Land freight from Dammam to Bahrain is the shortest international run that leaves the Kingdom: roughly 70–90 km from the loading point to Manama, 25 km of it across the King Fahd Causeway. Gulf International Shipping picks up furniture, cars, cartons and trade cargo anywhere from Jubail down to Al-Ahsa, drives it across the bridge and unloads at the consignee’s address in Bahrain. Most loads arrive before the end of the loading day; a busy bridge or a late Fasah slot can push delivery to the next morning. At Gulf International Shipping a parcel priced by weight starts at SAR 60, a carton up to 30 kg at SAR 138, a bedroom with dismantling and reassembly at SAR 735, and a car on a hydraulic flatbed at SAR 1,100.
From the Khobar corniche Bahrain is nearly in sight, so it is tempting to treat a move there like a move across town. The distance really is short, but the load still passes two customs posts, two Fasah bookings and a full inspection, and one missing paper can turn a one-hour drive into a day parked on the border island. This guide is written for Eastern Province customers: an engineer relocating from Dhahran to Juffair, a family in Qatif setting up a home in Muharraq, or a Jubail plant sending pallets to Salman Industrial City.

How long does land freight from Dammam to Bahrain take?
The drive rarely takes more than an hour, since Dammam and Manama are about 70–90 km apart depending on where we load. The real time goes into three things: loading and wrapping at your home or warehouse, queuing at the customs station halfway across the bridge, and unloading and reassembly in Bahrain. So we measure transit from the moment the truck doors close at your address to the moment the receiver signs, not from the moment the truck rolls onto the bridge.
Gulf International Shipping books the crossing slot on Fasah the day before loading. When loading finishes in the morning, most Dammam and Khobar loads reach the Capital and Muharraq before evening. Heavy cargo that needs a longer inspection, or a crossing that falls on a weekend or holiday when the causeway is packed with travellers, may be delivered the next morning. The table below shows what we normally see by pickup area and delivery area:
Why can a short trip run late?
The causeway carries travellers and trucks on the same road, and it fills up at weekends, on public holidays and in the holiday seasons. A truck that misses its booked Fasah window has to wait for a new one, so we time the loading so the truck reaches the causeway inside its slot.
The route from Dammam to Manama over the King Fahd Causeway

The truck leaves Dammam on the Dammam–Khobar highway and turns toward Al-Aziziyah, the district on Khobar’s southern edge where the bridge starts. The bridge runs about 25 km over the sea. Halfway along sits a man-made island usually called Passport Island, which is actually two linked islands: the western one for Saudi customs and immigration, the eastern one for Bahraini customs. Past the island the road lands at Al-Jasra on Bahrain’s west coast, and from there we drive on to Manama or any other area. There is no second land border with Bahrain, so every truck from every Saudi city comes through here.
What does a truck need to cross the causeway?
The King Fahd Causeway Authority publishes its truck requirements, and we have all of them ready before we knock on your door. On the Saudi customs side, the carrier books an appointment on Fasah and then reports to the clearance office; the Bahraini customs side works the same way, with its own Fasah appointment and clearance office. The driver carries a passport, an authorisation certified by the vehicle owner, a valid registration card and a valid driving licence. The truck also needs crossing insurance, purchased before leaving Saudi territory, either online in the JESR app or from an insurer’s desk at the causeway station.
One point competitors skip: the causeway weighs trucks. A two-axle truck is allowed 21 tonnes gross with a ceiling of 24, a four-axle truck 43 with a ceiling of 48. Each axle carrying too much costs the carrier SAR 300, as does every tonne above the permitted gross, part-tonnes included, and a truck above the ceiling can be turned back. That is why we spread heavy loads such as marble, steel and foodstuffs over trucks with the right axle count, so no surprise surcharge lands on your invoice.
Fasah slots, truck insurance and rush hours are covered in depth in our King Fahd Causeway truck shipping guide.
Approximate shipping prices from Dammam to Bahrain
Our Dammam rates start from the lowest price that Eastern Province carriers publish for each item, then come in about 8% under it. Where no Eastern Province carrier publishes a figure, we used the Riyadh price, the nearest city with published rates, and kept one fixed rule: nothing ships from Dammam for more than it would from Riyadh, because Dammam is closer. Each row shows two numbers: the lower one is where Gulf International Shipping starts, the higher one is where a larger or awkward load normally ends up.
Note: a Dammam load normally reaches Bahrain within the loading day or by the next morning, subject to bridge traffic and the Fasah window; an air shipment needs 24–48 hours, flights and clearance permitting.

Which Eastern Province towns do we collect from?

We collect from homes, offices and warehouses in every Dammam district, including Al-Shati, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Zuhur, Al-Hamra, Al-Fursan, Al-Mazruiyah, Al-Khaleej, North Al-Rakah and Al-Muraikabat. We also load in north and south Khobar, Dhahran and its residential compounds, Qatif, Saihat, Safwa and Tarout, Jubail Industrial City and Jubail town, Ras Tanura, Hofuf and Mubarraz in Al-Ahsa, Abqaiq, Nairiyah and Khafji.
Living near the causeway gives you an option that Riyadh and Jeddah customers do not have. A small load of a few cartons or a single appliance can ride on a consolidated truck leaving Khobar the same day, so you are billed only for the room your items take up. A whole household gets a dedicated truck that runs from your door to the new door with no transfer in between. Either way, nothing has to sit overnight in a warehouse, which means fewer hands touching your things.
Moving furniture from the Eastern Province to Bahrain: humidity, compounds and the duty exemption
Furniture going from Dammam to Bahrain does not cross a long desert, but it faces something else: heavy coastal humidity, especially in summer. Particle board soaks up moisture, and mattresses or fabric sofas trap odours if they are wrapped straight in plastic with no breathing layer. We wrap wood in paper first and bubble film second, bag mattresses in purpose-made covers, and number every dismantled piece with its screws bagged under the same number, so reassembly in Bahrain is quick and nothing goes missing.
Many people moving to Bahrain settle in the towers of Seef, Juffair and Bahrain Bay, or in gated communities such as Amwaj, Diyar Al Muharraq, Reef Island and Durrat Al Bahrain. These buildings book their service lifts by the hour and want the truck registered at the gate in advance. We ask you for the building management contact or the gate number the day before delivery and fix the slot, so the truck is not left idling outside a locked tower.
When does your furniture enter Bahrain duty-free?
When you are coming to live in Bahrain, the things are yours and for your own use rather than for sale, and the shipment lands while you are still within your first six months in the country. Customs will then ask for a CPR card copy (both sides), an unexpired residence permit, and an itemised list of everything in the load. Brand-new pieces fall outside this relief: they usually attract 5% duty and 10% VAT unless shown to be GCC-made, and every personal shipment is opened for inspection.
In practice, a family moving its used home from Khobar to Bahrain after the residence permit is issued pays no duty on its furniture, but a brand-new sofa bought last week from a Dammam showroom may be charged duty and VAT if it was not made in the GCC. Keep receipts for recent purchases and never mix new and used items in unlabelled cartons. For the full conditions and paperwork, read Bahrain used household goods customs or furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Car shipping from Dammam to Bahrain
Most Eastern Province customers who send a car to Bahrain have taken a job there and would rather not drive it over themselves and queue in the traveller lanes. We carry the car on a hydraulic flatbed that loads from ground level, which suits low and sports cars, starting at Gulf International Shipping from SAR 1,100 for a sedan or SUV from Dammam. A luxury car that needs an enclosed carrier starts from SAR 2,020.
Start by deciding the car’s future. If it will wear Bahraini plates, it is a final export: Saudi traffic must issue an export certificate and export plates once every fine is paid, and a financed car needs the bank’s lien-release letter. On the Bahraini side the model year and spec are checked before acceptance, and duty plus VAT are due unless the car was already cleared within the GCC. If it is coming back to the Kingdom, it is a temporary entry with lighter paperwork. We explain both routes, with carrier prices from every city, in car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Commercial freight from Dammam and Jubail to Bahrain
For supply purposes the Eastern Province and Bahrain work almost as one market. Plants in Jubail and Dammam’s Second Industrial City supply Salman Industrial City in Hidd and the warehouses of Sitra and Ma’ameer, and traders move dates, food, building materials and spare parts across nearly every day. We run part loads (LTL) from SAR 780 when the cargo is less than a truck, full trucks (FTL) from SAR 2,300, cargo by the tonne from SAR 1,650 or by the kilo from SAR 9.2.
For trade cargo the paper that matters most is the GCC certificate of origin: with it, goods made in Saudi Arabia cross into Bahrain without customs duty. Anything manufactured outside the GCC first pays 5% on its value plus freight, and VAT at 10% is then worked out on that larger total. In numbers: SAR 1,000 of non-GCC stock, freight included, attracts SAR 50 of duty; 10% of SAR 1,050 adds SAR 105 of VAT; customs collects SAR 155 in all. Stock that already paid duty when it entered Saudi Arabia may be let through duty-free if the paperwork from that first GCC point of entry is produced.
Businesses that ship whole containers can also, with notice, go by sea to Bahrain’s Khalifa Bin Salman Port from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. That suits traders only; household goods, cars and parcels move faster and for far less on the bridge. Traders will find more in goods shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Air freight from Dammam to Bahrain
Being straight with you saves you money here: there is no regular airline route between Dammam and Bahrain, because the road takes under an hour. An urgent Eastern Province consignment gets there faster by van or truck over the causeway within hours, with no flight to wait for and no airport clearance. So for Dammam and Khobar customers we recommend road in nearly every case.
If the urgent item is sitting in another city, say samples or papers in Riyadh or Jeddah, it can fly to Bahrain International Airport on the next available flight, which is airborne for just over an hour from Riyadh and just over two hours from Jeddah. Our air rate starts at SAR 13.8 per kg, and the parcel is in the receiver’s hands within a day or two, depending on the flight and clearance. Read more in air freight from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.
Documents required for shipping from Dammam to Bahrain
We prepare the electronic authorisation on Fasah in your name. If your Bahraini residence permit has not been issued yet, tell us early: customs sometimes accept a sponsor letter from the employer, but that is confirmed before loading, not at the causeway.
What is prohibited from shipping to Bahrain?
Bahrain’s official prohibited list includes several items people do not expect. These are the main ones, and we check every case before loading:
- Narcotics of every kind, including CBD oil.
- Used or retreaded tyres.
- Radio-controlled model planes, and toy guns that shoot projectiles.
- Asbestos, raw ivory and ivory goods, rhino horn.
- Publications, images or figures contrary to religion or public morals.
- Weapons, including ornamental swords and daggers in personal shipments.
- Lithium batteries in household shipments, gas cylinders and flammables.
Some goods are restricted rather than banned and need approvals: medicines must be registered and brought in by a licensed importer, meat and poultry must come with health and halal certificates, and wireless equipment or satellite receivers can be held for inspection.
Delivery across Bahrain’s governorates

The bridge comes ashore at Al-Jasra, in the Northern Governorate, and we fan out from there to all four governorates. Closest to the causeway end are Hamad Town, Budaiya and Saar, then Manama and Seef; relatively farther are Muharraq and Hidd in the northeast, and Riffa, Awali, Zallaq and Durrat Al Bahrain in the south. The gap between the nearest and farthest area is rarely more than an hour on the road, but it decides the drop order when a consolidated truck carries several customers.

How is the cost of a Dammam shipment worked out?
Volume in cubic metres matters most, because it decides whether your load needs a corner of a shared truck or a truck of its own. Actual weight comes next, especially for heavy cargo close to the causeway weight limits. Then come the extras: dismantling and reassembly, wooden crates for glass and marble, removing air conditioners and recovering their gas, and floors with no lift. Last are the Bahraini area and the timing, because holidays and peak seasons push up demand for trucks.
A rough example: a Khobar family sending a bedroom, a sofa, a fridge and 15 cartons to Juffair. That does not fill a truck, so it is priced as a small household move up to 500 kg starting at SAR 1,100, plus reassembly if requested. A whole three-bedroom home with a majlis starts at SAR 2,300 on a dedicated truck.
How to keep the cost of a Dammam–Bahrain shipment down
- Go for a shared truck when your goods fill less than half a vehicle; the bill covers your space alone.
- Sell or donate heavy old furniture; moving it can cost more than it is worth.
- Use cartons of the same size and fill them properly; half-empty cartons crush and waste space.
- Avoid causeway peaks such as weekends and holidays if you can.
- Have the receiver’s papers ready before loading; waiting at the border for a missing document costs money.
Mistakes Eastern Province customers make with Bahrain shipments
- Assuming a short trip means no customs: every load, however small, is inspected and cleared on both sides.
- Packing new appliances among used furniture without receipts: they may attract 5% duty and 10% VAT.
- Shipping a car older than 10 years to register in Bahrain without checking it will be accepted.
- Overloading a small truck: the causeway charges SAR 300 per extra tonne.
- Forgetting to book the tower lift in Bahrain: the truck waits and delivery slips.
The return route: Bahrain to Dammam
We also work in the other direction: an employee whose contract in Manama has ended and who is moving back to Khobar, or a Bahraini trader sending stock to a Dammam warehouse. The steps are much the same, with a Fasah slot for entering the Kingdom, a Saudi customs declaration for goods and insurance for the truck coming from Bahrain. Send us the details and we will tell you which papers your direction needs.
