Shipping from Jeddah to Bahrain

As a shipping company from Jeddah to Bahrain, Gulf International Shipping moves household furniture, cars, cartons and warehouse goods from any Jeddah district right to the door of the person receiving them in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and the rest of the kingdom, by road via Riyadh and Dammam to the King Fahd Causeway, which is Bahrain’s sole road connection. Door-to-door transit is about 3–5 working days, and air freight arrives in 24–48 hours. Starting prices are SAR 46 for documents, SAR 92 for a small carton, SAR 735 per bedroom, SAR 2,760 to move a whole home, a sedan on a shared carrier at SAR 1,010, and air freight from SAR 13.8 per kilo.

Jeddah sits on the Red Sea and Bahrain in the middle of the Arabian Gulf, so a Jeddah shipment spans nearly the entire breadth of the Kingdom. That changes everything compared with a load from Dammam or Riyadh: packing has to survive roughly 1,400 km, timing has to match a booked slot at the causeway, and you need to know in advance what enters Bahrain duty-free and what pays duty and VAT. Prices come first on this page, then the road day by day, then furniture, cars, goods and air, and finally paperwork and delivery.

In short

  • Route: Jeddah → Riyadh → Dammam or Khobar → King Fahd Causeway → Manama; Bahrain has no other land crossing
  • Distance: roughly 1,350–1,400 km, varying with where we load and which road the driver takes
  • Road freight: usually 3–5 working days until delivery; add a day when the causeway is busy
  • Air freight: about 2 h 10 min flying from Jeddah to Bahrain, 24–48 hours door to door
  • Prices: from SAR 92 (small carton), SAR 735 (bedroom), SAR 2,760 (full home), SAR 1,010 (sedan) and SAR 13.8/kg (air)
  • Taxes in Bahrain: new goods of non-GCC origin pay 5% duty plus 10% VAT; relocating residents’ used belongings are exempt under conditions
  • Delivery: Capital, Muharraq, Northern and Southern governorates, i.e. the whole country

Approximate shipping prices from Jeddah to Bahrain

Our Jeddah–Bahrain rates were set by checking what other carriers publish for this lane and pricing below it. Every cost cell shows two numbers: the lower is where Gulf International Shipping’s price starts for the smallest load, the higher is the typical market figure for larger loads.

Shipment typeTransport / detailsApproximate cost (SAR)
Parcels and personal itemsRoad / carton up to 50 kgSAR 92 – 400
Bedroom / studioShared truck with dismantling and assemblySAR 735 – 1,500

Full truckload (FTL)Dedicated truck for ready cargoSAR 2,300 – 4,500
Pallet of goodsShared truck / up to 500 kgSAR 1,010 – 1,800

Note: a Jeddah truck normally needs 3 to 5 working days to reach Bahrain, governed by its Fasah slot and the queue at the King Fahd Causeway; air shipments land within 24–48 hours.

You may wonder why a full truck starts at SAR 2,300 while a complete household starts at SAR 2,760. The truck rate covers transport only, for cargo that is already packed and palletised. The household rate includes the crew that dismantles, wraps and loads in Jeddah, then unloads and reassembles in Bahrain. Compare what each price includes rather than the two numbers.

Item-by-item prices from Jeddah to Bahrain

Many Jeddah customers aren’t moving a whole home, just certain pieces: a bed for a son studying in Bahrain, a fridge for family who moved ahead, a sofa and a dining table. So Gulf International Shipping prices each item on its own:

Small appliances up to 30 kgSAR 184

Save by grouping items

Single items are priced one by one, yet a group of them is billed on the combined truck space, and that figure normally ends up lower than adding the individual prices together. Send the full list at once and ask for a combined price.

How does a Jeddah shipment reach the King Fahd Causeway?

There is no road from Jeddah to Bahrain except through the Eastern Province, because the King Fahd Causeway is the one road crossing that joins the two countries. Gulf International Shipping trucks therefore head east from Jeddah on the Riyadh highway, continue from Riyadh to Dammam or Khobar, and then on to the causeway’s start at Aziziyah, on Khobar’s southern edge. Any company that names a different crossing into Bahrain, such as “Salwa”, is confusing Bahrain with Qatar.

The causeway itself runs about 25 km over the Gulf and comes ashore at Al-Jasra on Manama’s western side. Halfway across is an artificial island known as Passport Island, home to the Saudi border station on the west side and the Bahraini one on the east. Once off the causeway, Hamad Town, Budaiya and Saar are the closest districts, Manama is a few minutes on, and Muharraq, Riffa and Sitra follow shortly after.

Jeddah over the causeway to Bahrain
The King Fahd Causeway piers over the Gulf: the last 25 km of a Jeddah shipment before Al-Jasra

Gulf International Shipping either sends your shipment straight from Jeddah on a dedicated truck or adds it to a consolidated load that fills up in Jeddah before passing through Riyadh. A dedicated truck is usually a day faster; a shared one is far cheaper since you’re billed just for the room your goods occupy. Before you book, we tell you when the next shared truck leaves.

Day-by-day schedule from Jeddah to Manama

This is the usual rhythm for a medium furniture load on a Gulf International Shipping truck. A dedicated truck may save a day; peak seasons and a busy causeway may add one.

DayWhat happensWhere the shipment is
Day 1Dismantling, wrapping, numbering and loading; shipment data uploaded to FasahJeddah
Day 2About 950 km east on the Riyadh highway, with the driver’s rest stopsBetween Jeddah and Riyadh
Day 3On to Dammam or Khobar, arriving ahead of the booked crossing slotEastern Province
Day 4Crossing the King Fahd Causeway: Saudi exit, then Bahraini customs, then delivery and assemblyBahrain
Day 5Buffer day for consolidated loads or peak days on the causewayDelivery

The biggest variable is the wait at the causeway, which tends to grow at weekends, during holidays and in high season. The JESR app run by the King Fahd Causeway Authority shows the average crossing time, and we check it before releasing the truck from the Eastern Province so it doesn’t arrive at peak hour.

Your truck at the King Fahd Causeway: two slots, papers and weight

This is where a company that knows the route differs from one learning it at your expense. The King Fahd Causeway Authority’s official trucks page says a truck must book through Fasah for Saudi customs and then report to the clearance office, and must do the same again for Bahraini customs. In other words, a truck needs two appointments, not one, and a truck that turns up without a slot waits or is sent back.

  • Driver documents: the driver’s passport and valid licence, the truck’s current registration, and the owner’s authorisation, officially certified.
  • Truck insurance: issued before departure via the JESR app, or bought at the insurer’s office on the causeway itself.
  • Weight: limits depend on the axle count; a two-axle truck, for example, is allowed 21 tonnes and may not exceed 24.
  • Overweight fees: the carrier pays an extra SAR 300 for every axle carrying too much, and another SAR 300 per excess tonne or fraction of a tonne; trucks beyond the maximum can be refused.
  • Crossing tolls: set by the causeway according to truck type and weight, and paid by us out of the price you agree with us.

That’s why Gulf International Shipping weighs every load before it leaves Jeddah and spreads it across the axles so it stays clear of the limit. Our King Fahd Causeway truck shipping page walks through the whole crossing.

Moving household furniture from Jeddah to Bahrain

The furniture trip from Jeddah is long, and packing that works for a move across town won’t do. The Gulf International Shipping crew starts by photographing valuable pieces and recording their condition, then dismantles beds and wardrobes, numbers every part and bags the screws with the name of the piece written on the bag. Wood gets bubble wrap then reinforced cardboard, glass and mirrors go into braced crates, and sofas are sealed in heavy film that keeps out dust and damp.

Damp deserves particular attention: Bahrain’s air stays humid through most months, and furniture kept sealed airtight for too long can suffer. We recommend unwrapping within a day or two of arrival, and we leave breathing gaps in the wrapping of mattresses and rugs.

Appliances, air conditioners and kitchens

Fridges are unplugged the day before and wiped dry, washing-machine drums are locked, and air conditioners come down only once their gas has been pumped back into the outdoor unit, so nothing leaks on the road. Gulf International Shipping moves IKEA-style kitchens from SAR 825 including dismantling and refitting, with each unit numbered and a photo of how it sat on the wall.

Does your used furniture pay customs in Bahrain?

Not if you are relocating there and meet the conditions. The exemption covers used belongings that you own and use yourself rather than sell, provided the shipment lands before six months have elapsed since you entered Bahrain. You submit a copy of your residence permit, both faces of your CPR card and an itemised inventory, and customs usually opens personal shipments for inspection.

New pieces are treated differently: if made outside the GCC, the usual charge is 5% duty, with 10% VAT then worked out on the value, shipping and duty combined. A new imported sofa worth SAR 1,000 including shipping would carry SAR 50 duty plus SAR 105 VAT, SAR 155 altogether. Items made in a GCC country skip the duty with a certificate of origin. Details are in Bahrain used household goods customs.

A word about batteries

Bahraini customs normally turns away loose lithium batteries in household shipments. Take them out of the cartons, and tell us in advance about any e-bike, scooter or device with a large battery.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Bahrain: shared carrier or covered flatbed?

Gulf International Shipping moves cars from Jeddah in three ways. A shared carrier moves a number of cars together, which keeps the cost lowest; a covered hydraulic flatbed carries your car alone and shields it from dust and grit over more than 1,300 km; and a fully enclosed transporter is for luxury and sports cars.

Car typeTransportFrom
Small carShared carrierSAR 920
SedanShared carrier or covered hydraulic flatbedSAR 1,010
Mid-size sedanShared carrierSAR 1,100
SUV or electric carHydraulic flatbedSAR 1,380
Van or small truckDedicated flatbedSAR 1,650
Luxury or sports carEnclosed transporterSAR 1,840

Before booking, check two conditions on the Bahraini side. The first is age: the rule usually applied is that an imported car can’t be more than ten years old, though classics may get through with prior approval. The second is specification: left-hand drive and GCC specs are normally expected, and we review your car against them before loading so it isn’t sent back from the causeway.

On the Saudi side, a car leaving permanently gets an export certificate and dedicated export plates from Traffic via Absher, once fines are cleared, the registration and periodic inspection are current and any bank lien is lifted. For registration, Bahrain’s General Directorate of Traffic accepts one of three papers for a car arriving from the Kingdom, a customs certificate, a final export certificate, or a detailed report, together with a year of insurance and a technical inspection pass. The importer normally bears 5% duty and 10% VAT, unless the car’s duty was already paid in the Kingdom and GCC clearing certificates are produced. Read car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain for the full picture.

Before your car is loaded

Keep the fuel at around a quarter, take every personal item out of the cabin and boot, and snap photos of each side plus the odometer reading. We record its condition too, at loading and at delivery.

Shipping warehouse and factory goods from Jeddah to Bahrain

Jeddah is a major trading hub with warehouses in the south, factories and a port, and a large share of Gulf International Shipping’s Jeddah–Bahrain loads are commercial: dry food, spare parts, cosmetics, clothing and e-commerce stock. We collect them on pallets from the warehouse, stretch-wrap them and lift them onto the truck by forklift.

Loading Jeddah goods for Bahrain
A wrapped pallet of goods loaded onto a Bahrain-bound truck at a warehouse south of Jeddah

A pallet up to 500 kg starts at SAR 1,010, light goods by cubic metre at SAR 184, cargo by the kilo at SAR 9.2, goods by the tonne at SAR 1,650, while a dedicated full truck starts at SAR 2,300. A commercial load doesn’t move without its invoice, a packing list and the CR copy, and Saudi-made goods should carry a GCC certificate of origin so Bahrain waives the duty. Goods from outside the GCC pay 5% duty, with 10% VAT calculated on top of value, freight and duty. Food, medicines and cosmetics need extra approvals, which we review with you before loading. Air freight from Jeddah to Bahrain

For urgent and light shipments, air freight out of Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport into Bahrain International Airport is the fastest option. The air distance is about 1,273 km and the flight about 2 hours 10 minutes, and the shipment is usually with the receiver by the next day or the one after, subject to the flight and customs. Cargo space into Bahrain International Airport depends on airline timetables; we secure the flight and the space at booking.

Air rates with Gulf International Shipping begin from SAR 13.8 per kg, charged on whichever is higher, the real weight or the volume weight. Air suits documents, samples, prescribed personal medicines, small electronics and gifts, but not furniture, because the cost climbs fast with volume. For comparison, a 20 kg carton by air starts at about SAR 276, while by road it starts at SAR 138 and takes a few days. Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain has the details.

Is there sea freight from Jeddah to Bahrain?

Sea isn’t a practical option for household moves from Jeddah: a ship would have to sail around the whole Arabian Peninsula, which usually makes it slower and dearer than a truck. For large commercial loads, containers can go by sea on request, out of Dammam’s King Abdulaziz Port to Bahrain’s Khalifa Bin Salman Port, once the goods have been trucked from Jeddah to Dammam. We suggest it only when it suits the size of your cargo and your deadline.

Shipping cartons and suitcases from Jeddah to Bahrain

The student at a Bahraini university, the employee who went ahead of the family, the grandmother sending Eid clothes to her grandchildren: they ship cartons and bags, not furniture. Gulf International Shipping’s rates start from SAR 46 for a document envelope or small parcel, then SAR 92 for a carton of up to 10 kg, SAR 138 for a medium carton or a suitcase, and SAR 230 for a big carton up to 50 kg.

Mark every carton on the outside with the receiver’s name, Bahraini mobile and area, and slip a list of its contents inside. Keep alcohol-based perfumes in bulk, aerosols, loose batteries and unprescribed medicines out of the cartons. See cartons and parcels shipping to Bahrain for more.

Which Jeddah districts do we collect from?

The Gulf International Shipping crew covers every district of Jeddah and the surrounding area, and we schedule pickups early in the morning or after Asr prayer to avoid traffic on the main roads:

AreaMain districts
North JeddahObhur North and South, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Naeem, Al-Zahra, Al-Salamah, Al-Basateen, Al-Rawdah
Central JeddahAl-Hamra, Al-Andalus, Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Ruwais, Al-Baghdadiyah, Al-Sharafiyah, Al-Balad, Al-Kandarah
East JeddahAl-Safa, Al-Marwah, Al-Rabwah, Al-Rehab, Al-Aziziyah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Naseem, Al-Samer, Al-Hamdaniyah
South JeddahAl-Thaghr, Al-Jamiah, Al-Khumrah, the industrial area and its warehouses
Around JeddahRabigh, Khulais, Dhahban and nearby Makkah

For tower flats we reserve the lift with the building office ahead of time; in the tight lanes of older districts, a small dyna ferries everything out to the main truck in rounds. Makkah customers have their own page: shipping company from Makkah to Bahrain.

Delivery across Bahrain’s governorates

Once the truck leaves the causeway at Al-Jasra, it usually reaches any point in Bahrain in under an hour, because distances inside the country are short. These are the areas we deliver to, governorate by governorate:

GovernorateMain delivery areas
CapitalManama, Seef, Juffair, Adliya, Hoora, Diplomatic Area, Sanabis, Jidhafs
MuharraqOld Muharraq, Busaiteen, Hidd, Amwaj, Diyar Al Muharraq, Galali, Samaheej
NorthernHamad Town, Budaiya, Barbar, Saar, Al-Jasra, Janabiya, Karranah, Buquwah
SouthernEast and West Riffa, Isa Town, Sitra, A’ali, Zallaq, Salmabad, Durrat Al Bahrain
Jeddah deliveries in Muharraq, Bahrain
Delivering a Jeddah shipment in one of the lanes of old Muharraq

In the lanes of old Muharraq and parts of Manama a large truck can’t get in, so we cover the last stretch with a smaller vehicle or by hand. In gated communities and newer towers such as Amwaj and Diyar Al Muharraq we coordinate with security and building management before arrival and ask you for an access permit if one is needed.

What can’t be shipped to Bahrain?

The main prohibited items under Bahraini customs rules, and those that need prior approval. We confirm each case before shipping:

  • Narcotics of every kind, including CBD oil.
  • Used and retreaded tyres.
  • Cultured pearls.
  • Model aircraft flown by remote control, and toy guns that launch projectiles.
  • Books, pictures and statues that offend religion or public decency.
  • Asbestos, ivory and rhino horn.
  • Weapons, including ornamental swords and daggers.
  • Allowed only with prior permission: medicines, meat and poultry (with health and halal certificates), two-way radios and satellite receivers.

What decides the cost of a Jeddah–Bahrain shipment?

The final Gulf International Shipping price comes down to how many cubic metres your shipment fills or how much it weighs, whether the truck is shared or dedicated, whether you need dismantling, packing and assembly, the floor and lift access in Jeddah and in Bahrain, the delivery area and the season. Customs clearance is added according to the shipment type.

Take a family in Al-Safa as an example: they send a bedroom (SAR 735), a large fridge (SAR 735), a washing machine (SAR 365) and ten medium cartons (SAR 1,380 at SAR 138 each) to Isa Town. The single prices add up to SAR 3,215, but priced as one volume on a shared truck the total usually comes close to the full-household rate, which starts at SAR 2,760.

Cutting the cost of shipping from Jeddah to Bahrain

  • Consolidated freight: you pay only for your space, as long as you can wait an extra day or two for the load to fill up.
  • Ship less: sell or donate what you won’t use; heavy old furniture can be dearer to move than to replace.
  • One shipment, not two: two small loads usually cost more than one.
  • Avoid peak days: holidays and weekends lengthen the wait at the causeway.
  • Use the exemption: plan for your used furniture to arrive within six months of your own arrival in Bahrain so you don’t lose the exemption.

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Bahrain

  • Believing anyone who promises road delivery from Jeddah in 24 hours; the distance alone is about 1,400 km.
  • Shipping new furniture with its invoices without budgeting for 5% duty and 10% VAT in Bahrain.
  • Leaving the used furniture until the six-month window has closed.
  • Sending a car past the 10-year mark without first confirming Bahrain will take it.
  • Leaving batteries, aerosols or alcohol-based perfumes in the cartons.
  • Forgetting to book the lift or a gate pass for the residential compound in Bahrain.
