is not part of the household exemption

The returnee exemption does not cover cars, and Lebanese rules exclude any passenger car older than 8 years, as well as right-hand-drive models. If your car is left-hand drive and 8 years old or newer, it goes on its own carrier from SAR 2,300 for a small model, and Lebanese customs base their charges on its value and year of manufacture. Nothing may be packed inside the car. Details are in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon.

What not to put in a furniture truck to Lebanon

The shipment passes three customs administrations, each with its own list. These are the main prohibited items and things that need care:

  • Gas cylinders, fuel and flammables: not allowed on the truck for safety reasons; empty gas cookers before packing
  • Gas lighters and old cordless phones: on Lebanon’s prohibited list
  • Weapons, ammunition, swords and daggers: prohibited, even as decoration
  • Goods of Israeli origin: banned from entry into Lebanon
  • Motorcycles: we do not load them with furniture because their acceptance in Syrian transit is uncertain
  • Used medical equipment: banned from import into Lebanon
  • Medicines and food: sealed personal quantities only; larger amounts need approval from the relevant ministry
  • Gold, cash and original documents: carry them with you and keep them off the truck

How to estimate the cost of moving your home to Lebanon

The final price is set after the survey, but you can estimate it yourself from these factors:

  • Volume in cubic metres: the basis of the price, which is why light but bulky majlis seating costs more than small heavy cartons
  • Loading city: the closer to Lebanon, the lower the cost, so Tabuk and Madinah are cheaper than Riyadh and Dammam
  • Lebanese area: the Bekaa and Beirut cost less than the North, the South and remote mountain villages
  • Dedicated or shared truck: a dedicated truck is faster; a shared load is cheaper for a few pieces and adds 3–5 days
  • Special packing: wooden crates for marble and glass are added by number
  • Floor and lift: an external lift or carrying to high floors without a lift
  • Insurance: priced on the declared value — ask for your quote

Worked example: take a Madinah household sending one bedroom (SAR 920 and up), a lounge (SAR 1,100 and up), a fridge (SAR 550 and up), a washer (SAR 460 and up) and ten 20 kg cartons (SAR 184 each and up, SAR 1,840 in total). The total starts from about SAR 4,870, and rises if loading is in Riyadh or Dammam or delivery is in Akkar or the South. A whole home in one shipment starts from SAR 3,680, which is usually better value than pricing pieces one by one.

Mistakes that hold up returnees’ furniture at Masnaa

  • Loading before the list is certified: furniture that arrives without a certified inventory is treated as commercial goods.
  • Vague descriptions: “household items” gets every carton opened, while “carton 12: used plates and glasses” speeds up inspection.
  • Mixing new with used: one boxed new appliance among your things can hold the whole shipment while its duty is calculated.
  • Forgetting the three-month window: if you enter Lebanon early and the furniture is late, you may lose the exemption.
  • Adding relatives’ belongings: only your own belongings qualify, so a cousin’s boxes added to your load attract duty.
  • Trusting a company that skips the route: anyone promising a Saudi truck straight to Beirut is not describing reality; the load changes trucks at Nassib, and what matters is who supervises it there.

FAQ

How long does furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon take?

Tabuk loads take about 5–8 working days to the Bekaa and Beirut, Madinah 7–10, Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah and Taif 8–12, and Dammam 9–12.

Does the Saudi truck drive into Lebanon?

No. Its trip ends in the Nassib yard after crossing Jordan; there the furniture is reloaded onto a truck cleared for the Syrian leg to Masnaa, with our crew overseeing the handover.

Are a returning Lebanese person's used household goods duty-free?

Yes, once in a lifetime, after more than 3 consecutive years abroad and a permanent return, with an embassy-certified list, arrival within 3 months of entry and used items; conditions are confirmed before shipping.

What documents are needed to move furniture to Lebanon?

In Saudi Arabia the iqama, passport and numbered inventory; in Lebanon the original passport, the embassy-certified list, a recent civil-registry extract, a municipality-registered lease and a mukhtar certificate.

What is the cheapest way to move furniture to Lebanon?

A shared road load for a few pieces, or a dedicated truck for a whole home from SAR 3,680, and selling bulky pieces that will not fit before you travel.

How much is air freight to Lebanon per kilo?

SAR 32 a kilo upwards, flying into Beirut from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or Madinah and reaching the door 3–5 days after pickup.

Can I move my car with the furniture to Lebanon?

Yes, on its own carrier, if it is left-hand drive and no more than 8 years old; small cars start at SAR 2,300, and the household exemption does not extend to vehicles.

Is there sea freight for furniture from Jeddah to Beirut?

For full containers, yes: Jeddah Islamic Port to Beirut or Tripoli takes around 15–25 days, with a 20 ft box from SAR 5,520.

Do you dismantle, pack and reassemble?

Yes. We dismantle, wrap, number and photograph in Saudi Arabia, then unload, reassemble and check every piece with you in Lebanon.

Do you deliver to mountain villages, the North and the South?

Every Lebanese governorate is covered. Northern and southern addresses take a day or two longer, and a smaller truck handles the last stretch where a large one cannot reach the door.

Can furniture be stored before shipping to Lebanon?

Yes, in a closed warehouse in the Kingdom, priced by cubic metre and number of weeks; ask for your quote on 0568829975.

Is the furniture insured?

Yes. Insurance is priced on the value you declare, and valuable pieces are photographed before loading to record their condition.
