Gulf International Shipping carries shipments from Tabuk to Bahrain by road: household furniture, appliances, cartons, commercial goods, farm produce and cars, from Tabuk’s districts and governorates to the door in Muharraq, Manama, Riffa and the rest of Bahrain, via Hail or Qassim and on through the Eastern Province to the King Fahd Causeway, on a route of about 1,650–1,700 km that takes roughly 4–6 days. Tabuk prices start at SAR 73 to send documents and SAR 92 to send a small parcel, then SAR 1,840 for a complete bedroom, SAR 2,760 for an apartment’s contents and SAR 13.8 a kilo for air freight.
Tabuk is the major Saudi city farthest from Bahrain, and your decisions should start from that fact: belongings spend days on the road, packing has to withstand heat, dust and vibration, and for some shipments air freight or consolidation in another city makes more sense. Tabuk is also one of the few cities with published rates on the Bahrain lane, so our Tabuk prices are calculated against Tabuk’s own figures, not borrowed from another city.
In short
- Usual route: Tabuk → Hail or Qassim → Riyadh or Dammam → Khobar → King Fahd Causeway → Bahrain

A 1,700 km journey: how does a Tabuk shipment cross the Kingdom to the Gulf?
Gulf International Shipping trucks from Tabuk usually head east to Hail, then south-east towards Qassim, and from there either to Riyadh and on to Dammam or straight towards the Eastern Province, depending on the consolidation point and road conditions. Either way, the Saudi leg ends in Khobar, because the King Fahd Causeway starts at Aziziyah just south of it and is the only land route into Bahrain.

In practice a Tabuk shipment crosses the Kingdom from its north-western corner to its east coast. So we don’t treat the Tabuk–Bahrain lane like Jeddah or Riyadh; we plan it around three questions. Is the load big enough for a dedicated truck, or should it join a consolidated one? Where will the truck stop for the driver’s rest? And when must it reach Khobar to make the booked crossing slot?
How many days does a Tabuk shipment need to reach Bahrain?
The usual time is roughly 4–6 days from loading to delivery. Here is an approximate schedule for a furniture load on a shared Gulf International Shipping truck:
A dedicated truck saves about a day, because it doesn’t wait for other shipments or stop to consolidate. Air arrives in about two days but only suits light items.
Approximate shipping prices from Tabuk to Bahrain
Tabuk is one of the few cities for which shipping companies publish Bahrain rates, so Gulf International Shipping based its Tabuk prices on those figures and set them lower. Where nothing is published from Tabuk, we used the Jeddah lane, the nearest city with published prices. The first number is the starting price, the second the usual ceiling for a larger shipment.
Note: road freight from Tabuk to Bahrain takes roughly 4–6 days depending on the truck type and the crossing slot at the King Fahd Causeway; air freight takes about two days depending on connections.
Item price list from Tabuk to Bahrain
Notice that a complete bedroom from Tabuk starts at SAR 1,840 while an apartment’s contents start at SAR 2,760. The bedroom rate is for someone sending one room on its own, dismantled, packed and reassembled; the apartment rate covers a 500–1,000 kg load priced as one space on the truck. The more you send together, the less each piece costs.
Shipping a car from Tabuk: from your door or from a nearer loading point?
Published prices for moving a small car from Tabuk to Bahrain are high, and ours start at SAR 7,360 from your door. The reason is that few car carriers run from Tabuk towards Bahrain, so your car may need an almost dedicated carrier for 1,700 km. That is why we offer Tabuk customers a much cheaper option: if you are driving to Riyadh or Jeddah anyway, or can get the car to our loading point there, it ships at that city’s rates: from SAR 780 on a shared Riyadh carrier for a sedan, or from SAR 1,010 out of Jeddah.
Either way, the car can’t leave the Kingdom for good until Absher has issued its export certificate and plates, its fines are paid and any finance lien is lifted. Bahrain typically accepts cars up to ten years old, left-hand drive and GCC-spec, and generally charges 5% duty plus 10% VAT unless GCC clearing certificates show the duty was settled. To register it there, Bahrain’s Traffic directorate wants proof of export from the Kingdom in one of three forms, the customs certificate, a detailed report, or the final export certificate, plus a year’s insurance and a technical inspection pass. Before you decide
Work out what it costs to drive the car to Riyadh yourself plus the shipping rate from there, and compare it with collection from Tabuk. We send you both figures side by side so you can choose.
Getting a Tabuk home ready for a long haul
Packing that is fine for a move across Tabuk won’t do for a trip to Bahrain. The Gulf International Shipping crew empties wardrobes and drawers, dismantles beds and tables, numbers every part and wraps timber in two layers: bubble film, then reinforced cardboard. Sofas and mattresses go into heavy film that keeps out the dust that can creep in on a long desert road, and glass and mirrors travel upright in braced crates, never flat.

We unplug the fridge a day ahead and dry it completely so no damp or smell builds up on the way, the washing machine drum is locked with its transit bolts, and AC units are removed after the gas is recovered. Heavy items go at the bottom of the box, close to the axles, with lighter ones on top, and every row is secured with tie-down straps so nothing shifts over hundreds of kilometres.
Electronics and medical equipment
From Tabuk, sensitive electronics start at SAR 920 and medical devices at SAR 2,760, because they need special packing and a fixed position in the truck. Keep the device’s original box if you still have it; it is the best protection there is. Since Bahrain generally rejects stand-alone lithium batteries in household loads, take them out of devices where you can and tell us about the rest.
Customs duty and VAT in Bahrain on Tabuk shipments
Bahrain charges 10% VAT, which many people overlook. A new sofa or appliance made outside the GCC usually pays 5% duty, after which 10% VAT is added on the total of its value, freight and duty. For example, new furniture worth SAR 3,000 with shipping pays SAR 150 duty and then SAR 315 VAT, SAR 465 in total. Saudi-made goods escape the duty altogether, provided they carry a GCC certificate of origin.
Someone moving to live in Bahrain brings used furniture in duty-free when it belongs to them and is for their own use, it lands inside the first six months after they arrive, and it is backed by an unexpired residence permit, copies of the CPR card (front and back) and the passport, and a detailed list of contents. Customs inspects these loads, and cars are not covered by the exemption. The conditions in full: Bahrain used household goods customs.
Tabuk commercial goods and farm produce
Much of the Tabuk region is farmland, and its loads to Bahrain include olive oil, olives, vegetables and flowers, alongside shop stock, building materials and equipment. Our Tabuk rates: commercial goods of 500 kg from SAR 4,140, a tonne of industrial kit from SAR 4,600, a modest lot of building materials from SAR 3,680, and a 20-foot container trucked whole from SAR 5,520.
Small quantities of chilled food start at SAR 2,760 because they need refrigerated transport all the way, which we confirm before booking. Paperwork for a trade load means the invoice, packing list, CR copy and GCC origin certificate, and foodstuffs may also need Bahraini health sign-off. A tip for farm owners: olive oil in sealed plastic containers is safer than glass on a road this long. Further reading: goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Air freight from Tabuk to Bahrain
There are no regular nonstop flights between Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport in Tabuk and Bahrain International Airport; available services usually stop at another airport, averaging about 7 hours including the connection. So air freight from Tabuk arrives in about two days door to door, depending on the connection, cargo space and clearance. Routing and timing are confirmed at the moment of booking, since cargo into Bahrain International Airport follows whatever schedules the airlines are flying.
Flying it costs from SAR 13.8 per kg, using the heavier of actual and volumetric weight. From Tabuk it is the sensible choice for documents, samples, personal medicines and small devices, because a light parcel isn’t worth 4–6 days on the road. For example, a 5 kg parcel by air starts at SAR 69. In depth: air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
What does a Tabuk truck need to cross the King Fahd Causeway?
After days on the road, everything comes down to minutes at the causeway. No truck should approach a land port without a Fasah slot; that is a ZATCA requirement. At the causeway specifically, the authority’s trucks page lists two bookings: one for Saudi customs, then its clearance office, and one for Bahraini customs, then theirs. The driver has his passport and licence, the truck’s registration and a notarised authorisation from the owner, and we get the crossing insurance from the JESR app or the insurer’s desk on site.
Because Tabuk’s commercial loads can be heavy, building materials and equipment for instance, here are the gross weight limits the causeway publishes:
Every overloaded axle costs SAR 300, as does every tonne (or fraction) beyond the permitted weight, and a truck past the maximum may be sent back the way it came. That is why Gulf International Shipping picks the right truck for your cargo’s weight from Tabuk, not just the cheapest. Crossing tolls are included in our price. The full guide: King Fahd Causeway truck shipping.
Collection from Tabuk districts and the region’s governorates
The Gulf International Shipping crew collects from every Tabuk district, including Al-Muruj, Al-Sulaimaniyah, Al-Rayyan, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Mahrajan, Al-Rawdah, Al-Aziziyah, Al-Qadisiyah, Al-Nakheel and Al-Safa, as well as from farms and country houses around the city. Further afield, Duba, Tayma, Umluj, Al-Wajh, Haql and Al-Bad’ are covered on a date we agree, and may group a governorate’s shipments on a single day to cut the cost.
Delivery in Muharraq, Manama and the rest of Bahrain
From Al-Jasra, where the causeway ends, the truck seldom needs more than an hour to reach any Bahraini address. Delivery areas by governorate:

Old Muharraq houses sit in lanes the truck can’t enter, so we cover the final stretch with hand trolleys or a small vehicle, and carry large pieces through narrow wooden doorways after dismantling them. In Salman Industrial City in Hidd, we deliver commercial goods to warehouses by appointment.
Documents required for shipping from Tabuk to Bahrain
What Bahrain won’t let in from Tabuk
Bahrain’s customs ban list covers every narcotic (CBD oil among them), second-hand or remoulded tyres, farmed pearls, small remote-control aircraft, pellet-firing toy guns, any print or image offensive to religion or public taste, asbestos, ivory and rhino horn, and weapons, decorative swords and daggers included. Some things enter only with a permit: medicines, meat and poultry, radio transmitters and satellite receivers. Watch out too for the desert-trip gear common in Tabuk: gas cylinders and fuel can’t travel with your belongings.
How to work out the cost from Tabuk, and the cheapest way to ship
The price depends on volume or weight, the truck type, dismantling and packing, the pickup point in the city or a distant governorate, the floor in Tabuk and in Bahrain, and the delivery area. Example: a family in Al-Muruj sends a complete bedroom (SAR 1,840), a fridge (SAR 1,100), a washing machine (SAR 365) and twenty medium cartons (SAR 3,680 at SAR 184 each). Priced separately that is SAR 6,985, while the whole home is usually priced as one load, closer to the apartment rate that starts at SAR 2,760, depending on the actual volume.
- Ship everything at once: a single piece from Tabuk costs far more than its share of a combined load.
- Go shared: when time isn’t pressing, a shared truck wins on price by a long way.
- Ship less: heavy old furniture can cost more to move 1,700 km than it is worth.
- Use a nearer loading point for the car: Riyadh or Jeddah can save you thousands of riyals.
- Send light items by air: documents and small parcels arrive faster at a reasonable cost.
Mistakes we see on long Tabuk shipments
- Wrapping furniture in blankets only, as for a local move, so it arrives scratched after 1,700 km.
- Shipping a fridge that wasn’t dried, so it arrives damp and smelly.
- Packing olive oil in glass bottles without protection.
- Booking door collection of a car in Tabuk without comparing it with handover in Riyadh.
- Forgetting the 10% VAT on new appliances when budgeting.
- Leaving a gas cylinder or camping gear with fuel among the belongings.
