Shipping from Taif to Bahrain

Gulf International Shipping ships household furniture, personal belongings, cars and goods from Taif to Bahrain, collecting from the city’s districts and from the heights of Al-Shafa and Al-Hada and delivering to the door in Riffa, Manama, Muharraq and Hamad Town, by road via Riyadh and the Eastern Province and then over the King Fahd Causeway: a trip of about 1,250 km that takes roughly 3–5 working days. Prices on the Taif lane start at SAR 92 a small carton, SAR 640 a wardrobe, SAR 735 a bedroom, SAR 2,760 for an entire household, SAR 1,010 a sedan and SAR 13.8 a kilo by air.

Who ships from Taif to Bahrain? Usually a family following a parent who has started work in Bahrain, an employee finishing a posting in Taif and heading home, or a son sending his parents gifts and Taif produce. Each asks something different: how long, how much, and is there duty to pay? This page answers all three with numbers, and explains what sets a Taif shipment apart: collection from mountain homes, a long road across the whole of Najd, and arrival in a humid country.

The truck’s route from Taif to Bahrain

A Gulf International Shipping truck leaves Taif heading east on the Riyadh highway, dropping from the mountains onto the plains of Najd and passing through or around Riyadh. Beyond Riyadh there are two ways to the east coast: the direct highway to Dammam, or the Khurais road that runs through Al-Ahsa before turning towards Khobar. We choose between them by the load’s consolidation point and traffic on the day, and both end in the same place: Aziziyah, south of Khobar, where the King Fahd Causeway begins.

From Taif via Al-Ahsa to Bahrain
A truck carrying a Taif shipment crosses the Al-Ahsa oasis on its way to Khobar and the King Fahd Causeway

The King Fahd Causeway is the only land crossing into Bahrain. It stretches roughly 25 km across the water to Al-Jasra, on the western side of Manama. So every road shipment from Taif passes through the Eastern Province, whatever the delivery address in Bahrain. Anyone who mentions another crossing, such as Salwa, is describing the road to Qatar, not Bahrain.

How long does shipping from Taif to Bahrain take?

The drive alone takes a loaded truck about two days, with the driver’s mandatory rest hours. Add a day for loading and packing in Taif, then the crossing and delivery in Bahrain. Here are the transit times by shipping method with Gulf International Shipping:

MethodApproximate timeBest forFrom
Shared truck4–5 working daysFurniture and cartons at the lowest costSAR 92 per carton
Dedicated truck3–4 working daysWhole homes and urgent goodsSAR 2,300
Car carrier3–5 working daysSedans, SUVs and luxury carsSAR 1,010
Air freight24–48 hoursDocuments, samples and light giftsSAR 13.8/kg

Three things stretch the timeline most: waiting for a shared truck to fill, causeway congestion during holidays and weekends, and a missing clearance document. We tell you about the first in advance, avoid the second by timing the arrival, and prevent the third by checking the paperwork before loading.

Approximate shipping prices from Taif to Bahrain

Shipping companies don’t publish prices specifically for the Taif–Bahrain lane, so Gulf International Shipping used the prices of the nearest city that has published rates, Jeddah, and set ours below them. In other words, a Taif customer pays the same rates as the Jeddah lane even though the road to Bahrain is slightly shorter.

Collection from Taif’s districts and highlands

The Gulf International Shipping crew covers every Taif district: Al-Shuhada North and South, Al-Hawiyah, Al-Qamariyah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Aziziyah, Al-Sharqiyah, Al-Salamah, Nakhb, Al-Radf, Shihar and more. We also reach the heights of Al-Shafa and Al-Hada and, by arrangement, the outlying governorates of Turabah, Al-Khurmah, Ranyah and Maysan.

Loading Taif consignments for Bahrain
Loading a wrapped carton from the courtyard of a stone house in Al-Shafa onto a Bahrain-bound truck

Homes in Al-Shafa and Al-Hada are a case of their own: winding mountain roads, sometimes narrow entrances, and fog on some mornings. If the road won’t take the big truck to your door, we shuttle the items in a small dyna to a point where loading is easy. We also schedule pickups for clear hours, because loading in fog is slower and the road is riskier for the cargo.

Moving Taif household furniture to Bahrain

Your furniture moves from Taif’s dry, mild climate to Bahrain’s hot, humid one, and that shift affects wood and fabric. The Gulf International Shipping crew wraps timber in bubble film and then reinforced card, puts mattresses and rugs in covers that let a little air through, and protects glass and marble with braced boards. Once it arrives, we suggest unwrapping within a day or two and airing wardrobes before you hang clothes in them.

Majlis seating and big sofas turn up in almost every Taif household we move. They need careful dismantling, every piece numbered, and reassembly in the same order in Bahrain. Air conditioners are removed once the refrigerant is recovered, the outdoor unit goes in a crate, and we recommend having a technician install them in Bahrain, since wiring and walls differ from house to house.

Will you pay customs on your furniture in Bahrain?

If you’re going to live in Bahrain, your used belongings come in duty-free once four things are true: they’re yours and for personal use, they arrive inside six months of your own arrival, your residence permit is current, and you hand in a two-sided copy of your CPR card along with an item-by-item list. Customs opens personal shipments, so a precise list saves hours.

New items are another matter: anything bought new and made outside the GCC typically pays 5% duty, followed by 10% VAT on value, freight and duty together. For example, a new TV worth SAR 2,000 with shipping pays SAR 100 duty and SAR 210 VAT, SAR 310 in all. That is why we ask about new pieces and their invoices before shipping. More in Bahrain used household goods customs.

Shipping a car from Taif to Bahrain

From Taif, a sedan rides a Gulf International Shipping shared carrier from SAR 1,010, SUVs and EVs get a dedicated hydraulic flatbed from SAR 1,380, luxury models travel enclosed from SAR 1,840, and small cars start at SAR 920. A covered flatbed is worth considering for a new car, because the road from Taif to Khobar is long and has sandy stretches.

There are two quite different cases. The first is final export, for someone moving the car to register it in Bahrain: Saudi Traffic, via Absher, provides the export certificate and plates once fines are paid and any bank lien is cleared. Bahrain’s usual expectation is a car of ten years or newer, left-hand drive and built to GCC spec, and it normally levies 5% duty and 10% VAT unless GCC clearing certificates prove the duty was paid in the Kingdom. To register it, you show proof it left the Kingdom (customs certificate, detailed report or final export certificate), a full year of insurance and a passed technical inspection.

The second is temporary entry, for someone who wants to use the car in Bahrain for a limited time and bring it back: it needs valid registration and inspection, Bahrain insurance bought through the JESR app, and a Triptyk carnet for visitors. Tell us which case applies before booking, because the papers and cost differ. Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain lays it all out.

Taif produce: roses, honey and fruit

Many Taif customers send family in Bahrain rose water, rose oil, honey, raisins and dried fruit. Gulf International Shipping carries these in personal quantities in padded cartons, with every glass item wrapped individually. Alcohol-based perfumes in large quantities, however, are treated as flammable goods, and we accept them only after confirming in advance.

Fresh fruit such as pomegranates and grapes won’t survive a 4–5 day trip in a standard truck, and we don’t recommend sending it by road. If you are a trader shipping Taif roses or honey in commercial quantities, the consignment needs a commercial invoice and a GCC certificate of origin to enter duty-free, and foodstuffs can require Bahraini health clearance, which we check with you. Air freight from Taif to Bahrain

Flight schedules from Taif International Airport show services to Bahrain operated by Flynas and Gulf Air, which may be nonstop or with a stop depending on the season. If suitable cargo space isn’t available on Taif flights, Gulf International Shipping sends the shipment from King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, about 170 km away, where flights to Bahrain take around 2 hours 10 minutes. We reserve the space on a suitable flight and confirm it before collection.

Air freight starts at SAR 13.8 per kilo and reaches its recipient in a day or two, flights and clearance permitting. It suits official documents, samples, prescribed personal medicines and small gifts, not furniture or large appliances. For comparison, 10 kilos by air start at SAR 138, the same as a 10–20 kg carton by road. The air freight guide: air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.

What happens at the King Fahd Causeway?

A Taif shipment reaches the causeway after two or three days on the road, and at this point the appointment is everything. A ZATCA decision obliges carriers to reserve a Fasah slot before they reach any land port and to turn up on time, give or take about three hours. On top of that, the causeway authority’s trucks page adds a second Fasah booking for Bahraini customs, so a single trip carries two appointments.

The driver travels with his passport, his licence, the vehicle’s registration card and the owner’s certified authorisation; crossing insurance is purchased in the JESR app or at the insurance counter on the causeway. The causeway sets weight limits by number of axles, with a SAR 300 fee for every overweight tonne and every overweight axle. Gulf International Shipping calculates the load’s weight before it leaves Taif, so weight never becomes a reason to stop the truck. The tolls themselves are part of our price. The full guide is in King Fahd Causeway truck shipping.

Delivery in Riffa and across Bahrain

After Bahraini customs on the eastern side of Passport Island, the truck comes down at Al-Jasra and heads for your address. Riffa, Isa Town and A’ali in the Southern Governorate are about half an hour away, Manama is closer, and Muharraq lies beyond Manama across the bridges.

At villas we need space in front of the gate for the truck to stop; at towers and compounds we book the lift and coordinate with security before arrival. Give us a Bahraini mobile number for someone to receive the shipment if you won’t be there yourself, and we’ll call them an hour before we arrive.

Documents required for shipping from Taif to Bahrain

  • Furniture and personal effects: a copy of your Saudi ID or iqama, your Bahraini residence permit and passport, both faces of your CPR card, and a full inventory in which books are listed by title. No residence permit yet? Mention it early, since a letter from the employer is sometimes accepted instead.
  • Car: registration, plus the export certificate and plates for final export, or insurance and the Triptyk for temporary entry, with fines settled and the owner’s ID or authorisation.
  • Goods and produce: the commercial invoice and packing list, a copy of the CR, a GCC origin certificate for anything made in Saudi Arabia, and health approvals where food is involved.
  • Cartons and parcels: receiver’s name, Bahraini mobile and address, and a short list of what each carton holds.

Items Bahrain won’t accept from Taif

Bahrain’s customs rules keep out a set of goods, chiefly: drugs of any kind (CBD oil included), old or remoulded tyres, farmed pearls, remote-control model planes, children’s guns that fire pellets, books and images that offend religion or decency, asbestos and ivory. Weapons are banned too, including swords and daggers hung as decoration, which are found in some Taif homes, so check for them.

Some goods need a permit first: medicines beyond a personal prescription, meat and poultry backed by health and halal papers, radio transmitters and satellite TV receivers. Lithium batteries not fitted in a device are generally sent back. We confirm each case with you before loading.

Factors behind your Taif shipping price

  • Volume and weight: the biggest factor, which is why we ask for photos or a list before quoting.
  • Shared or dedicated: shared is far cheaper; dedicated is about a day faster.
  • Where the house is: highland homes that need a dyna to shuttle items to the truck add a step to the job.
  • Dismantling, packing and assembly: included in furniture prices, and unnecessary for ready-packed cartons.
  • Floor and lift: both in Taif and in Bahrain.
  • Season: holidays and weekends raise demand and the wait at the causeway.

Example: an employee in Al-Hawiyah sends two wardrobes (SAR 1,280 at SAR 640 each), a double bed (SAR 735) and eight suitcases (SAR 1,104 at SAR 138 each) to Riffa. The single prices total SAR 3,119, and the figure usually drops when we price it as one volume on a shared truck. The cheapest approach is always one combined shipment instead of several, leaving behind what you don’t need, and booking early before the holidays.

Taif shipment mistakes we often see

  • Leaving a decorative sword or dagger among the belongings, which stops the whole shipment at inspection.
  • Packing alcohol-based perfumes, aerosols or batteries in the cartons.
  • Sending fresh fruit by road on a trip of several days.
  • Putting off the furniture shipment until six months have passed since arriving in Bahrain, losing the exemption.
  • Shipping a car without checking its age, specs and acceptance in Bahrain.
  • Booking at the last minute before the holidays, when trucks fill up and the causeway is busy.
