Gulf International Shipping, a shipping company from Makkah to Bahrain, collects household furniture, vehicles, cartons and merchandise from anywhere in Makkah and its surrounding towns and trucks them to the receiver’s door in Hamad Town, Manama, Riffa or Muharraq via the sole road connection between the two kingdoms: the King Fahd Causeway. The truck covers about 1,300–1,350 km via Riyadh, Dammam and Khobar, and a shipment usually arrives within 3–5 working days. Expect to pay from SAR 92 per small carton, from SAR 735 per bedroom set, from SAR 1,010 per shared-carrier sedan and from SAR 2,760 for an entire household.
The Makkah–Bahrain run crosses the entire Arabian Peninsula, from the Red Sea coast to the Arabian Gulf. One fact shapes how we plan it: over 98% of the distance is Saudi highway, while the causeway itself is just 25 km long. So what really decides whether your goods arrive quickly and intact is how well they are packed for a long haul, how the stages of the road are organised, and whether the crossing slot is booked in advance, far more than anything that happens at the border. This guide walks through the road stage by stage, then prices, furniture, cars, Bahraini customs and VAT, paperwork, restricted items and delivery across Bahrain’s four governorates.
In short
- Crossing: the King Fahd Causeway, the single road link into Bahrain, running 25 km between Aziziyah, below Khobar, and Al Jasra on Manama’s western side

- Road transit: 3–5 working days, Makkah doorstep to Bahrain doorstep

How far is Makkah from Bahrain, and which road does the truck take?
Route planners put the drive from Makkah to Manama at roughly 1,325 km. In our quotes we give a range of 1,300–1,350 km, because the real figure depends on the pickup district and the delivery address in Bahrain. The truck leaves Makkah heading east on the Makkah–Riyadh expressway, the longest leg of the journey, continues from Riyadh along the Riyadh–Dammam expressway into the Eastern Province, and from Khobar turns towards Aziziyah, where the causeway begins.
Halfway across the water the truck reaches Passport Island, which is really two linked islands: the western one handles Saudi formalities and the eastern one Bahraini formalities. It then lands at Al Jasra in the Northern Governorate, which makes Hamad Town, Budaiya and Saar the closest delivery areas, followed by Manama, then Muharraq, Riffa and Sitra.
Why not send a Makkah load to Jeddah first? Because Jeddah lies in the opposite direction. We put Makkah consignments on trucks that head straight east, and when a load is small we add it to a shared truck coming from Jeddah that passes Makkah or the Riyadh road, so the customer avoids paying for a whole truck without adding distance.
That timetable describes a typical shipment. A truck dedicated to a single customer is faster because it never stops to consolidate; a shared one can take an extra day to fill, but costs far less. Before loading we tell you the expected crossing time, then update you at every stage.
Approximate shipping prices from Makkah to Bahrain
Carriers don’t publish prices specifically for Makkah–Bahrain, so Gulf International Shipping bases its rates on the nearest city that does have published prices: Jeddah, only about 80 km away. Our opening price for each line is pitched under the cheapest rate advertised there. Each cell shows two figures: the lower is where our pricing begins, the higher is what bulky or awkward loads typically reach.
Note: by road, Makkah to Bahrain normally means 3–5 working days, with the causeway queue and the timing of the Fasah slot making the difference; by air out of Jeddah, a day or two, subject to flights and clearance.
Single-item prices
Plenty of our Makkah customers aren’t moving a whole house, just a room or a few pieces for a son or daughter studying or working in Bahrain. So we also price items one by one:
Car and freight rates follow in their own sections, and a city-by-city comparison lives on shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.

Send us your pickup district in Makkah, the delivery area in Bahrain and a few photos of the items, and you’ll get back a figure and the date of the next truck.
Where do we collect in Makkah and the surrounding province?
Our crews pick up across Makkah, from Al Aziziyah, Al Shawqiyah, Al Awali, Al Naseem, Al Zahir, Al Sharaye, Al Otaibiyah, Al Rusaifah, Batha Quraish, Kudai and Al Kakiyah. Many of these neighbourhoods sit on hillsides or narrow streets, so we first send a small vehicle to survey the address and decide whether the truck can reach the building or whether we shuttle items by small dyna to a nearby loading point. It costs a little time, but it saves the big truck from getting stuck for hours in a lane it can’t enter.
Outside the city we reach Bahrah, Al Jumum and Al Kamil to the north and east, Rabigh, Khulais and King Abdullah Economic City on the coast, and Al Lith, Al Qunfudhah, Al Ardiyat and Adham to the south. Small loads from these towns are consolidated in Makkah or Jeddah before heading east; larger ones get a truck of their own. Loading in Taif? It has its own guide: shipping company from Taif to Bahrain.
When to book from Makkah
During Hajj and Ramadan, truck movement is restricted on some Makkah roads and traffic builds around the central area. Book your loading a week before or after the season, or choose a pickup point outside the busy zone, and we’ll handle the rest.
King Fahd Causeway: what happens to your shipment at the crossing?
The causeway is the shortest link in the chain but the most tightly regulated. Under King Fahd Causeway Authority rules, each truck needs two Fasah appointments, one with Saudi customs and one with Bahraini customs, and reports to the clearance office after each. The rule is published on the Authority’s official trucks page, yet many carriers never mention it, and their trucks turn up without a slot and wait.

The driver must hold a valid licence and vehicle registration, his passport and the owner’s certified authorisation, and the truck can’t cross until its crossing insurance is bought, either in the Jesr app or from the insurer’s desks on the causeway. The Authority also sets an allowed weight per truck by axle count: a two-axle truck may carry 21 tonnes, for example, and a six-axle-plus truck 45 tonnes. Every tonne over the allowance costs SAR 300, and every overweight axle another SAR 300.
At Gulf International Shipping we weigh the load before departure and spread it across the axles, so your shipment never attracts fines or a refused crossing. Causeway tolls depend on vehicle type and weight and are included in our price. Waiting times vary by season and day: weekends and holidays are busier, and the Jesr app shows the average crossing time, which helps us pick the best moment. Truck rules are set out step by step in our King Fahd Causeway truck shipping guide.
Wrong names you’ll see online
Some pages list “Salwa” as a route to Bahrain; Salwa is the border with Qatar. Others call the Saudi customs system “Bayan”, but the system in use now is Fasah. A Makkah shipment to Bahrain has exactly one road crossing: the King Fahd Causeway.
Moving household furniture from Makkah to Bahrain
Most of what we ship from Makkah to Bahrain is whole households: families relocating for work, or Bahraini families heading home after years in Makkah. A journey this long calls for packing that survives vibration and road heat, then the humidity of the Eastern Province coast and Bahrain on arrival. So we work in four layers: fabric blankets on wooden surfaces, stretch film over them to keep out dust and moisture, rigid cardboard on the corners, and wooden crates for glass, marble and antiques.

Makkah kitchens tend to be full of hospitality ware: brass dallahs, coffee cups, serving trays and decorated china. We wrap each piece in soft paper and then bubble wrap, set it in a carton fitted with cardboard dividers, and mark every carton with the room it came from and its number on the inventory. Beds and wardrobes are dismantled, with screws and fittings bagged and tied to the matching part, then reassembled in Bahrain in the same order.
Air conditioners are removed with the gas recovered and the pipes sealed; fridges and washing machines are emptied and dried a day before loading, because water left inside over 1,300 km breeds mould and odours. We photograph every large piece before wrapping and send you the photos and the inventory before the truck moves.
If your new home in Bahrain is set back from the road, as in some towers and compounds, we brief the team there in advance to arrange the lift or a hoist. And if you need to store your furniture for a few days because the new lease hasn’t started, we arrange storage and then ship on the agreed date. Planning a full house move? Can used furniture enter Bahrain duty-free?
Yes, under conditions. If you are relocating to live in Bahrain, your used furniture and personal effects pay nothing, provided they belong to you, serve personal use and land within six months of your own entry into Bahrain, and you present a valid residence permit, copies of both faces of your CPR (Bahraini ID) card and an itemised list of everything inside. Personal shipments are inspected, partly or fully opened, which is one more reason to number every carton and list its contents clearly.
Be clear on one point: the six-month clock starts the day you enter Bahrain and has nothing to do with how long you have owned or used the furniture, whatever some websites say. Ship too late after moving and you may lose the exemption, so time your Makkah shipment around your travel date.
Brand-new furniture and appliances, by contrast, normally attract 5% duty and then 10% VAT, except where a certificate shows GCC origin. Bahraini VAT is charged on the value including freight and duty, not the purchase price alone. Take a new appliance imported from outside the GCC, valued at SAR 2,000 with freight: duty comes to SAR 100, VAT is then 10% of SAR 2,100, i.e. SAR 210, so SAR 310 is due altogether.
Bahrain is not Kuwait or Qatar
If you have shipped to Kuwait or Qatar before, you might assume the whole Gulf is VAT-free. Bahrain charges 10%, so budget for it if you are sending new appliances or furniture. Full details on Bahrain used household goods customs.
Car shipping from Makkah to Bahrain
We move cars from Makkah on a shared carrier with other vehicles, on a covered hydraulic flatbed, or inside an enclosed transporter for luxury models. Given the length of the road, we recommend a covered option for anyone who cares about road dust and stone chips on the paintwork. Before loading we photograph the car from every side and record the odometer, and we ask that the tank be a quarter full with no personal belongings inside.
Final export or temporary entry? For a car moving to Bahrain permanently, the paperwork is export plates and an export certificate from traffic, clearance of any fines, an export declaration on Fasah and a bank release if the car is financed. On arrival, Bahrain’s General Directorate of Traffic registers a Saudi-origin car on any one of three papers (a detailed report, a customs certificate or a final export certificate) plus twelve months of insurance and a passed technical check. For a temporary visit, valid registration, periodic inspection and insurance valid in Bahrain are enough.
As a rule, Bahrain only admits imported cars up to 10 years of age, though classics may be allowed with prior approval, and left-hand drive with GCC specifications is usually required; we check your car before shipping. Imported cars pay 5% customs duty and 10% VAT, and duty already paid in Saudi Arabia can be offset through the GCC clearing system using first-entry-point certificates. Car owners should also read car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Air freight from Makkah to Bahrain via Jeddah
Makkah has no airport, so its air cargo leaves from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah for Bahrain International Airport. The Jeddah–Bahrain flight is about 2 hours 10 minutes, and the route is served by several airlines including Saudia, Gulf Air, flynas and flyadeal. Add collection in Makkah and clearance at both airports, and a shipment typically lands at the receiver’s door within 24–48 hours.
Gulf International Shipping charges air cargo from SAR 13.8 a kilo; we bill the heavier of real and volumetric weight, and the final figure also depends on which flights are open on the day. Air suits urgent documents, spare parts, small devices and gifts that must arrive for a fixed occasion. For furniture and large appliances, road is far cheaper.
On the Makkah line in particular, air is a serious option rather than a luxury: the road needs at least three days, while air cuts that to one or two. Air cargo into Bahrain follows the airlines’ timetables, so we lock in space and a departure when you book. Related reading: air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Shipping cartons, gifts and personal items from Makkah
Many people in Makkah send small cartons to relatives in Bahrain: clothes, books, prayer rugs, prayer beads, personal fragrances, dates and gifts brought back from Umrah. We put these on a shared truck to keep costs down: small parcels from SAR 46, ten-kilo cartons from SAR 92, bags or cartons between 10 and 20 kg from SAR 138, and SAR 230 upwards for heavy cartons as large as 50 kg.
Label every carton with who it’s for, their Bahrain phone number and their area, and don’t pack loose lithium batteries, aerosols or flammable liquids. Perfume in commercial quantities needs goods paperwork rather than personal-effects paperwork. Regular senders will find more on cartons and parcels shipping to Bahrain.
Commercial goods from Makkah to Bahrain
For Makkah traders and factories in the region we offer less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping for stock that won’t fill a truck, from SAR 780; a pallet weighing up to half a tonne from SAR 1,010; while a full truckload (FTL) begins at SAR 2,300. We also price by weight from SAR 9.2 per kg, by the tonne from SAR 1,650, and by volume for light goods from SAR 184 per cubic metre.
Goods made in Saudi Arabia cross duty-free if a GCC origin certificate travels with them. Stock originally imported from beyond the GCC attracts 5% duty plus 10% VAT on its freight-inclusive, duty-inclusive value, unless the duty was settled in the Kingdom and first-entry certificates prove it. Traders send us their invoice, packing list, CR copy and origin certificate. For the full picture see goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Documents required for shipping from Makkah to Bahrain
We go through the papers with you before loading day, because a single missing document means a truck waiting on the causeway. Still waiting for your Bahraini residence permit? Customs may take a letter from your employer for now, and we check that with you ahead of shipping.
Prohibited and restricted items for Makkah–Bahrain shipments
Bahraini customs bans, among other things: all narcotics and CBD oil, secondhand or remoulded tyres, cultured pearls, remote-control model planes, toy guns that fire projectiles, publications and figures contrary to religion or public morals, asbestos, and ivory and rhino horn.
Some goods are restricted and need a permit or close inspection: medicines (imported through licensed parties), meat and poultry (which need halal and health certificates), swords and daggers even when decorative, and wireless communication devices and satellite receivers. Lithium batteries are refused in personal shipments, and we don’t load gas cylinders, aerosols or fuel. Not sure about something? Photograph it and message us before shipping, and we will find out.
Delivery across Bahrain’s four governorates
We deliver anywhere in Bahrain, to the door of a home or warehouse, and reassemble furniture wherever you want it. Because the causeway lands at Al Jasra in the Northern Governorate, Hamad Town and its surroundings are the nearest drop-off points, with the route then extending to Manama, Muharraq and the south.

Commercial consignments can go to Salman Industrial City in Hidd, and we enter gated compounds once their management has cleared the truck.

What decides the cost of a Makkah–Bahrain shipment?
Several factors shape the final price. The main ones:
- Volume and weight: furniture is charged on the room it occupies, dense goods on weight
- Truck type: shared is cheaper; dedicated is faster and gives you a fixed date
- Packing: wooden crates for glass and antiques add cost but protect valuable pieces
- Floors and access: no lift in Makkah or Bahrain, or a narrow street, means more labour and time
- Delivery area: Muharraq and the south are a little farther from the causeway exit than the Northern Governorate
- Season: Hajj and holiday periods raise demand for trucks and waiting times at the causeway
Worked example: a family sends two bedroom sets, a large fridge, a washing machine and 15 cartons from Al Aziziyah in Makkah to Hamad Town. At starting prices: two bedrooms SAR 1,470, the fridge SAR 735, the washer SAR 365 and the medium cartons SAR 2,070, a total of about SAR 4,640 if each item is priced separately. The same load may fit a full-household package from SAR 2,760, which is why we compare both methods and give you the lower one.
Cheapest ways to get a Makkah shipment to Bahrain
- Choose a shared truck if your date isn’t tight; it splits the cost of a long road between several customers.
- Sell or give away what won’t fit your Bahrain home, since every cubic metre left behind is money saved.
- Pack small items into cartons of a uniform size instead of assorted bags.
- Book away from Hajj, Ramadan and holiday peaks.
- Ask for a full-household package rather than per-item pricing if you have a lot to move.
Common mistakes when shipping from Makkah to Bahrain
- Believing unrealistic timings: anyone promising 24-hour delivery from Makkah is ignoring 1,300 km of road and the causeway formalities.
- Shipping furniture long after you move: the customs exemption lapses six months after your arrival.
- Forgetting the 10% VAT: it applies to new non-GCC appliances and furniture.
- An incomplete inventory: it slows inspection at Bahraini customs.
- Leaving water in the fridge or washer: it causes mould and smells after a long trip.
- Shipping a car over 10 years old without checking first that it will be accepted.
