Need a shipping company from Riyadh to Bahrain? Our crew at Gulf International Shipping picks up your furniture, car, cartons or stock in your own Riyadh neighbourhood and hands everything over at the door in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa or any other Bahraini town, by truck across the King Fahd Causeway, the single road connection to the island kingdom. The trip is roughly 450–500 km; a dedicated truck delivers within 24–48 hours and a consolidated load within 2–4 days. At Gulf International Shipping a carton of up to 20 kg starts from SAR 138, a full bedroom on a dedicated dyna from SAR 1,290, sedans ride a shared transporter from SAR 780, and consolidated cargo from SAR 9.2 per kilo.
Riyadh is not the Saudi city closest to Bahrain, yet it is where most of our Bahrain customers start: an employee transferred to an office in Manama, a family heading home to Muharraq, a trader supplying a warehouse in Sitra. They all ask the same things. What will it cost? How many days? What happens on the causeway? Will I pay tax in Bahrain? This page answers each of those with figures, starting with price, because that is what people compare first.

Approximate shipping prices from Riyadh to Bahrain
Before setting our rates we went through what shipping firms publish for this exact Riyadh–Bahrain lane, then set the Gulf International Shipping starting figure about 8% below the lowest published price. In each cell, the first number is where a booking with us starts; the second is the usual ceiling for larger or harder loads, such as upper floors without a lift or items that need wooden crates.
Note: by road from Riyadh, allow 24–48 hours on a dedicated truck and 2–4 days on a consolidated one; by air, one to two days to the door; busy causeway seasons add a little.
Starting price for every item from Riyadh
This list goes into more detail than the table above and helps when you are sending one item or a mix of small things. All figures are in Saudi riyals and cover transport from Riyadh to the address in Bahrain; customs clearance is added to the package according to the shipment type.
To compare every Bahrain lane, from Dammam, Jeddah, Tabuk and the rest, see shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
How long does shipping from Riyadh to Bahrain take?
There is essentially one road. The truck heads east on the Riyadh–Dammam highway for about 400 km into the Eastern Province, drops down to Al Khobar and joins the causeway at Al Aziziyah, south of the city. It then runs 25 km over the sea to the customs island in the middle of the causeway and continues to Al Jasra, west of Manama. Sometimes the truck passes through Al-Ahsa when it is also carrying consolidated loads from there, which adds only a few hours.
Driving alone takes close to five hours without stops. The real transit time hinges on three other things: the appointment reserved for the truck on Fasah, how crowded the causeway is at weekends and on holidays, and which service you chose. Once its doors are shut, a dedicated truck waits for nobody; a consolidated load stays in Riyadh until it is full.

A practical tip: if the receiver in Bahrain needs the furniture on a fixed day, such as a first day at work or a flat handover, book the dedicated truck and ask for a morning loading mid-week. The truck then reaches the causeway before the evening peak, and delivery usually happens the next day.
Your shipment’s journey from a Riyadh district to a Bahrain doorstep
Customers often ask where their shipment is right now. That is why we split the trip into clear stages and send a WhatsApp update at each one. The table below shows the stages, in order, for a furniture load on a dedicated dyna; times are approximate.
Why does causeway time vary between shipments?
A load with complete papers and a clear inventory crosses faster than others. A load with new appliances and no invoices, or a list written in a hurry, may be sent for a closer inspection. That is why we go through the list with you in Riyadh before the truck moves.
What happens to the truck at the King Fahd Causeway?
The King Fahd Causeway runs 25 km from Al Aziziyah, south of Al Khobar, to Al Jasra in Bahrain. Halfway across is an artificial island holding the border zone: the western part for Saudi customs and passports, the eastern part for Bahraini customs. It is run by the King Fahd Causeway Authority, whose official trucks page sets out what every truck needs. This is what we prepare before a load leaves Riyadh:
- Two Fasah appointments: one for clearance at Saudi customs and another for clearance at Bahraini customs, followed by a visit to the clearance office on each side. A truck that turns up without a slot gets delayed.
- Driver documents: passport, valid driving licence, valid vehicle registration and a certified authorisation from the truck’s owner.
- Truck insurance: cover for leaving the kingdom, purchased in the Jesr app or from the insurers who keep counters on the causeway.
- Weight limits: the permitted load depends on how many axles the vehicle has; for a two-axle truck the normal gross is 21 tonnes and the absolute ceiling 24.
- Causeway toll: it varies between a dyna, a trailer and a car transporter according to size and weight, and we pay it out of the price you agreed.
The point almost nobody mentions is the overweight surcharge. Each axle carrying too much costs SAR 300, and every extra tonne over the permitted gross, even a fraction of one, costs another SAR 300; above the hard ceiling the authority may simply send the truck back. So we weigh up the furniture and goods before loading and never stuff a dyna beyond its capacity; the apparent saving of an overloaded truck can turn into a surcharge or a second trip.
For more on crossing procedures, slots and peak times, read the King Fahd Causeway guide for truck shipping.
Moving household furniture from Riyadh to Bahrain
Most of our Riyadh–Bahrain loads are family furniture. Moving across Riyadh and moving to Bahrain differ in more than distance. Three things change: Bahrain’s heavy humidity compared with Riyadh’s dry air, a customs inspection that may open some cartons, and residential towers in Manama, Seef and Juffair where the service lift has to be booked in advance.

How we prepare furniture for the causeway trip
- Dismantling and numbering: beds, wardrobes and tables are taken apart, with screws bagged and tagged to each piece so assembly in Bahrain is quick.
- Humidity-proof layers: bubble wrap, then rigid cardboard, then tight stretch film, because wooden furniture moved from dry to humid air suffers if it is not sealed well.
- Kitchens: IKEA and other ready-made kitchens are dismantled with their doors wrapped separately; prices start from SAR 825 including removal and refitting.
- ACs and fridges: fridges are drained the day before, and a technician recovers the AC gas before the unit comes off the wall, because moving it charged damages it.
- Valuables: paintings, antiques and large mirrors go into wooden crates where needed.
- Photo inventory: every piece is photographed and listed; that list is what Bahraini customs sees and what you check on delivery.
Shared load, dedicated dyna or trailer?
It depends on how much you are moving. For one room and some cartons, consolidated shipping starts from SAR 735 and takes 2–4 days. For a full bedroom or a small flat needed on a set date, a dedicated dyna starts from SAR 1,290 per bedroom and SAR 2,300 for a 3-bedroom flat with hall. A large house with majlis and four bedrooms suits a closed 13.6 m trailer, from SAR 3,220.
The all-in package if you travel before your furniture
If you are starting work in Bahrain before your furniture arrives, the one-bedroom package from SAR 1,650 covers packing, transport, customs and assembly. All you need is someone to open the door in Riyadh and someone to receive in Bahrain.
For the full picture on home moves and furniture exemptions, see furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Bahrain
We move cars from Riyadh to Bahrain on three kinds of carrier: the open shared carrier, the cheapest at SAR 780 for a sedan; the private hydraulic flatbed carrying a single car, from SAR 1,100; and the enclosed flatbed for luxury and sports cars, from SAR 2,020. SUVs and 4x4s start from SAR 1,190. A car usually arrives within 1–3 days.
Getting the car ready in Riyadh
A car that is going to be registered and kept in Bahrain is exported from the kingdom permanently. The usual checklist: clear any outstanding fines, apply through Absher for the traffic department’s export certificate and export plates, make sure the istimara and periodic inspection are current, provide the owner’s national ID or iqama, and file the export declaration on Fasah. If a bank financed the car, a lien release letter comes before anything else.
If you plan to drive your own car across the causeway and bring it back, that is a temporary entry: valid registration, inspection, and insurance valid in Bahrain, which you can buy through the Jesr app. That case needs no shipping at all, unless you would rather fly and have the car follow you.
Bahrain entry and registration rules for cars
- Age: Bahrain allows imported cars up to 10 years old; older classic cars need prior approval.
- Duty and VAT: 5% customs duty on the value, then 10% VAT on the value plus duty; duty already paid in Saudi Arabia may be offset through GCC clearing certificates.
- Specification: expect to need left-hand drive and GCC specs; we confirm this in Riyadh before the transporter leaves, to avoid a refusal at the causeway.
- Registration with Bahrain traffic: the traffic directorate wants a signed form, the owner’s identity card, annual insurance and a passed technical inspection; for the Saudi origin it accepts any one of three papers: an export certificate marked final, a customs certificate, or a detailed vehicle report.
On loading day, about a quarter of a tank is plenty; the cabin and boot should be completely empty, and we photograph all four sides with you standing there. Full details are in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Shipping cartons and parcels from Riyadh to Bahrain
You don’t need a whole truck to send the children’s clothes, family gifts or stock for a small online shop. Cartons and bags join a consolidated load that leaves Riyadh regularly, priced by weight: SAR 92 covers a parcel of up to 5 kg, SAR 138 a carton or bag of up to 20 kg, SAR 184 a 15–25 kg carton, SAR 230 a big suitcase of up to 35 kg, and SAR 276 a 21–50 kg parcel, all as starting prices.
Label every carton with the Bahrain recipient, their local number and their area, and tuck a list of the contents inside. Keep loose lithium batteries, large quantities of perfume and flammable items out of cartons; they can be refused or hold up the whole load. Small shipments have their own page: cartons and parcels shipping to Bahrain.
Moving commercial stock from Riyadh: by the kilo, by the pallet or by the truck
Plenty of commercial cargo travels from Riyadh to Bahrain: dates and food, spare parts, medical supplies, building materials, office furniture and retail stock. We collect from warehouses in Riyadh’s industrial cities, from Al Sulay and from factories south of the city. Each size has its own method:
- Per kilo: small quantities on a consolidated load, from SAR 9.2 per kg.
- Per cubic metre (LCL): light, bulky goods, from SAR 414 per m³.
- Part load (LTL): pallets sharing a truck with other cargo, from SAR 780, or from SAR 1,650 per tonne.
- Full truckload (FTL): a truck for your goods alone, from SAR 2,300, leaving as soon as it is loaded.
Products manufactured in Saudi Arabia cross without customs duty if a GCC origin certificate goes with them; imports from outside the Gulf pay 5%. Either way, Bahrain then adds its 10% import VAT, apart from the few goods the law exempts or zero-rates. Food, medicines and cosmetics may need extra approvals or certificates depending on the product, so we review that with you before loading. More detail: goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Air freight from Riyadh to Bahrain
King Khalid International Airport sits about 421 km from Bahrain’s airport as the plane flies, roughly 75 minutes aloft. Add pickup, clearance and the final drive, and an air consignment is with its recipient in a day or two, depending on departures, and at Gulf International Shipping the rate starts from SAR 13.8 per kg.
From Riyadh, though, air is not always faster. A dedicated truck can also arrive within 24 hours, and costs far less for anything heavy. So we recommend air for official documents, samples, spare parts that are holding up work, permitted medicines and small, valuable devices. Airlines bill the heavier of two figures, the scale weight and the space the box takes up, so a big carton full of air can cost more than you would guess. Details are in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
There is also a sea lane for containers between Dammam’s port and Khalifa Bin Salman Port, which we arrange for businesses with big loads on request; we don’t recommend it for furniture or parcels from Riyadh, because the road is faster and simpler.
Customs duty and VAT on arrival in Bahrain
This is where many people get it wrong, because Bahrain differs from Kuwait and Qatar on one important point: Bahrain levies VAT at 10% on what comes in, worked out on the goods’ value with the freight added and any duty on top. In practice:
A worked example: a new appliance made outside the GCC, worth SAR 1,000 including freight. The 5% duty adds SAR 50; VAT is then a tenth of SAR 1,050, i.e. SAR 105, for roughly SAR 155 altogether. That is why we suggest keeping the invoices for new appliances to hand and listing them separately from used furniture.
The used-furniture exemption has strings attached. The owner must be relocating to live in Bahrain, the pieces must be theirs and for their own use, not for sale, and the load must reach Bahrain within six months of the owner’s own arrival. It travels with the owner’s current residence permit, the CPR card copied front and back, and an itemised list, and customs may open whatever it wants to check. The full explanation is in Bahrain used household goods customs.
New appliances get their own line
Picked up a brand-new washer or screen in Riyadh the week before you leave? Give it a separate line in the inventory and attach the receipt. If a Bahraini inspector finds it tucked among old belongings, the whole truck can sit until the list is redone.
Documents required for shipping from Riyadh to Bahrain
We book both Fasah slots, upload the data and follow up with the broker on the causeway. All we ask is that the papers are correct and complete before loading.
What can’t you ship to Bahrain?
The main items Bahraini rules prohibit or restrict, according to the published official guides, are below. This is a summary rather than the full rulebook, so message us about any item you are unsure of while you are still packing:
- Any kind of drug, CBD oil extracted from cannabis included.
- Old car tyres and ones that have been retreaded.
- Farmed (cultured) pearls.
- Hobby planes flown by remote control, and play pistols that fire anything.
- Any book, picture or statue that insults religion or offends public decency.
- Asbestos, and anything made of ivory or rhinoceros horn.
- Arms of any sort, even a sword or dagger hung on the wall as decoration.
- Loose lithium cells packed with household goods, gas bottles and anything that burns easily.
- Medicines, which need Ministry of Health clearance, and meat or poultry, which need health and halal paperwork.
Delivery across Bahrain’s governorates
The last point of the causeway on the Bahraini side is Al Jasra, a village in the Northern Governorate west of the capital, which puts Saar, Hamad Town and Budaiya first in line for drop-offs. Bahrain is small, so even the furthest address is usually no more than about an hour away after clearance. We deliver throughout all four governorates:

We also reach gated compounds and islands such as Reef Island, and Salman Industrial City in Hidd for commercial loads. For towers, please book the service lift and tell building management when we are coming, as some buildings only allow unloading at set hours.
Riyadh districts and towns we collect from
We collect from any address in Riyadh and the surrounding governorates, with no extra charge inside the city:
- North Riyadh: Al Malqa, Al Yasmin, Al Narjis, Al Sahafa, Hittin, Al Aqiq, Al Rabi.
- East Riyadh: Al Rawdah, Al Naseem, Al Rayyan, Al Khaleej, Al Qadisiyah, Al Sulay.
- Central Riyadh: Olaya, Al Sulaimaniyah, Al Wurud, Al Muruj, Al Malaz.
- West and south Riyadh: Laban, Dhahrat Laban, Namar, Al Suwaidi, Irqah, Al Shifa, Manfuhah, Al Aziziyah, Al Dar Al Baida.
- Governorates: Al Kharj, Diriyah, Al Muzahimiyah, Al Dawadmi, Al Majma’ah, Shaqra, Al Zulfi, Al Quwayiyah, Wadi Al Dawasir, Afif.
If your shipment is in Al Kharj or Diriyah, for example, we add it to the Riyadh load the same day so it doesn’t fall behind.
What decides the price of a Riyadh–Bahrain shipment?
Distance hardly changes, so the final price isn’t built on it. What really moves the number is:
- Volume and weight: cubic metres for furniture, kilos for parcels and goods.
- Method: consolidated is cheaper, dedicated is faster.
- Packing: normal wrapping costs nothing extra, but timber crating for fragile valuables does.
- Floors and lifts: in Riyadh and in Bahrain.
- Car type and carrier: open, hydraulic or enclosed.
- Axle weight: a load near the limit may need a bigger truck rather than a causeway surcharge.
- Bahrain area and insurance: plus the declared value if you want the load insured.
Example: a family sends one bedroom on a consolidated load (SAR 735), six cartons up to 20 kg (6 × 138 = SAR 828) and a sedan on the shared carrier (SAR 780). Shipping starts at roughly SAR 2,343 in total, plus any customs on new items. If the family chooses a dedicated dyna for the bedroom instead, the furniture line rises to SAR 1,290 but arrives in one or two days.
Ways to pay less on a Riyadh–Bahrain shipment
- Choose consolidated shipping if you have no tight deadline; a bedroom costs from SAR 735 instead of SAR 1,290.
- Sell or give away furniture with no place in the new home; less volume means a smaller invoice.
- Pack clothes and books into well-filled medium cartons rather than half-empty large ones.
- Unless it is a luxury model, let the car travel on a multi-car transporter (from SAR 780).
- Avoid holiday weeks and weekends, when the causeway is busy and Fasah slots run late.
- Share a dyna with relatives or colleagues who are also moving to Bahrain.
Costly mistakes when shipping from Riyadh to Bahrain
- Assuming Bahrain has no tax: new items carry 10% VAT, so budget for it from the start.
- Shipping more than six months after arrival: you may lose the used-furniture exemption.
- Shipping a car older than 10 years: it may be refused on arrival.
- Writing a vague inventory: “household items” isn’t enough; customs wants detail.
- Forgetting the car lien release or unpaid fines: the export stalls before it starts.
- Not booking the tower lift in Bahrain: unloading is delayed and waiting hours add up.
- Overloading the truck: that means weight surcharges at the causeway.
Do you ship from Bahrain to Riyadh?
Yes. We move loads from Bahrain to Riyadh the same way in reverse: collection in Manama, Muharraq or Riffa, a crossing from the Bahraini side to Al Khobar, then on to Riyadh. It suits families returning to Saudi Arabia and companies bringing back equipment or stock, and we prepare the Saudi entry papers and the Fasah slot for the Saudi side.
