As a shipping company from Madinah to Bahrain, Gulf International Shipping moves Madinah dates and food products, appliances, furniture, cars and parcels from your home, farm or shop to the receiver’s address anywhere in Bahrain, by road via Qassim and the Eastern Province, crossing on the King Fahd Causeway. The journey runs to about 1,200–1,300 km and usually takes 3–5 days. Our prices start at SAR 46 for a small parcel, SAR 92 for a ten-kilo carton, SAR 230 for a large carton of dates or food up to 50 kg, SAR 1,010 for a sedan and SAR 2,760 for a full household.
The Madinah line differs from the other Hejaz routes to Bahrain in two ways. First, the cargo: a large share is dates, food and gifts, not just furniture. Second, the road: the truck goes nowhere near Jeddah or Makkah, heading north-east to Qassim instead, then either south to Riyadh or straight on to the Eastern Province. This guide follows that logic: dates and food first, then prices, the road and its timing, preparing the house, Bahraini taxes, air freight, cars and paperwork, and finally delivery to Bahrain’s islands and residential compounds.
In short
- Route: Madinah → Qassim → Riyadh or directly east → Dammam and Khobar → King Fahd Causeway → Bahrain
- Distance: about 1,200–1,300 km depending on the road and pickup point
- Road transit: 3–5 days from collection in Madinah to delivery in Bahrain, with causeway queues and the Fasah appointment setting the pace

- Starting prices: parcel SAR 46, small carton SAR 92, large carton SAR 230, large fridge SAR 735, sedan SAR 1,010, full household SAR 2,760

Shipping Madinah dates and food to Bahrain
Ajwa, Anbara, Safawi, Rothana and Madinah’s other dates are a gift many Bahraini families look forward to, and shops and cafés there order them in commercial quantities. We ship dates in two ways: small personal cartons added to a shared truck, and trade orders on pallets or a full truck.
Pressed dates in sealed packs handle the road well, but fresh rutab needs chilling and a quicker trip, so we arrange refrigerated transport for it in advance and price it by quantity. Date cartons are stowed away from the truck’s hot side walls, stacked on pallets rather than directly on the floor, and kept apart from perfumes and cleaning products so they don’t pick up odours.
Anything produced in Saudi Arabia, dates and factory goods alike, is spared Bahraini customs duty if it travels with a GCC origin certificate. Many basic food items are also zero-rated for Bahraini VAT. Meat and poultry, however, are restricted and need health and halal certificates, and Bahraini authorities may ask for further documents for commercial food; we check them with you before shipping.
Approximate shipping prices from Madinah to Bahrain
We found no carrier publishing prices specifically for Madinah–Bahrain, so Gulf International Shipping uses the nearest city with published rates on this route, Jeddah, and pitches every opening price under the cheapest rate advertised there. The lower number in each cell is our starting price; the higher one is the usual ceiling for larger or more awkward loads.
Note: road shipments from Madinah to Bahrain usually arrive within 3–5 days depending on King Fahd Causeway traffic and the Fasah slot, and air shipments within 24–48 hours depending on flights and clearance.

The road from Madinah to Bahrain: Qassim, then the Eastern Province
Route planners estimate the drive from Madinah to Manama at about 1,280 km, a figure that shifts with the road taken, which is why our quotes say 1,200–1,300 km. Trucks normally leave Madinah on the Qassim road, passing Buraidah and Unaizah, then take one of two directions: south to Riyadh and the Riyadh–Dammam expressway, or east straight towards the Eastern Province. We choose according to the other consignments on a shared truck and road conditions on the day.
In Dammam the truck works through the expressway interchanges towards Khobar, then Aziziyah, where the King Fahd Causeway starts. Saudi formalities are handled on the western half of Passport Island and Bahraini formalities on the eastern half, before the truck lands at Al Jasra on the western edge of Manama.

Madinah shipments have one small advantage: the road runs through Qassim, so a small consignment can join a load being consolidated there or in Riyadh, rather than waiting for a Madinah-only truck to fill. We collect from every Madinah district, including Quba, Al Awali, Al Aziziyah, Shoran, Al Khalidiyah, Al Difa, Sayed Al Shuhada and Al Jurf, and from the towns of the region: Yanbu, AlUla, Badr, Khaybar, Al Hanakiyah and Al Mahd.
A wrong crossing you may read about
A Madinah shipment to Bahrain doesn’t pass the Salwa crossing, which is the border with Qatar, and there is no second land crossing into Bahrain. The one road in starts at Khobar and crosses the King Fahd Causeway; truck procedures are explained in our causeway guide for truck shipments.
How many days does a Madinah shipment take to reach Bahrain?
Actual transit depends on three things: the type of truck (dedicated or shared), the direction taken after Qassim, and causeway congestion. Here is an approximate timeline for a typical shipment:
Anyone promising one-day delivery from Madinah is ignoring the fact that at least 1,200 km needs two days of driving, plus the driver’s rest hours. If your shipment really is urgent, air is the realistic alternative.
Preparing appliances and furniture in Madinah homes before loading
Many Madinah homes are standalone houses with a courtyard, which makes loading easier because the truck can pull up at the gate. Appliances, though, need more care than furniture on a run of around 1,250 km, because long hours of vibration can harm compressors and motors. So we lock the washing-machine drum with transit bolts, or padding if the bolts are missing, tape fridge doors with tape that leaves no residue, and move fridges upright, never on their side.

A day before loading, we ask you to switch off and empty the fridge and freezer, leave their doors open to dry, and disconnect and drain the washing machine. After delivery, give the fridge some hours upright to settle before it goes back on. Air conditioners are removed by our technicians with the gas recovered, and a technician in Bahrain can refit them if you wish.
Wooden furniture is wrapped in blankets then film; beds and wardrobes are dismantled and their parts numbered; rugs are cleaned of dust and rolled on tubes; mattresses go into sealed bags. Heavy appliances go low in the truck and close to the axles, lighter furniture on top, so the load stays balanced within the weights set by the King Fahd Causeway Authority. Full guidance on household moves is in furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Taxes and customs in Bahrain: when do you pay 5% and 10%?
This is the question our Madinah customers ask most, because Bahrain works differently from its neighbours. In short, there are three cases:
- Used furniture and belongings of someone moving to live in Bahrain: duty-free when they are yours, meant for personal use and delivered no later than six months after you enter Bahrain, backed by the CPR card copied front and back, a current residence permit and a full list of contents
- New non-GCC appliances and furniture: duty of 5%, after which 10% VAT is levied on the total of value, freight and duty
- Saudi or GCC products with a certificate of origin: no customs duty, with VAT applied according to the type of goods
Say you bought a new imported washing machine and air conditioner in Madinah worth SAR 3,000 including freight. Duty at 5% is SAR 150, then VAT at 10% on SAR 3,150 is SAR 315, for roughly SAR 465 payable in total. That’s why we suggest anyone buying new appliances for a Bahraini home compare the after-tax cost with the price of buying them in Bahrain itself.
Inspection is part of the process
Personal shipments are inspected at Bahraini customs, so we number every carton and write its contents in Arabic and English. A fuller explanation is on Bahrain used household goods customs.
Air freight from Madinah to Bahrain
Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah connects to Bahrain on flights listed by Gulf Air and flynas, which may be direct or routed via Riyadh or Jeddah depending on the schedule. Our air rate opens at SAR 13.8 a kilo, applied to real or volumetric weight depending on which is higher, and most air consignments are delivered a day or two after pickup.
Air suits premium date gifts that must arrive for an occasion, official documents and small valuable devices. For large quantities of fresh rutab we compare air with refrigerated road transport and propose whichever suits the price and condition better. Air cargo follows whatever flights are operating, so space and departure are fixed when you book. More on air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Car shipping from Madinah to Bahrain
Car rates run from SAR 920 for a compact and SAR 1,010 for a sedan (shared carrier or covered hydraulic flatbed), through SAR 1,100 for a mid-size sedan and SAR 1,380 for an SUV or EV, up to SAR 1,650 for a van or light truck and SAR 1,840 for a luxury car moved enclosed. Electric cars travel with a moderate battery charge and special tie-downs, and no car carries personal belongings.
For final export you need a Saudi traffic export certificate and export plates once fines are settled, then a declaration on Fasah and a bank release letter if the car is on finance. Bahraini traffic will register the car once it sees proof it left the Kingdom (the detailed report, the customs certificate or the final export certificate), along with a year’s insurance policy and a technical inspection pass.
Bahrain usually caps the age of imported cars at 10 years, with classics possibly accepted on prior approval, and usually left-hand drive and GCC specification; we check your car before shipping. Imported cars pay 5% duty and 10% VAT, and duty paid in Saudi Arabia can be offset using first-entry certificates. Read the dedicated guide: car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Parcels, bags and cartons from Madinah to Bahrain
No shipment is too small: a document or parcel costs from SAR 46, a ten-kilo carton from SAR 92, a mid-size bag from SAR 138 and a carton of up to 50 kg from SAR 230. Students and employees use them for personal things, books and clothes, and families in the two cities use them to swap gifts.
Put a slip with the receiver’s name and mobile number inside each carton and write the same details outside, and don’t send loose lithium batteries or large power banks in personal shipments, as Bahraini customs refuses them. There is a separate page on cartons and parcels shipping to Bahrain.
Commercial shipping from Madinah to Bahrain
For date packers, bakeries and shops in Madinah we offer shared LTL shipping from SAR 780, a half-tonne pallet from SAR 1,010, a full truck from SAR 2,300 and shipping by the tonne from SAR 1,650. For traders we file the declaration on Fasah and follow up with the clearing agent in Bahrain; we need the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and commercial registration.
If the goods were imported from outside the GCC and their duty was paid in Saudi Arabia, keep the first-entry certificates so the duty is credited in Bahrain and not paid twice. Trade shippers can read more on goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Documents required for shipping from Madinah to Bahrain
- Used furniture: the sender’s ID or iqama copy, a detailed inventory (books listed by title) and a clearance authorisation; from the receiver, a CPR card copied on both sides, the Bahraini residence permit and a passport copy.
- Trade dates and food: invoice and GCC certificate of origin, plus health certificates when requested.
- Car: registration card, export certificate and plates, clearance of traffic fines and the owner’s ID.
- Goods: the trader’s invoice and packing list, CR copy and origin certificate.
- Parcels: a copy of ID, a description of contents and the receiver’s details.
Residence permit still in process? A letter from your employer or sponsor may be accepted in the meantime; we confirm this before loading so the shipment doesn’t stall at customs.
What is banned or restricted when shipping to Bahrain?
Items Bahrain refuses outright include drugs (CBD oil among them), secondhand and remoulded tyres, cultured pearls, remote-controlled planes and models, asbestos, toy guns that fire projectiles, rhino horn and ivory, and indecent publications. Medicines, meat and poultry, wireless transmitters and satellite receivers are restricted, as are swords and daggers, even ones hung up for decoration.
We don’t load flammables such as gas cylinders, aerosols or fuel, nor alcohol or commercial quantities of tobacco without permits. Lithium batteries are refused in personal shipments. When in doubt, a quick photo to us before loading settles it.
Delivery to Bahrain’s islands and residential compounds
A good share of our Madinah shipments goes to Bahrain’s modern islands and gated communities: Amwaj and Diyar Al Muharraq in Muharraq Governorate, Durrat Al Bahrain in the south and Reef Island near Manama. These areas have gates and entry systems, so we ask the receiver for the compound name and villa number, arrange the truck’s permit with management before arrival and confirm the permitted unloading hours.

In residential towers in Manama, Seef and Juffair we book the service lift with building management and protect corridors and doors before bringing furniture in. Warehouse deliveries go to Salman Industrial City in Hidd and Bahrain’s other industrial areas.

What makes a Madinah shipment cost more or less?
The price combines the long road haul with the services around your shipment. The main variables:
- Type of cargo: dates and heavy goods by weight; furniture and appliances by volume or per piece
- Refrigeration: chilled food needs a dedicated truck, so it is priced on request
- Truck: shared is cheaper, dedicated is faster
- Services: dismantling and reassembly, AC removal and storage
- Delivery: islands, compounds and towers may need extra time and permits
Example: an employee relocating to Bahrain sends a large fridge, a washing machine, a bedroom set, eight small cartons and two large cartons of dates. At starting prices: fridge SAR 735, washer SAR 365, bedroom SAR 735, eight cartons SAR 736 and the two date cartons SAR 460, a total of about SAR 3,031. Since that is above the full-household package (SAR 2,760), we offer the package if the load fits within it.
Keeping a Madinah–Bahrain shipment cheap
- A shared truck, especially if your shipment can join a load consolidating in Qassim.
- Pressed dates instead of fresh rutab for gifts, as they need no refrigeration.
- Buying new appliances in Bahrain instead of shipping them with 10% VAT and 5% duty, once you have compared both prices.
- Packing small items into cartons of equal size instead of loose pieces.
- Avoiding school holidays and the rutab season, when demand for trucks peaks.
Mistakes people make shipping from Madinah to Bahrain
- Sending fresh rutab in an ordinary truck: it spoils over 1,200 km.
- Packing dates with perfume or detergents: they absorb the smell.
- Laying a fridge down without securing it: the compressor can be damaged.
- Forgetting the certificate of origin for Saudi goods: they are then treated as non-GCC.
- Shipping furniture more than six months after taking up residence: the exemption lapses.
- Not arranging compound access in advance: the truck ends up waiting at the gate.
