Cartons and parcels shipping to Bahrain with Gulf International Shipping starts with a courier at your door in any Saudi city, who weighs your box or suitcase and takes it across the King Fahd Causeway to the recipient’s door in any Bahraini district, from Manama to Riffa and from Muharraq to Hamad Town. A carton leaving Khobar or Dammam can be delivered the same day or within 24 hours, a Riyadh carton within 24–48 hours, and boxes from the Hejaz and Madinah take 3 to 5 working days. Our starting prices: SAR 46 for documents and very small packets from Jeddah, SAR 60 for a weighed parcel from Dammam, SAR 92 for a small 10 kg carton, and SAR 138 for a Riyadh carton or suitcase of 20 kg.
The people who send boxes to Bahrain most often are families in the Kingdom with sons and daughters studying or working there, Bahrainis taking their personal belongings home after years in Saudi Arabia, households sending Eid, Ramadan and occasion gifts, and online shops with Bahraini customers. Since the Eastern Province is less than an hour’s drive from Bahrain, a carton here does not need a week, whatever many people assume.

How long does a carton take from your city to Bahrain?
Whatever city a carton starts from, it ends up in the Eastern Province, because Bahrain’s single road connection is the King Fahd Causeway. Transit time is therefore the distance to Khobar plus the departure of the consolidated truck that carries the cartons across:
In the Eastern Province your carton joins others at a sorting centre, is grouped by delivery area in Bahrain, and crosses on one truck holding Fasah slots on both sides. That grouping is what keeps the price down, because you are not paying for a whole truck to move one box. The times above stretch a little when the causeway is busy at holidays and weekends.

Approximate prices for cartons and parcels shipping to Bahrain
Our carton prices sit below those published by other carriers serving Bahrain, and include pickup from your home, the causeway fee and delivery. Each category shows where it starts and how high it usually goes when the box is heavier or the city further away:
Note: by road, an Eastern Province carton arrives on the sending day or the next, a Riyadh carton after one or two days, and boxes from the western cities after 3–5 working days, while an air parcel usually lands within 24–48 hours.

Per kilo or per carton: which works out cheaper?
In Riyadh we have two ways to price a box: a flat carton rate by weight band, or a per-kilo rate from SAR 9.2 on consolidated freight. The numbers show the difference:
- A light 10 kg carton: about SAR 92 by the kilo against SAR 138 for the up-to-20 kg band, so per kilo wins.
- A full 20 kg carton: about SAR 184 by the kilo against SAR 138 for the band, so the flat rate wins.
- Several cartons totalling 60 kg: we compare three separate bands with the combined weight and pick the lower.
The takeaway: if you are paying a band rate, fill the box properly rather than sending a big carton half empty. When you book we work out both methods and tell you the cheaper one before the courier arrives.
What do people send to Bahrain in cartons?
From our work on this route, these are the most common small shipments, each with something to watch for:
- Clothes and belongings for students and employees: medium cartons or a large suitcase; a suitcase of up to 35 kg starts from SAR 230.
- Eid and occasion gifts: small gifts start from SAR 184, and we suggest keeping invoices for new items inside the box.
- Dates, coffee and packaged sweets: fine if sealed and labelled with clear dates; we do not accept cooked or fresh food.
- Books, files and documents: documents start from SAR 46 from Jeddah, and books are listed by title on the contents list.
- Paintings and small antiques: they need special wrapping and a crate; artwork starts from SAR 550.
- Belongings of someone moving back to Bahrain: if you have more than a few cartons, furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain may suit you better than per-carton shipping.
Write the Bahrain address the way the courier reads it
Bahraini addresses run on numbers: the building or villa number, then the road number, then the block number, then the area name. An area name alone is not enough, because Juffair or Hamad Town contains dozens of blocks. We take these details at booking and write them on the carton:
- The recipient’s name as on their CPR card, and the CPR number if possible.
- A Bahraini mobile number starting +973 that the recipient answers, plus a backup number.
- Building and flat number, road number, block number and area name.
- The tower or compound name, if any, and whether an entry permit is needed.
These small details are the difference between a carton delivered on time and one returned to the depot because the courier could not find the address.
Packing a carton for the causeway and the customs check
A Bahrain-bound carton goes through two things a domestic one never does: it is stacked with other boxes on a truck covering hundreds of kilometres, and a Bahraini customs officer may open it and close it again. So we pack with both in mind:
- Double-wall cartons: skip thin supermarket boxes, which collapse under others.
- Sensible weight: 20–25 kg per carton, as heavier boxes split at the bottom when lifted.
- H-pattern taping: across the top and bottom, not a single strip down the middle.
- Liquids in sealed bags: perfume, oil and liquid soap, each in its own bag.
- Glassware in bubble wrap: placed in the centre, away from the carton walls.
- Contents list on top: in a clear sleeve, so the inspector can see what is inside without emptying it.
If you are short of time or materials, the courier brings cartons and packs your things at home, charged by the number of cartons.
Prohibited items for cartons to Bahrain
Some of these items are in every home, which is why we go through them with the customer before the box is sealed:
- Power banks and loose lithium batteries: Bahrain Customs does not normally accept them among personal belongings, so carry them with you if you need them.
- Radio-controlled planes and toys: not allowed in, nor are toy guns that shoot pellets.
- Swords and daggers: even ornamental ones for display.
- Medicines: do not send quantities or types that need a licence, and enclose the prescription with personal medication.
- Cannabis products and CBD oil: banned in every form.
- Meat and poultry: only allowed in with health and halal certificates, so keep them out of personal boxes.
- Perfume in commercial quantities, aerosols and gas cylinders: treated as flammable materials.
- Printed matter that offends: books, magazines or images considered contrary to Islam or to public decency.
Does a parcel pay customs duty or VAT in Bahrain?
Bahrain Customs assesses each parcel by its contents and declared value. The general rule:
- Used personal belongings: clothes, books and things you have used are inspected and normally pass without trouble when the quantity is clearly personal.
- Products of Saudi or GCC origin: no customs duty once the origin is shown by an invoice or a certificate of origin.
- New purchases made outside the GCC: usually charged a 5% duty, with 10% VAT then levied on value plus freight plus that duty.
Example: a new tablet made outside the Gulf and worth SAR 1,000 with freight bears about SAR 50 in duty; VAT is then worked out on SAR 1,050, giving SAR 105, for a total near SAR 155. We do not advise relying on a “parcel exemption threshold” that some websites quote without an official source, nor writing a lower value, because a parcel can be held if the declared value differs from the invoice.
Documents required to ship cartons to Bahrain
For online stores and home businesses
If you sell perfume, abayas, sweets or care products through an online store or a social media account and have customers in Bahrain, we collect orders regularly from your warehouse or home and deliver each one to its owner in Bahrain. For regular senders we group orders into batches on a fixed weekly day, which lowers the cost per order. If volumes grow to pallets, goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain with a commercial invoice and a registered importer becomes the better fit.
Air freight for urgent parcels to Bahrain
For official documents, prescribed medicines and devices the owner needs straight away, we send the parcel by air to Bahrain International Airport from SAR 13.8 per kg, reaching the recipient within a day or two after clearance. Flights are short, about 75 minutes out of Riyadh and close to two hours out of Jeddah, with space confirmed against the flight schedule at booking. From Khobar and Dammam, air is rarely worth it, since the carton crosses the causeway and arrives within hours. Further detail: air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Delivery to towers and residential compounds in Bahrain
We deliver across all four governorates: the Capital (Manama, Juffair, Seef, Adliya), Muharraq (Busaiteen, Amwaj, Diyar Al Muharraq, Hidd), the Northern Governorate (Hamad Town, Budaiya, Saar) and the Southern Governorate (Riffa, Isa Town, A’ali, Zallaq). In towers the courier leaves the carton at reception or takes it up to the flat if management allows; at gated communities like Amwaj or Durrat Al Bahrain, the recipient should leave the courier’s name with security. We call the recipient well before arriving.

The cheapest way to send your cartons to Bahrain
- Send from the Eastern Province if you can: the distance is shorter and a weighed parcel starts from SAR 60.
- Fill each carton to the top of its weight band rather than sending two half-empty boxes.
- Pool the whole family’s things into one shipment to one recipient and share them out there.
- Use road rather than air, except for what is truly urgent.
- Send a week ahead of the Eid season, when demand rises and the causeway gets busy.
- Pack unbreakable items yourself and leave only glass and appliances to us.
Common mistakes that delay a carton on the way to Bahrain
- An address with no block or road number, leaving the courier circling the area.
- A Saudi mobile number for the recipient that does not work in Bahrain.
- A forgotten power bank in a bag pocket or inside a gift box.
- A contents list that just says “items”, so the box gets opened and held up.
- A declared value lower than the invoice for a new device.
- A thin 35 kg carton that bursts open at the bottom.
